Rude Telephone Operators
By -

ATLANTA, GEORGIA -- Called to see why they didn't pay a claim to my doctor's office. Medicare paid their part and AARP Health Care did not pay anything. When I called the company they said that I would have to have the doctor's office send them the papers saying that Medicare paid them. I ask them to call the doctor's office. I had the telephone number, but they stated that was not their job. I pay them for my supplemental insurance, and they don't want to help me. I'm going to look for another supplemental insurance company.

How to really complain about AARP/ Hartford Auto Insurance
By -

HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT -- To really complain about AARP/Hartford Auto Insurance, I found out that the Hartford Auto Insurance company pays a royalty to AARP. So, instead of complaining to AARP, I am suggesting that a complaint form be filed with The State of Connecticut Insurance Department & you can print it off of your computer. The form is called CONSUMER COMPLAINT FORM and it is believed that will get a better response than a complaint with AARP because I could not find a complaint department within the AARP organization. GOOD LUCK.

Not Friendly

Their first year rate was reasonable, but the renewal rates were increased by several hundred dollars. I have no claims or accidents. The CRs are quite surly and unhelpful, in my opinion and experience. I have got quotes that are much less and so I will be leaving them. I cannot recommend them to seniors.

Keeps Raising Rates
By -

My auto insurance increased by 8% this year. I have a 2007 Honda Odyssey. I'm thinking that because the van is another year older that the rate would go down. Wrong. I changed to AARP Hartford three years ago; every year they raise my premium.

Harasses People With Their Mailings
By -

LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA -- I am so tried of AARP continually sending me applications for membership. They come with all sorts of names that are not mine, the latest being "Go to Hell" as the name. I will never join a company that harasses people with unsolicited mailings that never seem to stop despite repeated requests to uncaring phone workers.

Not in Seniors' Interest
By -

AARP is NOT a company working in the best interests of the senior population as they pretend to. First of all, they endorse Obamacare. Second, how can any company advertise SO HEAVILY on TV and the printed media and still provide service to the elderly? Answer: they don't. And talk about being obnoxious. I get several ads in the mail from them every week. I don't see any other insurance company in USA advertise so heavily trying to drum up business. If they were reputable and serviceable to the elderly they wouldn't need to advertise so much.

Too Many Ads/I Want My Travel Bag!
By -

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- On or about May 3rd 2010, I joined AARP. In the material I received in the mail was a promotion saying that if I joined by a certain date, I would receive a travel bag. I have yet to receive it, and have emailed them a few weeks after, and again 06-22-10. Since joining, I have continued to receive the same promotional ads on three occasions, the latest was today. A waste of money, hard copy spam.

Rip-Off
By -

FLORIDA -- AARP is a general rip-off in all aspects especially their auto insurance handled by Hartford. I was charged $2000,00 over what I could get from other companies. AARP is no friend to the elderly and I will never use them again!

AARP Sold Out Seniors
By -

How dare this company who grew as a result of money from SENIORS support a plan that does not support seniors. They are disgusting. I cancelled my card and my Mother cancelled her card as have all of her Senior friends. My friends too. Show them that supporting POLITICAL agendas is not how they became powerful. They should not be owned by either party... They should be loyal to SENIORS. Shame on them!!! Cancel your card and have your friends and family do the same and perhaps they will remember that they are supposed to help Seniors!

Privacy Not Respected
By -

I have been shopping for Medicare supplemental health insurance. To provide a quote it is necessary to provide date of Medicare activation, zip code and smoker/non-smoker. When I tried to get a quote from AARP United Healthcare they would not provide a quote without my name and address. They have no respect for privacy. It is suspicious they require information that has nothing to do with getting a quote. I told them I would supply any information that would not reveal my identity and they still refused to give a quote.
