The absolute worst insurance company ever. I signed up with them on marketplace.gov. "ABSOLUTELY" pay for nothing!!! I HAD a $250 deductible and went several $100 the deductible and they said I had not met it. I spent many hours on the phone trying to get reimbursed for the several hundreds they owed me. My husband was in hospital for 4 days, they paid doctors, labs, blood work and physical therapy but refused to pay hospital bill. I got four different letters stating four different reasons why they would not pay.

Every representative tells me different stories. They keep telling me I am not responsible for the bill. They aren't paying, who is gonna pay it. Now I have collectors calling me... Why aren't all of us getting a class action lawsuit??? That is just one of the nightmares I have had with them trying to get claims paid... Do not ever get this horrible insurance, do yourself a favor. Get another healthcare insurance provider.

UnitedHealthcare is the worst insurance I have ever had. They are denying my blood pressure medicine. I then sent an appeal for which they also denied. Telling me what medicine I should take as they obviously know more about my health than my physician. They do not mind signing the $600.00 a month check though.

I am not asking for something frivolous. I am asking for a blood pressure medicine I have been on for 5 years. They are also denied a diabetic medicine a co-worker takes. I will have paid out of pocket $4420 for an insurance that has paid $0.00 in health benefits to me. At this point I am in no benefit from keeping this horrific excuse for a health insurance company.

I do however have some recourse. I am an IT Director. I will make it my mission to post this same response on message boards, blogs, websites anywhere there is public viewing. You are a disgrace. Denying medications that people need to survive to prevent strokes, heart problems, Diabetic coma. I suppose all of these would cost less. Well you would just deny those claims as well.

UnitedHealthcare CEO Stephen Hemsley took home over $66 million in 2014. UnitedHealthcare made $157.1 billion. Yes that is billion. I suppose denying claims and medications are a good business. I am in the process of appealing with the Illinois Department of Insurance. This should give them a little more time to pocket a few more dollars of mine. Mr Hemsley needs a new yacht. I will try and keep from having a stroke as I cannot pay for my medication. Go look at their Facebook page. There are numerous subscribers getting their claims/medications denied.

ObamaCare -- Marketplace Garbage

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- Well I am paying for UnitedHealthcare over 2200 yearly and I cannot even find a family physician here in the Houston area. Shame on the House of Representatives, shame on Congress, shame on all government official whom endorse this scam for Americans! Yes, UnitedHealthcare has move their operation overseas to the Philippines and the list of doctors within the provider listing is only for Core 1 patients who works for private company or has coverage with spouses. The providers listing was never updated and never will.

When I need to see a family physician for an severe ear infection and flu, I contact 10 doctors listed within the provider listings and I was given the same answer, "WE DO NOT ACCEPT MARKETPLACE GOLD CARD HOLDER OR OBAMACARE RECIPIENTS!!! I call back to Marketplace and spoke with a very nice representative and I told her my dilemma, and how I need to see a family physician, and she politely stated I need to wait until open enrollment.

Well, you know what to hell with open enrollment and to hell with this Marketplace - ObamaCare useless coverage which is the biggest scam in all history of USA! And who is going to send notification to the top dogs and make sure this issue is address? NO ONE because NO ONE cares!!! Stay away for Marketplace insurance -- bottom line and that is my three cents! No rating for Marketplace and UnitedHealthcare -- Negative rating (-100)!!!

HORRIBLE INSURANCE COVERAGE AND COMPANY

I signed up for the $400/month bronze plan with prescription savings plan... once I signed up for that plan, I then found out it doesn't cover mail order prescriptions, or most prescriptions in general. I called for assistance and basically was told, "sorry we can't do anything..." I basically was lied to or tricked prior to signing up for this plan, and now each time I call it's basically "too bad for you". Also, while applying it asked for my pcp, so I put their name in. Have been seeing this specialist for years now. They put some random doctor as my pcp. Never heard of him.
Was told I cannot change it to a specialist, has to be pcp.

So now I guess I have to go see some random doctor. I don't know to get prior authorization for some of my medications. Which makes no sense, because in the end the health insurance is basically paying for a random doctor when I have my own. I can't wait 'til next open enrollment so I can cancel! I am in the healthcare field, and I make sure I tell everyone about my problems with United Health.

Terrible Company

My family doctor and a specialist he referred me to both agree that I need a medication which is given on a daily basis. My family doctor called in a 30 day supply but when I got it home I found out that even though these people agree with the need for the medication and the daily dosage they only allowed 3 pills per month.

Calls from my pharmacy, doctor, and myself failed to change their mind. They advised me to go online and buy it at my own expense which I did. The cost online was only slightly over 1/2 of the co-pay they charged me for the 3 pills they did supply. They also rejected a drug that they agreed I needed because they would only approve a 30 day supply and it is only manufactured on boxes of 60. TOTAL SCAM.

