Maaco Poor Work Poor Service
By -

KENT, WASHINGTON -- I had work done to my car at the following location: Maaco Center M2184, 1020 Central Avenue South, Kent, WA 98032. The reason for this letter is to express my dissatisfaction on the work done and the quality of service. Here is the short version of the series of events leading to this conclusion.

After the initial work was done, the car was returned unwashed and the interior was a mess. It was apparent the seats, carpeting, etc. was not covered with anything while the car was worked on. The interior was covered with paint shop dust and smudges were on the steering wheel, door panels, shifter, pedals, back of seat, etc.

After a closer look at the work done, it was apparent some items were missed and new shop-caused issues showed up. These things includes surfaces painted that were NOT supposed to be painted, surfaces painted on one side but not the other, spot dullness, uneven shades, parts not re-installed properly, broken parts, etc. I called the shop to report my findings and faxed a list of the items. They instructed me to bring it back in two weeks.

Two weeks later, I brought it back in. The shop had the car for a week in order to fix the items. Upon pick-up, the car was again in the same condition as when I picked it up from the initial work (unwashed and the interior left a mess). It was difficult to see the quality of the work done.

Sure enough, after cleaning up the car, it was evident the poor quality of the job. There were uneven shades, dull areas, smudges, scratches, bubbles, they even broke my windshield washer nozzle. Once I again, I called the shop and again made arrangement to bring the car back in.

Long story short...they did not finish fixing the outstanding items and I ended up having to bring the car back again. This time, the owner, Dave Peckenpaugh, assisted. It was apparent from the very beginning of this interaction that this owner was not going to make good of his end of the deal. He stated, they are not perfect and that some things were going to be missed. But he further told me that he was not going to do any more work on those same items.

Part of my profession involves training in customer service and building products according to customer specs. In this arena, quality control is a must and is non-negotiable. In my Maaco experience, quality control or just plain quality does NOT exist. Bottom line is I got hosed!! Maaco made a promise, I paid for that promise, Maaco did not deliver what they promised. Don't believe their commercials.

Maaco rip-off

DALLAS, TEXAS -- Took 57 ford ranchero to Tony @ Harry Hines Dallas, TX location. Took 2 small sheets of paper for a reference as what was to be done. Tony walked around shaking his head like "OK I see yeah needs this and that etc." All seemed right when I left it in his care. After completion it looks bad, paint doesn't cover and all I wanted was the flat black old school primer look. My 33 yr. old son was with me for the entire episode and all subsequent trips to the shop. When we went to pick up Tony knew I was not happy at all especially after I went to the extra effort to go over everything individually getting his agreement and now the car is crappy all over.

Bodywork looks like a 10 yr. old had tried it. Told him this was not acceptable and I would be bringing it back when the mechanicals were done. He asked me to bring it after they would be able to move it easier as it was not running when I left it for the work. Now this p-o-s says to the new owner [as he sold it to another towel headed **]. I never agreed to do the bodywork with metal repair even though clearly it shows right on the 2 sheets of paper he had for reference since he didn't put anything on the work order [direct violation of deceptive trades act in Texas] for obvious reasons but hey, his biz.

I knew what I told him, my son knows what was said and for him to now take this position is ludicrous at best since he didn't write anything on his work order. He obviously had to know what to do, what color, etc. or he would not have a clue as to what to do to the car .

Since he asked for an exact amount of $1000 even, I feel he was just committing theft by deception because for what has been done really isn't worth anything because now someone has to go take the crap out where it was supposed to have been repaired with metal. All he had done was put some glob of bondo in there, ** sanded it and sprayed the wrong paint on it and sent me home with it saying he would make it right when I got it back to him after the mechanicals were completed. Taking this to the Atty. General for immediate prosecution before he leaves the country with my money.

