Bank of America Doesn't Want Long Term Customer
By -

BUFFALO, NEW YORK -- Let me start out by saying I have been a Bank of America or MBNA customer since 2000. This was my first bank that gave me a credit card. I've used one card or another almost from Bank of America primarily since then. I had 3 cards with this bank, one dating back to 2000 and US Airways one for the past 2 years I've used for all my purchases.

Last month I logged online to Online banking and found an old account I had since 2000 was closed without my permission. I called in and was told it was closed for inactivity and that I could get it re-opened. I was happy they would do this since I needed the credit history.

My account was never re-opened. I called back in and spent the next several hours (over half the day) being bounced around overseas (Indian) call centers dealing with surly, angry and rude representatives. I knew this was not the usual Bank of America I was used to, so I tried to go with the flow. After calling back multiple times after disconnections or barely understandable international representatives I was connected to a "credit analyst" in the Phoenix area.

She spent the next several minutes complementing my payment history (better part of a decade, no missed payments, often paid in full) and credit score (It is high 700s, she said it was one of the highest she'd seen). She then announced that not only was it impossible to re-open my old account but rather she was decreasing all my credit lines since it was "risky" to have high exposure limits.

I pleaded to no avail, pointing out that cutting my lines and erasing my old card would negatively impact my credit score. She did not care. I pointed out that of anybody I would be resistant to the effects of the economy due to my advanced education, status as a homeowner with significant equity, and job in the health care/bio tech field. Ironically, Bank of America's stock dropped over 15% that day and is down 60%+ off its 52 week high.

I elevated the matter to the CEO's office. While they did re-open my old account they refused to help with the 50%+ reduction in my credit line saying they could not override the credit department's policies. I was offered a $25 gift card to keep my business with the bank. I refused as a point of honor, pointing out that I had given Bank of America hundreds in foreign transaction fees, interest and interchange profits just over the past year and that given the four to five hours I had spent on the phone trying in vain to straighten the mess out Bank of America was implying that my time was worth only ~$6 an hour.

Hilariously, I tried to pay my balance down to zero, only to have some extra bank charges pop up at the last minute. I tried to pay those off and was then told I had made too many online payments that month. The phone reps demanded $15 to make a payment by phone. All this to close an account.

Today I finally got my balance down to zero as a new month had begun. I have taken my business to another bank with equal rewards and will not be looking back. If Bank of America runs into trouble in the future perhaps it should look at itself for treating its customers with such disrespect.

I know they say credit card companies spend hundreds in advertising per customer they bring in so you'd figure they wouldn't be insulting loyal clients who have brought them thousands in profits. I would warn anybody to be hesitant to do business with this Bank.

Credit Card Rates!!
By -

KISSIMMEE, FLORIDA -- Bank of America is hurting people instead of helping them!! They are creating more problems with the high rates on the credit cards. The following is what is happening to me. I bank with Bank of America for over 11 years now. Long relationship - at one point I had business accounts, house, vehicles, checking and saving with them.

The only time I had a problem with paying my bills was during my divorce period for personal reasons over five years now. When I sold my house I paid off all of our bills and didn't owe anyone nothing. Some credit cards were settled at a lower balance, but they were paid.

Since then my credit has been fixed and I have several accounts with Bank of America. I have two other credit cards but Bank of America has always been the card with the higher rate. Approximately 8 months ago they raise my credit limit and offered me a low rate of 3% on transferring balance (with a fee). I did so I consolidated all of my credit cards to my Bank of America credit card. When the promotion finished the rate went up to 22%!!!

I called in and they lowered it to 15.99 %. At which point I advised them I will no longer use that card because I could not believe that my bank couldn't give me a better rate than the other two cards I have (which are at 8%). Since then I pay almost twice the amount of the minimal payment required and in Sept I made a payment of $500. Bank of America is charging me around $100+ a month on finance fees, so I started to aggressively pay this card off.

Yesterday I called Bank of America to inform them that I lost my job at the end of Sept 2008 and if I could have a lower rate to help me out. I was advised that next month (Jan 2009) it will go up to 25%!!! They stated that I owe too much on the card?? Way below my limit and that my credit history could be causing this increase?!?! (My score is 680?? I have not been late on any payment on anything in over 5 years!!??)

