Stoneham, Ma location is going down hill fast!
By -

STONEHAM, MASSACHUSETTS -- The Stoneham LA Fitness location is relatively new. I joined because my old gym had issues with maintenance and cleaning, but after a year LA Fitness seems to be heading in the same direction. Every paper towel dispenser and toilet paper holder in the place seem to always be empty. Seriously?? This should not happen. Schedule someone earlier in the day or more hours to take of this.

The showers have developed a bug issue. Little flying bugs all over the shower wall. And the front desk staff... If there is someone there, don't expect a greeting, you will be lucky with a grunt as they talk on their cell phone. They don't even scan your card, they put the scanner up on the counter to do it yourself.

False Advertising

FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- They don't honor and their staff provide or blatantly lie how the whole promotion works. My team of US Navy/Marines and enrolled and was told by one of their staffs will not be able to add anyone to our VIP list once you already have completed to whole enrollment process which didn't make any sense. Right after I got back to my room, I immediately got on my account and successfully added my friend to my VIP list.

The next morning, we called the facility and was told her name didn't appear in my VIP list and couldn't verify not until the manager comes in. I strongly believe the VIP list is just a marketing strategy and not a legit incentive. We love the facility except the false incentive being offered to their valued customers.

Cancellation Trial Period.
By -

REDONDO, FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON -- We join LA Fitness on Jan 9th with "**" the assistant manager onsite. Told us that we are given a 7 days trial period to cancel. He signs us up. First he had us signed the agreement with simple explanation of the initiation fee of $175 for family and $25 ++ for each adult, first month and last month. All good and dandy. Then my husband and son decided not to join since they are busy with school activity. I stayed.

So we into the center on Jan 15th to cancel my husband and son trial membership. ** the manager went into the system and printed out 2 forms and told us to mail it out. Then I ask "how do I get a refund??" He said to visit the GM onsite on weekday when the GM can only do this. Anyway I finally made it on Thursday 20th to ask for a refund. Another manager help me and told me that my membership was not cancelled. He cannot do anything without the operation manager and he needs to ask ** and operation mgr to find out what was not done. LA fitness is a scammer for MONEY only. BE careful when joining!!

No Help

CRESCENT SPRINGS, KENTUCKY -- Please be sure to read the fine print when you cancel your LA Fitness membership. My daughter was home from college for Christmas. I purchased a membership for her to work out. Minimum 2 months when she is home for 3 weeks. I agree to this and was told when she goes back to school go to the front desk to have the membership cancelled.

I go to the front desk Friday to cancel her membership. I am handed a piece of paper that I have to mail into "CORPORATE". Not what I was told when we spent the $50 dollars for a 3 week membership. So I ask the manager if she would put the form in the mail and get it to "CORPORATE". "NO CAN DO! You need to mail it yourself." I look at the clown salesman who sold me the $50 3 week membership and he is useless. The gym is nice but their attention to detail and customer service are in need of a workout / body makeover!!!

Pushy sales

WOODBRIDGE, VIRGINIA -- I am so glad I read these reviews before signing on the dotted line. I went in yesterday with my 3 day free gym pass. The friendly salesperson was too busy to meet with me before the workout, so I met with him afterwards. He asked me what I thought and I told him truthfully, the new facility and equipment is great! We talked business and when he told me the $150 initiation fee and $50/month membership, I said, "Thanks, but that's much higher than I'm looking for." (There is LOTS of competition for other gyms in my area and I can easily find one that will meet my needs for $20 - $30 a month with NO initiation fee.)

So they pulled the sleazy car salesman trick out of the back and brought in the sales manager, who was arrogant, condescending and pushy and who could offer me a special rate of $99 initiation fee and $45 dollars, BUT ONLY IF I BOUGHT BEFORE 9 PM TONIGHT! That tactic turned my stomach. I thanked him and he left and told the sales guy I wasn't interested, then he told me he could do $50 initiation and $40 and that the offer would be good for 2 days. I was disgusted by the cheap, sleazy sales tactics at this point and said I'd give it some thought.

I did my computer research today which confirmed my negative feelings. There is NO WAY I will ever agree to a membership with this place! Thanks for the input all!

