DAYTON, OHIO -- This was our 6th piece of La-Z-Boy furniture in 20 years for us. After 2 years the "New La-Z-Boy" sofa mechanism failed. The frame bent under regular adult usage. While still covered under their "lifetime parts warranty"; the authorized service was by prepaid fee only and at La-Z-Boy's convenience.

The Dayton Ohio La-Z-Boy Showcase would only provide service if we would wait until they were "in the area" and we prepaid for their travel time. Since we are only 5 miles from their location we were apparently waiting until they could charge multiple customers $130 for the same 15 minutes of travel. A single customer - portal to portal service call was not possible at any price. Double and triple billing are the ethical norm for Dayton La-Z-Boy. 6th piece of La-Z-Boy... wished we would have stopped at 5.

Price Match - Delivery

RICHMOND BRITISH COLUMBIA -- Initially they had a 1/2 off leather sale in Richmond, BC. The Victoria and Nanaimo BC La-z-boy stores said they'd price match. Then the price they wanted to start from was over $1000 more than the price on the item in the store. Apparently they don't put retail prices on items, just SALE prices. The Richmond store agreed to deliver to us (on the island) in Victoria for the same cost as from the local store. $100. The sales woman just called and wanted to know if I could pick the item up. She said their delivery was "curb-side only." I don't think this is how you make lasting customers - and the price she is working from now is $100 more than the price I started with here in Victoria.

When I called the first saleswoman at Nanaimo, she gave me a lecture that the sofa's both were 3d class leathers and I didn't want either. 180 degrees from what she told us in the store. When I tried to discuss it with a local owner/stakeholder, I'm given false information as to who that is (** at Nanaimo per Dawn at Victoria). ** says I'm just a manager and we don't price match because transport costs are too high now.

I had a previous problem with the same style recliner in Birmingham that the frame came apart on. I paid a contractor to fix it because La-z-boy said that when they came I was not at home - and that they were to take the piece to their warehouse to repair it. Yeah, right. Trouble is, it sits better than any other comparable sofa on the market, but their service is crap, and their bait-and-switch fraud in sales sucks. ** Victoria BC.

Offgassing From Furniture

I rec'd my new furniture on 12/17/2011, starting on 12/18/2011 I have had dizziness, I left my home for a week and the dizziness went away when I returned so did my dizziness. I moved across the country and left the furniture behind to "air" out some more and my dizziness went away, rec'd my furniture and within days of it being in my house my dizziness has returned. Anyone else experiencing this. Before I left AZ, I spoke with the mgr at the Flagstaff, AZ store and she said it should go away: when they set up new displays, they leave the doors open because of the gasses being emitted". Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Dizzy.

Worst Location to visit

PARAMUS, NEW JERSEY -- I have been an avid La-Z-Boy customer for some 25 years until I encountered one of the nastiest sales people for La-Z-Boy. My wife and I went to purchase a new recliner, as mine had seen better days. We went to our local La-Z-Boy location in Paramus, NJ.

After being greeted pleasantly by one of the sales staff we found not one, but two recliners that we were interested in. We questioned about the availability, and the saleswoman walked away, we thought she was checking on the stock. After about five minutes a different woman approached and stated we could take the one with us, but the other would be delivered in 2 to 3 weeks.

My wife stated that we were interested in "stock" items. The woman responded in an extremely nasty and demeaning tone "it is in stock in our warehouse in Maryland, what don't you understand?" When I cautioned the woman on her tone, and indicated that I wanted her name, she immediately walked away while stating that she was the "Manager" and added that she was calling the Police and wanted us to leave. We left and went to the local Bob's store and bought a new living room and bedroom set. I will never return to a La-Z-Boy store again!!!

Beware of La-Z-Boy's Special Order Services.

TYLER, TEXAS -- I purchased approx. $9,000.00 worth of furniture from La-Z-Boy Gallery in Tyler, TX back in December 2009. I had to special order two sections of the sectional sofa that totaled about $1,600.00 just for those two pieces. I had to pay for them upfront before they would order them and was told that it would take approx. 2 months or less to receive them. It has been more than 3 months since that day, and still no furniture. Each time we contact them to get an update, we get a different answer every time we talk to them and nothing has been true.

We contacted them again today and were told that the items had been made, but were still sitting in China, waiting for them to fill a container before it could ship out, and we would have to wait at least another 4-6 weeks. When we said that we were tired of waiting and tired of all of the lies they have told us, and that we wanted a refund, we were told that there are no refunds for special order items, even if we never received them. I am sick and tired of the lies and excuses, and have contacted my attorney. Perhaps they will give him a different response once they receive a lawsuit. Consumers beware...