Company Response 02/19/2010:

FYI- Toni is no longer part of maaco , he has gone for more than 4 yrs now

Vehicle Repair
By -

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- I purchased a brand new 2005 Nissan Titan. I was one of the unfortunate people to get hit by hail. I hadn't even had the truck for a week. It got hit hard they couldn't even do dentless paint repair on it. They were going to have to replace the paneling.

I decided that I would leave my truck at MAACO off Lamar Blvd. You know I asked them specifically if they could match the paint and give it back to me just like new and to please make sure not to damage the interior. Of course they said "that's what we specialize in". They also told me they could get it back to me in two weeks. So, I'm thinking great.

Two weeks later it's not ready, but they would leave me messages to tell me how the truck was progressing. Into the third week they left me a message that they were waiting on rivets. I didn't want to rush them because I wanted a quality job done. But when I was on the last days of my rental term, I called and they said it would be ready Wednesday then Thursday then Friday morning.

Well I didn't get to pick it until Friday at around 3:45 pm. Keep in mind they knew I had to be in school at 5:00 pm. I was all excited. My brand new truck I was finally getting it back. Hey it looked great from far away. Then I go in to sign over the checks and then I go and start to look at the truck. Well I look in the back and there is all this ashy looking stuff on my truck. The Maaco representative tells me that he'll get it wash. So, I'm thinking dirt. Well finally @ 4:30 they bring it back. I don't even have time to look at the final result because now I'm running late for school.

Guess what happens. My door doesn't lock. Then, that makes me think oh ** what else is wrong. I can't even tell you what they did to my interior and exterior. Here's a short list. Paint is missing, chipped, or bubbling. The rivets that they were waiting on for a week are coming undone. The interior has grease on the ceiling, red paint on the dashboard and they even cut up my trim with some sort of knife.

Well I put a stop payment on the checks I wrote them. I called them to tell them what I had done and that I was very upset. Well they said they would make it right and get me a rental. Let's hope that they will get it back to me like they had originally promised. I will keep you updated. BE CAREFUL.

TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA -- I took my car in for front-end damage. ** Maaco, 924 West 223rd St, Torrance, CA 90502 said the car was leaking fluid. The car did not leak before we took it in. Next day, he said the car is not leaking and to pick up vehicle because it was repaired. I drove 2 miles to my house and the car leaks a drop every five seconds. He said it was not his problem. The front grill was not secured and two wires were hanging there without a home.

Now that the vehicle is home, I called him on the leak that he said "stopped". I told him I was going to take it to my mechanic to fix, and secure the front grill, and find a home for the two loose wires. He now says he wants to take it to his mechanic to get it fixed. His honesty and integrity is now beyond repair. Would you trust a man who consistently lies, is combative, and makes your blood pressure rise?

MINNESOTA -- My vehicle was vandalized while at Maaco in Little Canada MN. The owner Dick ** was the worst businessman I have ever had to deal with. He would not let me see the truck after it was vandalized. He said they would fix it. I did not want this. I wanted my insurance agent to view the damage.

The owner Dick ** said they did not file a police report. He would not let me on his lot when the Sheriff ** showed up to take the report. I had to leave without my vehicle and without seeing the damage or I would be arrested. I still do not have my truck 10 days later and have filed a lawsuit against him for the value of the vehicle. Do not ever trust Dick **.

Paint/Bumper

FRAMINGHAM, MASSACHUSETTS -- Maaco advertised a bumper paint job for $179.00. I visit the Maaco facility in Framingham, MA and was told that the price only included the paint. Total for the work would be $379.00. I'm quite certain I heard the commercial on the radio. I don't recall hearing that the price only included paint. Apparently the sign on their wall did state in fine print that it covered paint only. I don't go to a clothing store and buy a shirt on sale and then at checkout am told that the sale price only included the sleeves. Very deceptive and dishonest. I will never again visit a Maaco shop.

