MIDLOTHIAN, VIRGINIA -- 1st visit - I brought my wife for breakfast. We were both served runny eggs (hers were sunny-side up and mine were scrambled). 2nd visit - My wife brought a coworker for lunch. The coworker got food poisoning and puked before she could even leave. 3rd visit - Last chance! My wife and I ordered the turkey and stuffing from the new "Hobbit" menu. The turkey and gravy were served CHILLED! Honestly, the cranberry sauce was warmer. I thought it was illegal to serve meat that hadn't been freshly cooked to a temperature high enough to kill Salmonella. We won't return!

Terrible Experience

SOUTH CAROLINA -- We went to eat at 800 South Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach. First, my niece's eggs were supposed to be over-easy, they were hard. When we sent them back they were barely different. We asked to just take that meal off the bill. The waitress said she would send the manager over but he never came. Finally when we got a refill on soda and notice, I said a refill. I asked about the store home number or any contact info.

So while we are waiting we watched a girl getting her hair and makeup done behind the wall where the drinks are fixed. Then they all moved to the register to ring up our bill which was $51.04 and one of the girls was still standing there stroking another waitress' hair. By this time the manager I think her name was ** came over and was very, very nice and said she would take care of the problem. But one can only hope.

CYPRESS, TEXAS -- I visited Denny's in Cypress TX 77429 at the corner of HWY 290 and Spring Cypress Rd at 06:00 am. The waiter dropped the menu in front of me without saying anything. After five minutes he was just standing about 5 feet from me and I said, "I am ready to order." He asked, "What do you want?" I asked if there was some type of problem. He said in a very loud voice, "Yes there is," and started walking towards me saying something like every damn week -- I stood up and backed out the door feeling very threatened. The waiter's name is **. He acted like he wanted to get into a fight!!!! I didn't want to fight. The next time I will call the police!!!

Rude Manager

NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA -- I approached the register to pay my tab (Date 07-25-2012, 2:18 pm). Usually I am greeted by an employee taking my payment, always pleasant and courteous. In this case the manager (**), who had never before taken my payment, simply stared at me without saying a word. Annoyed by this discourtesy, I just stared back at him for a few seconds, then I said to him, "Do you speak?" Then he did.

When I presented my VISA card, he asked for ID. I explained that I had recently lost my billfold with ID. I had received the replacement VISA card but no other replacement cards yet. He insisted that he must have ID. (My VISA card is for debit, not credit. On that date there was slightly under $2,000 in my checking account. The amount of my check was $19.65). I told him that I, with a friend, routinely patronize this store about twice a week and have done so for at least three months. And that I had never been asked for ID!

Still the manager balked, directing my attention to a sign near the register stating that ID will be solicited under certain conditions. I repeated that in approximately 24 previous meals at this store over the last three months, never once had the acting cashier ever asked for ID, nor directed my attention to the sign. I replied, of course, that in any event there was firmly established precedent for my not needing to present ID. I needed a haircut; maybe that's what offended him.

Smoking

PORTAGE, INDIANA -- We are very frequent customers at Denny's in Portage, IN. The smoking section is in the far corner of the building but as soon as you come in the doors, you are overcome by the smell of smoke. We sit in the very front of the restaurant by the door and by the time we leave, I am having a hard time breathing and my clothes reek of cigarette smoke. Please, please get with the program and make your facilities all non smoking. I know smokers can get through one meal without a cigarette. They do it all the time at other restaurants.

Good vs Poor Customer Service
By -

I have eaten at several Denny's restaurants in and around the San Gabriel Valley. It is my estimate that I get excellent service 80% of the time. It is that 20% of poor service that bothers me. With more than 30 years in the restaurant business, I can confidently state that this is the fault of the person with the franchise. What the owner of the store tells the general manager how to operate the restaurant is how the restaurant is operated. This is a corporate problem. Denny's corporation does not look after their 1500 stores with any degree of efficiency.

Each store's customer service and cleanliness will depend upon the franchisee. A note: I had a friend that worked briefly at the Denny's in Big Bear a few years and she told me that an employee was injured and rather than allow the employee to receive Worker's Compensation, the worker was fired. The General manager (with the franchisee's approval) was hiring illegal aliens with false identification. Perhaps this restaurant continues this practice and maybe an official agency should look into this.

Unless you are desperate don't go there!

FAIRPORT, NEW YORK -- Went to breakfast at Denny's in Perinton Hills Mall today October 23rd at 11am this morning. We were a party of four. There were a great many people there so we were prepared to be patient with our order. We would have had to have the patience of Job, however as it took 1 hour and twenty minutes to receive our order. When it did come, we were ready to throw rose petals at the server's feet. He had repeatedly assured us that the order would be filled soon. Apparently the cook staff simply could not handle the volume of orders placed at that hour of the morning.

To add insult to injury, when we received our food, it was cold and mine was inedible. We were asked if we would like something else but not wanting to spend the rest of the day there, I declined. They did remove my meal (if you could call it that) from the bill. The manager was very solicitous but apparently does not know how to hire dependable employees as he admitted there was trouble in the kitchen. So unless you like cold coffee and have lots of leisure time to waste, DO NOT BOTHER with this restaurant during peak times. It will be both a waste of time and money!

End of World Restaurant Service...
By -

CAMPBELL, CALIFORNIA -- This has been the second worse service I've ever had at a restaurant of any kind. The other "bad" experience was about a month ago at this same location. How can someone seat you and wait an hour to take the order? Ya, I've got a laptop PC with me (using it now to write this) and I look like I'm entertained, but do they not want to make any money?

Next I flag down a waitress and order onion rings. Twenty-five minutes later a different waitress comes over to verify what I ordered so she can bring it to me. She just "wanted to be sure the rings were mine". Duh! Next I order a "Allnighter Sampler" plate. It takes forever to get to me and it is pure crap. Nothing else to say - "PURE CRAP." Well these are the kind of things that prove we've got to be nearing the freaking end of the world. I will not tip here tonight at all. I shouldn't even have to pay.

One of the worst dives formerly a family restaurant
By -

MOUNT VERNON, WASHINGTON -- I took my family there about a year ago and everything looked and tasted fine. It was kind of late but the service was OK. Then we tried it again last weekend. The parking lot was trashed with cigarette butts and floating garbage. But it was dark, and I didn't expect anyone to go out and clean at night. There were 3 or 4 workers outside smoking, and that is what it takes to run night shift in the valley.

We could believe we were asked to pick a seat, then realize most of the tables were dirty or had dishes and glasses. There wasn't much of a selection. We asked to sit where there a lot of clean tables, but were asked to wait while a table was cleaned. Then our waitress sat us and left us for rolling silverware and talking with the guys at the counter instead of cleaning tables or getting us silverware or water. She served us with a smile when she took our order, and we got our drinks pretty quickly.

But that was the last we saw of her ‘til after we had our food mostly eaten. She came back smelling of cigarettes and sweat, and asked us to pay our bill. The bathrooms are just as rude. We filled out comment cards, but then we heard similar stories from friends and coworkers. We all like the menu, but Shari's is always open just a couple miles away. And the service don't smell like cigarettes and drugs.

Wrong Order

OREGON -- I had an order to go and it was a special for $5.99 and was told I could order two sides so one was ham and the other fruit and when I got there to pick up my order it was $7.49. The waitress neglected to tell me that fruit was extra but led me to believe it was included in the price. The next thing was I left and went back to work and I ordered eggs over medium and ended up with scrambled eggs over medium which was hard. They told me I could come back but I can't leave work to return a breakfast when I left already.
