HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT -- I installed 400 sq feet of Morning Star Bamboo. Problems? I would say YES!! Examples: The floor has dents and gets scratched very easily (very soft). You will have gaps (the gaps will never go away.) Our gaps started appearing almost 1 year after install (up to 1/4 inch). My husband and I installed the floor (experienced).

We have installed several floors over the years and I this "bamboo" is the worst product I have ever used or seen. DO NOT BUY IT! If you really want bamboo, buy a better product elsewhere. When I am tired of looking at the gaps or when they get too large I will install oak flooring. I never should have tried to save money. It was a huge mistake. The product looked good and we wasted $1,000.00.

Company Response 02/19/2010:

We sell a large quantity of Bamboo flooring so if this was a common problem you would expect a large amoutn of complaints given the square footage we sell everyday. There are a couple of signs her that this is not a problem related to the quality of the product. Scratches and dents are driven by your use of the product which vary's from consumer to consumer and further impacted by the make up of your household. Wear and tear is not something most manufacturers warranty against becuase no manufacture has control over the care provided to any flooring product. The gaps are a sign of imbalance within the home whether it's interior temperature, relative humidity, or both. The product will shrink and expand based on these factors, so this is a site related issue unrelated to the manufacture of the product. You can expect some degree of gapping with seasonal changes and it would help if your invested in a hygrometer to determine whether a humidifier, or dehumidifier is needed to relax the gapping. If you install oak or any other wood flooring you can experience the same problem so the result is not to switch products, rather resolve the interior condition problem and enjoy the floor you already have.

Defective Flooring

BYRON, GEORGIA -- About four weeks ago we bought 13 boxes of African mahogany flooring. Not even 2 weeks after completion, we started seeing markings that resembled scuff marks or scratches. There are numerous of these markings. I immediately called LL and the salesman here in Macon, GA said he could not help us. I then sent LL an e-mail. That was 2 weeks ago, and no answer still yet. Tried to call customer service and no luck here. I highly do not recommend purchasing any kind of flooring from this company as their warranty is a scam and falsification and have been unwilling to help resolve our problem.

Company Response 02/05/2010:

Thank you for sharing this experience with us so we can help you. The situation you described is not a common customer experience and we would need more information to research where you called, and what email address you used for contact. Calls are generally answered within 30 seconds or less and emails returned within 24 hours (most often within 16 hours or less). If you have a product issue the store can help you, and Customer Care. We woudl like to know who you spoke with at the store becuase this is not how we handle our customer concerns. We stand behind all products we sell and we can help. Please contact LL Customer Care using the number on your invoice. You can also find us online through our website. It's unfortunate to hear you've had a problem and we're more than willing to help you. Please call us as soon as possible. I will alert the Call Center Agents, so we're looking for your call! Lumber Liquidators - Installation Policy - Is This Even Legal???
By -

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA -- Okay - so times are bad. Lumber Liquidators is opening a new store in our local area and is contacting possible Installers. My brother-in-law, who is a licensed flooring contractor, went to meet their On-Line Sales "Representative" and found out that their contract with local flooring people is less than desirable and very questionable??

Here's the deal: They said their pay scale is from $3.50 to $3.90 per sq. ft. for hardwood installation. That 15% goes directly to Lumber Liquidators and that 40% goes to this "Representative" - YES that's right - 40%... so as I see it - the Licensed Contractor - who takes on all the responsibility of installing what could be substandard product is getting paid 45% OR $1.57 per square foot. Hmmm... wonder what kind of contractors are they going to get? Or, are they getting someone who just works under someone else's license?

The deals just keep on happening - don't they? Hopefully, if people really think they are getting a deal from LL then beware of the wolf in sheep's clothing -- a hardwood floor is a very expensive product to leave to an installer who's getting paid slave wages.

Company Response 04/12/2010:

This is not how the installation program works and the claims made by the person posting concerns about LL are not true.

If you wish not to participate in the program, that's a choice, but posting inaccurate information is not helpful to consumers. The installation services come with a warranty, and some of the best local installers participate willingly with the program across the country and it's helped their businesses grow.

The market is competitive and consumers have choices and options. That's the American way!

Our organization does not mislead consumers and clearly discloses all terms and conditions, as does any provider of installation related services.

Lumber Liquidators Warranty is a TOTAL scam
By -

TOANO, VIRGINIA -- Spent almost 10,000 dollars on a prefinished floor by Lumber Liquidators. After only a week of normal use I noticed serious scratching. I took closer notice and marked over 100 scratches on these floors, many all the way through the finish! Three salesmen we spoke to before buying this product all answered the same questions we asked, "Will our dogs or children scratch this floor with their normal use?" They assured we would have no problem, explained how these floors are ideal with pets and even gave us promotional material that showed a large dog on this floor.

After my complaints, LL demanded pictures and samples. I sent those and they quickly sent me a letter concluding that things were not their fault and that their warranty didn't protect against scratching. I demanded an inspector whose conclusion was 'that the scratches were caused by our dog and the problems were site related NOT product related'. The inspector didn't even test any of the wood!

We have had hardwood floors and Pergo floors that last many years without a single scratch. I would strongly recommend against buying anything at Lumber Liquidators. The salesmen lie, the warranty is a sham, the products are junk. Don't waste your money!!!

