IT TOOK CAP ONE NEARLY 3 MOS TO SEND ME A CREDIT FOR $556.80
By -

ENDICOTT, NEW YORK -- I purchased airline tickets from Hooters Air in November of 2005 and charged them to my Capital One credit card. I closed my Capital One credit card in January of 2006 after a year of disgust with the idiots in Customer Service. In March of 2006, two weeks before our scheduled trip, Hooters Air cancelled our reservation. I pleaded with them to send me a check as a refund explaining that my credit card was closed and I was sure I'd never see $556.80 again if it was up to Capital One. Two people from Hooters Air called Capital One and verified the transmission and were assured that I would receive a check from them.

Sure enough, it's now the middle of May and I'm still haggling with Capital One. I've called dozens of times, each time having to repeat the story from scratch because you can never speak with the same person twice and these people are located all over the world. I've been lied to (promised the check was on it's way); put on hold forever; lost in their phone system and totally disconnected. This has happened over and over again. During my last call, I was connected to Utah at the "Investigative Solutions Department". I refused to be put "on hold" again and told the girl to simply put the phone down and asked her to go get a Manager or someone with authority to help me.

The Manager, who at first seem perturbed, recommended a 3-way conference with Hooters Air as a means of resolution. So the next day I set up a 3-way conference, but of course, even though the Manager had given me a phone number to that department, I had to deal with yet another person. Capital One told the Hooters Air person that the transmission of the credit was being "investigated". I said, "INVESTIGATED? WHAT ARE YOU INVESTIGATING?" Hooters Air supplied transmission numbers and names of people they had previously spoken with and of course, there was no record of that with Capital One... what a surprise.

I'm now waiting for a call-back from the Manager at Capital One on the status that I'm sure I'll never receive. I'm at the end of my rope. I'm sure I'll have to go to the Attorney General of the State of New York and Virginia and this may very well result in a lawsuit. I will not back down to this bunch of thieves!!!

Capital One Changed My 7.9% Fixed Rate CC to Variable 17.9%

On 7/5/13 I called Capital One to explore if I could reduce my 7.9% fixed interest rate credit card only to learn my Capital One credit card interest rate had been changed to a variable interest rate of 17.9% without my consent. I have held my Capital One credit card since 2003 and have great credit. When I asked why I had never been notified, and that I never consented to a change in terms, I was told Capital One "mailed" me a letter notifying me of the change. When I shared I never received this information, ** (the account supervisor) stated Capital One reserves the right at any time to modify the terms of a written contract.

I am very concerned with this arbitrary practice and have decided to no longer use my Capital One credit card. While I do not like posting negative comments online, I do believe it necessary to educate others so they are fully aware of organizational practices prior to signing contracts. If you have a Capital One credit card, please call customer service and inquire about your current interest rate. If you too have had your interest rate modified without your consent, discontinue using the card immediately.

Do not cancel the card as it may negatively impact your credit history depending on how long you have held the card. Given the length of my history with the card, I cannot cancel the card, but Capital One will no longer receive my business through my use of the card.

COLORADO -- This is the sorriest company I have ever dealt with. They added new charges after I closed the account and paid off their so called balance. They transferred a balance without my permission when I had merely called to ask questions about this procedure. Had all kinds of trouble getting that taken care of. I was hung up on several times. My bank tried to help. Same thing happened. She was hung up on too. Had 6 fraudulent charges that were never resolved. I paid them just to get rid of these Bimbos. Never again!! Would never recommend this outfit to anyone except an enemy.

I applied and was approved for a secured card with Capital One. I was so thrilled initially because my family was going to use this card for an upcoming trip (i.e. for car rentals, hotel stay, etc.) Because it was a secured card, I needed put down a security deposit which meant I needed to give them my bank account information to withdraw the funds. They withdrew the money in just a couple of days.

Let me make this story shorter. I got the card a month later. I called to activate the card, and I needed to be transferred to the "account specialists" (why do credit card companies tell this same lie when the representative is just unable to handle your account?). The new representative tells me that he needs to call my bank and verify that I'm really me. No problem... I'm waiting. My bank deny's his request, so he comes back and tells me that I need to fax a bank statement with my name on it. I immediately say no because I've been a victim of identity theft, so there's no way I'm faxing that information at all.

He transfers me to another "account specialist", and I explain the same thing to him. He then closes the account and tells me that I won't get my money back for two weeks. Excuse me? It only took you two days to get it in the first place. Why can't I get my money back just as quickly as you got it?

