Rooms to Go = Horrible

HORRIBLE!!! My boyfriend and I ordered from Rooms To Go, we're both very young and wanted a way to build credit. Rooms To Go is a huge mistake. Not only did our salesperson tells us ANYTHING to get his commission but the quality is horrible, he exaggerated about almost every point. The cushions are sewed on for a reason, the wood table scratched with every touch, and no animal can be on it (even our fully declawed cat could make a scratch).

Our original order never get delivered, after I called enough and complained enough (talking to the president assistant - Michelle **) they let us re-select, our new order was wrong, which meant we had to call and complain some more to even get the right order. This is after 6 months of hassle and complaint. I will not only NEVER return (because of horrible quality, & horrible customer service), but will adamantly never recommend Rooms To Go to anyone.

Michelle came to our home (a two-hour drive) and told us she was so sorry and said she'd be there the day the new order came. When the new (wrong) order came she was not only not at our home but we couldn't reach her. After three weeks she still has not called us back. I recognize large companies have many people to please but after spending over $5,000 and talking to the president's assistant we figured she'd keep her word, or at least call us back.

Rooms to Go is horrible quality and the warranties have so many hidden catches, it's not worth anyone's time. I hate to say it, after 6 months and so much emotion and money, Rooms To Go has to be one of the worst places to buy furniture. A woman from Ashley helped us fixed our problem, we never made a purchase from Ashley (and she knew that from the beginning - after all we'd just spend most our money). She felt so bad for us she helped us find the best quality re-select we could. Horrible experience. :(

Delivery Services - horror story

PINEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA -- My husband passed this past October, 2009. Both of us have battled our own cancers and he lost his battle. My husband and I have wanted to get a new bedroom suite for years and obviously we did not get to share the experience of this purchase. The sales person was very nice and personable. I fell in love with the room I chose. I was in process of moving and purchasing a new home. They agreed to deliver after the closing date. After arriving to my new home, my son informs me there is damage to the furniture. Manager volunteered that the delivery 'must have come from the bad warehouse'. That eliminated any trust.

The headboard, damaged. The foot board, damaged. The dresser, damaged. Hardware was not reversed. The mirror, hung incorrectly. Two lamps did not arrive. The corner of one wall chipped. I called the store, was referred to customer service. Customer service referred me back to the store. After 2 days, I finally was able to schedule a pick-up refund.

The store did ask if they could give it another shot at making things right. I decided to go back to the store. I decided this set was 'jinxed' and wanted a differ set. Could not find what I would want. Decided to get full refund. Was told the earliest would be on Saturday 2/13/2010 between 8am and 10pm.

Apparently, my son received a phone call asking to reschedule the pick-up. When he refused, the driver told him they be at the house by 4:00 and if he would dismantle the bed for them. They arrived after 5:30. Left the door open while my son went to the bathroom, letting my dog & cats out in a new neighborhood. They chipped the corner of one of my walls and left behind screws and a portion of the broken footboard.

Now, I am sleeping on a mattress from my son's old set and still living out of boxes for my clothes. My final advice...avoid Rooms 2 Go. Sales floor is wonderful, the behind the scenes needs a complete makeover.
Never once did they offer additional discount for my time and trouble. I spent 2,653. I was told the 32' HD television did not qualify. With all the illnesses and loss, my husband and I kept putting off getting a new bedroom set. This incident truly saddens me.

Horrible Customer Service

FRISCO, TEXAS -- We purchased a mattress at Rooms To Go in Frisco, Texas and were told that we had 30 days try the mattress out and see if we liked it. We chose one specifically because it was soft, but when it was delivered, it felt completely different than the one on the showroom floor. It was as hard as a rock. We went back to the store and talked to the manager about exchanging for a softer mattress. The manager just told us to go home and "walk around on it." We explained to him that we were not happy with it and wanted to find out what our options were. Unfortunately, he continually cut us off and basically told us that we didn't understand how mattresses work.

