Wells Fargo Financed Patio Furniture
By -

First of all let me state that I am a 50 y.o. male that has not been late with a payment to anybody for a very long time. I purchased some patio furniture from a store in the Dallas area that had a one year no interest special. As I have excellent credit the process took no time at all.

I have been paying on the furniture for the last 11 months. My latest bill in the mail indicated that they tacked on a $25 late penalty. To dispute the charge you have to send a handwritten letter through snail mail (this is by design I'm sure to discourage people from doing it) which I did. I enclosed a screen-grab of my e-mail inbox which indicated the receipt of my payment - every payment I had made within a few days of each other every month.

I'm not entirely sure when my due date is (that's something else which is not available, again I think by design) because that information is not available on their website. I pay online through their website but details about my account aren't really available, just a payment screen and a history of my payments.

I have been paying every month as I said within a few days of each other. The month that they indicated I was late was not even the latest I've paid on the account. I paid the 16th on the month they say I was late and months prior to that I paid on the 19th, and no charge.

So I sent the complaint about three weeks ago and asked for a final bill minus the charge as the year was almost up anyway and I was down to my final payment. I received a letter that said they were investigating. I sent my last payment the other day, actually more than my last payment because I didn't know what my total bill is at this point I just sent my usual payment because I sure didn't want to get caught short. The company I bought the furniture from was Chair King but I've also done business with Discount tire which also financed through Wells Fargo. I don't think I'll be using Wells Fargo again as they are clearly underhanded. So now I wait.

Wells Fargo Wire Transfer Reversal Without Consent
By -

CHANDLER, ARIZONA -- In 2008 my company processed a wire transfer with another company in England and we did a wire transfer through my business account at Wells Fargo. The Wire transfer got screwed up somehow and the money was reversed back to it's sender without my consent or the consent of my company. Eventually the Wells Fargo closed the business account and never discussed what happened to the wire transfer or the money. My company never owed any money to Wells Fargo, the account was just closed without any information why.

Now last month 2011 I get an invitation to open a business account with Wells Fargo, so I go in and open a business account with Wells Fargo. Everything was fine until about two weeks later my bank account handler calls me to see if I got my debit cards and that he was still trying to get the bonus offer through that went with opening the new account. I go into the branch the same day and speak with my bank account handler who then informs me of an issue with the account and that the wire transfer that happened in 2008 was considered an empty wire transfer and that the account was on hold until an investigation determines what has happened.

This is a new account and I was told that because of the old account it affects the new account. Well, I got a letter in the mail today stating that my new account has been closed based on a business decision and that was all the letter really said. Now I don't know what to do. I can't open an account because of this wire transfer which I can't get any information on. I don't owe any money and no information is available about why my accounts are being closed or why I can't open a new account. Can someone help me?

Wells Fargo Bank Made a Difficulty for Me
By -

NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA -- I will never make an investment or deposit with Wells Fargo. They made what should have been a simple transaction an unnecessarily complicated one. I had obtained a CD with Wachovia Bank which later was acquired by Wells Fargo. The CD had a one-year maturity date. When I received the notice from what was now Wells Fargo that the CD had matured, I did what I have always done in such a situation. I checked with several other institutions to see which offered the best interest rate. Since their rate was not the best, I decided to close the account.

When I came to the Northridge (California) branch, the executive started the paper work and asked me for my driver's license. I handed it to him with the explanation that it had expired, but that I had applied for a renewal, which had been granted, but that I had been unable to find the temporary one which I had been given at renewal. The individual refused to close the account unless I could show him a "valid" driver's license or a valid passport. I showed him my veterans I.D. card, complete with my photo on it, but he adamantly refused to consider it. I asked him to call the DMV to verify that I had renewed it, but he refused to do that either.

Understand, there was no question of my identity, he fully conceded it, but refused, on the technicality, to grant my access to my CD funds. I told him that that very driver's license was the one which had established my identity when I opened the account, but he still would not accept it. I asked to speak to the branch manager, who came, and listened, but was equally steadfast in refusal.

