Beware of Macy's Credit Cards!
By -

I rarely use my Macy's credit card, but there was a special discount over Christmas, so I charged $150. The bill was due on January 1st. I was out of town and sent in a payment on January 4th. THE MINIMUM DUE WAS $6.
That same day I started to receive phone calls from an Ohio area number. I looked up the number on the Internet, and it is their collection service. I called the number after 9 in the evening, and the recorded message is "the office is closed."

There were 4 phone calls on the 4th, and 4 phone calls on the 5th between 9 in the morning and 8 in the evening. I expect there will be 4 more today if they haven't received my check. 12 phone calls for $6 due after 3 days? I think it is harassment, and I will never use my Macy's card again. I am also going to spread the word about their tactics.

Macy's Worry-No-More Plan Misrepresented by Sales Rep
By -

We purchased a new fabric sofa and chair from Macy's. The customer service representative explained the Worry-No-More plan to us, which sounded like a good deal in case we spilled food or wine on the furniture. She basically said that any stain would be covered, which I now know IS NOT TRUE. Her misrepresentation of the warranty is what gets me. Of course, the first stain on the furniture was a skin cream. I submitted a claim right away. Worry-No-More did not get back to us within 3 business days. I had to call. We then received an email saying the claim was denied because the source of the stain is not covered under the warranty.

Do I think their warranty sucks? Yes. Do I think it's designed for them to be able to deny as many claims as possible? Yes. Do I think I should have read their information of what is/what is not covered more carefully? Yes. Do I think the Macy's sales representative misrepresented the coverage? YES. In short, if you decide the buy the coverage, WORD YOUR CLAIMS VERY CAREFULLY. Perhaps the skin cream that got on our chair cushion should have been labeled as a "facial cosmetic."

Macys - 2 Days Late - 13 Collection Calls In 4 Days
By -

Received a collection call for $47 payment that was not even two days late. Informed caller would go into store within 7 days and pay on account, well over the next four days I received 13, yes that's THIRTEEN follow up phone calls. Even rec'd 2 more calls 6 hours after paying $200 of a $350 balance.

Macy's should be ashamed to have their name associated with this type of aggressive and offensive collection tactics especially when they "beg" you to open an account while attempting to pay with cash, AMX, VISA or anything but a Macy's card. I normally pay at the store and my mother was in the hospital with pneumonia - I am sickened at what has occurred over the past four days and have obviously CLOSED the account once and for all. Nordstrom's here I come!!!!

TOPEKA, KANSAS -- I went to Macy's at West Ridge Mall this weekend. Looking for a gift for my boyfriend for his Birthday. I went to Macy's and they had a sale going on. I went to the checkout stand and a lady by the name of Zina was the one that was checking me out. She asked me if I was interested in applying for a Macy's card and I told her no. She informed me of the savings that I could receive so I said OK. I save 30% off my purchase. I was pretty excited! I shop at Macy's a lot but always refrained from getting a credit card. Zina was very good at informing me of the savings that I would receive. She was very pleasant and very kind. Thank You.

Macy's Day Parade, New York City
By -

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- I think it's disgusting and prejudice that at the end of the Thanksgiving Day Parade, Santa said, "Ho Ho Ho, Happy Thanksgiving!" I have been watching that parade for 42 years. SANTA SAYS, "MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!" For my whole life, Santa says, "Merry Christmas!!! My children watch the parade and I think it's terrible that Santa, for whatever reasons, was not allowed to say "Merry Christmas!" I wouldn't have caught it unless I heard the replay on AM radio.

How discriminatory! I'm tired of every business being careful not to offend everyone else except CATHOLICS/CHRISTIANS!!! IT'S GOT TO STOP! IT'S CHRISTMAS! No one should apologize for it being Christmas or be afraid to say it! Next year, I would hope you would reconsider all the children watching that show and waiting for Santa to wish everyone, a "Merry Christmas"! I will not buy one gift from Macy's. Not one!

