Dishonest Business Practices

HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT -- When I booked my premium rental car online I was given an estimate of $230 for a passenger car. Arriving at the airport I was offered a "free upgrade" to an SUV, which I accepted. The statement had an estimate of over $350 dollars which I questioned and was told "that is only an estimate of the cost-we are giving you the free upgrade." The agent had me sign an initial several times and on one paper the word "free upgrade" was handwritten and circled.

When I returned the car the upgrade was charged and the agent refused to call the manager when I asked. I was told that the manager was not in the office that day. There were three other customers with the same problem. When we demanded a manager one finally responded and the agent denied having told us that no manager was available. The manager was just as unwilling to help us and even threatened to call security although no one had raised voices or used intimidating language or behavior. Blatant and unapologetic dishonest business practices all the way around.

Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) tyingā€¸
By -

On Apr 08, 2011 I rented one of their cars. Although the online reservation total charges were $38.63, I was actually charged $62.72 because I was forced to accept and buy an undesired service in order to rent the car: their employee told me that if I did not accept to buy the Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) they were not going to rent me the car. This is totally unaccepted and is also ILLEGAL, as this business practice violates the Sherman Antitrust Act and Section 3 of the Clayton Act. This is legally called tying. I will never rent from E-Z Rent-A-Car.

Very Good Experience With E-Z Rent A Car
By -

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- I had to rent several cars in Orlando over the weekend of March 18th for my wedding and several family members that were coming from out of town (we had a destination wedding at Disney). ** at the E-Z rent a car office at the Orlando airport was so awesome in the planning and execution! He worked with me on the various types of cars for each of the different families coming in, their schedule and their budgets. All of the cars were ready and waiting when they all got into town. The cars were clean. The service was quick and easy. And most importantly the price was right!

THANK YOU E-Z Rent A Car for your excellent service. You took one of my many stresses of my weekend away & everyone had a fab weekend and vacation!

EZ... Not Easy At All!!
By -

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- EZ Car Rental is a joke. I was at LAX with a reservation for a car. When I arrived at the car rental location, there were 6 customers ahead of me and no cars available, even though we all had reservations. All they said was this happens about once a month. Everyone was furious.

After waiting an hour and a half, with still 5 customers ahead of me, I gave up. I have emailed the company several times, and left messages several times, with no response whatsoever. I have never seen such a irresponsible, mess of a company. I will never do business with them again, and I will make sure I let as many people as I can know how they conduct business.

Cheaper Is Not Always Better

FT. LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- We were going to rent from Enterprise but E-Z talked us into renting from them (their booth is next door to Enterprise at the Ft. Lauderdale, FL airport). Boy, that was the biggest mistake of our vacation. My husband had to take my son to the emergency room during our vacation and left the keys at the hospital, no one was able to find them. Of course, E-Z has no extra sets of keys. We were more than willing to pay for a set but it has been a nightmare and 5 days later we are still dealing with them.

No locksmith could make a key for the Toyota van we rented so E-Z told us we would have to tow it to a Toyota Dealer. Guess what E-Z? They won't tow a vehicle or make a key for a vehicle that you don't own. They were asking us to do the impossible. EZ told us they wouldn't charge us for anything else until the entire thing was resolved and they would call us. When we got home and checked our on-line bank account they had withdrawn $200 out of our account without saying a word. NEVER AGAIN.

Scam

Came to USA via LAX for Xmas and chose this car rental co (first time). The price quoted in England was $292 for 18 days. When I collected my car a Hyundai Accent I stated I only needed the very basic insurance when asked ie. Minimum. I have been coming to the States for several years and have used National, Alamo etc and I know the ball park price I pay. The guy behind the counter said fine and on my way I went. When I returned the car 18 days later the bill was $998 They say I agreed to full insurance cover. I went ballistic! But had to catch my plane. They had blindsided me and my credit card went missing. My reissued credit card never reached me and $12000 has been taken out of my account.

Scam at EZ Cancun

CANCUN MEXICO -- I feel scammed. I booked online for a price in Orbitz, which gave me a slight advantage in price VS EZ's webpage. At EZ's webpage you can see that the basic insurance is included in the total price, so I assumed that it would be included in Orbitz's plan (which was only a total of $10 less than directly with EZ), and they mentioned nothing about additional insurance.

When I got to the car rental office, they told me they would charge me with a basic insurance and I told them that if it was not included in the booked price I did not want it. So they told me "No problem," gave me my total, offered me an upgrade for a total of $10, which I accepted, and they read my total charges: $137. They printed all the paperwork and told me to sign here, here and there. When I came back after using the car and I checked on the total amount they charged I saw something wrong, they charged me around $70 dollars extra for insurance.

They played with me, telling me to my face one amount and charging me another. It was my fault not to review each condition in the papers they gave me to sign, but they lied to me and I just want others to know you can't trust them. They will trick you so you think it is one thing you are paying when they are giving you something else to sign. Their driver, who took me back to the airport, told me this happens all the time, and that customers go back very frustrated. Please check what they give you to sign and don't trust them.

Good experience

TAMPA, FLORIDA -- I had a great experience at E-Z Rent a Car at Tampa. I found them through Orbitz and they were the best deal. I had just come from Payless Rent-a-Car down the street and had a horrible time after they had lied to me and tried to charge me extra money. E-Z Rent a Car on the other hand was great. They gave me the car at the price they quoted me.

They offered me the extras as "options" and didn't force it on me. They were straightforward and answered my questions honestly. I had a misunderstanding with the contract, and the manager Daryl got back to me right away and apologized for any inconvenience. I had a great experience with E-Z Rent a Car and will definitely use them again in the future.

Resolution Update 04/21/2010:

This was never a complaint. I wanted to actually write a good review for once.

Never Rent From E-Z Rent a Car
By -

Rented from E-Z out of Orlando in December 2009. Booked it online at their website. There were lots of hidden fees. Mandatory insurance is required to be purchased. They don't tell you until keys are in hand. Service is god awful. Representatives are rude and are only concerned about what they can charge you.

Also, I filled up my tank yet when I returned the car and they still charged me for gas. Car was crummy and gross with over 35,000 miles on it. Don't try to save a few bucks like I did initially. In the end, it will cost you. Paid almost $60 for a one day rental. You are much better off staying with one of national chain companies like Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, Budget or National.

Made Me Pay for Damage That Was Not Done by Me
By -

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- AVOID doing business with this company. They are the WORST OF THE WORST!!! They gave me a huge hassle about some damage on a car I rented. Damage that I knew for a fact I did not do. (The car was covered with dents from front to back). They forced me to pay for this damage that someone else did. Needless to say, it ruined my vacation!! This company are out to get as much money as they can from their customers. Don't be fooled by their so called "LOW RATES". This company is the SCUM of the car rental industry. Totally avoid them!!! They should be forced OUT OF BUSINESS!!!
