GE Dishwasher Recall 2007
By -

UTAH -- I have experienced some of the worst customer service in regards to the GE Dishwasher recall. GE sent a replacement part and a repairman to fix my dishwasher. As it turns out the part that GE sent was the wrong one. However, the repairman had already cut out the electrical wiring on my dishwasher, putting it out of commission. I was told it would be another week before another part could be ordered and installed. Meanwhile I would be without a dishwasher.

Then a GE representative called and left a message to tell me that it would actually be two weeks before a new part could be delivered and installed. I called the 1 800 number she left to see if a sooner date could be arranged considering I was now without a dishwasher. I kept getting message prompt after message prompt, never a real person. All I could get from the automated system was that I had an appointment and that I should call the same 1 800 number if I had questions.

I finally reached a live person after about 30 minutes on the phone. He was unable to help but referred me to the GE customer service hotline. I called that number and reached a very rude GE representative. She raised her voice at me, told me I could only deal with this through the recall hotline, refused to put me through to a manager, and cut me off by transferring me to the recall hotline.

ONce on the recall hotline, I had to go through about 10 more prompts to talk to another person. This rep was much kinder, thankfully. She arranged to have the part sent and installed on an earlier date. I am still without a dishwasher. I have tried reaching GE to complain about their customer service. All I could find until locating this site was an email address. I wrote an email regarding my experience. No word back from GE, of course.

GE is a multi-billion dollar company. For all that, they still have deplorable customer service. There is no excuse for the way my situation has been handled or the way I was treated. Their 1 800 numbers are just a dead-end maze of prompts. Email messages left on their website go unanswered. And their representatives can be very rude and unhelpful.

I do not think GE products are very well made. This is not the first issue I've had with my dishwasher. The first issue, a burnt out timer, was addressed under my warranty. Now the machine is out of warranty. Considering the poor quality of the GE products and their poor customer service, I would not recommend that people buy their products. Don't even get me started on GE's questionable role in the media, politics, and the Middle East....a whole other reason to boycott GE products.

GE's LACK of Quality - Is This Truly the Result of the Six Sigma Programs?
By -

Countless of us have suffered from low quality GE appliances. I know so many. The problem stems, I believe, from the fact that they use inexpensive parts and services. This is because that they are shrewd purchasers. There was someone who once stated, "you get what you paid for".

My dishwasher leaked on hardwood floors after 4.5 years. I suspected it and replaced it in a nick of time. Both neighbors had bad problems that damaged their finished basements and nearly caused electrical shorts/fires on their hot water tanks located below. I pulled my dishwasher to check and saw a small leak that had buckled the hardwoods. Replaced it very quick with another brand.

Less than 5 years for a new (and upgraded) dishwasher in my new house??? Give me a break! Seems that sell on low price to builders to place their products then want to sell you the extended warranty. Would hate to see what a hassle it would be to make a claim.

My aunt's microwave went after 5 years as well. Both were out of warranty and I am pleased to say that neither of us elected to pursue that "GE extended warranty plan" at rip-off prices. Certified GE Service repair technicians wanted $100 to show up and even recommended that we consider just buying something new to replace since their work would only be guaranteed for 90 days or less. Has this U.S. Society really morphed into a truly disposable society that we would be OK to fill our landfills with large broken items?

In my mind, the fact of the matter is that this company should go back to paying attention to quality. More folks need to complain and bring this subject matter to attention. I don't know about you but I do not own any GE stock and when the truth comes out, you will wish that you didn't as well. P.S. No. I do not work for a GE competitor.

GE Double Oven Complaint
By -

ATASCADERO, CALIFORNIA -- I have a 3 year old GE Profile Double oven with a convection on top model JTP56WOD1WW. I have had two repairs and the third one is pending. In the past two years the oven has exploded upon turning the broiler on and caught on fire, turned itself on and off until the entire thing shuts down and F7 flashes and now is turning on and off again just one month after the last major repair. This time the oven turned itself on self-clean when we were out to dinner and our neighbor broke into our house because all of our fire alarms were going off and they thought our house was on fire.

We didn't use the oven at all that day. GE tells me I need another three hundred dollar repair. I have found similar reviews online. GE tells me I am alone in my complaint. This oven was over two thousand dollars and I can't get any reasonable solution to my problem. I have spent $500 in repairs.

