I Was Burned by a Fish Sandwich

PENNSYLVANIA -- I went to McDonald's on Saturdays Jan 31 2012 about 3.00 pm with my family for my granddaughter's birthday
and we ordered fish sandwiches and other stuff and went back to the children's area, passed out the children's food and went to bite into my fish sandwich and deep fryer grease came out of the sandwich and burned me. I went up and asked for some serves on that matter and showed the manager my mouth. She asked me if I wanted an ice cream cone for my mouth.

I said no, I have ice on it. So I asked the manager for a suggestion box or complaint box and they didn't know where there was one or what to do. Then she said "call the number on the cup", so I went back, sat down and tried calling. I got a fax ring, so I left and went home. By then my whole mouth was burning, so I went to the hospital and the er doctor told me that I second degree burns in my mouth, and gave me pain medicine for my mouth and follow up with my family doctor. So Sunday I got so that I couldn't breathe right.

So I called the family doctor and she called me back - I told her what happened and that I thought it was my asthma and she called me in steroid and told me to take two pills and do my breathing treatments and see them in the morning. I struggled all that night breathing so my husband called them and they got me right in. The doctor took a look at me and said "You have second degree burns in your mouth and down your throat." So they shot me up with a shot to open my air ways.

It helped a little that day but the next day I was back to having trouble breathing. So I went back and the doctor shot me up again and they kept giving me more steroids to take. Now I'm sick with stomach problems because of all the medicine I've been on and still having problems breathing.

TYLER, TEXAS -- I just went to the McDonald's on 5th street and the loop, store # 20046. I placed a large order. When I got to the second window I was first handed the bag of fries, as soon as I peered in the bag I saw that one container was only about halfway full, and as I picked up the other two cartons I saw that they too weren't full so I politely asked the guy at the drive through if they could please fill the fries because I had intentionally super sized these meals so that I would have enough food to feed all the children that I have at home.

He handed it to a manager ** and she said "We don't open the boxes all the way," as she rolled her eyes at me! Then she yanked the bag out of the guys hands and he told me to please pull forward because they were waiting on fries. I pulled up but turned off the engine and went right inside because I was worried, with the way this MANAGER was acting about what would happen to my food. As soon as I walked in the door another employee was handing me my french fries. I let her know that I still needed two kids meals.

She was then looking for the ketchup and told ** or something like that at the register that I needed ketchup. I told her that I did not need ketchup but the rest of my food. This ** told me that it was not this other lady's fault that I was upset. WOW!! This was not even her place, and she did not even know what was going on to even be saying anything. The ** lady then asked me if the kids meals were chicken or burgers. If they had not been cheating and deleting the order before it was completed they would known what I needed.

When I got home the food was cold, oooh and by the way, the fries were the same ones... Not any hot fresh ones and they had just been fluffed up probably by someone's hands, no one was wearing gloves!! I spent 29.47 on this and threw it all in the trash. I plan to be speaking to ** first thing in the morning and getting my money back!!

Moving the Pole Out of the Drive-Thru Lane After So Many Vehicles Have Side Swiped It Pulling Up to the Window
By -

RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA -- The drive-through at the Collins and Limonite location was a very tight fit for most size vehicles especially the full size. I had been to that location before once but not through the drive-through. The tight fit is not the whole problem, it's the fact that one of the building protection pole was mounted on the drive-through lane below the curb making a tight squeeze even tighter! Causing vehicles to side swipe the pole every time.

After my first visit to dine-in, our next visit was drive-through without knowing of the pole in the lane. Sure there are signs posted MAKE WIDE TURNS before coming up to the curve and pole, but no matter how wide people made that turn without going over the curb and grass on passenger side and just the width of the lane, the vehicle hit the pole on driver's side coming out of the turn.

I didn't ever want to go through there again but one week later I did and said to my wife "That was easier." For some reason we had more room, then I look down out the drivers window and seen that the pole had been moved to the top of the curb instead of below the curb on the lane itself where it was in the first place. That made me mad, poor original construction planning!

I was going to let it go but the more I drove by that McDonald's, the more I thought about it. I wondered if I was not the only one to hit that pole. How long did it take before putting up the wide turn signs and finding out that didn't solve much before cutting the pole out of the lane and setting it up on the curb?

