SPRINGFIELD, NEW JERSEY -- I paid for my membership with my credit card to find out that someone in Bally Total Fitness applied credit from my credit card to someone else's account. I was literally paying for some other person's membership with my credit card without my authorization. It was very stressful to try to correct this matter with Bally's. Do not leave your credit card or ATM information with Bally's. They will use it without your permission toward someone else's membership.

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK -- They will nickel and dime you to death! They will attack your credit card with fees you never knew about. You will have to work very very hard to cancel or terminate your membership. All the clubs are dirty and never get cleaned. Hours of operation are minimal. The staff are like bumps on a log. They are helpful when selling you a membership, but it drastically stops when you sign the paper. It doesn't get much worse than Bally Total Fitness.

Bally Total Fitness advertises with huge banners in their gym, "bring a friend free for the month of August", then you bring a friend and they tell you, it's a $10.00 fee. Well there's a big difference between free and $10.00. Very Very false advertisement, not good customer service.

Stay away from Bally's fitness. These people are sharks. They altered the date on my contract by changing the date, I lost the original and now I'm stuck with payments. No lawyer will take the case. Please don't make the same mistake I made.

Problem company

CALIFORNIA -- This is the worst company to try to deal with. Promises were made about the membership when signing up that are totally untrue. Cancellation was done in writing and still funds were taken out on account. Still not settled and threats have been made to damage credit unless additional payments are made. Very bad company to deal with. Hire an attorney to read and interpret their contract before signing it.

PORTLAND, OREGON -- Don't ever think about signing up with those people! I've never dealt with such luck of competence and luck of knowledge in my life! I was on auto pay and was supposed be charged once a month but now they've charged me 3 times without my authorization!! I've been trying to get my money back for a month now and they charged it again. When I suggested that they check if my other membership was canceled they acted like I was crazy and now they are charging me 2 memberships! There's just no word for this kind of stupidity.

Cheap, Distrespectful, and No Customer Service

I regularly attend the Bally Total Fitness in Hollywood, CA. Not only are there NO towels in the bathroom to dry your hands (one air dryer is available only), but they are always out of toilet seat covers. I also do not appreciate seeing Spanish TV on their TVs. I find it extremely disrespectful to US tradition. Whomever is allowing this is probably a resentful person. I also have asked for help a few times, even once asking if I could have four quarters for a dollar. No effort was made to assist me in any way.

I stumbled on the Bally rant looking for something else. I joined BTF in Fort Lauderdale over five years ago. After completion of the usual contract, I'm now on a low monthly rate. Last Spring my wife needed some rehabilitation for a broken bone for a few months so I signed her up for their cancel-anytime plan. When she wanted to stop I dropped by the manager's office and he gave me the number 1-888-348-5005 to call. I got an almost immediate answer from a helpful, courteous person who quickly handled the cancellation.

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA -- I joined up with Bally's in St. Paul, MN entering an 18-month membership that I regrettably paid in full. Since joining 9 months ago, the entire place has a foul odor and poor customer service. There is rarely paper towels and cleansers available anywhere in the facility. Once the machines are used, they are left for the next individual with the sweat, and germs from the prior person, because we cannot clean them. I have contacted them to cancel my membership and refund me, but they will not. My personal trainer even quit. Shame on Bally's!