My 6 year old GE drop in range had a thermostat malfunction, resulting in it being stuck on the highest temperature, even though I had it set at 250 degrees. I had put a roast in oven, (very lean, large pan, well covered) and when I returned several hours later, there were flames in the oven, and my house was full of smoke. I could not turn the oven off, I had to trip the breaker.

Insurance came out, and said it was a product liability issue, and told us to contact GE, which we did. This was a Thursday, 3 weeks before Christmas. They told us they would send out a technician to look at the stove to determine if it was toast or could be fixed on Monday. On Monday, they called and said they had to process the reports and order the replacement parts???, so it would be Friday before the technician would be out. The GE authorized technician, sent by GE, told my husband it was toast and could not be repaired.

We made repeated phone calls to GE consumer help line, trying to get some information. After leaving numerous messages, a week later we were told that it COULD be repaired. They would repair it for free, or give us a discount on a new stove. The current retail cost of the exact stove is $1499.00. GE said they would sell us a new one for $931! I would have to pay $931 for a replacement stove that almost burned my house down! They "disagreed" with the technician's findings. So why do they bother to send out a technician?

Now, if I did decide to go with a replacement stove, I could not go to a store a buy it. GE it would have to process the paperwork, "order" it from their warehouse, have it delivered to a certified GE dealer, and wait for them to be able to deliver it and install. I was told this process would take 3-4 weeks!

The woman who was assigned to our case was very difficult to get a hold of. I repeatedly left messages with her, leaving 2 cell phone numbers, and my work number explaining it would be easier to get a hold of one of us this way. But she always called the home number, when we weren't home. By the time we'd get home, she'd be gone for the day. She claims she emailed us, but we never received an email from her. I'm disgusted in GE. We went ahead a filed an insurance claim, and insurance is going after GE to get reimbursed. I have now been without a stove for a month.

Worst Customer Service Ever!
By -

We purchased a new high end GE stove from Home Depot recently. The catch was that GE was going to deliver it and install it. No problem. A few days before delivery, we had a death in the immediate family and called GE to reschedule. We asked if they could deliver it a day early. Totally indifferent-the customer service representative said they could not change delivery and this situation was not their problem. So we called Home Depot and they arranged for it to be delivered to their store for us to pick up. The Home Depot is less than a mile from our house.

You guessed it-GE delivered it a day early to Home Depot. We picked it up and brought it home-unpacking it in accordance with the carton instructions, only to find a huge scratch on top of the range caused by a staple placed in the top of the shipping carton. So we called and asked for some help from GE. They blew us off saying they did not deliver it so it wasn't their problem. The lady even went out of her way to say it was not GE's problem and they would do nothing to help. A totally wasted conversation with a runaround artist. Home Depot came out inspected it and offered to replace it or a $50 discount even though it was clearly not their fault.

HEY GE--not that you care but I have bought my last GE product and I will tell everyone I know. I cannot believe customer service people would even work for a company that is so blatantly arrogant and uncaring. And we wonder why Asian companies have such a market share here. I wished I had read the reviews here first and I would never have bought GE. Now I know.

GE Defective Washing Machine
By -

I bought a GE Energy Star Washing Machine and as soon as I turned it on, it began flooding water out of the bottom. I finally got a hold of a live person at GE after a lot of wasted time going through automated answering. They sent out someone to look at the machine who said the tub was cracked and that the part was on back order and he didn't know when it would arrive.

I called to ask for a new washing machine and they said it would take longer to get me a new one than to get the back ordered part. So I waited for the part. It arrived and I made an appointment for someone to install it. I received a message the night before the appointment, saying that the part had not left the warehouse (in fact it had been delivered nearly a week prior), and that they were canceling my appointment.

They gave me a number to call, but I could not find a live person to talk to so I could explain that the part had been delivered and I wanted to keep the appointment I had made (particularly since I had made special arrangements to have someone at my house to let the technician in). I was forced to take a later appointment through the automated system. The technician put in the new tub and said it was likely a defective tub from the company.

I have done 3 loads of laundry and now the machine bangs very loudly when spinning and bounces around. I cannot reach a real person to complain. It has been almost a month since I have had a washing machine - I have laundry piled up and I have spent countless hours trying to speak to a real person and arrange for someone to be at my house to let the technicians in. I will NEVER buy a GE product again!

