Jenn-Air Customer Service Is Terrible
By -

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- Just before midnight, March 15, 2007, my Jenn-Air oven model #JDS8850AAS (taken from the sticker inside the pan drawer) started "beeping" and two error messages began to appear. One message stated that Quick Proofing was needed and the other message stated Error F 1-8 Call an authorized service representative or 888-688-1000. I went up online to the Jenn-Air website and tried to find out what this was about. Jenn-Air's website did not acknowledge the model number and had no place I could find that further defined what was happening to the oven/range.

After trying, unsuccessfully to stop the noise, I threw the circuit shutting off power to the oven/range. Today, I called the Jenn-Air and after waiting for over an hour talked to the most brain dead person I have ever experienced. He identified himself as Robert. I let him know that what I wanted was the name and phone number of an authorized technician to repair the oven/range. He asked for the screen information appearing on the Jenn-Air panel and then for my zip code and city. I informed him that I live in Seattle, WA and my zip is 98118.

He then began to tell me that the nearest repair person is in Salinas, California. I informed Robert that Salinas was over 900 miles from where I lived and verified my zip code again. He came up with Salinas again. When I explained again that I lived nowhere near Salinas he essentially told me that I must have given him the wrong information or that the US Postal service had caused the error. I asked him to simply look up Seattle and provide me with the name and number of a repair person and to forget about zip codes. Robert informed me that Jenn-Air's system only worked with zip codes and that there was nothing further he could do.

I asked for a supervisor and he insisted that there were no supervisors. He asked me to hold to go talk to someone and asked for my phone number and address, which I gave to him. On returning to the phone call, Robert said that there was an error with Jenn-Air's system and asked me to verify my address.

I pointed out to Robert that I had already provided him the information and that he, Robert, had said that their system only worked on zip codes, so what difference did my street address make? He then told me that since I would not verify my address there was nothing more that Jenn-Air could do and hung up. I now have a useless expensive Jenn-Air oven/range.

Jenn Air Will Not Replace Defective Unit

FREDERICK, MARYLAND -- I purchased a Jenn-Air Down Draft unit after having one for almost twenty years, it is a great unit enabling me to BBQ indoors all year round. I purchased a new Jenn-Air Down Draft to replace it through Sears in November 2013.

I am writing this report in mid April 2014 and have had the unit replaced three times due to DEFECTIVE units being sent to me from Jenn-Air. They have a constant loud vibration that is caused when the down draft fan is turned on. Sears continues to replace the unit in good faith but I called Jenn-Air directly to see if they could send me a unit in good condition. Jenn-Air instead sent two repair companies to my home to verify the problem. Both repair companies stated that the unit was making a terrible noise when the down draft was turned on.

When I called Jenn-Air they had their own version of the most recent report stating that I refused to have it repaired (a repair was never offered to me). I happened to have the report in front of me and read it to their customer representative ** from Tennessee who by the way was very short with me not transferring me to a manager. I countered to her that if a brand new unit needs to be repaired it has something wrong with it; which means I was sold a defective unit. Per **'s direction Jenn-Air refuses to replace it.

I will take it up with Sears but I will never purchase a Jenn-Air product again. Even when their own repair people deem a brand new Jenn-Air product defective they will not replace it. Stupid or just plain old dishonest!! Certainly not the high quality product they try to sell themselves as.

Jenn-Air Cooktop Inadequate for Anyone Who Actually Cooks

I purchased a new Jenn-Air JDS9860 range in November, 2013 and was dismayed to discover that only one burner had a temperature setting of low. The others only go down to Medium, which is too hot for many cooking procedures. It is impossible to caramelize onions, simmer a sauce, and melt chocolate at the same time.

When I complained to the company, I was told that I should have had better consumer information before purchasing the stove. But it never occurred to me that a burner would not have a full temperature range, and I never asked that question. This is a very expensive stove, and I find myself constantly improvising with burner guards and shifting pots around to the one low burner, which is inconveniently located in the back.

Quality Appliance --- NOT!

Purchased Jenn-Air dishwasher locally, $997.00, 2008. What a rip off. We have been battling this monster for the last year including service calls, $$$$, parts, control board, $$$$, and we are still doing dishes at the sink. Our nearest service agent, 70 miles, charges $100.00 just to look at an appliance, let alone parts. We spent over $5K, all new Jenn-Air kitchen appliances in 2008.

First, 2011, the microwave crashed. Service agent indicated, "when it comes to microwaves you might as well throw them away and buy new." Sure as hell not going to purchase another Jenn-Air microwave. Now the lousy Jenn-Air dishwasher isn't working do we take it to the landfill also? We were told that Jenn-Air brand was Top-Notch in appliances B.S. We are holding our breath wondering when the Jenn Air refrigerator and gas stove will crash. Take our advice, NEVER, purchase a Jenn-Air kitchen appliance. Your life will be less stressful and you can quit your blood pressure medicine.

