Dessert at Denny's
By -

CALIFORNIA -- Tonight my friend and I decided to go to Denny's for dessert after catching a late showing of a movie. When we walked in, the restaurant smelled somewhat rotten, but I dismissed the odor, and we were seated. When the waiter came, my friend ordered apple pie a la mode, and I ordered carrot cake. It took a long time for us to get our dessert considering that we didn't order anything that needed to be cooked. When our desserts finally came, my friend's apple pie was cold, so we asked them if they would please warm it up. The waiter looked confused as if he didn't know what we were talking about, and we had to repeat the request for him to understand.

When he finally returned with the warmed up pie, it appeared that they had left the ice cream on the dish while warming it, because it was mostly melted. Also the pie smelled awful as if there was something wrong with it. My friend offered me a bite, so I gingerly tried it. It tasted as if the apples were fermented if not rotten. That's when my friend spotted a huge glob of mold on the pie, and we were immediately repulsed! My friend asked to speak to the manager. Although the manager was very nice about it and comped our desserts, it was truly a disgusting experience, and I don't think I will feel good about eating dessert at Denny's again in the future!

Denny's Racial Discrimination

HACHIOJI, JAPAN -- It's payday! Everybody's excited to eat breakfast, for a treat, after a night shift work. Denny's has always been the place where me and my friends highly prefer to dine since its an English restaurant, and as foreigner's from a country like Japan, English food's suits our taste! Yes, the food is great! Except when I the spoiled rice was served to me the other day, which I didn't complain to the management and PLUS the very rude racist staffs that have.

Staffs should and must be at all time's courteous to customers. They should never scold or raise their voices when customers clarify for orders! And like Tokyo, where foreigners and tourists are not rare, staff must be polite and patient and never rude!

I am very upset for my pre-loved restaurant hires ill-attitude staffs! This just didn't happen once but as often we visit place and whenever other foreigner's visits too! If their restaurant is exclusive only for Japanese and never to foreigners we would be glad if they post a sign: EXCLUSIVE FOR JAPANESE NEVER TO FOREIGNERS! I am optimistic that my concern reaches the management to reprimand their employees. Location: Denny's Restaurant, Tokyo To, Hachioji City, Japan. Contact number: 042-645-6656

Manager Being Racist
By -

NEW YORK -- On May 6, 2009 my mother wanted to go to Denny's because they are the only ones that have the coconut creme pie. We went there, we ate and then I ordered the coconut pie to go and stated that I would pay separate for it. Meanwhile my mother gives the waitress her credit card and I was standing at the counter waiting for the coconut pie when asked by the Manager did I want the COLORED One. I stated "What does that mean?". I may not look as old as she thought I was but I remember the racism that was a problem with Denny's in the 80's and in the southern states.

This is free America and I should not go into a restaurant and get these types of remarks, my money spends just like everyone else. Further they charged my mother for the same pie that I was paying for. Please help me with, I will be forwarding to Albany NAACP President, Anne Pope, Brooklyn Chapter President, Karen Boynkin Towns and to Hazel Dukes for a response and direction to take this matter. But something has to happen and I am registered voter with rights.

"Dining" at Denny's
By -

COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA -- As a long-time Denny's frequenter I long for yesteryear. In my area Denny's is mainly a "Latino" run enterprise. From the moment one enters one is under pressure to upgrade his/her order or change the order to a "meal." If one orders part of a meal, i.e. Grand Slam you will find that you are billed for the entire meal. While one is ordering the "Latino" waiter will be prompting you to upgrade.

Some Denny's in my area attempt to create a "dining out" air complete with white jacketed waiters all working one for an undeserved tip. What was once an easy-in-easy-out pleasant experience is an under-assault by waiters all trying to control the customer. Very un-Denny's and not at all pleasant. My opinion for what it is or is not worth. I now avoid Denny's.