I was informed that I have the option to disagree with this rate increase. If I do disagree they will close this account and keep the rate at 16.99 (which went up from 15.99, on its own). I informed the customer service representative that I've been with Bank of America for over 11 years and this is how the repay me for my loyalty, by in my time of need they will close the account and keep the rate at 16.99???

He stated there was nothing he could do because I fit the profile (guidelines) to this rate increase - which he couldn't explain. Every time he stated something I advised that my history is just the opposite. Advised him to go ahead, close the account and once I get on my feet I will close all my accounts with Bank of America and never use them again. And the government wants to take my tax money to help them???

Insane Interest Rates
By -

COLORADO -- It seems Bank of America is at it again. Congressional inquiries, consumer complaints and bad publicity don't seem to be slowing them down one bit. Here's a bit from an article by Robert Berner chastising Bank of America: Adam Levin, CEO of Credit.com and former head of New Jersey's Division of Consumer Affairs, says he is surprised Bank of America would risk bad public relations with its rate increases, given the congressional hearings in December.

The bank risks alienating new customers and existing ones by being so brazen, he says, adding, "Either Bank of America has more financial troubles than it is willing to admit or it has a level of institutional arrogance that is unacceptable."

After my experience with them, I'll go with the arrogance. With all the usual yada yada about no late payments, no missed payments, no score changes, etc, I'm like many other people who they want to jack up interest rates on - to 25.49%!! "Insane," I said. What was MORE insane was trying to navigate their customer service. The first customer service person became defensive and rude when presented with a perfectly legitimate question and reasoning, transferred my call to a rate specialist which I gave up holding for after 17.32 minutes.

The second call resulted in me opting out of the higher interest under the agreement I would not continue to use the card. She acted surprised when I told her I had TWO cards and would not be using either one of them. When I asked for a confirmation number she merely said a confirmation letter would arrive in 5-7 business days. That hasn't happened. After slicing the cards into insanely tiny pieces and mulling the situation over for a day, I decided to call again.

This time I asked for a rate specialist right away. The customer service agent asked me 3 times how could he help me. I finally said in a little louder voice "BY CONNECTING ME TO A RATE SPECIALIST!!!" Again, I was on hold for an unreasonable amount of time. When I finally did get to talk to a rate specialist, he asked a lot of questions, looked over the information he had on hand, didn't offer any answers and said he was not authorized to make any decisions.

I pointed out to him that even without the interest rate hike, the interest Bank of America was charging me was more than double any other interest rate I have even though their card is the oldest I have and that I could easily do without them if they somehow couldn't correct this. With 12 accounts in good standing and only 4 with balances and no late payments on any of them, this didn't make any sense to me.

He then told me he would have someone with the authority to work on this problem return my phone call within the hour. No one ever called. I tried calling this representative on four separate occasions using the phone number and extension he provided, making sure I was within the Eastern Time Zone timing for the hours and days he said he would be available only to have the phone ring for over 12 minutes each time - no voice mail, no answer, nothing.

Tomorrow I will be sending a letter opting out of the interest as I now have reason to suspect they will find some way of saying I never called. I will be sending it certified mail with a return receipt and keeping a copy for my records. I have notated all of the above account including times, dates and names.

Another interesting thing I would like to point out is that I am not only a credit card holder, I am a depositor. Bank of America pays me a paltry 1.55% interest on a money market. I also have to maintain a 5000 dollar account to avoid fees. This didn't seem to dissuade them about their decision to lower my interest rate. If you do the math, you realize they're charging people like me this insane interest, but only paying me 1.55% to provide the money to loan it to them. That's quite a profit.

I withdrew the money. My brother, coming to the same realization, withdrew his money. My mother, unhappy with the 5000 dollar loss she took in the 3rd quarter of this year on her investment account with Bank of America, also closed her account. At that rate, it's cheaper to pay the taxes and be done with it. Bank of America may be the number one bank where assets are concerned and the number 3 where deposits are concerned right NOW, but I seriously doubt they will remain that given their current practices.

I believe their recent acquisition of Merrill Lynch also spells trouble given the fact that the largest shareholder of Merrill Lynch, Temasek, will become the largest shareholder of Bank of America. Temasek Holdings is an investment company that is owned by the government of Singapore and is excluded from the transparency and greater disclosure usually required by the US.

Bank of America deposits have shrunk by one third over the past year and at 5.9%, they have the highest default rate on credit cards (gee I wonder why). Their stock value has also significantly diminished (worth only 14.32 today after a 52 week high of over 40 dollars). Looks like trouble to me and rightly so.

