Medicare Complete from Secure Horizons
By -

This past January 2010, I signed up with AARP/Medicare Complete from Secure Horizons. I also sign my wife up for the same insurance in February. I have never been more disappointed in an insurance company. Every insurance company I have had over the past 10 years has had a website to track medical expenditures, claims, doctors, dentist, and specialist. Not Secure Horizons in Utah. There are several states that do have the benefit of a website that offers these services, but not in Utah.

I also had problems with finding a dentist as my current dentist does not accept MedicareComplete from Secure Horizons. Come to find out that some expenses are not covered up front but I need to submit a claim myself for a reimbursement. This is a pain in the butt as there is no means for tracking this on a website and it has to be done manually.

I initially had several calls to customer service to get answers to my question and was told incorrect information. I requested a new dentist listing and was promised it would be in the mail within two days. Never got it. The co-pays are the highest of anyone I know with Medicare Supplement Insurance. I have been unable to find out when a website with claim tracking, expense tracking, etc will become available within Utah. Just that it's coming soon and that input is from January calls. I wouldn't recommend AARP/MedicareComplete from Secure Horizons to anyone.

Unpaid Claim From 5/14/09

I agree with Donna **. This company is not to be trusted. My hospital has billed me for 12 months. I have called this company at least 10 times. They say it is under review. it has not been denied. It is just under review. I would think it would either be denied or paid in 12 month. I am beginning to think I have the wrong insurance co. I hope other customers have better luck than I have had. I called my hospital and the lady that takes care of medicare has had numerous problems with this co. no problems with other co.. After this mess is cleared up I will be shopping for another ins. co..

AARP -- A Forgotten Mission!
By -

This organization, established to make it easier for seniors to obtain products and share information seems to have lost its way. Everything now looks like a profit center -- insurance of all kinds, credit card promotions, investments, etc. This week they sent a request for renewal of membership four (4) months in advance (arrived in June for November), and the current cards just arrived a few weeks ago! Of course, many older people who don't keep up will simply send in their money and AARP will have another big pot from which to earn interest.

The credit card they promote (and only one!) charges high fees for ATM withdrawals. I stopped using it several years ago, and asked AARP to negotiate a better deal for seniors. I suspect they get some kind of referral fee for using their logo (which some might call a kickback -- oops, "marketing fee"). What gives? Has it become so big and money-driven that it has forgotten why it exists? I think so.

SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE -- Once I received my card in the mail received something every single week from solicited AARP. NO real savings and the biggest let down is that what they offer you as discount, you can get without paying for a membership. Just another product that targets people's pockets. Horrible!

Customer Service Is So Poor It's Just Sad

FLORIDA -- ** would not even connect me to a supervisor when she her hands were tied and she could not help me! Rude and unhelpful - bad combination for a business built on helping people. If a customer service representative is unequipped to assist due to language barriers or plain old incompetence, then a supervisor should be the next logical step. This leaves you with the option of calling back repeatedly in order to get someone that can speak English or just shopping around for a better choice altogether.

AARP Does Not Represent Older People. They Just Sell Insurance.

I finally had it with AARP. They only tried to sell me insurance and did not represent me as an older person. They also gave out my email address and phone number to other companies. I finally called them and had them delete my membership and refund my money.

US -- I received MANY forms from AARP requesting my dues, it seemed that these coming every few months. I sent in my dues last August, my card states that my membership is paid up through Dec. 2013, and yet I received an "offer" for a free insulated bag if I renew now. Many elderly people do not keep these records. AARP should be protecting its members, not trying to extract additional unnecessary fees!

So, I got a solicitation from AARP for life insurance. The cost is about 8 times more than what I currently pay. The same is true with just about everything else they sell. I can only assume that they are preying on seniors that they supposedly "represent." I get that they are not for profit. But I can't help but think they are charging their members as much as they can to fund their agenda. Bottom line, AARP does NOT represent me and never will.

Uselessness of AARP

NEW YORK -- I do not consider AARP as an effective organization anymore. It is prominent only in promotion of insurance companies, some services and others. AARP activities are not described in media: newspapers, TV, radio, Internet. "Occupy Wall Street", unions, civil rights organizations have real power. They organize rallies, demonstrations, strikes, everything that bring attention to their issues. Nobody knows about petitions that AARP makes its members send to senators and congressmen. People over 50 are huge part of American population. We have to go to streets and squares to be heard.

ROANOKE, VIRGINIA -- I, actually, have had this plan, over a couple years. Overall, it has saved me a lot of money, as I'm chronically ill. But e-warning!!! Since implementation of the Health Care Reform, many things are covered, only, by act of congress (every pun intended). If you are not willing to fight for each odd claim, and know your stuff, you will have troubles. Possibly regardless of insurer as all GPO my medicare guidelines.