He would not listen to anything we had to say, and kept giving the same speech about how he would lose money if he took the mattress back. He was very condescending, and most of the time would not even look up from the papers he had in his hand. He treated us like we were stupid. When we tried to explain that we were told that we had 30 days, he didn't believe us at all, and said that he was sure that even if the salesman told us that, he would have also told us that it is up to the manager's discretion and would have brought the manager to see us.

The part he was "sure was said" never was. We are extremely upset and disappointed with Rooms To Go, especially its complete lack of customer service. We will never shop at their store again, and caution others about doing so. If you do, be ready to accept whatever problems you end up having, because they are not willing to help resolve them.

Poor Quality, Poor Customer Service, Bad Business Practices

SPRING, TEXAS -- I have experienced the worse problems with this company. I purchased an entertainment center and a dresser from them about six weeks ago. The entertainment center was delivered first. It had scratches all over it for which the delivery drivers tried to hide by using a scratch cover up. I have seen cover up used in the past and it works fine on small scratches, not gouges!

One of the drawers in the unit was visibly damaged and leaning over. The rubber strip that held the glass doors in was put in so haphazardly, it could be seen from the outside of the doors. They replaced the unit and it is not much better than the last one. The finish is much darker and there are more gouges. One of the doors is warped. They stated they would send another door by UPS.

When my dresser finally arrived, about four or five weeks after my order, it was worse. The first thing I noticed is that the hardware for the drawers was put on backward (the pulls were inside the drawers), although not a big deal, they should have fixed them upon delivery. This item also had scratches, some they did not even try to cover up. The space between the drawers and the frame of the dresser was so large, I could see all the way down to my carpet. It was poorly constructed and not of the same quality as the one on their showroom floor.

Seems to be their practice as I have read the same complaint from others. I called their customer service center and requested that the item be returned. I was told returns were not allowed and that they would only issue me a store credit. Their receipt states nothing about no returns, nor is that policy posted in their stores. I am disputing the charge with my credit card company and will hopefully be successful in getting my money back. Be wary when making a purchase from Rooms to Go. Ask about their return policy if you are not satisfied. I wish I had done my research before I shopped there. I will not be back and am warning everyone I know.

Update: I did receive a full refund, minus shipping, by filing a dispute with my credit card company. However, once I received a copy of the paperwork that Rooms to Go sent in to my credit card company, I found they had forged my signature, not once, but twice. I will never deal with this company again and I have warned everyone I know - DO NOT BUY FROM ROOMS TO GO!!!

Brand New Sectional Sofa - Warranty Not Honored
By -

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA -- My new fabric sectional arrived 29 March. Today it is June 14 of same year so I have only had it 2 1/2 months. I noticed whitish marks appearing on it. I inspected it more carefully to discover these odd shaped marks were pretty much all over. They are even in areas protected by pillows and behind cushions even on sides and on the back of the sofa against the wall.

I live alone and the sofa does not get heavy use. I thought that it was odd to see those marks which were obviously not food or drink. There was no accident nor abuse of any kind. The technician came and indicated that he was also baffled so I figured Rooms to Go would honor the warranty. But no! I received a call yesterday telling me that the protection I purchased only covered food and drink and they suggested I get this new sofa professionally cleaned. The Tech said it looked like drool.

I have a small older dog that cannot jump on a sofa nor do I put the dog on the sofa. I have several sofas and none have any drool marks. Drool would also be crusty and would not appear on the back of the sofa against the wall. There was no apology nor offer to replace. The marks are not anything that can be cleaned off... They are within the fabric which is obviously faulty. I would think Rooms to Go would honor their 1 year warranty. I have another RTG sofa which is fine.

This one is poor quality (made in China I noticed). When I mentioned that I had purchased the "protection" I was told that the protection is just for food and drink spots...not drool. But I know it isn't drool either! So how about the warranty against defective materials! Now what do I do after just purchasing it... It was $1600 and fits perfectly but the fabric is very bad! I am afraid of how it will look in another month or a year! This is the 3rd sofa I have purchased from RTG. Have not had previous problems with RTG so I am very disappointed.

