24 Hour Customer Service (Press 1 for Broken English)
By -

I don't know what you called, but Capital One has 24 hours a day operators in customer service. BUT... you were probably better off with the recordings. Their 24 hour customer service about as useful as a ping pong ball at the Super Bowl. First they speak broken English and are obviously not American Employees.

Lets get over this issue though and keep it to the issue at hand. While they do have 24 hour operators they are to be nice, incompetent and unable to address anything that is not written in their book of answers. If you ask them what your balance due is then you will be ok, but try not to go too far past that because they will not be able to help you.

I had an issue with a credit that did not appear on my card and I explained how the Hilton did put the credit through and even gave them the date and transaction number they gave me. This did not help. All they can tell me is that it takes up to two billing cycles to appear. Forget the fat that I was on five or six cycles with no credit. They tell me that I have to call the Hilton and talk to them. I even had Hilton Customer service on the phone with me on 3 way calling and that still did not help.

Oh, and then they tell me I need to speak to the fraud department. OK. They transferred me and it was like "this is not fraud. We will connect you to the correct department." Wam bam. Right back to Customer Service where I had to start at square one again. After another 10 to 15 min of back and forth it was clear that they were not going to be able to tell me anything that made sense. They again told me to call Hilton even though they were on the line with me telling them that they did credit my account. At one point they told the Hilton Customer Support person to call Hilton. She tried to explain that she was the fricken Hilton.

The Hilton lady told me that she was going to cut up her Crapital One card and thanked me for the heads up. I have given up calling these fine folks and have written a letter with a copy of the refund documents from Hilton. We will see if this helps. I hate to give advice, but on this one case I will do it. I advise that you stay away from Capital One. A wise Philosopher once said that a true sign of intelligence is to learn from others mistakes. I was that mistake.

Capital One 0% APR Balance Transfer Letter Sent to Millions of People Is a FRAUD
By -

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA -- I received a letter from Capital One stating I am qualified to transfer my balances from different credit provider with higher interest rate to Capital One providing a service of 0% APR for 12 months. After I got approved to open an account with them and transferred my balances from my other credit card provider, I did not managed to check my statement if my APR is really a ZERO percent. I automatically trusted Capital One that they will provide the service that they stated on the letter I received not knowing I have been paying finance charges for 5 months.

I have been paying my monthly payment to Capital One on time for 5 months and after 5 months I realized Capital One have been charging me for finance charges. I immediately called them asking to credit back the finance charges I was billed for. I should have 0% APR according to the letter I received. They told me that they will only credit back the finance charges if I can provide the letter I received stating I am qualified for 0% APR.

Unfortunately, I threw that letter because when I applied to open an account with them I called them through phone. Plus, why would I keep that letter when I always receive 0% APR letters from different credit card providers. I was actually holding another 0% APR letter from Capital One when I called them, they told me that I cannot use the letter I'm holding because I just got qualified for a 0% APR and 5 months ago, I was not qualified.

Capital One will try to keep their business by charging people with finance charges even though they have promised to provide a ZERO PERCENT APR. Please be careful with Capital One. They have hidden charges and will try to trick people aside from they have bad customer service to solve the problem. They will not listen to you and over power your voice when you are talking. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

Unfair Treatment To Staff
By -

MELVILLE, NEW YORK -- I'€™m writing on behalf of a family member who is absolutely destroyed now that Capital One Bank has taken over North Fork Bank. She is employed at a call center environment, with 60 plus calls waiting a day at minimum. With a service level of 30% when it's supposed to be around 80% or higher. The minute one call ends, another one follows, without one second in between. It's non-stop. They cancel morning breaks a majority of the time out of the week, it call volume is high. I feel It'€™s very essential that they receive all breaks due to the high call volume.

The managers don'€™t allow you to have 2 seconds to your self. If there is a holiday or any given day where the calls are not as consistent there ready to send you home, using YOUR OWN voluntary unpaid time off. There'™s a thing called compliance which you are required to reach a certain month to date average which is 93% or higher, and is nearly impossible due to representative having to limit each call to less than two minutes and two seconds while assisting clients. Another issue is you're penalized for using the restroom which is over their allotted time frame.