Furthermore, I was told that, unless I was able to return with a valid driver's license, or passport, my funds would be turned over to the state after five years. This leaves the question..."What if I couldn't have gotten my license renewed or if I didn't have a valid passport?" I'd eventually lose my funds to the state.

The upshot is I obtained my passport (luckily not expired) from a safe deposit box at another bank, returned with it the next day and closed the account. I swore that I would never use Wells Fargo again for anything and told them that I would bad-mouth them at every opportunity. I followed up with a letter to the president of Wells Fargo, but have never received the courtesy of a reply.

Wells Fargo - Paid off Bill But Still Refuses To Remove Negative Rating
By -

A couple years ago I figured I would try my hands at an online school. I applied and was accepted to the University of Phoenix. I had put in my FASFA application and thought everything was working out just fine. FASFA was taking forever to come through. The school encouraged me to take out a private loan. I did on the condition that the loan only be used after FASFA as a secondary payment source. The school immediately took $1500 out of the $4000 dollar loan (Completely against my wishes!).

Two weeks later I dropped out of the University of Phoenix. This is where the nightmare begins. The school refused to send the money back and the bank viewed the debt as valid. Wells Fargo immediately tacked on about $200 dollars in interest and after just two weeks of school I owed $1700 dollars to Wells Fargo. For the next two years I paid payments, begrudgingly, as I hated paying for nothing. I lost my job during this time period and was not able to make payments anymore. They shot the minimum payment up to $150 a month and every day and night they would call and harass me looking for more and more money.

Each month they asked for more in intervals of $150 until I owed the entire amount of the bill due (More than $600 dollars at the time). I begged them to lower the minimum payment. They would not, insisting that I pay the full amount of the loan to make the account "current" again. I slowly and painfully paid what I could. That about $50 a month, but still they reported every month to the Credit Reporting agencies that I was late.

I finally paid off the entire bill and was done with them. Or at least I thought I was. They had placed a negative rating on my credit report even after I paid them $1700 dollars for a loan that was never utilized in the first place. I have called and written for the past year or so but to no avail. They will not remove the negative rating on my credit report. So the question I have to ask is why pay at all if you're still going to hurt us in the end? This is a terrible company. Vicious and vindictive. I want my credit to reflect the pain and hardship that they put me through. I paid off that bill and it's a positive!

Stop Payment Policy
By -

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- On or about 9/27/10 I called Wells Fargo bank to register complaint about a SuperTarget debit card charge I could find no receipt or record of in my files. [Target accounting, in phone call I made to them, did say they could not find this debit fee going all the way back to 9/10/10]. I called Wells Fargo and placed a 'stop payment' on the charge; and at the time Wells Fargo said there would be a 6 month period for this stop pay. Today I discovered that Wells Fargo put this stop pay on ALL Target debit card purchases, not the one time debit fee. In my conversation with them, "ALL" company debit charges wasn't mentioned.

Now, Target is charging me $500 in NSF fees. After a 90 minute phone call to Wells Fargo, being disconnected 3 times, a customer service representative yelling at me because I didn't have a tracking number, then hung up on me. I then personally went to a branch location, there they claimed that Target accounting terminology was the cause of the stop pays (all accounting numbers are the same, so no, Target not in error there). More phone calls to Wells Fargo, to no avail, THE WELLS FARGO BANK REFUSES TO budge on changing their terminology; and offer assistance in removing the NSF fees (there was money in my account to cover all Target transactions at the time).

I've done stop pays numerous times over the years and NO BANK has ever done a 'blanket stop pay' EVER!!! SO -- fair warning to all Wells Fargo Bank users who need to do a stop payment. Is it any wonder banking industry has lost the American public trust? I want Wells Fargo to remove the $500 stop pay fees, because the money was in the account. I want them to replace the $387 dollars as it was their fault that Target did not get paid.

Wells Fargo Took $3000 From Me
By -

A few months ago I had to close a few Wells Fargo accounts due to poor customer service and shady business practices. But I decided to keep my Brokerage account open. What could go wrong? I have a few shares of stock, and I no longer make trades, so what could go wrong?

