Don't Back Their Warranty
Posted by on
I bought a Sony 330A digital camera off of eBay on May 5th of 2011. Just shortly after my purchase I noticed a malfunction on the camera. I called the seller and was told they could not find anything wrong with it after sending it back to them for review. They suggested that I call the Sony customer service department to see what they could do as it was supposed to be under warranty. I spoke directly with a SONY representative. She asked me where I purchased the camera, when and from whom. I specifically asked if since I made my purchase off eBay if the camera was still under warranty and was told YES. I was also told that the warranty was good for one year after the date of my purchase. I specifically asked this question because if it weren't under warranty, I would send it back to the seller NOT to SONY for either repairs or my money back. Shortly after I sent the camera to SONY for the repairs I received an e-mail with a bill but not a single statement as to what the issue was and how it was fixed. ONLY a bill for the labor and repairs. I sent one back saying, I don't think so and who blindly pays for a repair that is not explained. You don't go to your mechanic and tell him to charge you whatever for whatever he does to your vehicle? That would be costly and outrageous. Got a call the next day from another SONY representative telling me that my purchase off of eBay was NOT under warranty and oh so sorry for your wasted shipping costs and time vested and that their representative was wrong. I asked to speak to someone of higher authority and was told "NO". Unbelievable that SONY, as large as they are, has such poor, mistrained representatives and such poor customer service. In the real world, if you make a claim, you own up to it whether or not it cost your company money or not. I will be going to every single website I can to let everyone know what a rip off this company is as they were more than willingly to blindly accept my money and to not buy any products if you ever plan on having to fix them under their so called warranty.

Many times, when someone buys something and then sells it, the warranty is void. It doesn't have anything to do with the dates bought or sold. It's the transfer of ownership. That might be in the warranty paperwork.
At Your Service on 2011-09-22:
The point that Kris10 makes is very valid. Sony sells within their "Sony Retail Network". Their warranty coverage is non-transferable. As a result, anything not purchase within their network is considered secondary and void from warranty.

It's unfortunate that you say you were told one thing at first. But I'm sure you can understand, anyone can claim they were told anything to get an item covered.
Anono on 2013-10-05:
Can't find language for their cameras, but Sony's printed policy concerning their TV sets seems favorable, fair and clear: "This Limited Warranty is transferable. However, any transfer of this product does not extend the term. A copy of the dated receipt or bill of sale from the original end user purchase is required to determine coverage. Online auction confirmations are not accepted for warranty verification."

LAREDO, TEXAS -- I read over 50 Reviews and they wear all Negative. I was worried about my camera. I shipped out on a Monday Fedex for warranty work. They received it on Wednesday and I got it back the following Tuesday. It was repaired and works great. I give praise to the service center

It's possible Sony is responding to complaints by providing better service. Hopefully there will be more reviews like yours.

Camera serviced twice, now dead, not two years old
Posted by on
I purchased this camera for a family wedding. It took fine pictures for about two months, and while on a trip of a lifetime just stopped working. I had it repaired, still under warranty. Approximately six months later, stopped working again. Had it repaired and worked for a while, now it is completely dead. I purchased a spare battery to make sure it wasn't "user error." No such luck.

I dislike Sony cameras due to their proprietary memory cards.

My daughter had a very similar experience with her Sony camera. She finally gave up and tossed it in the trash can.

Solid Review!

I have two Sony cameras, 5-6 years old. They both have worked fine.

Maybe you DID get a lemon, an isolated incident. By this time (1-2 years) old, if there was an issue in parts or production it may have been corrected. If that is the case, I don't see why others shouldn't "take a chance". I'd have no reservation buying a cybershot, myself. I'm sorry yours didn't work out.

Sony Products Horrible
Posted by on
I had problems with both items within 2 weeks and when I called they transferred me to India, which as we all know is no help WHATSOEVER.

I have my notebook repaired over 5 times already for the exact same issue, the camera had to be replace 1 time. The products are made very very very cheap and pathetic. I had a way easier time with my Dell laptop, never did I have to call.