Maaco Ruined Our Soldier-Son's Truck
By -

PLANO, TEXAS -- We took our son's (1st Lt. US Army) truck to Maaco for some touch-up painting. The truck (a Ford F150) had no body damage, only a few road chips, a 12"-18" scratch on the passenger door and a half-dollar-size chip on the edge of the driver's door. The manager offered to repaint the whole truck for $117 more than the touch-up job. I was a fool to trust him. His shop is a haven of lies and incompetence. They absolutely ruined the paint job.

There were countless drips. There were literally pools of paint on the bumpers, roof and hood. The windshield-washer nozzles were painted shut. There were streaks where the air hose was drug through wet paint. Dirt and debris was throughout the paint — everywhere. And 'orange peel' paint was on every panel, bumper, roof and hood.

We tried to resolve the screed-up mess with Maaco, taking the truck back twice (and doing without it for more than a week). Their handiwork only worsened. It was an unbelievably frustrating experience with an incredibly inept Maaco franchise. 'Ripoff' is a kind and generous assessment of the incompetence and deceit-filled ‘service' you can expect from Maaco of Plano.

Do Not Ever Use Maaco In Ft. Myers, Florida
By -

FORT MYERS, FLORIDA -- In September my husband and I decided in get my 2002 Kia Sportage painted. I sold gold jewelry I had for years to get the money together for the paint job. We went to the Maaco in Fort Myers, Florida, got the estimate and was told to bring the car back in a week which we did. We then picked up the car and noticed after a couple of days that it had "orange peel" on the hood and top which was the main reason or the paint job.

We then took it back, had the top and hood repainted, was told to come and pick the car up and when we pulled in the parking lot and before I ever got out of my husband's car, I noticed the hood and top were different colors. In the process they lost the stopper to my hatchback. We then had to take the car back again to have the hood and top repainted to match the rest of the car. They did me a "favor" to make me "happy" by clear coating the hood and top.

Now the rest of the car looks like it was never painted. The last trip (our 8th trip and over $100.00 in gas) they broke the nozzles that connect to the windshield washer. I now have another trip (30 miles one way) to have those put on. Phone calls were seldom returned, I had to call them, their "customer service" sucks and I would advise anyone NEVER EVER take your car to the Maaco on Fowler Street in Fort Myers.

MAACO in Columbus, Ohio Painted My Car and...
By -

COLUMBUS, OHIO -- I read some bad reviews on MAACO, then after someone scratched my car I had no choice but to chance MAACO to paint my car. The whole car had to be repainted. MAACO on Fairwood Avenue in Columbus, Ohio painted my whole car (black) and only charged me $394.98. I got there to pick up my car and was SHOCKED! They did take a little long to do it. I dropped it off on Monday and got it back the following week on Wednesday. BUT the work they did was GREAT! The guy Chris was very professional. I returned in another black car, a brand new car I might add, and the MAACO paint job on my 04 looked as good as the new 2010 I was driving!

If all the other MAACO's suck or not I don't know but this MAACO was GREAT! I recommend them and even though I took the cheap way out and got the cheap stuff I can't tell it from my new car. Mind you that was just to paint it black over black and didn't count between the doors etc, but the job was beautiful. I'm not getting paid to say this nor am I in any way part of MAACO but the Fairwood Ave. MAACO must be the best MAACO because they do awesome work and it was UNDER $400 for a FULL-size Ford Crown Vic. I fully trust them now and will return for other car paint needs!

If this is their cheap stuff I can only say don't buy their good stuff because I don't think the car could look ANY better even if it was brand new!!! I'm guessing the good stuff must just last longer or something because it looks brand new!!

The $229.99 Commercial Is Not True!
By -

RALEIGH -- NO NOT FALL FOR THE MAACO COMMERCIAL!!! I called the Maaco Raleigh's location to confirm the special offer on their commercial. It is not the price at all! The office lady said $229.99 is only ONE coat of paint. It doesn't include cleaning, finishing, polishing and everything else they have to do for a proper paint job. She then explain to me an average paint job out of the door will be about $500-$700. I told the office lady to please revise the advertising and she hung up on me... If you have a paint job to do, go anywhere but Maaco...
