Amazingly Bad Service

WORLDWIDE -- I had an exorbitantly priced 4-leg trip (to Minnesota, Australia, LA, and home). The university I was visiting in Australia asked me to stay an extra day and changed one leg of the flight by a day, and that increased the price to $2,900. After making the first flight (to Minnesota), I found out that my husband and children's dad was hospitalized and not expected to live long. I hopped on a plane and flew back. I called Orbitz, and first they asked for proof from hospital. I was planning to get doctor's note, but my husband died the next day so I got death certificate.

(That had on it the reason for admission to hospital, time of death, etc., and that time was almost exactly the same as the scheduled flight.) Orbitz then asked for marriage certificate. (Both had to be faxed not sent as scanned docs, so each time I had to leave home to send.) Then they asked for funeral home name and address. Could only accept by fax! Then they said they needed doctor's note. I told them at that point I would not send anything else - that they needed to deal with airline. Each time I was on hold for at least 30 minutes, and each phone operator ended the call (on the day after my children's dad died) with "have a great day."

Now I have no idea whether they are doing anything about getting refund. They said 45 days. US Air said I should see it in my account already, but of course there's no refund there. I'd call, but I can't stand to be on hold for 30 minutes again.

Unclear Customer Service Rep

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA -- I called Orbitz today to add one more day to my vacation which would require an additional rental car day and a change in flight. I was told that my car rental would be cancelled and rebooked for a new higher price. I said OK for that. My original cost was $607 for the whole trip then it went to $749.

The representative spoke about a $400 flight change. So to reassure what my total cost would be I asked if I would be only paying the difference of $607 and $749 and she said yes. I asked twice and got attitude for asking the second time. I thought the $400 dollars was the total of my entire flight not for changing. That's why I asked multiple times if my total was only going to go up to $749.

Well the second I checked my bank account I noticed that I was charged that $400 taking me to over a $1000 on the whole trip. That's why I asked multiple times about my total. The customer service desk won't help me when I tell the situation. All I did was sit on hold the entire time. If they listen to the recording they could clearly hear me ask multiple times about my total charges and the representative clearly state that I will only be paying the $749 total. I did not want to double my charges for only one extra day on vacation.

HORRIBLE. I Am Done With Orbitz

Orbitz is horrible. I have used them for many years, but this is the end. I booked two tickets to Europe, then never received a confirmation or itinerary. I called Customer Service, and they couldn't find one either so I re-booked. Then I get my Visa bill with TWO charges for $2,600!

I call the airline and sure enough, I've been booked twice on the same flight. I call Orbitz and after a half an hour on hold, I'm told that I have to call back when the airline is open. "Why can't they just take care of this?" I ask. Oh no, it only works when you're on the phone. This is when I slam the phone down on the representative (which I never do this kind of thing) because I am so angry. Screw you, Orbitz. I am taking my thousands of dollars of annual travel someplace else.

Highly Untrustworthy Orbitz/CheapTickets

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- Purchased 8 tickets on Orbitz and CheapTickets for 2 families to NY for a 04th July vacation trip. Very interestingly, both the sites did not provide the reservation conf # at the end of the ticketing process. However, my credit card had a temp hold for 2 days and after close follow ups, they said "Your reservation did not complete". I've to rebook the tickets again and since prices went up, had to pay an additional $800 for the same. I would never ever visit these sites for any travel plans/bookings. Be aware of these sites - Orbitz, cheaptickets.com, Travelocity, tripadvisor.

Avoid Being Ripped Off and Gain Hours of Your Life Back by NOT Using Orbitz

PORTLAND, OREGON -- I fly frequently and have never had as much trouble as I have had since using Orbitz. I had cancelled an airline ticket a few months back and called last week to redeem it for a one-way flight. After an hour on the phone with a representative that could not find the flight I was looking for on their site, he was finally able to process the redemption, took an additional $105 of my money and sent me a confirmation for my flight. I showed up at the airport today to catch my redeemed flight and could not check in at the kiosk. After spending 40 minutes in line, I was issued a boarding pass and sent on my way.