Poor Customer Service - Sales Practices

PINEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA -- Please make sure that if you place on order for any La-Z-Boy furniture that you ask about all charges that they will bill you. I placed an order over the telephone to buy a Wall Hugger Recliner, asked whether they had the chair in their store, and was told "Yes." They needed a deposit, so I had them put it on my charge card and made arrangements to pick it up the next morning at the store. When I got to the store at 10:00 am the next morning the salesman told me that the chair was not at the store, that he would need to order it from the warehouse and would call me later in the day to tell me when they would have the chair for me to pick up.

He called to tell me that it would be a week before I could pick up the chair at the store and that there would be an extra $20 fee. I had driven 1 and 1/2 hours and still did not have a chair and then they wanted to charge me an extra $20 for me to drive back a week later (meaning another 1 and 1/2 hour drive) to get the chair. When I tried to talk to the store manager I was told several stories as to why she was not available to talk to about my situation. I cancelled the sale. I just want to save others from this same scam.

LANGLEY -- We also spent approximately $7,500 on furniture, leather reclining sofa and love seat and 2 custom fabric reclining chairs. On the sofa at one end that reclines there is an area between where the reclining part meets the middle of the sofa. This area is the size of my fist so quite noticeable. One of the chairs after approximately 3 weeks we noticed the fabric looked worn smooth and shiny and this chair shakes back and forth and rattle like it is 15 years old. So we phoned service only to find out that we had to pay for the service call to come out and have a look and if La-Z-Boy thinks your complaints are legitimate you will be reimbursed. HA HA.

So they send someone out to check. He takes his pictures and tells us that they could probably put more stuffing in the sofa and tells us that the chair is normal. But he will put his report in. We made a trip down to the store where we purchased out furniture and none of it had the problems we are having. The chairs didn't move anything like the one we have and there were no large spaces in the sofa recliners.

We get our call from La-Z-Boy today and they inform us that everything is normal and if we want more stuffing put in the sofa we will have to pay for labor. If we could return this stuff we would but of course you can't get your money back. Totally ticked. Would never recommend this company to anyone.

Resolution Update 01/27/2009:

Enough complaining, (different store) our chairs were replaced and our sofa repaired at their cost

Fabric Failure
By -

I have had a La-Z-Boy reclining sofa for a year and a half. On the foot rest of both recliners the upholstery has worn so thin that the foam can be seen underneath. It is not long before there will be large holes visible on both sides. The fabric warranty is only valid for one year. La-Z-Boy offered to send a "technician" out at a rate of $76 per hour, plus materials, which I declined. They are refusing to stand by their product. Now I am faced with a choice of reupholstering or replacing a sofa that is less than 2 years old.

Quality and Service - Lack of Both

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA -- We purchased a four seat theatre system on Nov. 8, 2006 - $3300 - from the San Jose La-Z-Boy on Blossom Hill Road. It was delivered Dec. 26, 2006. In January 2007, it was apparent the padding was compacting and shifting. A tech was sent out Feb. 16. He agreed the backs were flattening on two chairs. (We are just two people, so the middle two seats get no use.) And said he would recommend the repair to the two, but not all four. I repeated at least five times that all four chairs are defective, and he just kept repeating five times "I don't see nothing wrong."

Customer service sent a second tech who said he saw that both seat backs and seat cushions were failing, and that all four - made at the same time at the same factory - would require repair. Four days later, I was informed La-Z-Boy would order two new seat backs from the factory... the same factory whose "new" chairs didn't last a month. These things look like they have saggy wrinkled slipcovers!

I took the chairs to a local upholstery shop, and they determined that the foam padding is the cheapest and worst quality. Cost to repair with new dense foam - $2400. Next stop - Small Claims Court. I have already written the President and Corporate Customer Service, and am awaiting their reply - sent it certified return receipt as proof for Small Claims Court. If you need bad quality furniture - buy it at the flea market! It will be cheaper in price, but - trust me - the quality will be equal to, or maybe better than, La-Z-Boy. Customer service will definitely be equal - NONE.

We bought a power recliner for over $1000 4 years ago. The motor broke and the local store can't help. I called the 800 number and got a "specialist" for $109 who can't fix anything. He didn't give us this magic "number"... He said they'll call us, but they didn't. When I called them, they won't get us the new motor (which will cost us hundreds of dollars) without this number that doesn't exist.

I call repeatedly, no help. I have to send them my bill of sale which doesn't have the number either. Two months later, I have a broke worthless recliner, no repair in sight. We ended up having to buy another recliner because my disabled husband needs it. GO ELSEWHERE. For the money, you can get so much better service elsewhere.