All They Want Is Your Money
By -

CAPE CORAL, FLORIDA -- I recently moved and my new credit card was lost/stolen in the mail. It took awhile for the bank to process a new one (which I still don't have) and in the meantime my LA Fitness membership was on that card (now being expired). They began calling and harassing me almost daily about getting them a new card, giving them my bank information, wanting to know when I would be getting the card (like I control the bank and postal service...). They even went as far as calling me at 8:30 AM on Thanksgiving Day morning.

LA Fitness is the only club around here that has a pool, which is why I joined. However, dealing with the wannabe street thugs hanging out on the machines, the filthy showers, and old people taking up all the lanes in pool with their coffee cloches isn't worth it so I hadn't been in quite some time. As a matter of fact I haven't been for a month before the credit card expired. However, they demand their money and THEY WILL NOT LET YOU CANCEL. Cannot even do it on-line, have to call (a line they never answer).

LA Fitness Bait and Switch

MESA, ARIZONA -- LA Fitness on Gilbert Rd. in Mesa, AZ called me at my work number and told me that if I renewed my membership then and there I would get a free membership for one family member or person of my choosing for 6 months. I went in to register my daughter and the manager of the club said they would get her set up, but she needed to come in and provide her driver's license for membership. When she went in they told her there was no such program, that a person could only come free if they came with me. I called and the manager told me that he would give her a "gift" and that I was unreasonable. I told them they could not rip me off this way.

LA Fitness Screws Customers
By -

REDLANDS, CALIFORNIA -- How can a company this large be so bad at bookkeeping? I signed up for a membership for both my daughter and I and paid $ 500 for each one. For at least four months I was told I had a $ 18.00 balance due. The salesman had said since I was paying in full he would reduce it to an even $ 500. Nope, I was hounded and told I was going to collections over it. Finally a manager got tired of me complaining and took care of it.

The latest problem is that my daughter signed up for personal training sessions and was told she could cancel after 4 months. She has moved and cannot even go to the sessions yet they refuse to cancel. They said she has to show a proof of moving (she's in college and all of her bills go to ME and she has no utility bills). They refuse to listen and are again threatening us. What the heck is going on? Are they that hard up for customers that this is the only way they can get money? My recommendation is to GO TO A DIFFERENT GYM - these guys will rip you off any chance they get!

Unauthorized Charges
By -

MURRIETA, CALIFORNIA -- On 02/04/08 I received a call from a training manager letting me know that he had accidentally charged my account $150.00 on 02/03/08. He told me the money was going to be refunded that day. 5 days later the money still hadn't been returned so I called the corporate office and sat on hold for 45 minutes before speaking with Jeffrey (ext **) who told me they would return the money that day and that there was nothing they could do.

I told him that I wanted my contract voided because I did not feel comfortable doing business with a company that could basically "steal" money from me whenever they wanted and lie about refunding it. Again Jeffrey (who did a lot of rude sighing) told me no, that I should just be happy with them refunding my money. I asked to speak with his manager and he said he was it! Yeah Right! So I asked to talk to the owner of LA Fitness and then he told me that manager would call me back.

I called the location where it happened and they told me that Cutter, the general manager would call me back. Neither called me. So I am now going to file a police report and pursue any other legal route necessary to VOID my contract. That this company thinks they can do whatever they want with privileged banking information and take no responsibility for it is incredibly disturbing! Think twice about doing business with a company with no ethical values!

Deceptive Sales Tactics
By -

BELLEVUE, WASHINGTON -- A few months ago I decided to join LA Fitness because they were the only club in my area that offered an organized basketball league. Going through the "song and dance" of a sales presentation I asked if the league was free. "Of course it was said the used car salesman in front of me (Patrick), now just sign here." Two months later the sign up sheet for the league appears, it has a $65 enrollment fee with it. Now $65 is not a whole lot of money, but since I was told there was no fee, I complained.

I was told it was never free and I has misheard the sales guy. Wrong! If I was told a league upfront cost $65 I would have still signed up for the club, since I had already negotiatiated my membership @ $35/month and no enrollment fee. I felt that since I was lied to that I am going to quit this gym for ethical reason. Now let's see how my cancellation goes...
