You May or May Not Be Covered for Theft

Just last week someone unlocked our rear storage compartment on our RV and took 2 large tool boxes, essentially every tool we own. We made a police report and we contacted Progressive. They took photos and then asked us to submit a list. In the meantime they were to get coverage information from our particular state. Turns out the tools, and there were a lot of them, came to a current value of around $2,000. We had been paying for $15K in personal effects coverage and thought we'd at least get some sort of settlement.

When Progressive found out the total value they declined the entire claim. They pointed to the term that states there must be "evidence of forcible entry". Since the thief either had the ubiquitous C751 key or knew how to pick the lock, we had no physical damage to the RV door. No evidence so no offer, period. One would think the company would rather have a happy customer by at least making some sort of offer than losing the customer altogether.

So had we actually been dishonest and knocked out the lock on the door after the fact we would have been paid for both the missing tools and the door repair. But the fact that we were honest we got hosed. So a warning to all RV owners, if someone gets into your RV and takes your stuff make sure there are signs of entry. Oh and make sure you change out all those C751 locks.

Progressive Is Definitely Not

An insured of Progressive's got in an auto accident with me. She admitted fault, and Progressive offered to fix my car. I was told if I drop my car off at the mechanic on the Monday after Christmas, chances are the inspector would not show until Tues. I said I would rather wait until the next Monday to ensure that I wouldn't have to leave my car for two days.

An appointment was made for 1/3/11 between the hours of 11-2. No one showed up. The response from the supervisor was that the inspector has 48 hours from the time the appointment was set to complete the task. Huh?! Why have a time window? Why wait a week to get a time window? I'm the victim, and I'm the one getting jerked around and inconvenienced. I feel sorry for anyone that gets stuck dealing with these people!

Ask how Progressive values your vehicle before getting insurance
By -

I hit a deer in Nov 2010 and most of the damage was on the passenger side of the vehicle but no airbags were deployed and I was able to drive away from the scene. Progressive evaluated the vehicle and decided it was a total loss. I had GAP Insurance besides Progressive so I thought I was covered. When it was all said and done, there was a difference of almost $1,600 on the vehicle that I am responsible for paying.

GAP valued my car using blue book value and Progressive valued it based on "market research". GAP would not pay out the full value cause they believed Progressive undervalued the vehicles worth. In my opinion this is subjective and you can find whatever evidence you need to justify a lower value on a vehicle rather than using the industry standard NADA values.

I called Progressive and they said the payment was already made so wouldn't be able to reevaluate. It went up to a manager and I was supposed to hear back that day and never received any call back. So what I have learned from the experience is to ask how insurance companies value a vehicle cause it could end up costing you thousands in the difference.

Don't Buy Progressive

I have had Progressive Insurance for 6 months. Just this week was in a minor fender bender, other car fine mine had minor damage. Called into 800 number and gave description of event. Was called next day and gave another recorded rendition and then told at the end that I didn't have collision! Nowhere on my policy did it say that coverage wasn't included until I got to the declaration page (which was never provided when I signed up) and there was everything BUT collision! I am sure that online I signed up for it, as I was copying my coverage from my previous insurance company Allstate. I will be initiating a policy with them again and NEVER AGAIN WILL I HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH PROGRESSIVE!!!

Appalling Service

My son was hit by a 2009 Jaguar insured by Progressive. But it gets better - the guy was DWI and ended up arrested. My son's car was his dream car of only two months. He saved forever for it and now it is totaled. To replace the car would take around $9,000. We've looked for comparable cars on many websites and that's the going rate. Progressive repeatedly refuses to talk to me, the holder of the policy, preferring to harass my 21-year-old son whose car is now totaled. They gave him a rental for four days, I guess to try to force him to accept the offer.

They do not call back promptly, they do not return calls on a timely basis and now there is the very real possibility that my son will lose his job because he cannot get to work and he cannot afford to buy a new car. It would seem since it was THEIR client who was DRUNK at 6:30 in the evening and driving in north Dallas that hit not one but TWO CARS, that Progressive should just cough up the money. This is why people hire lawyers and why lawyers get rich.

