Allstate's Decision Making Abilities
By -

I had a fender bender in a parking lot in 2008. The police said it was a no fault accident. After the accident, Allstate said that the lady had given a false address as well as false insurance, and could not even locate her. I later found out that Allstate had paid for the damages to her car. I had to pay for the damages to my car as well. When I tried to get some answers from my local Allstate office, no one would return my phone calls. I finally switched my insurance over to State Farm (less expensive with more coverage), and tried to get reimbursed for Allstate's mistake.

The answer I was given by their representative (the 4th one I was transferred to) was that the police officer was not there during the accident and after Allstate (who was also not there during the accident) investigated the accident, they found that the person who gave a false address, did not have auto insurance, and that they could not even find was the innocent victim in the accident. Allstate proved their decision making abilities and I would not recommend them to anyone.

Quote One Rate (In Writing) and Bill for Higher Rate
By -

After receiving my auto renewal papers, Allstate charged my credit card a higher rate than what was received in writing. I disputed with my CC company and won. They reversed the overcharge. Allstate then sent me a bill and threatened to cancel my policy if I didn't pay. It took 5 months to get them to send me an itemized bill documenting the increased amount. Even though they quoted me a lesser amount, they insisted I pay an additional $77.

I canceled my auto policy and did not renew my home policy. If this is how they handle premiums, I do not trust them to handle a claim correctly. I'm glad I got out before I had a loss claim and had them refuse to pay it like other reviews have stated. I will never deal with this company again.

I contacted the agent and Allstate 800#. No one was willing to stand by their original quote. I guess it was worth it to them to lose both policies and have me tell others of my experience. I'm considering filing a complaint with the Attorney General about their billing practices. It is worth it to me to find this out before I need any kind of claim service. By the way, I have never filed a home insurance claim (in 22 years) and have not had an auto accident in more than 5 years. Any auto claims have never been more than $3,000 either. They lost a great customer!!

Thank Goodness We Had Allstate!
By -

My husband and I were hit by a drunk driver March of 2005. This company took care of us - from handling the total loss of the vehicle, to the claims adjuster visiting us in the hospital. Our claims adjuster was such an advocate for us, that he went toe to toe with the hospital when we were billed at a higher rate. He was able to get their fees reduced, and paid us for our pain and suffering. Maybe there are some that have had bad experiences, but in my book, Allstate really did have us in good hands. Since our accident, we've been happy with our protection with Allstate.

Is There a Decent Auto Insurance Company Out There?
By -

I have spent all morning reading reviews of dozens of insurance companies. Sounds like they are all the same. Horrible. Been with the same Allstate agency since I was 16, I'm 51 now. Of course the agency changed hands multiple times. I have not submitted any claims in 35 years (so far). I carry a high deductible since it is a known fact that insurance companies (home and auto) are fine until you need to use them.

Last year, my son, 17 at the time parked his truck on a hill at baseball practice. As the team was leaving a player in a small car pulled behind my son's truck and stopped. My son, not seeing him, backed into him causing approx. $1,600 in damage to the other players car. I, of course, paid the full claim out of pocket. But, I did call my Allstate agent, whom I have never spoken to before about the possibility of filing the claim. The claim would amount to about $600 for Allstate after my deductible. My agent said that the surcharges and increase in premium would greatly exceed the $600 and advised me to not submit the claim. Just wondering what the 10's of 1000's of dollars I have paid over the years was for?

Allstate Doesn't Have "Good Hands" for Victim of Accident With One of Their Insuree.
By -

Allstate does NOTHING for the victim in a car accident with one of their clients. The police report states that the Driver insured by Allstate was totally responsible. Allstate adjuster contacted me and said that the car was totaled. However Allstate has refused to provide a rental vehicle and has done Nothing. The accident occurred in 2008 and Allstate just says that the accident is being investigated. If you are in an accident with a vehicle insured by Allstate you should be concern. If Allstate was the last insurance company on this earth I would not use them. It has been a horrible experience dealing with Allstate and I am still dealing with them. Allstate only has "Good Hands" for Allstate!

Lousy Treatment And Rate Increases
By -

ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS -- I have been a good customer of Allstate auto insurance for 6 or 7 years and have always paid my account in a 6 month or 3 month lump sum. I have never had a claim or violation since I have been with the company. YET every renewal time they consistently raise my rate by about $50.00 because of my credit report never taking into account that I have never been late paying always well in advance and never a claim or violation but they love to give less fortunate people a bad time.

They don't even talk to you with respect and dignity. Today I cancelled my insurance and found a well known co. that saved me $115.00 a month with the very same coverage and my credit was no problem to them. They took into account my driving record and history. Thank God there are a few good people left on earth that a poor old widow can still count on. God is good and they will get what they deserve some day.

Bad Customer Service
By -

GREEENWOOD VILLAGE, COLORADO -- I have been a loyal client of the ** (Allstate Insurance Representative) in Colorado for over three years. The one time that I actually called her to make changes to my policy, she hangs up on me. Allstate is more than happy to take your money but when it comes to customer service, they are horrible at it.

Details: I called to have a second driver and car taken off my policy and asked them what dates to write down in my change of policy request. Because you pay for a month in advance I wanted the second policy holder to keep their coverage under my policy until the month that we prepaid was over. She informed me that the month ends on the 12th of April and that the letter must be written 14 days in advance.

The letter was written to her specifications but when the next month rolled around - the company pulled that same exact payment from my account and no changes were made. I called to complain and my agent had the nerve to tell me that since the money was already pulled, there is nothing they will do and hung up on me.

Wow - three years of loyalty from me and what I get is a "won't help you and a dead line" - are you kidding me. If you want a good car insurance company working for you - make sure it's not ** with Allstate or Allstate at all - even the reps at the 1800 Allstate number wouldn't return my money. It truly is a horrible company.

Car Insurance

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- I made a policy change a while ago, added my father- in-law. A few months later I wanted to remove it, because we didn't need it. I made the policy change online, and heard no more about it, and assumed it had been done. I just got a notice from them that they're charging me for his insurance (he already has insurance through State Farm), even though I went online TWICE and removed his name.

They wouldn't remove his name without my having to call him, find the name of his current insurance company, the policy number, the dates, etc. All they want is to have him on their policy, so they can make their $10/month. As soon as the year is up, I'm going shopping for homeowner and car insurance policy.

Exclusion of a Child
By -

I went to Allstate to get my child excluded from my insurance because I can't afford the payment anymore and I was told that I couldn't exclude my child because he live with me and have a driver's license. I told them that he would not be driving my car anymore and they still wouldn't take him off. I feel that they do not have the right to do this to anyone. What can I do about this? I have been with this company for 7 years and this is the kind of service I get. Not very happy.

Allstate Fraud

COLCHESTER, CONNECTICUT -- Hi. Been with Allstate 40 years off and on. Never made a claim, never had any tickets. My car was stolen April 9 2011. It's May 14, 2011, still waiting. They won't call you back. They pass the buck. Rude, they just don't care. My attorney called 3 or 4 times. They never called him back. You're in good hands with Allstate... around your neck. They should be charged with fraud. They Suck.
