Best Laptop Hands Down
By -

CANON CITY, COLORADO -- I blew my dell up, and need a new computer for school. So I headed down to my local Office Depot. There I found the best laptop I have ever owned. Not only does this thing run everything beautifully fast and efficiently, it has more storage then any other computer I have ever owned. Plus it is Pink, which ultimately sealed the deal at the store. Not to mention I only paid 549$!!! I am so in love with this computer, I am a college student so my computer is my life. My computer is with me 24/7. It is so light and easy to manage. The battery leaves a little to be desired, but it is not that big of a deal to have it plugged in.

So far I have only had two problems with this computer, one is my fault because I dropped it. The second though is the split hard drive. The model I bought has two 111 gig hard drives, which is kind of a pain, but it is something that is a lot more manageable then having to deal with dell. Oh yeah and here is the best part of owning a Gateway computer, when I called tech support, I GOT TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE WHO SPOKE ENGLISH!!!!!!! OMG!!! So Gateway Please please keep up all the good work!!!

Gateway Notebook Broken Again

Do not buy a Gateway laptop... This computer has been nothing but trouble. It is now in need of its 3rd repair in less than 16 months. The last time Gateway kept the laptop for over 1 month! It has the same problem as the last repair. The first repair was handled by a local tech guy, but the second time around he suggested I send it to Gateway. It is now out of warranty with the same problem it has had since purchase. This laptop is a lemon. The company should honor its warranty for its repair, when the same problem occurs again and again.

Gateway Doesn't Honor Warranty.

LIVINGSTON, NEW JERSEY -- I bought a laptop for my small business from Gateway. I have a very limited budget and Gateway was recommended to me for their competitive pricing. I bought a 3-year warranty from Gateway and when I just had an issue with the power source called to have my laptop repaired and was told that my warranty was sold to a company called MPC who has filed Chapter 11 and is not honoring my warranty. My laptop is useless and Gateway does not stand behind their product. This practice should be against the law and a lawsuit should be filed against Gateway.

Don't Buy Gateway

MONTREAL -- An all-around terrible computer experience. CD/DVD drive and router drive never worked properly and system performance/speed slowed down considerably after the one-year mark.

To top it all off, I recently had to reinstall Windows XP and when I did, I got the most inane problem regarding my audio drive. When I contacted Gateway to find out which drive update to download from their website (among thousands), I was told the operator couldn't provide that information because my computer was no longer under warranty.

All I needed was the name of the driver, I pleaded with the Gateway representative and then she said if I wanted they could put me through to their pay customer support line ($60 for half an hour's service). I reminded her that all I needed was the name of the driver to download and she told me there was nothing they could do.

Took my laptop to a computer shop the next day and had the problem fixed for $15 and a total 10 minutes work by the guy behind the counter. Long story short, never buying a Gateway again and neither should you.

Laptop Crashing
By -

LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS -- I have 2 laptops that were purchased no more than 15 months ago, and both of them crashed. I used one of them that morning and came back 8 hours later, the laptop would not turn on. Then a month later, it happen to my brother as well.

What kind of laptop do you make? You pay a good amount of money to get a so called good laptop and less than 2 years the laptop crashed. BS! I called customer service for Gateway and they said they cannot do anything, it's past the initial period of warranty/service. BS again. I will never buy a Gateway again, and I have mention that to others that I know who look for Laptops. We own business and we own many computers and laptops. Getting the word spread about Gateway is easy. Which I tend to do?

Gateway Notebook

NEW YORK -- My family purchased a new Gateway notebook in Dec. 07. Since then we have gone through 4 new hard drives and a motherboard. I had just gotten the computer back thinking everything would finally be OK and the charger wouldn't charge so again I had to send it back for repair. I would never ever get a Gateway product again and I tell everyone who will listen just how horrible they are... P.S. When I asked for a new computer I was told I could only get a refurbished one if level 2 (manager) approved it. Shame on you, Gateway.

Gateway Laptop/Customer Service Sucks!
By -

My battery went bad within 2 yrs. My hard drive failed within 3 years. I replaced the hard drive and discovered that the "system disk" they gave me did not include all of the drivers required. I contacted them and was forced to pay $35 dollars to order a disk that had ALL the drivers required. 6 weeks later still no disk. I tried to contact them via the customer service # provided in my order confirmation e-mail. Good luck navigating your way past that piece of crap computer.

Finally, I got someone who gave me a different number. Finally, I got someone at that number who gave me a different number. Now I am on hold on the third number for about an hour while I am writing this. I will not be buying Gateway again.

Gateway Laptops Are A Ripoff
By -

SOUTH BAY, CALIFORNIA -- I bought a Gateway laptop in February 2007 for $800. 4 months later, the noisy CD drive stopped reading CD's and DVD's. Then the power cord also stopped charging the laptop. I had to jump through SEVERAL hoops to get this taken care of. First, Gateway refused to help, saying that since I bought it from Office Depot, I had to get their help. NO, "Office Depot" said "Gateway" was actually responsible within the product's one year manufacturer's warranty. Again, back to Gateway. EVENTUALLY, they did send me parts.

Fast-forward to one year later -- the power outlet in the rear has come loose and will not charge unless you wiggle it to get a connection, and the CD/DVD drive does not read a damn thing AGAIN. Gateway does NOT build their products to last - hence a one year warranty. They KNOW it's a piece of crap, and will fail, so you will just end up purchasing a new one. Right.

I will NEVER EVER buy anything whatsoever from this company, and I would hope that whoever is thinking about purchasing their products, has done a search, and come upon this review for Gateway laptops. (Hope that wording results in a search hit.) In summation DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM GATEWAY, or you will be very VERY sorry!

Laptop Problem & Customer Service
By -

I will never buy a Gateway again and urge anyone reading to consider other options! I bought a laptop about a year and a half ago. Warranty was effective for a year, and 2 weeks after it expired, my laptop started having problems. Gateway charged me to send it in to them, and got it back and it didn't work. This continued for SIX MONTHS, after sending it in 4 times to be serviced, and they still couldn't figure out what was wrong. Each time I sent it in I was getting more and more frustrated, and the customer service people kept saying company policy was after 5 times it would be replaced for me.

So after the 5th time it didn't work, they decided they wouldn't replace it because it was out of warranty, never mind that it was only a few weeks out of warranty, only a year old, and I paid a good amount of money to have it fixed. Try talking to a supervisor?? No such luck! They tell you "supervisors here don't take phone calls." So basically I was being forced to concede to the decision of a non supervisor and had no option to discuss my issue with anyone. So basically I paid $1000 for a piece of crap. And no solutions, no help. Please do not buy a Gateway!

Poor Customer Service and Warranty on Products
By -

BARBOURVILLE, KENTUCKY -- I purchased a Gateway (with windows vista) laptop for my son in December 2007 for Christmas. Well here we are 8 months later and we have only had about three or four weeks of use in between repairs. A couple of weeks after purchase, the hard drive crashed. Gone for repairs for three weeks. Received and used for about a week and cpu melts, had to wait a month on new cord. Then we get the cord and the motherboard goes out. Sent back for repair.

Received back after 2 months and I have had it back for two weeks and now hard drive is out again. I am so upset!!! I have called gateway and asked for a replacement and they are very rude. As you are aware they have a very loose warranty. They replace at their discretion. Which translates to NEVER. I refuse to send it back again, so I am going to get legal help now. The customer service department is rude and they have never solved anything for me personally with my computer.