Progressive Auto Insurance Is A Scam
By -

I got Progressive Auto Insurance on August 30, 2010. My account had my parents and myself listed. On September 24,2010 I took my parents off my policy. But since they had paid until September 30, I thought they were covered. They went through another company for insurance. They started their new policy on September 30, 2010. Progressive said that since they didn't have coverage from another company on September 24, 2010 they were suspending my dad's license. We all feel that they should have been on the policy until September 30, 2010. They were paid until that date. DON'T GO THROUGH PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE. THEY SCAM YOU.

Progressive Blackmail

I set up a policy with Progressive due to their low rates. I paid by the 6 months. On December 14 I called because I received a bill for $50 after I had paid in full for the 6 months. I was told that I did not sign a form that was sent to my email. I explained to the person that I never got the form and did not know anything about it. He told me nothing could be done and I told him I wanted to cancel my policy but I would call back in a bit to do so because I was short on time. About 4 hours later after dropping my wife off at work I called back and spoke to someone different and explained the situation. I was told that they did not want me to cancel the policy and it would be fixed.

This morning I got a call from Progressive stating my policy was canceled for non payment. I talked to the person on the phone and they say they can't find any information that I called back. I think Progressive is involved with a scam to show low rates and then increase their profit during the first 6 months. Now because of Progressive's dishonesty my license will be suspended. I have never had any infractions and no points on my license. Now due to their negligence I will lose my license. The lady on the phone told me that she could make it look right so I did not lose my license if I paid her $70. This sounds like blackmail.

High Premium Hike

Progressive just raised our insurance by $815 for 6 months for 4 vehicles because we moved and started renting instead of buying a home. This is after we lowered all our limits and raised deductibles. I know they were not giving us that as a discount for living in a rural area and buying our home before, it is purely a ripoff. What does my buying or renting or even my credit have to do with my driving?

My agent brought up some bogus information that the people who lived in this house before were terrible drivers, are they using that against me too? Seems like they will do anything to rip you off. We have been with them for 10 years filed 2 small claims over 4 years ago and this is how we are thanked! Is should be illegal for them to have any other information other than driving history or accidents to rate you for insurance.

Progressive vs. the Innocent Pregnant Lady and Her Unborn Child
By -

At 6 months pregnant I was t-boned by a lady with Progressive car insurance. They immediately recognized her being at fault and they did give me a check for my car since it was TOTALED. However, the wreck caused me to start having contractions, bleeding, and shortened cervix. I was on strict bedrest for 3 months, on heavy drugs 24/7 to stop the labor, visit to the high-risk Dr. on a weekly basis AND was in the hospital twice. After having a claims agent talking with me for 9 months during the bed rest and after the baby was born they immediately switched me to another agent once we submitted our medical claim!

Progressive has said that since you can't prove the wreck caused it (I guess before being fine and after being in labor doesn't count) they are refusing to cover the mess their client caused in my life. We are probably going to be forced to file a civil lawsuit against the other driver! She wasted every dime on paying premiums to Progressive who is doing everything they can to screw the little innocent people.

Don't make the same mistake she did and get sucked in by the pretty ads. Progressive is just a money making machine that does nothing to protect their customers in the event of an accident. We should not have to be forced to sue the driver when she has insurance. I would be ashamed to be an employee of Progressive.

Don't get caught in the middle

CUMMING, GEORGIA -- Please read this and avoid the hassle and the poor service of Progressive Auto Insurance. I just canceled my coverage with Progressive due to a two month waste of time and money all to find out that even though I was NOT at fault, I would be footing the bill for repairs to both the front and rear end of my vehicle caused by the 4-minute Car Wash in Cumming, GA on Hwy 20 (don't go there unless you want the same to happen to your vehicle). The person's car in front of mine went off the rail... my car was forced into hers causing front end damage. Then the vehicle behind mine was forced into the rear end of my car causing more damage to the rear of my car...

Neither driver's insurance company would claim responsibility (shocker!) and neither would State Farm (the car wash company's insurance provider... again SHOCKER!). So, Progressive finally calls me after 3 months time to tell me that I was responsible because they couldn't find anyone else who would claim responsibility... and instead of using the hundreds and hundreds of dollars that I had given them over the years to help me out and retain a good customer, they basically said... "you're screwed" and good luck with all of that!

Well, they are no longer my auto insurance provider and I would strongly recommend that you reconsider, regardless of rates, letting them be your provider as the rate is only a bargain if they actually plan on providing coverage for you when you need it... Progressive does not.