So one day I stopped there with the camera and started shooting, now there's enough room barely! Managers came out, took my name and number and said I would be called by someone else who could talk with me about this and nobody has called me back in weeks. Thanks for finally fixing the problem with the pole BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR TRUCK, I would like that fixed also! Does anybody know of any class action suit?

29 Minute Wait for Food
By -

ABINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA -- On the morning of Saturday, October 29th, 2011 I went to McDonald's (the newly renovated store #842 on Old York Road in Abington, PA) to get my wife and I some breakfast. I decided to go inside, since I wasn't 100% positive what I wanted yet. When I went inside, I looked at the menu and decided what I wanted. The cashier assisted me and took my order.

I got my receipt at 9:31 AM (that is the time stamp on the receipt as well). My order was a small coffee, 1 big breakfast with hotcakes, 2 bacon egg and cheese Mcgriddles, and 1 order of hash browns. There were approx. 4 orders ahead of me (on the inside orders). They seemed be getting a little restless, but slowly and surely, some of them were getting their food. I noticed that the screen that shows the orders were approaching the 600 second mark, and at times, exceeding it.

I understand that it's a Saturday morning, so it may take a little longer than normal. More people were coming in and placing orders inside. The people who were helped before me eventually all had their food and I anticipated my food to be one of the next ones to be served. Several minutes went by and I still didn't have my food, while people after me (checking the screen that we all could see, some of those people had the same food items that I had ordered, but not my order).

At about 9:55, one of the employees asked me what I ordered. I showed him the receipt and he said that they would work on it. For some reason, my order was no longer on the screen, so I'm thinking that they removed it without filling it. I'm not sure why they would do this, though. Finally, at 10:00 AM, I received my order. I requested my receipt back, but they lost it on the ground, so a new one was printed. I was not given an apology of any sort for having to wait so long. When I did get home, the coffee that was order was cold. I believe that there should be hash browns included in the big breakfast, but it was not included.

Normally, I have no problem waiting for food when things get busy at a restaurant or a fast food place, but waiting 29 minutes for an order is ridiculous at a fast food place. I could have gone to a sit down breakfast place and received my food in 29 minutes. I went to McDonald's because I wanted breakfast that I could bring home somewhat quickly, but having to wait 29 minutes for my food isn't quick by a fast food standard, and not even for a breakfast restaurant standard.

Inappropriate music videos in children's play area.
By -

Hi. I'd like to clarify first off that we just don't go to McDonald's but my daughter was invited to a birthday party there so we went. The food was as expected, greasy, salty, unsatisfying, but hey, it's fast food so I've got no complaints about the food quality.

My complaint is about the grossly inappropriate music videos they were playing in the kids' play areas & the room they set the party up in! This was a party for 5-year-olds so I would have expected Nickelodeon or Disney something similar but no, what we got was half naked women gyrating around a guy wearing clothing several sizes too big for him while he talked (I say talked because it was not singing) about degrading women! It was disgusting!

Anyway, I went to the counter & asked them to change the channel only to be told that head office tells them what to put on the TV screens & they're not allowed to change it. I wasn't going to accept this answer so I asked to speak with the manager. The manager said the same thing so I asked he to turn the TV OFF in the play room which she said she would LIKE to do but couldn't because other people might be watching it.

Grrr... so I went back to the room, got a chair, climbed up & unplugged the TV set myself. I planned on apologizing to the other parents in there if they were watching but also explaining that I didn't feel comfortable letting children be exposed to that kind of media. It would appear that there was no need because as soon as I unplugged it they all clapped! Seems like they were all thinking the same thing but were too shy to complain!

Anyway, I wrote a letter to McDonald's head office here in Australia & I got a nice letter back explaining that they wholeheartedly agree & will be reviewing all the content shown on the screens in areas specifically designed for children. So yay for affirmative action!

So in the end I guess it's not really a complaint because common sense prevailed, but I think managers need to be allowed to use their own common sense in certain situations & make decisions that are in the best interests of not only the customer but also the company!