I've had a Wachovia checking account for over 10 years with no major problems. Wells Fargo bought them out, but I had no issues with that. What could go wrong? I logged into my Wachovia checking account a couple of days ago and I noticed that $3000 (yes, thousand) was missing. I noticed that Wells Fargo had an automated debit moved from my Wachovia checking into my Wells Fargo Brokerage account. I was fuming. I've had bad encounters with the night support, so I waited until the morning to call Wells Fargo customer service.

I contacted Brokerage support on the morning of 9/3 and asked them why they moved $3000 from my checking account into my Brokerage account. The representative reviewed my accounts, and could not explain the transaction. The money was inexplicably moved from my checking on 9/1 and has been sitting in the Brokerage account for 3 days for no reason.

The rep immediately moved the money from the Brokerage account back to checking. I checked online and the $3000 disappeared from my Brokerage, but I checked my Wachovia checking account and the money was not there. He assured me that the money would be in my checking account later that day. I later called Wachovia. After being on hold for more than 20 mins., the representative confirmed that she did not see any money posted, and that once the money is posted, it will take a few days for the money to be available.

So they took $3000 out of my main checking account that I used to pay bills, without my authorization or explanation. I'm going through all of this because they wanted to make a few bucks of interest off of my money. Once the money is back in my account I am closing both my Wells and Wachovia accounts. Between all of my accounts (checking, savings, CD, Brokerage), they've lost over 45K of business from me. Once I have the time to refinance, I will take my mortgage loan to another company as well.

Robbed By The Bank

I purchased a furnace in January, 2010 that was financed by Wells Fargo Financial. The monthly due date on the agreement clearly states the 8th of the month for the next 48 months, at $80.00 per month. While I made a payment on June 8th, I received a phone call from their collections department saying that I was one day late, and that the due date was the 7th of the month. WF assessed a late fee of $39.00, which according to them made my July payment due of $119.00.

On July 6, 2010, I paid online $100.00, thinking that I was paying $20 more than the principal and interest due, but I received a phone call this morning (7/17/10) informing me that because I was $19 short of what was due, an additional late fee of $39 has been assessed. After an hour on the phone with their collector and her supervisor, I am told that unless I satisfy principal, interest (which totals $80), and all fees each month by the due date, a late fee ($39) will be assessed each month.

I argued that I have satisfied the agreed upon principal and interest commitment, and the due date should rightfully advance each month. I am willing to dispute the changed due date through their customer service channels, but I should not have to continue to be victimized by late fees when I have a documented due date spelled out on the original loan agreement.

What law is there that protects a customer from (1) having a loan agreement due date changed without agreement from the customer, and (2) from an institution that takes its fees out of the monthly monies sent, and then pays principal and interest after they pay themselves their fees, setting the customer up for a fee assessment in the next month?

Home modification loan corruption
By -

Somehow, we as consumers who have been prey to the predatory, illegal, and really beyond belief tactics Wells Fargo has engaged in regarding the pilferage of the govt hamp loan as well as the truly corrupt practices of the bait and switch from hamp to WF in house mods... Need to do something together in order to bring this to the attention of anyone who can help us avoid losing our homes or being totally destroyed by this nationwide situation.

My story is one which could easily make the jaws drop of anyone in the mortgage business or any average American consumer... It is similar to most on this site accepting the fact that I have actual conversations from the agents more than documented with remarks such as "ch ching **" "we should call ourselves Soprano mortgage." just a few which are beyond belief.

I was 60 days past due and called on the 1st when my mtg is due and they refused to take my payment over the phone as I have always done, and foreclosed on my home for two days, in order to line the pockets of their law firm representative in my area to the tune of 3k. They tell you you are eligible over the phone after a verbal app, and then set you up with a trial period than they pull out the rug and switch to an inhouse mod which is total theft plain and simple.

