Fraudulent billing

ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA -- RCN increased their rates and now requires all customers to have a converter box. The mount our TV is on has no room for a converter box. I sent the converter box back, but I am getting charged $4 per month for a converter box I don't have. FCC isn't requiring converter boxes until February 2009, but RCN is forcing customers to switch early so that they can charge their customers more.

I complained and customer service was non-responsive. They refused to remove the charges from the bill. Same response from supervisors. They also don't care about losing our business to another service provider. I am definitely looking into other service.

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- I switched from Comcast to RCN due to unreliable service from Comcast, believing the grass would be greener. Big mistake. RCN's cable service is horribly unreliable. In just over two months since switching, it has completely cut out twice, each time requiring at least an hour on the phone to support, following by a five day wait for an engineer. It cut out again yesterday, and I've been told I have to wait another five days for an engineer.

Fed up with paying for such a terrible service, I asked to be put through to the cancellation department - they happily canceled my service, not interested at all in why I was canceling. They are obviously not concerned in the slightest about customer churn. They even had the nerve to say they would charge me for picking up their equipment. Abysmal service, abysmal customer service. Avoid at all costs.

BRIGHTON, MASSACHUSETTS -- A man came to my home from RCN selling service. He told me I would have a $20 discount for 12 months if I purchased cable and internet together -- there was a promotion. I signed a document to that effect called into a customer service center to verify the price and that I wanted to sign up. It has been 3 months and many calls to the billing service center and my bill is still not correct. Even after many assurances that a "manager" was looking into it -- B.S. There is no discount. I can just assume they outright lied to me. I'm switching back to Comcast.

RCN is the WORST cable/phone/internet provider

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- Please do not be fooled by RCN's promotional deals and promises of better service. I signed up for a bundled package for cable/phone and internet at a reduced price for 6 months. We had problems from the beginning as the installation man missed his scheduled date for installation. In addition to deplorable service, we did not receive an accurate bill in the mail for 4 months. The cable was in and out all the time even ABC and NBC were fuzzy! Our wireless internet almost never had a signal.

To top it all off, cancelling service is nearly impossible. I am convinced they really want to make my life a living hell. I have now wasted 4 days at work waiting on hold at their 800 number-the only number where you can apparently cancel service. I have waited longer than 30 minutes at a time to speak with someone. I have sent an email to the address they specify, reserved only for cancellations and the response was that I needed to call the 800 number! What a joke! Please, please, please, I beg you to not use RCN. If you have it already, just look into other providers. I guarantee that even if you do not have problems with them now, you will eventually.

12.95 for name change

MASSACHUSETTS -- RCN wants to charge me $12.95 to change my name on the account. I expected to pay for my driver's license and passport when my name changed. After all, those are new official documents that have to be created. But this is literally a data entry task. I haven't run into ANY other charges with banks, credit cards, or utilities. This is outrageous.

Rcn's Executive Complaint Dept

I too am sick and tired of RCN, and after some digging online, I found this number for their Herndon VA headquarters. When you call it, they can direct you to the Executive Complaint Dept. I called after hours (different time zone) and left a message. I don't know if this will get any resolution, but it gets me past their English as a second language customer service jerks. We got RCN and we are very happy with the service. I was worry about it because the reviews are terrible but you really need to try it to see the true. Anyway the picture, it's awesome and they have more HD channels. Internet, it's a blast. Thanks RCN :)

Very Poor Customer Service

My cable TV box only lists 12 hours of programming where it used to list 24 hours. I have called and called all they do is send a signal which doesn't work or send out a tech who claims the problem is in Pa and makes a call. It has been fixed twice and then just disappeared. I have exhausted my options any help would be appreciated.

Terrible Salesperson

ELMHURST, NEW YORK -- Please be careful if you deal with them. Try call them couple time cause from one salesperson to another has different price. If you have choice don't even think to use their service. And their billing system the worse ever. These are my case, last year I move to new apt. and first call they charge me $50, second call not the same person said $35, third call the person said not charge for change of service to new address.