Terrible Service/Complaint Not Addressed by Manager
By -

I have been going to McDonald's for breakfast for 6 months, consistently the same items ordered. This morning, the clerk was on her cell phone. I asked, "Is anyone working here?" Then she put the cell phone away and inquired, "What do you want?" I gave the same order I always give, "One fruit and oatmeal cup, 2 sausage McMuffins with no egg, 2 apple pies to go." Then she told me an amount of money that I knew was incorrect.

I told her that there was something wrong as the amount was a different one than the $5.39 it always is. She took the $20.00 bill out of my hand, and now it was totally out of my control. The order was entered incorrectly as the amount on the register did not show $5.39. I told the person, "You've got something wrong." I repeated my order again and said it's supposed to be $5.39. I was ignored.

The clerk gave me back the change. The clerk offers me back change, and then said, "2 fruit and oatmeal cups." I said, "NO! 1 fruit and oatmeal cup, 2 sausage McMuffins with no egg, 2 apple pies to go." "OH, you want three of the cookies!" "No, I don't want any of the cookies." Then she insisted on finishing the transaction with cookies. At that point I asked the person standing next to her, "Are you the manager here?" She said, "Yes." I said, "We have a problem here, I'm being ignored." I repeated again what my order was supposed to be.

The manager took the register tape from my hand and did some corrective action on the order, then offered me change, but not the register tape. I said, "This person would not even listen to me. We have a problem here, are you going to report it?" She said, "I'm sorry." "I want this reported." She stated, "I know." She said, "I'm sorry" two different times. I left finally with a correct order. I have tried to call the consumer line, always busy, the corporate line, not available. So... beware of McDonald's!!

Workers And Manager Were Rude
By -

When I got to the ordering speaker, I ordered two sweet teas for a dollar and dollar regular coke and one diet coke. I also ordered three dollar chicken sandwiches and six McDoubles. When he read the order back, I didn't understand him so when I read it on the screen, he only had one McDouble. So I pulled forward to pay and told the young man that I wanted six McDoubles so he added them to my order and I did pay with cash. He asked if I wanted my receipt, I did say no. Then I pulled forward to receive our food. I had been driving for two hours and at 8pm it was still 96 degrees outside.

When I got to the last window, I could see the manager standing across the room from the drive up window and there were two girls just standing there laughing and carrying on and on. I sat there for about five minutes before they even opened the window and started shoving food my way. I did take the bag of food. Then we received our drinks which I was one short. I did not get the regular coke. I told the girl at the window and she said she did not have one for me, I must be wrong.

So I went on to tell her that the young man must have rung it up wrong because I had to correct my order when I pulled up to pay. And she just shut the window and got the manager. He asked what was wrong so I tell him and he said "you did not pay for it", so I told him I would pay for it and he rung it up and shoved the receipt and my change all in a wodded up mesh in my hand and shut the window. I did find the entire experience offensive because they need to learn manners there. I did pay for my food and had to wait a long time without any communication. I know people make mistakes. I make mistakes myself but they don't have to be so rude.

The manager never even said sorry. Maybe it was all my fault but I did choose that place to spend my money. I will never ever eat there again and I will tell people about the service I received. Just because my order was only 14 dollars doesn't make me less important than the next customer. I just think that they need a crash course on the fact the public pretty much covers the payroll. Unsatisfied customer!!!

Automation at McD's - the FUTURE...Of Waiting...
By -

I was waiting on my wife last night at the Columbus Ohio airport - the only merchant near there is McDonald's so I pulled up for a large Diet Coke. First, I assume the ordering was one of those "outsourced" remote ordering setups as I was greeted with "Someone will be with you shortly" in a Middle Eastern or Indian accented male voice. About 90 seconds later, a female asks for my order. "Large Diet Coke, please." QUARTER POUNDER WITH CHEESE appears on the screen and she asks "Anything to drink?" I respond, "yes a large diet coke and please remove the Quarter Pounder." She does and I pull forward, pay my $1.48, and pull to second window.

As I wait at the window, I watch a conveyor belt drink dispenser dispensing soda into numerous cups while the girl makes coffee. I was glad I didn't get coffee since she opened the coffee packer with her teeth - but that's not what this review is about... I've been at the window for about 45 seconds and the coffee girl disappears. She reappears with a bag of food and tries to hand it to me. I tell her "I just ordered a Diet Coke." Confusion.