They have given me ten days from the date of their letter which I received 4 days later via FedEx which in effect gives me only 4 days to respond. They offered to reduce my p/I by 140 dollars. Great deal? I have 12 years left on my 30 year mtg and the terms are for a new 30 year fixed loan... What can we as citizen do to stop this and bring own stories to the for? WHAT CAN WE AS CITIZENS DO TO STOP THIS AND BRING OUR STORIES TO THE FOREFRONT?

They prey on us as we are having difficulty, and my situation is a failed spinal surgery which has left me disabled and crippled... They assume we can not afford a lawyer and are crushing those of us who are the definition of terms of Hamp program loans. WE MUST SOMEHOW NOT GIVE UP THE FIGHT AND GET OUTSIDE THE BOX WITH THIS!!! We need help!!

Where Shall I Begin?
By -

O Lord where shall I begin? I will say this whatever you do don't do business with WF. There are so many stories I can tell you, like the time I made a deposit with a deposit slip from my checkbook, only to go get gas the next morning and find my account was overdrawn. When I called WF I was told that there was not deposit. I gave the representative the deposit slip information and was told that it would take 7 days to investigate and there was nothing that could done about it.

I had to go to the bank where I made the deposit and argue with the manager who finally admitted that the money was deposited into someone else's account. Once fixed they actually still tried to charge me for insufficient funds. Or the time some internet company got into my account and wiped it clean of course I was told it would take another 7 days to review, in the meantime I have direct deposit so on payday I go in and there is my check with some money left in my account because of course they take money out for insufficient funds.

I leave to go work stop to get gas and lo and behold my account is negative again. I go online and my deposit is missing. I walk over to the bank and demand to speak to a manager. The manager told me to go back to my job and ask my HR why they pulled back my check as WF would never do that. After going back to work and calling HR I was told to go back to WF and have them call my HR representative. After arguing with the bank they finally called and after 5 minutes of the manager getting yelled at was informed that oooppss it was WF fault and they would have it fixed.

Of course it needs to go to review which takes 7 days. Oh I could go on. But you get the jest. Oh and for those of you who didn't know if you have a bank account with WF and a auto loan through WF they will withdrawal the money directly out of your bank account without notifying you. You only find out when you go to use your card that your account has been cleaned out.

Denies Application For A SECURED Credit Card Claiming I Do Not Make Enough Money To Qualify
By -

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA -- A few weeks ago I went to my local Wachovia branch for a consultation about starting a credit history and I was told that the best way to start would be to have a secured credit card, the way it would work being that a "collateral account" would be created and the amount placed into it would be my credit limit, and the funds in the collateral account would be released after one year. Since this was a secured card, there would be minimal requirements for qualification.

The financial specialist recommended that I go onto the Wells Fargo website and apply for the Wells Fargo Secured Card, as he was unable to do it in his office as Wachovia and Wells Fargo had not yet integrated. I did so, checking to ensure that all information on the form was accurate, including that money to secure the card was to be withdrawn from an existing checking account that I had with Wachovia.

A week later I got a letter of denial, stating that the reason was that I did not make a high enough income to qualify! I was flabbergasted! Firstly, why the heck would there be income requirement for a secured card?! It's a SECURED card with existing money held as collateral with no risk to the bank! Secondly, I've had the same job for at least a year and it pays very well especially considering the economic conditions (so I must reiterate, how do I not meet an income requirement for a secured card?).

Update: After I went back to the financial specialist, he learned about the income requirement for himself. He called Wells Fargo internally and had the application updated to reflect the correct income as I had underreported my income accidentally.

A couple weeks later I got another denial letter. Not only was the income reason still there, they could also no longer confirm the existence of my Wachovia account to secure the funds against, nor my social security number. Again I went to the branch to have the problem corrected.

The financial specialist called the credit card division again, and when I talked to them I determined that the representative that we talked to the previous time did not actually correct the application. It is obvious that an error had occurred since my social security number had not changed. Also they advised me to send a check since the Wachovia and Wells Fargo systems have not integrated so they couldn't take the money from it. Then I got another denial letter requesting more information. The financial specialist faxed the information. Now the card was finally approved.
