Worst Company

VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA -- I can't believe anyone has a positive review of this company. Are they reviewing the same one as me? In May 2017, we signed up with HughesNet when we lived on the Eastern Shore of VA. The service was awful and constantly buffered. Couldn't stream a movie. When we moved to Virginia Beach in January 2018, we called HughesNet and said we wanted to cancel because we were moving and dissatisfied with the service. Who has $400? They said it would be this stiff penalty to break the 24 month contract.

So we continued service at our new address. But in January they forced us to restart THE 24 MONTH CONTRACT all because we were moving (we were still keeping the service). Their business model is keeping people in contracts against their will because people want to quit the service once they have it. I was on the phone arguing with nasty customer service people for three hours last night.

They said they don't hang up on people, but their supervisor did hang up on my son last night when he was trying to negotiate with her. They refused to keep the original May 2017 start date for our contract - we are still stuck with the January 2018 start date. I honestly say the worst company ever, and I've dealt with a lot of bad companies in my years.

USA, NEW YORK -- When I signed up for Hughes Net I asked the salesman 2 simple question. Will this internet stream videos and will there be any contact commitment. The answer I got is yes I will work just fine streaming movies you have 10gb that will be fast and then after that internet will begin to slow down but still be able to stream. I have called into customer service 8 times now on an average of 1.3 hours per time. Getting absolutely nowhere. Then I got frustrated and asked then to cancel my services. They said it would cost me $400. Ummm really why is that? Ooo I got it no salesman lied again. So now I am stuck with absolutely slow internet that they can't fix and I have been more then lenient with. Ooo an advice don't let them talk you into anything it's not going to work!

DON'T DO IT!! HORRIBLE SERVICE!!

77469, TEXAS -- I wouldn't recommend this service to my worst enemy! If I could give 0 starts I would. I live out in a rural area and I was told this would absolutely work for me since I have to bring work home I needed access to the internet. I had high hopes with everything they promised me. WRONG! The pages take about 10 minutes or so to load if they even decide to load. I have to constantly exit and reopen the 1 page I have open. Even now I am sure this will take about 30 minutes to submit. Also, the "sales person" I spoke to guaranteed me 30 days or my money back but she did warn me it would be $400 to cancel if I decided to stay and would be locked in to a 24 month contract. I said great I will give it a try and see how it goes. Well turns out after speaking to the cancellation dept. they don't even offer a "30 day money back". My fault. I should have looked into it more but I was honestly excited to have my internet back. (moved back to my hometown from the city) So less than 2 weeks later and I am having to fork over $400 to cancel. Which honestly that makes tons of sense now. The service charges a big cancellation fee because they know people will either be forced to stay or pay the whopping $400 to cancel. It's a Win win situation either way. PLEASE TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSE WHERE. I promise you will regret it.

Way Better Than Exede

CENTERTOWN, MISSOURI -- We live in a rural area where satellite internet is pretty much the only option unless you want 1.5 mbps from Centurylink. We had Exede for 3+ years and they never delivered the 12 mbps I was paying for in my plan. When I would call in, I would be subjected to long sessions with tech support only to be told there was a lot of traffic in my area which was causing the slow speed. It was often so bad my computer would say I there was no internet available.

I reluctantly decided to switch to Hughesnet to see if it was any better. The difference is like night and day. With Exede, I was promised 12 mbps and I usually got 3-4. With Hughesnet, I was promised 25 mbps and I usually get that much or more. Last time I checked, I was getting 43 mbps. The prices are similar, but Exede overpromises and underdelivers while Hughesnet has been just the opposite. The installer was on time and efficient and my service has been flawless for the first month.

REDDING, CALIFORNIA -- I needed phone and internet service. I was told they can provide me with both using the phones we have iPhone 6plus. Their service never worked right. Called a number of times to see what was happening. Found out usage was off the chart. We don't play online games. Facebook, surf the net is pretty much it. They wouldn't check the system just told me we used it all 15 Gb in 2 hours. They said he had to buy a phone to get wifi phone calling. When I called them they said I could upgrade. I canceled. This wasn't what I was told how any of it would work. Now they are charging me 750+$ for a system that doesn't perform the way they said it would work. Going to contact the utilities commission and lodge a complaint

Hughes Net Worst Internet Provider I Have Ever Experienced

ELKHORN, WISCONSIN -- HUGHES NET WORST INTERNET PROVIDER I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I moved to Elkhorn WI area and there were only two choices for internet providers... I MADE THE WRONG CHOICE!!! I have been stuck with HughesNet for four months, the first three months I would lose service every week to every other week. Even after I would reset the router with no success, I would have to spend 45 min to hour on the phone with some tech support which in most cases “waved their magic wand” and my service would return immediately. On more than one occasion the tech even admitted the problem was on their end and they saw the problem. Yet this reoccurred for three to four months.