She puts the food down and looks at the drink conveyor belt and tells me "There is no diet coke on the belt" and continues to look at me. So I ask "Can you make me one? That's all I ordered." She shuts the window and looks dumbfounded at the automated drink maker... she waves another girl over to stare at it. They both laugh and call another one over who I assume is the manager. She hits a few buttons and a large cup pops out and is filled with ice. A small amount of soda, not enough to fill the cup, is dispensed and the belt moves it from under the dispenser. They laugh again and hit another button.

Slowly, the belt moves the cup back toward the dispenser - stopped a few times for another drink to be automatically dispensed. Finally, my cup gets to the nozzle and more drink is dispensed. The manager walks away, the coffee girl puts a lid on my drink, gets a straw and hands me the drink. As she does, I chuckle and as "Wouldn't it have been easier to just to do that manually?" She says "probably" and shuts the window.

Now, I am all about technology - I work in the technology field and I love automation as long as it is "smart automation" and contributes to efficiency. I get what McD's is trying to do - but when the system shuts down and employees are not empowered and/or smart enough to work around the issue, customer are left waiting 5 minutes for food and drink.

Mistaken Identity

LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA -- I went to McDonald's restaurant yesterday to buy something to eat for breakfast. I went to the cashier, and he said to me "I cannot serve you. I asked why, he wouldn't answer me. I had to ask him four times before he answer me. He said a customer complained and said I ask them for money. I told him I have never asked any person in this restaurant for money. You are mistaking me for someone else. I asked to talk to the manager, they act they didn't want to be bother.

Finally someone comes, but she cannot speak English, only Spanish. Someone has to translate to her what I said. That was pointless, so I asked to talk to someone else. This guy came, and I asked him "Do you not have cameras in this restaurants? Shouldn't check the cameras first, before you accuse me of doing something I did not do?" He said to me, "We will check the cameras the next time." I told him "When I come into this restaurant, I buy something to eat and I leave. I do even talk to anyone in this restaurant." I was very angry, I was accused of something I did not do.

I asked about the customer that made the complaint. He said, "We cannot tell that information." I had someone who made a complaint against me, who was hiding like a coward. I think if you are going to make a complaint at least face them first, before you lie and accuse them of something they did not do. I asked for a number to call, they gave a number, but I didn't call it, because it look like a number of a friend of theirs who would just side with them. I call the corporate office, and made a complaint on this site and another site. I also made a complaint to the Better Business Bureau.

Working at McDonalds

ILLINOIS -- I have worked at McDonald's for 3 yrs. It is a privately owned one. I'm a crew member. I was offered a promotion but I had some personal issues so I wanted to wait. Here's things I don't like.. New employees acting like they know everything and telling you what to do. Employees that are lazy and don't like to work. The pay kind of sucks. Our shake machine has a lot of problems.

Things I do like.. My regular customers. My managers for the most part. I don't mind people complaining about their food, I complain at different restaurants too. I don't like it when people call you names because you have to follow rules and charge for extra sauce. We don't make the rules, we have to follow them though. I don't like when customers come in and call you very bad names, and start screaming because you accidentally messed up their order.

Accidents happen folks, don't sit and scream about it. The managers can only do so much, refund, free food. Stuff like that, screaming about a sandwich isn't going to make them want to help you out. Most customers here are understanding. But every once and a while we get very mean people.

Oh and I don't like it when customers come through drive through and act like they are better than you cause you work at McDonald's. I didn't have to be here three years and currently work here but... I enjoy my job very much. Very rude customers make great stories later... did you hear the one about the lady screaming her head off because we put ketchup on her sandwich? You know stuff like that.

I understand about getting mad when your order is always wrong at the same McDonald's. I don't know what to tell you then. But sometimes they are tiny mistakes, and people think we are horrible people because of it. I try and work hard, all my managers will say I'm one of the best workers. But sometimes I even make mistakes. And about customer service, I've never been rude to a customer, but I haven't always been the polite like I usually am... there is a difference. Sometimes we are having very bad days, we're all people........
