LAFAYETTE, INDIANA -- OK, the complaint I have is not the company itself. It's about the customers! I am a delivery driver myself. I am going to school to be a POLICE OFFICER. The complaints I have read on here are valid. I don't blame SOME of them for being mad. If I mess up I'm the first to say something. I would not want to wait two hours on pizza either.

However, I read that a customer said she order a pizza online (which was stupid. Just call on the phone and you would know the delivery time) and didn't get their food. She said her kids were starving and she didn't have any more money to order somewhere else. Now I don't blame her for being mad but her kids were not starving... The kids in BAGHDAD are starving! (Yes, I was in the army. My M.O.S. is 11 BRAVO.) And if she didn't have any more money then she shouldn't be ordering pizza.

I have had a customer call up and ask do you guys sell pizza? Now if you call a place like Papa John's PIZZA... what the hell do you think we sell? Chicken fried grapefruit and radiators? How dumb are these people? Don't get me wrong. We all do dumb things all the time. Also people need to start putting NUMBERS on their damn houses. The law states your building or house is to be clearly marked so you can see the ADDRESS from the street day or night! What if you have to call 911 and they can't find your house because you are too stupid to put numbers on your house!

In some areas it is a $1500 fine if your house is not marked. Also the delivery driver is NOT to go up to a dark house for security reasons. So if you want your pizza turn a porch light on... If you can't afford to have the light on then you shouldn't be ordering pizza for delivery. Also if you can't afford to tip your driver at least a $1 then you should be ordering pizza for delivery.

Papa John's Awful Customer Service
By -

ARLINGTON, TEXAS -- I have been a big fan of Papa John's pizza until now. This is by far the worst customer service I have received from any food joint. I was visiting a friend in Arlington and we decided to have pizza. I placed an order for a large pizza (jalapeno + pineapple) for delivery with the Papa John's store at 2633 W Park Row Dr, Arlington, TX 76013 (817) 801-7272. The order was placed at 10:07 pm on 05/23/08. The manager Cody said it would take 45 minutes to an hour and I was fine with that.

It's 11:35 and my pizza has not yet arrived. I call Cody to check and she says the ticket printed was illegible and the driver had passed by house but didn't know about it as he couldn't read the address. He had to come back to the store as the pizza had to be redone. She said he had left already and he had only my pizza to be delivered. He should be reaching me at any moment.

The funny thing is the delivery location was a university apartment that is only 2.5 miles from the store. So it should take approximately 7 minutes to reach me. It's 12:00 pm and my pizza has not yet arrived and I'm totally frustrated. I call Cody and ask her about my pizza. It's been 2 hrs since I have placed my order and still haven't received it. I suggest the driver call me if he cannot find my apartment as I could give him directions. She says he doesn't have a cell phone.

She was extremely rude and did NOT even apologize for the delay. All she said was that she could cancel my order, which I refused. I said I wanted to see exactly how long it takes for a pizza to be delivered by Papa John's. The pizza NEVER came.

To summarize; I place an order with Papa John's which I wait for more than 2 hrs but never receive. I receive the worst customer service and the manager is extremely rude. Conclusion: I should switch to Pizza Hut. Thanks Papa John's for ruining my evening and dinner.

Rude Employees and Unprofessional Atmosphere

46774, INDIANA -- For my son's birthday he requested Papa John's. The last handful of times either my husband or I have come home from picking up our pizza (delivery time is a joke), we always have a story about the place. Most times it ranges from either employees acting like they don't understand what you want (to get my pizza!) or just not being polite, saying hello or thank you are basics.

This last time I visited topped the cake. The place was empty except for me, and I was on time or even a little late to get my pizzas which I had ordered online and paid at least 25.00 dollars for. The girl approached me and I smiled and said I had a carry out for Smith. She didn't hear me. Instead of saying, "I'm sorry I didn't hear you." She said "What?", in an irritated exasperated way and even raised her hand palm up and made a little motion when she said it.

I remained pleasant and repeated my name, she told me it would be a minute. I waited 5 minutes. In that five minute time she was very agitated with whatever was going on behind the counter, telling other delivery drivers that so and so was asked to come in to help, and he refused. To which another employee said he was outside having a 'consultation'.

When I exited the store the employee in question was outside the only other door to enter the building, having a verbal disagreement loud enough for customers coming in to hear. When I left two more people went into the store.

This last time was the last straw. I sent an online complaint that was sent to the store operator/owner. Not that I think that will do any good. The people they are hiring lack any skills whatsoever to work with the public, they either are not being trained or are impossible to train.

The pizzas were really good, but that is not going to make up that I feel like I am entering the ghetto every time I visit this Papa John's location.