Credit Card Rate Increase, Because They Can!!
By -

I have sent this letter in reference to a sudden increase in my APR of 12% for no reason other than they can. I have never been late and Never used the card to its limit and this is how I get treated by their customer service credit department. Be aware because they could be doing it to you, always pay attention to your bill and don't think you're safe just because you pay your bills on time.

I have been a customer of Bank of America for many years and have never been treated so unfairly and insulted so much by your bank as I am right now. I have talked to two of your representatives today and did not have good conversations with either. I have lost my patience and temper with both and rightfully so. I have had credit cards with your bank for years and I have always paid my bill on time and more than the minimum due.

It is just recently that I have acquired a higher balance on my Bank of America Platinum card. As of March of 2008 my balance started to increase due to life situations of moving and being between jobs, however I have maintained paying more than my minimum due and on time. In the last few months I have been paying double my minimum. Therefore I do not expect to be treated as if I have neglected making payment or I am not paying enough for your terms. It has only been 7 months that I have had a bit higher balance than usual and I have not been using the card so I can get the balance down.

I have never maxed this card out and never came close to the limit the bank gave me. So why is it that my interest rate is getting raised from 11.99% to 24.99% as if I am doing something wrong by your banking standards? If you want people to pay off their balances quicker you don't raise their interest rate just because you can. Your representative does not have the right to tell me that I am not a good customer or not good enough for your terms. I am insulted that your bank would put me down and treat me as if I am not paying as agreed.

If you want to higher interest rates on people you should be doing it to the ones who aren'€™t paying not the people who are. Your bank has now lowered my credit limit so that it looks as If I have a maxed out credit card and is still charging me a higher interest rate for one month. This is unacceptable, it is as if you are penalizing me for being late or not paying and that is not the case. I have never been late, not once!! I have another credit card with your bank that has a high limit and I have a good standing on that card with a low balance that I am working on paying off also.

I have used Bank of America for business accounts, I have had CDs that I have kept money in and I also use Bank of America for all my personal banking. I am now looking for another bank to bank with and looking to switch my credit cards over also. I have had points in my life where I have had a lot of money and points where I am just getting by. I have always paid my bills at any of those points and I have never abused my credit or credit cards.

Your bank has made me so angry I don'€™t want to pay a dime to you, but fortunate for your bank I care about my credit and it'€™s pretty pathetic that your bank is now taking advantage of the people that actually care and want to pay their bills and maintain their credit. What exactly makes a valued customer to your bank? I have no patience for representatives that want to be arrogant and throw judgment around. I take it that your bank does not care about its customers and does not appreciate loyalty.

I will be sending this letter to all departments of Bank of America as I close all my accounts which apparently mean nothing to your bank because I am not a good enough customer per your terms. I hope in the future you will value your customers better, even us little guys that depend on fair treatment and deserve it.

Bank Of America Gave Me A Worthless Gas Card!!!
By -

Bank of America credit card improperly charged me a late fee and incorrectly increased my interest rate. After several months of speaking with various representatives a customer service rep promised to credit back my account for the late fee and bring my rate back down to the correct APR. After a couple billing cycles, I noticed that part of the fee had been credited, but the interest rate had not been changed.

I again called in and after waiting for long durations and speaking with numerous customer credit card representatives, was informed that all corrections would be made to my APR. The person was very apologetic and after reviewing all of the notes on my account, asked if she could send me a gas card.

About a week ago, I received a letter from Bank of America signed by the representative. I received a $50.00 GAS CARD from B of A issued by Hallmark for Exxon Mobile. But when I go to www.exxonmobile.com, I noticed that there are NO Exxon Mobiles anywhere near me, closest is over 50 miles away. I called Hallmark, the number on the letter and they informed me that there had been several calls on this issue & told me to call B of A.

I called B of A and after speaking with several reps and managers they said they would email the person that sent me the card. They mentioned that they have other gift cards but only that person could send to me. I was told that the person who sent me the gas card would contact me and of course I have not heard from anyone.

I do not know why B of A sent me this worthless, useless gas gift card when my city and state is on my account and knowing this information they should have realized that Exxon Mobile gas stations do not exist in my area. I want them to let me send back this worthless gas card & exchange it for a gift card that I can use. I have gotten nothing but the runaround.