ARLINGTON, TEXAS -- Bought a mattress from Rooms to Go. Don't do it!! It's been a nightmare! Slept on it for 2 nights. Very uncomfortable my hips and back hurt! Called customer service wanting to exchange it. Very, Very rude customer service employee told me they have a "NO RETURN Policy" and I was "stuck with the $1300 purchase". She claimed it was all in the paperwork which I read and never found!! The store saleswoman claimed she was told not to tell the customer about this fact unless specifically asked!

The store FINALLY did make good and replaced the mattress after making me keep it for 2 weeks and then incredibly delivering a wrong second mattress! Finally a month after purchase (and $152 more delivery fee) the right mattress was delivered and I'm sleeping well but I will not never again shop at Rooms to Go! Sad because I've been a very long term customer!

Don't Buy Furniture From Rooms to Go!!!

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA -- I bought a leather living room set from ROOMS TO GO about 2 years ago and now the leather is cracking. I also purchased a protection plan when I purchased the set so that if anything happens it would be taken care of. So, I called to get my leather set repaired, but they said that my protection plan was only for spills. I can't believe I wasted over $160 for a protection plan that could never be used.

I also purchased a dining room set a couple of months after I purchased the leather living room set and now the chair's wood is wobbly. I barely use my dining room, so how can something that's barely being used break down this quickly?? Please DO NOT buy a thing from this company, because you are not getting your money's worth!!! Room TO Go are crooks and they charge way over price for poor quality furniture!!!

AUGUSTA, GEORGIA -- I purchased a new bedroom suite from Rooms To Go that was in their ad booklet and asked for a delivery for June the 5 which was 17 days after the purchase. The issues that I have is they are telling me that they couldn't deliver the bed until June the 21st which is more than 5 weeks after the day of purchase. How can you print a ad booklet stating that you have next day delivery with this bedroom suite in it saying that they have next day delivery? I gave them 17 days to deliver that bed! I have a big issue with Rooms To Go and will never purchase anything from this company ever again. I will make sure I tell anyone not to purchase from them also.

AUGUSTA, GEORGIA -- Our nightmare with RTG began Nov. 2010. We ordered a leather couch and love seat. About 4 months later we noticed faded streaks in both pieces. Of course you have to call the 1-800 call center, I call them 1-800 idiots, to have a tech come examine the furniture. The tech comes and says they have this fading occur on this furniture all the time. I wanted to choose a different furniture and RTG said no I could get same kind again. Well I did.

Two months later the "new" set begins to fade. I called the 1-800 idiots and they sent the techs again and the techs said the same thing about the fading. Well I still don't want my furniture replaced. I only want them to pick up furniture and just let me be finished with RTG. They said I could replace it with another kind of furniture. Well we choose more sorry furniture.

On this third set of furniture the frame was bent on the recliner and because the front legs on the love seat were too far back it would tip forward throwing you out of the seat. The 1-800 idiots said we were not sitting on it properly. Well I begged the local RTG people to please take furniture back. I just want to be finished with them. It's like they continue to punish you for making the mistake of buying their sorry furniture. I am now on my fourth set set of furniture. I hate the day I ever set foot in RTG. I want everyone to know how awful the furniture and service is. It's a shame you have a LEMON LAW on a vehicle but you don't have one on furniture.

Bar in Sleeper Sofa Causes Back Pain
By -

PANAMA CITY, FLORIDA -- My wife and I bought $4,000 worth of furniture from Rooms to Go a year or so ago. A few weeks ago we went to their store in Panama City, Florida to purchase a Cindy Crawford Sleeper sofa for our condo. It was delivered and when we tried it out for a few minutes the bar caused my back to hurt for two days. We had tried the sofa on a showroom floor and it was comfortable. We also purchased a $150 mattress upgrade (Posturepedic).

I contacted the customer service number and a tech (what a joke) was sent to our condo. He told us that he didn't know anything about sleeper sofas, but that he could feel the stiffness in the mattress. He told us that buying the upgraded mattress probably added to the problem. He also said if we ordered a hundred of these they would all be the same.

The next day Patty with Rooms to Go called to tell us that the technician found no problem with our sleeper sofa. As a matter of principle I will not let this go. The technician and the woman who called back the next day were poor representatives of this company. I know for a fact that there have been similar complaints concerning the uncomfortable bar under the mattress.