Papa John's Will Ruin You!
By -

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- I was appalled yesterday when I viewed my credit report and saw a charge for $25 in collections. After researching (calling Security Check), I discovered that it was for a check written in 2003 in TX when visiting. The check was apparently declined for whatever reason, I would not remember, but cleared a second time. So your company apparently charged a $25 check fee, but the check was not returned. It cleared the second time and was paid! I have not had experiences like this but maybe twice in my 42 years, but I would think that a fee would be charged if no money was collected???

The (rude) person at Security Check said that a letter was sent to our PO Box at McChord Air Force Base to notify us of this, but obviously we never received it. We may have been deployed at the time, I honestly wouldn't remember. So 4 YEARS LATER, we have the misfortune of seeing it on our credit report as a collection, which must have recently been added because we check it often. Please tell me, if you could research and locate the information to file a credit discrepancy, why couldn't a more thorough system of contact be made? Or, maybe give the person the benefit of the doubt?

So basically, your company ruined my credit, which caused my home equity to be declined, and all for a stupid $25 fee, and you still got your pizza money. This in my opinion is illegal, or should be. How and why do you feel the need to take advantage of people this way? Is it in your nature to try to get your extra buck any way you can, even if it means hurting them? I have lost absolute and complete respect for your chain and will NEVER purchase from you again. Also, I am going to post this on a consumer complaint system on the internet so that other people will be forewarned about the business practices of your company and how you want to cheat them.

Got 2 wrong pizzas with no apology
By -

ITHACA, NEW YORK -- I had a very unpleasant experience with one of your employees yesterday. Yesterday, I ordered two Works pizzas, and it had toppings like tomatoes and other stuff that I didn't expect to be on. And of course, it tasted different from what I usually had with Works.

Naturally, I thought you guys made a mistake and called the store. Now, when this female employee of yours picked up and I told her that the pizza's different from what I ordered, she said they were originally making veggie pizzas, but then realized these were not supposed to be veggies, so they added works toppings on top of it because they didn't want to do them re-over. AND THEN she said very rudely that we "got a better deal" since it had extra toppings on it and talked as if why are we complaining.

I'm sorry but extra toppings are not what I requested in the first place and this pizza tasted nothing like the works I had before, and I hate tomatoes in the first place (there's a reason when people order different stuff), and what I had expected was a simple apology for making such mistake.

NO! She kept insisting rudely that we got the better deals, and we almost ended up apologizing for calling the store to the manager. You guys need to educate your employees better. If you guys made a mistake making a right pizza, you guys are not supposed to say and rudely insist we "got a better deal" like that making us feel bad for calling.

You guys are supposed to apologize at very least. I'm sorry but even the taste was different. I wouldn't even be writing this in the first place if she wasn't so rude about all this. I have ordered from Papa John's for a long time because my previous experiences with your employees weren't so great... and we only recently re-started ordering, but I'm sorry but your employees are very rude and I haven't had such bad experiences like this with other stores. And I got an automatic reply from Papa John's - this message was sent to the store in question for review and they should be contacting me soon... which hasn't happened.

Horrible Customer Service
By -

WHITEHALL, OHIO -- I have had many problems with the Papa Johns that delivers to my neighborhood but this one takes the cake. I had ordered a pizza not an unusual situation considering we are both FT working parents of a 1 year old and both in college and also undergoing a major bathroom remodel.

I placed my order with a Papa Johns associate who repeated the order back to me. The order shows up late - expected from my local Papa Johns - but when I go to turn in my check for payment tip included due to not having any cash on me and have cancelled all credit cards, only to be informed by the delivery guy with our pizza in hand (mind you haven't eaten all day due to be an incredibly busy person) that he is not able to accept checks (when that is how I have ALWAYS paid them).

Was never informed over the phone. So with the delivery guy outside I call and speak to the Manager Brandon - who tells me there is no way they can accept my check for the pizza nor does he offer any form of apology for me not being advised in the first place that they recently are no longer accepting checks.

So with our pizza outside getting cold my fiance decided to use his debit card when there is not enough funds to cover it due to payday not being until the next day is now going to experience an overdraft fee for a pizza that was late and not to mention for the third time in a row was incorrect. That pizza was not worth 45.00 - and Papa Johns will NEVER receive my business AGAIN!

Now if the manager would have handled that situation properly by apologizing for the miscommunication of his employees and allowing me to pay with the check (as I always have in the past) and had just advised me right then and there for future reference not able to pay with that form again - this situation could have been avoided. I would have even overlooked the fact that it was late and that the order was incorrect because that has already become an expectation for the local Papa Johns.