Jenn Air Is Horrible! Terrible Customer Support

BENTON, WASHINGTON -- My Jenn-Air dishwasher model # JB3200AWSS was purchase in Aug 7, 2012 from Seattle Home Appliance in Seattle Washington. Seattle Home Appliance contact info is: 18811 Bothell Way NE, Bothell, WA 98011, (425) 485-0552. Electric touchpad and control panel has been replaced 3 times in a twelve month period, and the drain pump was replaced. I called Jenn-Air right before my one year warranty was to expire to express serious concern about the state of this extremely unreliable dishwasher and they gave me an extended two year warranty. No less than two weeks after they granted the extended warranty, the control panel touchpad went out again.

The last time the machine was to be repaired, I asked for the dishwasher to be replaced. I believe the machine is a lemon and according to Jenn-Air, they are only willing to continue repairing the machine and not replace it, per my new 2 year warranty. With the amount of time the dishwasher was out of commission in the last twelve months, I have calculated that I have spent about one month hand washing dishes while I wait for parts and service.

I am furious that no one at Jenn-Air will resolve this mess and replace my lemon dishwasher! This machine has been consistently faulty since we purchased it. I think four repairs in a twelve month period in unacceptable and I have asked in no uncertain terms for a replacement, and my request has been denied. Here are the repairs made by Seattle Home Appliance: Again, machine was purchased Aug 7, 2012.

12/05/2012 - Touch pad replacement (part #W10208764), CNTRL-ELEC + CORECHARGE10 (part #W10285178); 5/28/2013 - Pump Drain Replacement (part #W10158351); 7/15/2013 - Touch Pad replacement (part #W10208764); 8/16/2013 - Touch Pad Replacement (part #W10208764).

Favorable Experience With Jenn-Air Electric Range

BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN -- I recognize that unhappy customers are most likely to post reviews/comments so I thought I'd provide a little positive feedback. Our Jenn-Air electric range purchased about 15 years ago (maybe before the troublesome electronic control unit mentioned by others) has been a faithful and trouble-free appliance since then. In our locale, we have frequent brownouts and blackouts and the stove has weathered them without a problem. Also, we don't have local Jenn-Air technical support (we are in Ecuador). We were seriously looking at buying more Jenn-Air products but, I have to admit, I am now looking at other brands, too.

Jenn-Air Gas Cooktop JGC8536ADB - Ignitor Replacement Difficulty

Jenn Air gas ranges will have ignitor failures from time to time. Cost of an ignitor with shipping is maybe $22 or so. The big problem is Jenn-Air used cheap non-stainless steel screws for the burner base and ignitor (screw under base). The result is that the screws will corrode in and not be easily removable. You can guess what a problem that is - a drilling and tapping operation. Figure hours of your valuable time wasted. If you buy a Jenn-Air gas range (such as JGC9336) you MUST immediately remove all (15) screws (3 per burner) and put anti-seize lub on them or replace with stainless steel screws.

I have seen comments about this same Jenn-Air problem at various parts websites. The added cost of stainless steel screws is maybe $1 or less. Unless American mfg pay attention to details, they will very slowly be pushed aside by foreign (Japanese and Korean Mfg).

Jenn-Air Downdraft Range "LEMON"

BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN -- I purchased a Jenn-Air range JES9860CD12993490 as a replacement for one previously installed. My problems started as soon as I found out the range was 1/2" wider than the older unit. I had a very expensive cut to make in a granite counter top for the installation (I could see no reason to change the width 1/2"). A short time later the new range started giving me problems. The following problems have all happened in the first year: (1) Two switches for the top units were replaced. (2) A wire came loose at the surface unit receptacle due to a poor factory welded connection. (3) The control board was replaced. (4) The oven temperature sensor was replaced.

The oven is still not holding set temperature! Set the temperature at 400 degrees and after 30 minutes it will fall to 350. My advise to anyone, DO NOT BUY a Jenn-Air product. If you do, be sure to buy an extended warranty. You are going to need it.

Jenn-Air Refrigerator Rusting

TENNESSEE -- Today I noticed that the front panel of my Jenn-Air refrigerator door panel, under the water dispenser is rusting. I contacted Jenn-Air and talked to a supervisor named ** regarding the defect and what kind of assistance she can give me regarding the problem with my refrigerator. She responded she would be more than happy to assist me with locating a showroom in the area where I live. What response from a supervisor of a company to a customer with a problem.

It appears that Jenn-Air have found an easy way to get rid of their customers by directing them to purchase a new refrigerator, rather than to help the customers. I have never seen a refrigerator panel to rust with the exception of the Jenn-Air refrigerators. What a company, and what a customer service and what a poor product. Never again I will buy a "Jenn-Air".

Jenn-Air Junk

A six year old 30-inch double-wall oven by Jenn-Air no longer stays within a reasonable temperature range and they call it normal. Set the oven to 400 degrees and watch it go to 480 and all of a sudden drop to 350 then zoom up to 450 then drop to 325 and Jenn-Air says a 20% plus or minus is within specs. We have replaced the control panel, no change.

As an aerospace engineer I find that totally unreasonable that an oven can't be controlled any better than that. If I designed anything for an aircraft or spacecraft to be 20% plus or minus, we would have aircraft falling out of the sky all the time. I would strongly suggest you think twice about buying any Jenn-Air product if that is the way they design their products.