Jan 2008 Interest Rate Hike
By -

ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO -- My wife and I got married July 1, 2007 after 7 years of being together. At the beginning of the year we started talking about getting a home. The mortgage crisis started heating up in the news and we started getting worried that we may never be able to own a home. We both have a number of credit lines as well as student loans. All of our accounts are paid on time and were all current when we started looking for homes and they remain current today.

We talked to a mortgage broker about getting qualified for a new home; being honest with her we were concerned about how our current credit may affect the process. She checked our numbers and showed us our scores. The lowest for us was a 689 with the highest being 704. We asked her if these were good for what we were trying to do and she told us that they're actually great for the lender we were going through. We got approved and the closing is due on Feb 28th 2008 but we have been told that everything is ready and if we wanted to close early we could.

I add this backstory to further illustrate the horror that could have become my wife and myself with this HUGE rate increase in January 2008 from Bank of America. My rate was 8.25%, not bad, not good, but it was okay and also allowed us to pay the bills and not be totally strapped for cash. We can afford the payment on our new home but had I missed the letter that was sent from Bank of America (dressed like so much junk mail is these days) I would have lost everything.

My rate would have soared to over 26% on each of my 2 cards bringing my monthly payment to over $1,400.00 per month total for both cards. Each payment would have been quadruple the current payment and would be greater than my monthly income by about $350.00.

My wife and I could not have a home and would be another casualty of the current economic downturn. We caught the letters in time and have chosen to decline the amendment and never use the cards again. I was able to get qualified for a home in a market that is obviously struggling. I don't have a variable rate on my home, in fact I have a VERY low rate, one of the lowest in 9 years from what I hear. Yet with my ability to get home, my slightly above average credit when averaged from the big 3 bureaus, Bank of America thought I was in need of a rate hike that would keep me from ever reaching any portion of the American dream.

In an attempt to get an answer from Bank of America on this I was transferred 3 times to a dead end as I was disconnected each time and then when I called the fourth time I was passed off twice and then told I would have to call another number and couldn't be transferred. With this treatment I am very uneasy with the “You must send your own letter to decline the amendment” in fear that they will get it and ignore it. I will be sending the letters overnight, insured and certified.

I struggle to understand why they choose to make these changes. To my understanding the change is to help protect themselves (the bank) from “risk” customers. If I am such a risk, doesn't raising my rate so very high just provoke that risk into reality? It is a blessing in a way as I will never use the cards again and will pay off what is currently on the cards.

When the country is in such an economic spiral you would think that such a move would accelerate the fall of our dollar. Perhaps that's the plan. In either case, this is a practice that, in my opinion is simply to raise profit and fill pockets with little regard to the effect on “valued customers”. I will be a homeowner at the end of the month, no thanks to Bank of America, but I will be a homeowner nonetheless.

1960's Era Computer "Technology"
By -

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- This bank likes to consider itself on top of the latest technology, yet in some of its basic banking functions it uses logic reminiscent of ancient 1960's computer programming. I've had a BOA credit card for about six years and have never paid a dime of interest because I like to pay the full balance due every month.

They offer a free non-interest bearing checking account if you use it to pay your credit card automatically. They give you two options... automatically pay MINIMUM amount due or ENTIRE balance due. The key word here is DUE.

I normally keep enough money in the account to cover full balance due for any given month. Apparently when I deposited a check a few months ago the deposit was accidentally credited to the credit card account instead of the checking account. Unbeknownst to me (I'm not too fanatical about checking my statements regularly) two days later they sent a debit to my checking account for the ORIGINAL payoff balance (it was more than paid in full by that earlier deposit) which then was promptly BOUNCED as NSF (because the money obviously was not put into the checking account).

For their own STUPIDITY in not checking to see that there was actually no balance due I was charged a $35 NSF fee plus a $39 returned check fee. Talk about adding insult to injury! A month later, not aware this had happened, I intentionally made a payment in full directly to the credit card account in advance of my due date (because I was near to my credit limit) and once again the same thing happened (this time it was a $7000 pre-payment).

The following month, still not having checked my accounts, I made a partial direct payment to my credit account, assuming that the small difference (i.e. of the remaining balance due) would be then paid off from the checking account. Nope. They again debited the FULL original payoff balance to my checking account and for the THIRD time assessed a $35 NSF fee and $39 returned check fee. Then my card was REJECTED the next time I tried to make a purchase.

Finally when I called customer service to complain, the representative said "oh, I see the problem" and told me they had "double posted" the payoff balances, neglecting to mention all the "overdraft" charges on both accounts. He did re-activate the card.