You have to suffer if you are on the phone assisting a client and the phone call runs over into your lunch time which, for example, is twelve noon and let's say the call ends at twelve ten, naturally you're going to log off at twelve ten and return at twelve forty because you're entitled to a half hour lunch break.

Unfortunately at Capital One bank because you went to lunch late you are considered late returning and it is deducted from your compliance. If we were to hang up on the customer it would be considered an auto fail so they leave us no choice but to except it. The person that I'€™m speaking of is a very good employee and has been working with the bank for three plus years.

As we stated earlier she's been employed with them ever since it has been North Fork Bank. She has never been written up or received any verbal warnings. She has kept a great attendance and always meets the job requirements and expectations. I come home every day and see this person mentally physically destroyed, this job is getting the best of her.

It'€™s indescribable the amount of stress and depression this person has endured working with this company. This is not just a problem with this individual 80% of her co-workers have complained and I've decided to take further action in hopes to seeing some results. If necessary, this person would be willing to give all her information to proceed further. Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

Unethical Charges, Failure To Properly Close Account, Breach Of Contract
By -

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CALIFORNIA -- Capitol One is the #1 BAD ACTOR in my book. Here's what happened to us just LAST WEEK. We got on to talk with a customer service representative. I am helping my friend who is a foreign national. Capital One CSRs have been deliberately using his language barrier against him so my friend asked me to help him. My family name has been in the United States since the 1630's and my family was pioneers to our current home--here since 1847.

** asked Capitol One for a payoff amount. It was given to him. He sent a check. Capitol One received the check...but held it for approximately one week. Late FEE charges were charged, as well as overdraft fees and over the limit fees. ** then paid for these charges. MORE FEES WERE THEN APPLIED BY ** UNETHICAL ** accountants at...you guessed it...CAPITOL ONE.

** CALLS ME just last week. I help by calling the CSRs and insist on NAMES and EMPLOYEE numbers! They delay giving me this information for 30 minutes! WAIT...IT GETS BETTER!!! The Tier 2 CSR MANAGER agrees to a payoff amount...also to send written notice...that's WRITTEN NOTICE OF AGREEMENT FROM Capitol One on the "corrected payoff amount".

While I am there, Mr. ** pays off his accounts (2) IN FULL using CAPITOL ONE'S ONLINE SERVICE. I insist that we make numerous printouts. The balance read zero! The 2nd Tier CSR manager agrees to CLOSE THE ACCOUNT once the "agreed balance reaches zero". Mr. ** then checks his account online.

AND HERE IT IS, FOLKS! One day later, **'s account reads $700 more!!! NO NEW CHARGES, JUST $700+ IN SERVICE FEES! aaaAAARRRGGGHHH!!! Mr. ** is now contacting an attorney. We had recorded the call. **. Thank you for your support. Signed, Previously Ripped Off Capitol One Customer.

Overdue Account Handled Well
By -

Let me just say, I realize the only other post I have was an overdue account with SCANA, but in my defense, that was my roommate's account, and, hey, we're college students, so go suck a lemon if you want to judge me. I have moved at least six times since my senior year in high school, from mom's to dad's, back to mom's, to campus, to mom's, to campus, to a friend's, to my current apartment; so I have mail going everywhere on God's green earth.

My bank actually stopped sending out statements because it kept getting returned. I still have no idea where my Capital One bill is being sent to, which is fine because I do everything online. I have been paying my Capital One account on time, but fell short in November and December so let it go. In that time, I changed internet providers so my email changed, and I got a new debit card because I lost my old one.

Well with the change in emails, I no longer got the friendly monthly reminders my payment was due, and between work and school, it slipped my mind until last month (March), I logged on realized I hadn't paid it in a while. Of course, I had been charged fees, no problem, completely my fault. I thought I paid it, got a confirmation screen, but they had my old debit card on file so the charge never went through. Actually, now, they don't let you pay with cards at all, it has been an e-check.