As I went to board the flight, the airline informed me that my ticket was not valid. They then called the airline to find out that the representative from Orbitz had not sent over the confirmation to the airline. By this point it was too late for them to hold the plane. I watched my plane leave without me on the Friday before a holiday weekend and was told I had to call Orbitz since it was their error. I am still sitting on hold with Orbitz now and have been for an hour and a half. They told me they could rebook me for a charge and get me home by tomorrow evening. Unacceptable!

I asked for a refund which will I was told is not applicable and I am now stuck paying additional money to get home. If you'd like a reliable company with good customer service, ORBITZ is NOT that company!! Save your time and money and go elsewhere!

Charged $50 to Correct a Letter in Name

I made reservations for my son so he could go home for a few days. When I was done I saw that there was one letter in his name that was wrong, was supposed to be letter Y but was a T. Since the two letters are side by side it was an honest error. I tried to "edit" the name on ORBITZ' website. Only 3 minutes had passed since reservations were made, and it kept saying "Unable to edit at this time, try again later." So I called ORBITZ on the phone and had a nightmare from HELL!

The lady I got said I could cancel the reservation (at a cost of $200) and redo it. I told her it had just been made and she did not care. She clearly was trying to make ORBITZ more money. I demanded a supervisor who said she would cancel the tickets and refund the full price, in 7 to 10 days and I could rebook it. Never mind it only took 30 seconds to take the money from my account. Or for just $50 she would ask the airline to change the letter in the name. I had little choice so I paid the $50.

I STRONGLY advise anyone wanting to book flights or anything else GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! The "Customer Service" people do not provide service, just a screwing. If I could have I would have picked negative number of stars!

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! Never again.

As if internationally flying alone as a female isn't enough! Thanks to Orbitz, my traveling experience from Kyrgyzstan to Chicago, IL, USA was much more expensive than it should have been! Apparently Orbitz booked my tickets through the airlines incorrectly, causing me to have an extra baggage fee of $225, on top of the $1500 ticket I have already purchased. I work overseas as a volunteer, so this was an Extremely high cost for me and very much unappreciated.

I had to either pay the fee or leave my bag at an international airport. Upon returning to Kyrgyzstan, I tried get a refund. It took me and my boyfriend calling Orbitz and the airline company several times and being on hold for 15-30 minutes at a time just to get through to a real person to voice my complaint. It was unnecessary trouble all due to Orbitz's negligence. I will never use this company again.

Never Ever Use Orbitz

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA -- I booked a flight and hotel for my birthday to Cabo. At the end of the page, after the charge page, etc - I get a message indicating: "There was a problem booking your reservation. Please try again later." I check my account - charge pending for a flight + hotel for two people + $$$.

I call Orbitz - incompetent representative who did not have any answers, and said nothing was reflected, like no flight or hotel reservations were ever made. Rep said call bank... back and forth, etc. Make the story short, my day is ruined, time is wasted. Now I'm going to have to fix a charge that did not come with a reservation! So don't - DON'T EVER EVER book anything with Orbitz!

Orbitz Steps Up To The Plate

Earlier I have written some reviews regarding Orbitz Travel and Be Live Hamaca in the Dominican. At this point I have to say that Orbitz went to bat for me with the hotel in trying to secure some type of reimbursement for the bad experience that I had with their facility. Unfortunately they stumbled into a roadblock as I experienced in dealing with the management staff face to face.

Orbitz customer service has further reviewed the entire situation and has recently presented me with a substantial settlement in the form of a travel credit to be used towards my next purchase. I admire their attitude in trying to make things right even when they were not the ultimate end supplier. I personally will be giving them my next booking and hope to have additional compliments to post after my next adventure.

No Problems Whatsoever!

I've read a lot of awful reviews on Orbitz, so I was worried, to say the least, when my mom decided to use the service to book our flights to Los Angeles for this past week. We just got back last night and absolutely nothing went wrong at all. We were able to book our seats through AirTran with the use of our confirmation number and print out our boarding passes.

The only glitch that occurred was the error on my mom's part since she had accidentally booked the wrong dates. She called the customer service line and spoke to a representative within a minute of calling who assured my mom that everything would be taken care of. I was very pleased that we had no problems.