Capital One No Hassle Rewards Card
By -

I wanted to inform others about my experience with my Capital One Rewards Hassle card. I paid the card off last fall resulting in a $0 balance. Capital one charges $5 per month to have the card... I forgot about the $5 dollar charge assuming it was paid off. I missed a payment on the 5 dollar balance and received a $39 late fee... In addition THEY PENALIZED ME 640 REWARD POINTS, taking these points from my reward point balance. So they penalize their customer twice, reward points along with the late fee. Too many hassles with this Card... DEFINITELY NOT a No Hassle Card.

Capital One HC Finance Chooses Charge-Off over Modified PAY-OFF

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- I called customer service today about my past due account. I have a problem with the unequivocal “NO” from the customer service representative. I asked to speak to someone else, a supervisor perhaps, and was simply transferred back into the queue for someone else to deal with me. For the record, I called to ask if the loan could be modified. I asked if the monthly payment could be reduced since I lost my job and my husband has had to take a 20% cut in pay. The representative said “no”!

I sent a letter to the Utah address on my statement. Their response was "sorry to hear"... Blah blah. "We regret that we are unable to help at this time." And go on to say "please call us to discuss how we can work together". Blah blah... Why should I bother calling again? There is a notice on this month's statement saying they are considering selling my account to a collection agency and charging it off. If they would lower the monthly payments and extend the payoff time, they could collect more interest and I could pay off the loan, but they won't even negotiate.

I had my home mortgage loan modified, my car loan modified, a construction loan modified, all with other lenders. Capital One simply refuses any assistance to the consumer. I want to pay the loan, they just refuse to make it possible for me to do that. They would rather ruin my credit by charging it off and turning me off to obnoxious collectors to be harassed on a daily basis. Shame on you Capital One Healthcare Finance. Your behavior is truly egregious.

Money Grabbing Pigs

PENNSYLVANIA -- Please people do not sign up for or use this card. The card is most definitely not hassle free. I had been a customer for 10 years. I never had a late payment, all payments were made on time without issue. In November 08 my interest rate went from 7.9% to 11.9%. Last week 2/09 I got a notice my rate was being raised to 17.9%. Keep in mind, I have been a loyal customer with no late issues. I called to see if they could help me out and lower my rate back to where it was so I would not have to transfer my account balance. I was told I would need to call back on Monday. I transferred my balance.

When I called to cancel my account the Indian gentleman told me this will negatively affect my credit report. It took 45 minutes to get this account cancelled. I asked the Indian fellow to please take my name off of anything to do with Capital One and to not ever contact me again. I can't believe we are bailing these banks out. They outsource jobs to India and gouge their loyal customers. A smile will come across my face when this bank fails.

Closing an Account With Capital One Credit Card
By -

ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND -- I closed my account with Capital One in November '07 and thought it was off the books. I destroyed my card and all balances had been paid. Evidently "closing" to Capital One means "inactive." The short story is anyone could use my card number to put charges on a "closed" account since Capital One does not verify information to reactivate a closed account.

Somehow my "closed" account was charged to pay my Verizon phone bill. I pay my phone bill online at Verizon. After speaking to Verizon the only way this could have happened was to unknowingly select debit payment instead of a payment from my checking account. But how did my account information to charge the card get put into Verizon bill payment process? I entered no card information and have only my checking account designated to pay my phone bill. Secondly I hate these people so much I would never use Capital One again. And furthermore why pay an annual fee when most cards do not charge one.

Why is Capital One so special except in regards to being the sneakiest company doing card business? My daughter actually got a piece of paper saying they had closed her account. Is her account really closed or just inactive? I guess I will go ask for a piece of paper saying closed but does that mean anything? WARNING: DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS COMPANY. Do All Credit Card Companies place accounts on an inactive status when we think it is closed and cannot be opened again especially without proper authorization? Closed should be final not just inactive.

Capital One Run-around
By -

I have been trying to get Capital One Direct Banking to release funds I have in a money market account. Each time I have called, the person tells me that the order to release the funds has been received and that my funds should be transferred to my bank account in two to five days. The funds, however, are NEVER transferred. I have talked to numerous people including account supervisors. Each time I am given a different excuse as to why the funds have not been transferred.

Today when I called I was told that my account had been restricted. When I asked why, the account supervisor told me it is because two previous addresses needed to be verified. I told her that the previous addresses had been verified when I opened the account. She admitted that this was true and informed me that she was only now lifting the freeze on my account.

Each time it has been a different excuse. I'm not sure if I will EVER get the funds from my Capital One money market account or not. Capital One has refused each and every time to provide me with a confirmation number or verification number to confirm that the funds would be transferred. They have each time refused to tell me when I might expect to receive the transfer (except to say "2 to 5 days," which has always been untrue).

I will never put another penny into Capital One. I am planning on moving all my funds to a local financial institution where I can walk in and visit with a professional face to face. Anybody have any ideas on how to get Capital One to release my money?