When the service did actually work, I had a contract for 30mbps the speed nine of ten times was below 10mbps with an upload of one to two. Most movies would spool, others would almost make it through before the service shut down the movie stopped, constant errors that the download speed was too slow to play the movie continuously. After over ten phone calls to their tech line with issues I made the decision to drop them. But, they required me to pay out my full contract, yet they could not uphold their end of the contract!!! So, if you overpay a lot for no service and be locked in garbage customer service HughesNet is your company!!! Worthless.

Complete and Utter Garbage ... Don't Waste Your Money

I recently moved into a rural area and found out that we had only two options for internet service. Dial-up or Satellite. Keep in mind that me and my wife moved from an area where we had cable and both of us are hardcore gamers that do video streaming as well. I also take online college course with online labs. If that sounds like you, stay away from Hughesnet or any satellite internet. If I had any choice besides them, I would drop them in a heartbeat. Hell, I would take DSL over satellite.

They say their service is comparable to cable with fast download speeds. Yeah, I paid $80 a month for 50Mbps download speed with no data cap. Now I am paying $130 a month for half the speed and a 50Gb cap for the month. Oh sure they give you an extra 50Gb of data if you want to download large files but you have to do it between 2am and 8am. If you go over, they won't cut you off but they will drop your transfer speed to 1Mbps.

Let's not forget that since it's satellite, it has an inherent lag of 500to 600ms. Even playing MMO's is touch and go. If you want to stream videos, be ready for major buffering and using up your data in a few movies. The satellite internet providers know they have people in the rural areas that have no other choice so they can charge double the price for half the service.

Billing and Installation of Dish

VALLEY HEAD, ALABAMA -- I ask them for the cheap plan. Was billed for a year at mid rate. Only wanted a 12-month plan as I was not going to be living in area for 2 years. So I had to pay penalty, fee goes up every time you call and ask questions. They could not spell my name correct or mail return box for equipment to correct a address. I told them to NOT charge the credit card on file. I would mail a check.

WELL today I find out they billed me and charged my credit card. NOW they want double payment. The credit card was in process of being closed. They don't care!!! In a small county town this is all I could get. Will do without if I move to that area again. Then they wanted to ask my condo assoc. if they could put up a dish here to complete by contract. HAHA.

Hughesnet Has A Monopoly On An Unsuspecting Rural Community!

ROSEBURG, OREGON -- I signed up for HughesNet because I live out in the country, and couldn't get any other service. WOW, do they have a monopoly on internet service for people who have no other choice! First of all, their Internet is really slow. Secondly, once you hit your data cap, you have to buy their tokens (which are ridiculously overpriced) to be able to watch any On Demand or Netflix movie. Thirdly, if you want their fastest internet, (and the most mbps) they charge an outrageous price! What a freaking ripoff!

So, I called a different internet company, and they told me that they were going to run fiber optics out where I live in late Summer. I couldn't join fast enough! Well, they were a couple of months ahead of schedule. Thank God! I couldn't cancel HughesNet fast enough. When I called to cancel, they told me that I would have to wait for the end of my billing cycle. How ridiculous is that? No prorated billing. Just pay for the whole month. I would not recommend this internet company to anyone if my life depended on it. Not even my worst enemy!

MD -- First, if you report them to the Better Business Bureau, you will get a notice that "due to the high volume of complaints against this company" only 1 in 20 complaints will be addressed. Does that tell you anything? Yeah, I was a dumbass and didn't research. My take, I would rather have NO INTERNET service for free, than have NO INTERNET service and pay $70 per month for nothing. Give it a try, call ** and see if anyone from customer support wants to help you with your 1989 modem speed! Fraud, plain and simple, do your research.

I have an active BBB complaint and I have contacted my Florida 1st District Congressman. Furthermore, I WILL NOT pay another cent for NO SERVICE. Come get this crap out of my house and yard, then try and collect from me. I could care less. You get from me what I got from you, NOTHING!!!