Eventually a couple weeks later when I got around to reviewing my accounts I was shocked to see the sequence of events and immediately called to complain. After an hour or more of fuming over the phone, all fees and interest charges were reversed. However, I was told in no uncertain terms that "THIS IS JUST THE WAY THE SYSTEM WORKS" thus if I was dissatisfied I should just discontinue the automatic payment option.

WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLY IDIOTIC SYSTEM! Certainly there was no indication by any of the supervisors at BOA of any need or desire to actually do anything regarding remedying the real problem. Guess it's too much trouble to program their computers to calculate in real time the actual balance due prior to zapping your checking account with some outdated amount (of course their idiotic computers seem to be smart enough to determine I'm now a deadbeat who bounces a lot of checks and requires a 7 day hold put on all his deposits). SHEESH!

Contact the OCC about your B of A issues
By -

FLORIDA -- I contacted the OCC (Office of the Comptroller of the Currency), you can find them online, this company needs to be stopped. My story (latest) is as follows. I will speak with prior incompetence and poor business with Bank of America later but here is my latest experience:

  • 9/3/07 Open a line of credit 0% interest for 6 months, $10,000 in conjunction with a timeshare agreement.
  • 9/5/07 Certified letter sent to timeshare to Rescind agreement (w/in 5 day allotment).
  • 9/7/07 Proof of Certified letter receipt received.
  • 9/7/07 Receive credit card requesting call for activation, called and had Kyle ** confirm that there had been no charges applied to the card and offered to change account number which I did. I was told by Kyle that a new card was on its way.
  • 9/11/07 Call to Marquitha concerning letter received that day about redistributing credit lines on the new account and an old account, as did not have information on old account changed that number too and requested new card. I was told the 2nd card would be on its way, that the other card was already on its way and that there were no charges showing on either card.
  • 9/14/07 Called and spoke w/ Sandra (Pasadena Ca) to ask status of cards, as had yet to receive the 0% card and wished to use it. Was told that the 2nd card was mailed out 9/11/07 and the first not until 9/13/07.
  • 9/14/07 Was called by “David **” of Bluegreen Resorts to say "Hey… You bailed on us." I asked if he had indeed been notified of my Cancellation (Right to Rescind) letter and he said yes and that the company would be issuing a refund. As I was told by 3 representatives of Bank of America that no charges had been placed against the card, this in fact did not worry me.
  • 9/17/07 Receive statement with charge from Timeshare ($8860). Call made, spoke with Nancy ** (East Tennessee) who told me the charge was made, this call took over 30 minutes, when asked for supervisor was hung up on.
  • 9/17/07 Called back and the gentleman (Indian accent) was very condescending and when asked his name after AGAIN providing account number and asking for a supervisor, he too hung up on me.
  • 9/17/07 Called and spoke w/ Yolanda ** (Maryland) who initially argued with me concerning my request for a supervisor. When I further demanded to speak with one after having spent over an hour on this day with "Customer Service" I was put on hold for over 15 minutes and seemingly put into the queue again after I had been told I would be connected to manager Barbara ** by Yolanda **.
  • 9/17/07 I was finally connected to Varnell (Neward, Delaware) and again demanded to speak to a supervisor. After another 5 minutes I was connected to Mike ** who said "real sorry…about your trouble however you have only 2 choices here, you can either wait 30 days for the company to refund or you can fax over a copy of the contract, the "snapshot" of your version and we will review." When I asked for his supervisor as I found this unacceptable given I had already been told by 3 representatives that no charge was made Mr. ** said “I am as far as you can go.” Asked if he was CEO and had no one above him, he said “No I am not CEO but you can talk to no one else but me”.

Amazing to be held hostage by a bank and be told “I am as far as you can go, you do it my way or I can't help you”. Buyer beware: Seems there is no accountability and a supervisor holds all the cards, with no opportunity to complain to anyone who can actually do something. Be very aware when doing business with this company.

Now, I previously had a mortgage, banking account, savings account, safe deposit box and credit card with Bank of America. Due to mismanagement, rudeness, questionable business practices…of those, all but the credit card (2nd card mentioned above) were closed, be very very careful, unless you have limitless patience and time to deal with this company, my advice: Use American Express.