Now, I will tell all of my friends, family, co-workers of the incredibly HORRIBLE customer service received from them and never contribute to salaries of a manager like that again. I sent in a complaint to the headquarters... Let's see how that goes - from the many reviews I am sure I will never hear back from them!!

Cheese Pizza Not Properly Made
By -

OWINGS MILLS, MARYLAND -- I received very poor service on 9/7/06 from Papa John's location in Owings Mills, MD (410) 902-1000. Large Cheese Pizza was missing most of the cheese. I called the location back and spoke to a Manager by the name of Charlie (Female), who was the same person who rang me up and also forgot to open the boxes to show me what the pizza's looked like, this has always been a normal practice at Papa John's, had this procedure taken place the pizza issue would have been addressed in the very beginning.

I first started the conversation by explaining the problem. While speaking to Manager (Charlie) she was very unprofessional and offensive with the way she spoke to me. When she pulled up my order she stated, "This was an hour ago." As if to say I waited too long to call back. Manager (Charlie) also stated, "I'm sorry if the pizza is not up to your liking." I stated, "No it's not up to Papa John's standards." Then Manager (Charlie) make a very insulting comment, she stated, "We have people who call in with pranks." Throughout this entire ordeal I was treated less than a customer. I took the pizza back to the location after 10 PM to show Manager (Charlie) that it wasn't a prank.

This was a incovenience to me because I had to put clothes back on to come out the house when I was in the process of going to sleep. All I asked in the beginning is to be accommodated for the error on Papa John's behalf, to allow me to be able the get another pizza the next day due to the time of night it was and I expressed to Manager (Charlie) several times that I had to get up early in the morning for work. After all the frustration and me getting upset Manager (Charlie) assured me that she would leave a note for General Manager (Conner **) so I would be able to receive another pizza at another date. This is all I wanted in the first place.

I really don't think Manager (Charlie) should be in Management, her professional and people skills are very poor, she even admitted she handled it wrong and stated, "This is a lesson to be learned." Managers like the one I dealt with at the Owings Mills location is and will make it bad for business!

Staff Does Not Wear Gloves When Preparing Food

ALL OF THEM, FLORIDA -- After ordering pizza online I decided to pick it up at the store and save my self $7 and delivery fees and tip. When I walked in the store a girl came over covered in pizza dough powder to assist me. As I look to my right I noticed another person preparing the pizza dough not wearing gloves. When I mentioned it the cashier she told me they don't ever wear gloves.

Now in South Florida at least 50 percent of the population have some kind of disease or something. I really think people should be wearing gloves when preparing food and I thought it was a state law. Not sure if it's right or not but beware they don't wear gloves. I called customer service and they said that none of them wear gloves.

Why Papa Johns sucks: delivery fees
By -

KENTUCKY -- If you see a Papa John's commercial on television, it tells you the price for a certain product. However, to have a pizza delivered, a two dollar delivery fee is added. Does the driver collect this delivery fee? After all, the driver is being paid to deliver the food, he/she should get all of the delivery fee that is charged to the customer. The truth is, the driver only receives a percentage of this fee, about two thirds based on gas prices, for gas and wear and tear on the vehicle that the driver must provide in order to work. The rest of the delivery fee goes to the company.

This is a double-scam that Papa John's has pulled on their customers and their drivers. Papa John's has also recently used state minimum wage laws to justify a reduction in the hourly wage a driver makes. This might explain why drivers at Papa John's are so easily antagonized. The answer: don't order from Papa John's. Instead, support a business that isn't constantly coming up with ways to nickel and dime their customers.

"OH, MY EYES BURN, GIVE ME SOME DROPS!"
By -

WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA, INDIANA -- Our community orders pizzas for our Sunday school every week. We order about 15 and it costs $150 or so. We ordered from Papa John's because the kids like it and it's close. Today, I picked up the pizzas. They weren't ready yet, so we waited. One of the crew members making the pizza dough stopped frequently to put eye drops in his eyes. Then he would continue to make the dough without gloves. I was shocked. I talked to the manager on duty about it and he was very rude. He said," Who cares? It's just drops in his eyes!!" I was horrified!!

He proceeded to tell the member about my complaint. The crew member had a royal fit and said, very loudly, "Oh, I am sorry my eyes are burning. I will just let them annoy me!!" He then continued to talk loudly, "This is why I hate people. Complain, complain, complain.!! People suck!!" They continued to talk loudly about it and as they boxed the pizzas, they threw them in the box. Not carefully. If I was able to cancel my order, and go somewhere else, I would've. But it was too late, and 80 kids were waiting. They have lost our business. $150/weekly x 4 = $600. Too bad Papa John's!!