Birthday Gift for Teens
By -

WALLA WALLA (DOWNTOWN, WASHINGTON -- On Oct 30, 2009, I was in Macy's shopping for two young teen granddaughters' birthday gifts in my town of Walla Walla, WA. I was many days late in getting gifts as I had been traveling out of country. I was stressed because of this and the sales representative in the teen department, Mary, was very kind and patient in assisting me in picking out gifts for both girls that would fit their size and very red hair. Without her help I would have spent a lot of time spinning my wheels looking and stressing.

Mary took the worry out of the shopping dilemma and we found just the right items. She deserves a bonus for making this experience very one for me and for understanding just what would look good on them from the description I gave. She demonstrated high level of professionalism and confidence and is an asset to the Walla Walla Macy's organization. I hope to see her again for assistance in the near future.

Macy's Strange Way of Rewarding Customers for Having a Credit Card Account
By -

CALIFORNIA -- My wife and I have had Macy's credit cards for approximately 20 years. My wife recently had a Macy's card lost or stolen, we do not know which one. She reported it before anything was charged on it. They rewarded us for being honest and reporting this as soon as possible by putting negative information on our credit report. We have never had a late payment and have 800 FICO scores out of 830. Because of reporting the one card lost or stolen and their negative info, they cost my wife 10 points on her credit score and now I was just notified of the same to my credit report.

I would suggest that people boycott Macy's department store, at the least now you know if you did not already. Have a card lost or stolen and Macy's will post negative info on your credit report. It is time consumers band together and boycott Macy's, cut your cards up and send them back. This practice is wrong, and should be stopped. Boycott Macy's, Boycott Macy's, Boycott Macy's. Make them pay for treating consumers this way.

To clarify, my wife's credit report went down approx. 10 points because of Macy's. I know this because it is the only possible negative information on either of our credit reports through credit expert, (Experian) if anyone would like me to prove this I would be more than happy to. It says on credit report possible negative info. Lost or stolen credit card. And now it is showing up on my account today. My wife is the primary and I did not lose my card. We have had a 0 balance for quite some time.

Coupons - False Advertising
By -

DULLES, VIRGINIA -- Macy's numerous coupons over the holiday season amount to false advertising. I had a coupon for $10 off a $25 purchase. When I got to the register with my $40 purchase, the coupon was not honored. There are so many fine print exclusions that the coupon ends up being worthless. Two customers in front of me were also had purchases that did not qualify for the coupons.

One woman had coupons from the internet and from the newspaper. Not one of her coupons was honored. This is obviously a scheme to lure in customers. Only about a quarter of the store merchandise actually qualifies for the coupon. Macy's needs to stop this egregious advertising. Perhaps a class action lawsuit detailing its deceptive advertising would help.

Over 7 Months... Still Trying To Get A Charge Removed
By -

PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND -- Seven months ago I opened a Macy's charge account to take advantage of the 10% discount for a purchase of new furnishings. The following day I went to the store and cancelled part of my order. That part (a rug) was never delivered, as I had cancelled my order. The rest of the furnishings arrived without incident. I have been trying to have the charge for the cancelled rug order removed. No luck. Various customer service representatives have tried to help out but I get nowhere. I've called other numbers they've given me, only to be told I've called the wrong place and I need to deal with Macy's directly.

One nice representative assured me, after 45 minutes on the phone, that it was all taken care of and he would call me the next day, once everything had gone through, to confirm. Never heard back from him. In fact,in a later phone call, a different representative cited that call and said the note made about it stated that the call was "lost." I am in despair of ever having this charge removed. One representative in India kept insisting that I had received the rug! Incredible! One thing I've learned... never charge at Macy's... or if you do, never change your mind and try to cancel an order. Horrible customer service.

Very Happy
By -

NEW JERSEY -- I wanted to post this review because I walked away very happy with Macy's furniture. My leather sectional began to peel after 8 months from the time of purchase. Macy's sent service techs to repair the defected seat and they did a terrible job. Macy's sent a letter stating the issue was satisfied with the repair and that is all they could do. Long story short.... I wrote a letter to Macy's Furniture explaining my situation and in 2 weeks had a brand new couch delivered to my home. Thank you Macy's for doing the right thing by your customers.