Laminate and Engineered Flooring From Lumber Liquidators
By -

CLAYTON,, DELAWARE -- We purchased a laminate floor from Lumber Liquidators and had their installers come to install it. The installers came and said they were unable to install the flooring since it was defective and it had to be returned to the store. They recommended a more costly but in their opinion better one, a Schon engineered floor. We returned the first floor. When we picked up the Schon floor we noticed that the boxes looked beat. We asked the manager to come out and look. He looked quickly and said they were OK, they came from another store. When we got home we opened one box and found the flooring was very curved.

We called the store. They said the floor had to acclimate. We waited 5 days and it never changed. The ends curl up about 3". We spoke to their installer who said that we should return it. He felt it was defective. When we called the store, they said that this Schon floor was not longer available and we would have to pick out another floor. If we returned it without choosing a 3rd floor, we would have to pay a 20% restocking fee. How can a store restock defective flooring??? This is outrageous. They owe us an apology for selling us TWO defective floors!

Low-Grade Wood, Misleading Warranty, Terrible Customer Service - AVOID!
By -

Bought Supreme Bamboo with 15 yr finish warranty. The finish has worn off in 8 months. Sought the help of customer care to settle a claim. It literally took 3 months for them to resolve the issue and finally send a letter denying the claim. Lumber Liquidators was the worst customer experience I have ever had - and the ONLY online vendor that has prompting me to submit this type of e-review.

Bottom line, buy a nicer wood from another vendor if you want long lasting beauty and quality. Their price was great, but now I have a worn scratched, dented floor that will have to be removed and replaced much earlier than I'd ever imagined.

Purchasing products

LUTZ, FLORIDA -- I recently went into Lumber Liquidators to look for flooring. I wouldn't recommend using the company if you are not a professional installer. They will sell you anything and everything and when you find you don't need it they will charge a 20 percent restocking fee!!! I didn't bring the flooring back. I bought the moisture barrier which I didn't need and for three 5 gallons of the product they sold me for 169.99 each they restocked it and charged me 101.99!!!

The president of the company said he is standing behind his policy and wouldn't waive the fee. For bringing back unopened, unneeded product which the salesman said I would need in case of flooding. If it floods the floor would be ruined regardless of using the product. I called three different floor installers and they told me the guys saw a "sucker" walk in. In an email I was told my flooring wouldn't be warranted because I didn't use the product but since it was a sale from a bankrupt company it wasn't covered anyway! So just a lesson BUYER BEWARE!!!

NEVER BUY Prefinished Floor From Lumber Liquidators.
By -

ARLIGTON HTS, ILLINOIS -- I had my Bellawood maple floor installed in my new kitchen after recommendation from "specialists" at Lumber Liquidators in Arlington Hts IL. That floor should never be recommended for the kitchen! After a minor leak under the sink, water leaked to the floor. Finish has come off at the edges exposing raw wood. By the way: wood planks are beveled and are finished only on the top, making easy way for water to puddle between planks, seep under the finish and ruin it! I'm very disappointed with a quality of Bellawood.

They claim that finish is guaranteed for 50 years! MAYBE JUST TO LOOK AT IT! My old oak floor in the rest of the house had much more use and abuse and old finish is still fine. There was no mention that it should not be installed in the kitchen (where there are occasional spills).

After complaining, Lumber Liquidators has send someone to see the floor, but they refused any responsibility for the finish. NEVER BUY PREFINISHED FLOOR FROM LUMBER LIQUIDATORS!!! It cost me over $1200 just for the floor not counting installation.

"Unstable" Bamboo...Claim Denied

LANSING, MICHIGAN -- Well, to sum it up, I got screwed and they did not buy me dinner first! I purchased 1400 sq ft of bamboo in May 2013. I received the flooring in June. The flooring sat in my home acclimating for approximately 6 weeks. My licensed and experienced contractor (who works for LL) laid the flooring and it looked beautiful.

About 3-4 weeks later it began to gap AND cup, not just a little bit. I notified my contractor and the Lansing, MI store manager and they came together to inspect my floor. After humidity readings and looking at the floor, everyone agreed the floor looks terrible and there is "something very wrong" with my flooring. I was reassured that LL would stand behind their product and replace the flooring. Ha Ha Ha!!

I filled out the standard claim form and March 17th I received a denial letter regarding my claim stating it was instillation and or environmental issues. I also received a lovely Xerox copy of "Flooring 101" which I will be sure to forward to the Lansing, MI store to give to their installers. I am now in the process of the "licensed flooring inspector", which is not cheap, and a litigation attorney. This company is the worst. NEVER USE LUMBER LIQUIDATORS.

Very Poor Floor Install

LONGMONT, COLORADO -- On 09/12/2013 we purchased a bamboo floor from Lumber Liquidators for just under $2,000. It was installed by their installer on 10/18/2013 - 10/19/2013. We were told that it would be a one day install, which turned out to take two days after the installer left the first afternoon to go to another job. When he left the first day, I looked over what he had finished and found many chips, cracks and splinters in the boards.

When he returned the next day, I asked about the problems I had found and was told that he could bring in a circular saw and cut out all the bad boards and glue replacements in. We would need to buy another case of boards and we decided against spending the time and expense plus having the inconvenience and mess all over again. We are now looking for a nice big area rug to cover up most of the new floor's many problems. I have seen many bamboo floors that were installed perfectly smooth without any chips or splinters so I know our job was very shoddy. Lumber Liquidators was recommended to us, but we will NOT be passing on any recommendations.