No Resolution to Problem/no Way to Contact Supervisor

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN -- When I contacted UHC on October 2nd to get a letter saying that my daughter would no longer be covered as a dependent on my account, I was told she would not be covered after October 31st and a letter would be sent stating this. When the letter did not arrive after a week, I called back at 8 am on October 9th and was told that there was a note in the file that they would not send the letter until after October 31st. My daughter needed the letter in order to enroll in the insurance plan at her new employer. The last day to enroll in her new insurance plan is October 31st. I asked repeatedly to speak with a supervisor and each time the cs representative argued with me.

I was eventually put on hold and then told there was no one available. I asked to have a supervisor call me and was told they had 24 to 48 business hours to call back and someone would call by October 14th. I asked if that meant by 8 am on the 14th and was told that would be the earliest anyone would call. I pointed out that that was not within the 24 to 48 hours mentioned. I went to the website in the hope of finding a different way to contact anyone at the company. There is no email or other phone number for customer service.

I called back and spoke to one more unhelpful person and asked to take the survey at the end. I left a message at the end of the survey. I do not expect to be called back. There is no way to resolve an issue with this company. They have a one-star rating - much too high!

First Paid the Providers, Then Took Money Back and Told My Husband to Pay Over $20,000

Rating: 1/51

MINNESOTA -- In May of this year my husband received a notification from United Healthcare that he owed doctors and hospitals over $20,000 for the period between 08/14 and 04/15. On close inspection it turned out that they first paid the claims, and then TOOK THE MONEY BACK from the providers. Several phone calls to the (rather ironically called) "Customer Care" representatives resulted in empty promises of return phone calls and no resolution. The employees were clueless. My husband sent a letter to the CEO, no response. Then it transpired that allegedly the bills were not paid because my husband allegedly has Medicare part B (which he does not).

Further, this is not a supplemental insurance: he pays FULL PREMIUMS for his insurance, so what does it have to do with Medicare? Anyway, after a letter to United Healthcare documenting lack of Medicare part B and another to their appeal department, no responses and no resolution, and the bills keep on coming... This is a totally evil company, they cheat everyone: their shareholders (by backdating stock options), their employees (by refusing to pay overtime), the providers (their new tactic is to take back payments for service as alleged "overpayments") and policy holders, by refusing to pay the claims. And why do they get away with it?

If you look at their political contributions, they contributed to the campaigns of every house and senate member, and their lobbying expenses are over $1 billion. And they have AARP endorsement, so if you are a member, please lobby AARP (as I will) to drop their endorsement of this company. The only way to deal with them is to change to another insurance company. All of them are bad, but this one is particularly nasty.

United Healthcare is the WORST

NORTH CAROLINA -- I have United Healthcare Medical Insurance and I live in an area of NC where roughly 80% of all medical providers are associated with Carolinas Healthcare Systems. United Healthcare did not renew their contract with CHS and I realize that both parties are at fault for letting negotiations fail, but we PAY UHC for their coverage so I think they owe us a little consideration when deciding not to do business with the company that provides the vast amount of care in our area. All of UHC's customers in our area (about 80,000 people) now have to find all new doctors.

For me that means new Gen. Practice physicians for myself and my spouse as well as new pediatricians, new dermatologist, new OB, new Orthopedic, new neurologist, etc. etc. The list goes ON and ON. The kicker is that we can no longer even go to Urgent Care in my area. So if my child gets sick or hurt over the weekend I have to drive him 2 towns over or into South Carolina for help. That's right, I'd have to drag a sick or hurt child into another town or possibly another STATE. That's the kind of care you get from United Healthcare, so beware.

Bad Business Practice

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI -- Since I became self-employed on 2013, I've been using United Healthcare. I thought this is the only one available for Individual Coverage. I have a balance in my deductible in 2013 and in 2014. But both years, I received an increase in my premium. The increase was timed when the open enrollment is already closed. That is not good business practice. I wasn't happy for getting a $90 increase last year.

This year for 2015 coverage, my premium is raised from $386 to $452 for an individual. I don't have a family and it's ridiculous to pay $452 per month. I got the letter when the open enrollment is no longer available. I understand that there will be increases but they should do that during the open enrollment so people has a choice to continue or find another provider. The moment I can, I will move to a new provider and I will advise anyone I know who's using United Healthcare to change provider.

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- I have tried repeatedly to get my scripts refilled for Accu Chek glucose meter strips. I was informed that they, Optumrx, are only allowing me 50 scripts every 3 weeks when I have been getting 200 a month. I am an INSULIN dependent type 2 diabetic and need to test more often than a non insulin use patient. This is not something that just changed since I have had this for over a decade.

Besides "why would Optumrx deny me the glucose strips but allow the Insulin syringes to be filled if they thought I was a non insulin using patient?" Funny but UHC just changed the way they do things and now the patients are the one to suffer because their Representatives lack the ability to read medical information that is at their fingertips.