Complaint

EDGEWOOD, MARYLAND -- I have been to Denny's in Edgewood MD many times. My last two visits were unacceptable. We were to have the same waitress twice. The first time I said, "Well, maybe it is her first week." I have waitressed so I do understand that things happen. However, the first time, she was never to return to our table, until the bill.

Today, she left our food at the counter and when it got to us it was cold. She was busy talking to the couple who brought a new baby in, and filling the ice, I saw many people, including managers standing around that could have done that, the restaurant was NOT that busy. My point is, this girl needs to get a clue on how to waitress. Her name is ** and she works in Edgewood at that Denny's.

Corrected Mistakes Quickly
By -

LACEY, WASHINGTON -- The night before last, my wife and I ate at the Denny's at Martin Way and College, in Lacey, WA. I ordered the bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich on sourdough with hash browns. When the order came to the table, I had fries and the sandwich was on white bread. I called the mistake to the attention of the server, and noticed he was the manager.

He immediately got me a hot fresh order of hash browns, and I had already started eating the white bread sandwich, because I was very hungry. He brought me a fresh BLT in a takeout container at no charge. I can't understand these people who get a bad meal, never say anything to anyone about it and expect the service to improve. People make mistakes, that is why they put erasers on pencils. Most places, if you call a mistake to their attention, they will make it right. They are in business, if they don't please customers or respond to problem, they lose business. Kudos to the staff of the Lacey Denny's!

Denny's Made My Morning
By -

GALVESTON, TEXAS -- I went for a morning stroll when I decided to get some breakfast at Denny's. When I made my entrance, I was greeted by the only waitress on duty. Though she had her hands full -- literally and figuratively, she managed to see me a number of times. I knew my time at the eatery was going to be enjoyable when she gave me an extra glass of OJ when I asked for a refill. I ordered the Meat Lover's Scrambler, which came real quick and filled me up. I left her a solid tip for a job well done.

Food and Service at Denny's Restaurant in Show Low, AZ

SHOW LOW, ARIZONA -- We arrived with our grandchildren at 3:45 and an hour later our food had not arrived - the kids finally received their food - the wrong food, very cold. We then waited another 40 minutes for the rest of the food to arrive. Again, wrong food - cold, burnt, inedible and finally we went up front to complain and the 'manager' said he lost his cook and had to fill in himself, but didn't know how to cook!! His waitress was training 2 new guys and doing her best to placate other customers - knowing nothing would really help the situation. My food was so cold it wouldn't melt soft butter (I tried that). The manager tried blaming it all on his help on 'the mountain' saying no one wanted to work.

Customer Satisfaction

I recently went to Denny's for a birthday breakfast using my American Express gift card... We ordered two senior breakfasts and were surprised to find that we were served full portions. When we questioned it we were told that the kitchen made a mistake and we would only be charged the senior price. When I went to pay with the gift card, the register wouldn't accept it and after fighting with the card for 10 minutes the manager on duty, Bruce, said, "this one's on us, we see you in here all the time"... My thanks to Bruce and Denny's... we will continue to patronize his restaurant with pleasure (and not use American Express).

Denny's Is Anti-Smoking
By -

NOVI, MICHIGAN -- Thanksgiving with no family around was bad enough. When I went to Denny's Restaurant this year, the 'smoke sucker' - the waitress' name for it - was so loud that I couldn't hear the music overhead and had a hard time hearing the waitress. In addition to sucking the smoke out, it also sucked the heat out. Twice I asked for a whole new cup of coffee because mine was almost refrigerator temperature. I kept my jacket covering my legs because it was so cold. The cooks did a FABULOUS job on the food, and it arrived before I was finished with my salad.

Unfortunately this meant it also got cold before I finished my salad. The cheesecake managed to survive the chill beautifully. Management refused to turn down the smoke sucker, and mentioned that they may be going non-smoking soon. My reaction to this is I hope all the smokers quit anyway - then all the non-smokers will have to pay those lost taxes the smokers have been carrying all these years.