Sears Balance Transferred w/o My Authorization
By -

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- In September or October 2006, I applied for a debt consolidation credit offer (I'm not sure whom the offer came from) and was turned down. I received a subsequent offer in October from Bank of America and called the phone number on the letter. Somehow, they knew of my recent turndown. After providing all my Sears credit card information, the representative told me I couldn't transfer the entire balance owing but only $300 worth. I told the representative to forget it, that $300 wasn't going to help me and we hung up.

In November I received a piece of mail that said "Bank of America" on it. Knowing that it wasn't my bank statement, I thought it was another solicitation for insurance. To my surprise, it was a credit card statement showing a balance of $312.07. I immediately thought it was a mistake, not thinking it could be related to the Bank of America offer which I had declined.

I called the phone number on the statement in Nov. 2006, and spoke to a supervisor in New Jersey. He had me on the phone over an hour speaking to Sears, who was unwilling to credit the money back. The supervisor said to me that he thought he knew the agent who had done this. His implication was that the agent had done it before and was one of the newer agents. I have called Bank of America on several occasions about this matter.

In January 2007, the representative told me that Bank of America had reversed a $12, $35, and another $35 penalty from my account, as well as a $59 annual fee. She also told me that Bank of America had removed a 30-day late fee from my credit history. She also said that Bank of America had extended the lower interest rate on the balance owing for me. I told her that Bank of America should eat the entire amount transferred from Sears and she said they wouldn't do that.

Before the Bank of America representative hung up she suggested that I pay the credit card statement, and said that paying Bank of America the balance owing of $300 at 2.9% interest was a better rate than I had from Sears. She was correct, it was a better rate, but that doesn't permit Bank of America to force me into letting them make money on my debt without my permission; that's considered fraud. I sent Bank of America Chairman, President, and CEO Mr. Kenneth D. Lewis, a certified letter in February 2007 reiterating the above facts and told him I would never pay one nickel of my debt to Bank of America.

I received a phone call from Sherry ** in Executive Relations who reports to Kenneth Lewis in March 2007. I told her the charges needed to be reversed back to my original debtor, Sears. She said that couldn't be done, so I told her Bank of America should eat the balance owing and she said they would not do that. She told me the debt would probably result in a charge off against me. She said that Bank of America had worked with me by removing the late charges. I told her that Bank of America did that to cover their own fraudulent acts; they didn't do it to help me.

In no way am I trying to get out of paying ANYONE that I owe their money. The original debt with Sears was over $5000 and has since been paid off. Certainly paying an additional $300 to whom the debt was owed was not going to break me, but Bank of America took a risk when they transferred the money without my authorization and they should have to eat it. The amount owed has gone from $300 to over $700. I filed a complaint with the WA State Attorney General's Office. My next complaint will be filed with the Office of the Comptroller of Currency, www.occ.gov.

Bank of America Steals Money With
By -

In April, 2006, I overpaid the balance on my Bank of America credit card, rounding the payment up to the next dollar for a slight credit balance. I haven't used that credit card since, and the small credit has remained on my account during that time, until -- Exactly one year to the day later than the closing date of that 2006 billing cycle, Bank of America issued a "Finance charge adjustment" to my account which nullified that small credit and "adjusted" my balance to zero.

I talked by phone with a Bank of America "customer satisfaction specialist" who said that Bank of America discovered an error in my account. The credit was an error on their part she said, and therefore they remedied their error, removed the credit to my account and "adjusted" the balance to zero.

My questions, which were (I think purposely) not answered directly, were these:

  1. Why did Bank of America's error correspond to the EXACT amount of my overpayment of my last bill? If it was a true error on their part, it would seem like a statistical impossibility for their small error to be exactly the amount of my small overpayment and credit.

  2. Why did Bank of America suddenly discover the error and correct it EXACTLY one year after I paid my last bill and ceased using the credit card (because I have been using other more favorable credit cards since)?

I received no satisfactory answers from the customer satisfaction representative, who strived to "meet or exceed my expectations," according to her scripted greeting. However, my own conclusions are that Bank of America assumed, because I had not used the card in a year, that something had happened to make me forget the account and card, or that perhaps I had died, and they therefore appropriated for themselves the small credit I had placed in the account.

What bothers me is not the amount I lost (less than a dollar), but the idea that a large corporation is stealing money from customers in a systematic way under the guise of mysterious and arbitrary charges to their accounts. That's what infuriates me, and therefore I'm adding my voice to the myriad other complaints that have been made by angry customers of Bank of America.