Anyway, today, get a call from a bill collector because the account is now over 4 months delinquent. They want a payment right, in total, of $560, which over $100 more than what my account is showing. So I logged into my account, because I'm still under the impression I paid the bill last month, and Capital One has their own number posted, not the bill collectors.

I call them, explain, they get rid of the extra $100, I pay $200, tell them when I can pay the rest and agree no overdue or over limit fees. The whole process was quick and painless, everyone was extremely nice. We changed my email and billing address so I won't forgot to pay in the future. The entire situation was just handled very well I thought. My only criticism would be that Capital One did not call me themselves before handing my account over to a collection agency.

They Won't Close My Account
By -

OHIO -- I recently called Capital One up to close my account. I had just transferred the balance to another card and wanted it closed. I had a positive balance on it so they told me it was closed and they would send me the balance which they did very soon after. 3 weeks later I'm doing bills and happen to look online only to find out the account is not closed. I call them up and they tell me at first they have no record of the account being closed. After telling them that I was looking at the check in my hand they sent me after they closed the account they suddenly found where I had closed the account.

They then explained that I owed interest on the account and that when this interest posted it opened up my account again. In addition a yearly renewal fee from a website service also showed up. I told them that I did not want anything to be allowed to be charged to this card and they told me that the account would be closed 30 days after I paid the interest charge plus the website charge. So what happens if I pay the balance they show and 29 days later some other charge that I did not authorize hits the account.

According to them I have to dispute this and wait until it is cleared up then 30 days after that they will close the account. What if another charge comes 29 days after that which I don't authorize? You see it could be endless. Why can't they just close the stupid account to any future charges? I am thinking that I will call up and say the card is lost or stolen so they then would prevent any other charges going to it but that is so stupid that I have to go to that length to close the crummy card. Capital One never again!

Repeated Phone Calls

RAVENNA, OHIO -- I hope that everyone that takes the time to read my comment (review) and the other ones below will think long and hard before applying for a CC from Capital One. My husband has had an account with them for some time now and has never been late. For the first time in years he is past due by 7-8 days. Regardless if you have a grace period they will still call you. I have received 15 calls (caller ID) starting from 7 am to 9:30 pm Saturday and Sunday calls also.

When I can get to the phone, I have to try to understand who they are asking for (no one has spoken ENGLISH). I tell them that he is not home and try to take a message or help them understand that my husband has spoken with them and called in to set a payment date with them. We still have received calls regardless of what myself or my husband has told them. I asked to speak with a manager the last time they called which I will tell you, when they called they put me on hold and told me that I have a very important call, please hold the line. I told them that I will contact my attorney if the calls do not stop. She actually told me to go ahead and contact them.

Yes, I know he is late. Times are hard right now. But he has never been late, (other than this time) so if you plan on getting a card from them and cannot pay your bill 2 weeks before, hopefully you rethink signing up. Plus, once you do make a payment it will take them 2-3 weeks to apply it to your account. But they have no problem calling if you are 1 day past due. Hopefully you keep up with your checking account because if not they will overdraft and make you in the negative. This company is not worth the stress added to your every day life. Hopefully this helps. I wish we would have known this before, would have saved us a lot of 7 am calls.

Fraud Response, APR Change, Customer Service
By -

WASHINGTON -- This last weekend I was unfortunate enough to learn that my Capital One credit card had been compromised. However, that was after I tried to use it myself two times. It was declined and I was puzzled as to why that would, or could, even happen. In calling Capital One I was informed that THEY KNEW ABOUT IT over a week ago when fraudulent charges were hitting my account and the account was closed. THEY NEVER INFORMED ME VIA E-MAIL, MAIL OR BY TELEPHONE. It took over 25 minutes to get through the first time.

I spent over the weekend and today a total of 3 1/2 hours trying to get further information and verify exactly what was going on. Each person, from Marvin, Esther, Belic, Crystal, the names go on and on from the Philippines or India, or for that matter, it could have been Mars, kept putting me back into the cue for more waiting. I have been a long time customer of this company. Along with the non-informing issue, I get charged their annual fee which I suppose is to cover their non-service.

I then learn that my APR has been changed to 14.9%. The reason I got the card was that I was provided information that the 9.9 rate was for the life of this particular card otherwise I would not have gotten it in the first place. I usually pays 6.9 to 9.9%. So, I try to get that rectified as well. 3 1/2 hours into a black hole of people who say they are sorry and do nothing but throw you back into the cue again and again, you can understand why I will never do business with this company again!!! Stay away, far away from this company. Really bad company service, response, unethical practices. The list could go on.

Poor Customer Service, Ruthless Greed
By -

I fell for the creative TV advertising that Capital One does, telling everyone that they look out for consumers and protect you against fine print that robs you of money and rewards. That is complete bull! Three months after transferring a sizable amount to my new Capital One account, I received some extra money and decided to pay it off. I had already made my regular payment but decided to go ahead and transfer the entire amount due on my statement. Due to a bank error, my electronic transfer was refused. I was able to make the transfer again, a few days later, all well within the due date of the current bill. Capital One drilled me for a $35 returned check charge!

When I complained, they didn't care. They seemed eager to lose my business instead of try and do the right thing and not charge me for something that didn't cost them a dime. I immediately canceled my account and thought I was done. Well, I got another bill the next month, charging me $21.56 for 4 days interest! When I complained about that, they told me that just paying off the complete card balance was not enough. I needed to pay off the "Payoff Balance" to avoid further interest charges.

When I complained that my other cards offer a grace period when you pay your balance in full, the girl simply said that it was all in the "fine print" of my card member agreement - talk about false advertising! At that point I was very angry and tried to pay my bill right then and there, but they were going to charge me another fee, just to pay my bill by phone! So, I went online to pay my bill and couldn't find the "payoff balance." They conveniently keep that number some place you can't find it.

I opted to pay an extra 10% more than the $21.56 they said I owed to try to avoid getting hit for more bogus charges. I can only hope that they spend more than $50 paying someone to do the accounting on the $.50 credit I should have in my account. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't find some other bogus reason to bill me again. This is the kind of credit card that should be avoided at all cost. They trick you into using them, then trick you into paying outrageous fees that you can't get out of.

Changes amounts on Capitol One! HELP!
By -

TEXAS -- I've been living in a Crapitol One nightmare for several years. Back in 1998 I had a Capitol One card with a $200 credit limit. I got behind and couldn't pay. In 2001 Capitol one sends me something,Get a new Visa, transfer your Capitol one charge off of $800! Uh,$800??? I call Capitol one and say no way! My credit LIMIT was $200, but I will start paying off the one I owed $200. I still have the letter they sent to accept the offer to transfer the $800, unattached not signed or sent off.

Next month, I get a Capitol One card saying I've been approved! Huh??? I call and Capitol One says,"Yes, your charge off was transferred to that card" WHAT? With whose approval? I tell them send me proof. I didn't sign anything. In fact still have the letter here, unsigned and unsent! Capitol One would never send anything (I still have all the letters, not signed or sent approval/transfer letter).

So,now I have TWO Capitol One on my credit reports! The authorized card from 1999, charged off was $212 (NOT $800 Capitol One claims) and the UNAUTHORIZED CARD with another account number for $952.00!!! So,I dispute this with the credit agencies, explaining all the above. That I do NOT have a Capitol One card, nor authorized it and Capitol One refuses to answer. That the credit reporting agencies ask for proof of any/all signatures from me!

WEll the only response I get from the credit reporting companies Capitol One is changed from $952.00 to $520.00. Is it over? NO! Capitol One is again on my credit report a year later for $952.00!! And now, there's a collection agency for Capitol One saying I owe $1052.00! I have yet to figure out how a $212.00 charge off in 1999 turned into a $800.00 charge off as Capitol One claimed. Nor can I figure out how Capitol One can transfer the $800.00 they claim you owe to another card/account without your permission! ANYONE, please! Do you have any suggestions?