Outrageous GE Service Fees, and VERY poor quality: Shameful
By -

Please read this before buying ANY GE appliance. All the apliances in my house are GE, and I am sorry. I have a built-in microwave which are incredibly expensive and poorly made. Stopped working a couple of years after I purchased my house. Now as I am selling my house, I figured the few hundred dollars is worth it to leave a working appliance for buyers. Called GE (that have a minimum $99 fee, regardless up front regardless if you do any repairs at all!!!) VERY angry. cranky old man came. Between complaining about the other service people and the customer service people on the phone, he found a loss wire.

In less than 10 minutes (most of is spent telling me how he trained all the other techs, but they still did not know what they were doing) the microwave was fine and he was on his way. For that 10 minutes of wire tightening I was charged $225! (outrageous, but it was working) 2 weeks later the microwave stopped working AGAIN! Different service person comes and tells me it will cost $411 MORE to fix!!! and the OTHER guy did not know what HE was talking about. So, I passed on spending nearly $650 to fix a microwave (sadly being a built in sucks, as I am stuck with a broken appliance in my home).

What made me mad is that the customer service person actually said, "Maam, it was repaired, right?" I said that I do not consider something working for only 2 weeks (less actually) FIXED! I have heard nothing good about GE's repair center or customer service. JUST PLEASE UNDERSTAND that NO one will repair GE appliances that I could find except GE. And you will be in the same situation of HIGH charges, minimum fees whether they repair or NOT!

If you purchase a GE appliance, please just do so with your eyes wide open. Do your own research and call their customer service and see how rude they are. I had GREAT GREAT experiences with Bosch myself. I will never buy from GE ever again.

Bad Product, Poor Customer Service
By -

I purchased a GE Refrigerator @ Home Depot, which was delivered on May 14th. I arrived home from work, on May 27th to find everything spoiled as the unit had stopped cooling in both compartments. I called GE and was told that they could not get a technician out to my house until June 2nd (Hmmm 6 days)! I also inquired about the food loss & was told that they made no provisions for that. I asked to speak w/a supervisor and was cut off while being transferred.

I called the local H.D. and a person in appliances called GE. He called back to give me a contact name & number and told me to call if I didn't hear from her shortly, and to ask about reimbursement for food. The customer care representative did call saying she couldn't contact dispatch, but would try in the morning, and also gave me a claim # for damages. I asked that the unit be replaced, rather than repaired, as it was less than 2 weeks old and she said they could not do that unless it was determined not repairable.

GE dispatch did call the following day & said a tech. would be out 'sometime' before 5:00 so I requested 1/2 notice so that I could get to my house, from work. The tech called, a few hours later, telling me he would be there in 17 minutes & I pointed out the 1/2 notice to which he replied, "Fine, consider this your half hour, I'll see you @ 12:30!" He hooked up the diagnostics & asked if this were a floor model (which it was not) then kept saying hmmm, this is not right and finally concluded that it was the control panel (circuit board) which he just happened to have in his truck...

He noticed a water/ice maker kit that I had purchased, which we had not hooked up yet, and picked it up asking where I bought it because it is illegal! He was practically yelling at me, as he picked up the owner's manual, saying GE requires their own hook-up. Very disturbing to say the least... At that point I told him that the manual was of no used to me as Home Depot will be taking this 'repaired' unit back, on June 2nd, & it is being replaced with an LG! I then called the claim's division & was told, based on the size of the fridge (24 c.f.), that they could only give me $100 for $400 worth of groceries! This is customer service at its worst...

Icemaker in GE Refrigerator Model GSS23QGTAWW-Warranty Fraud
By -

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- Purchased 11/07 because of Crushed or Cubed Ice and Water in Door. Broke and replaced in 08/08. Advised by GE Tech to purchase extended warranty, which I did, with a check made out to GE Service Protection Plus 10/31/08 for $248.02. Icemaker jammed but I freed it in 08/09. Recently I hear and find ice cubes falling into my freezer. Icemaker won't dispense again. Opened the freezer door to look in bin, and ice pours out at me and on the floor. My extended warranty was sold to me by Assurance Solutions, a company that dispenses repairmen specific to brand name. GE SOLD IT'S WARRANTY POLICY to that company.

I called the service number which is for Assurance Solutions. I spoke to supervisor who informed me that an Icemaker is NOT Considered a Major Component. Will send a GE repairman under my 3 year warranty on Tuesday. Asked for a phone number for GE Management, which he refused to do. Was told by Rashad (800 309-5768) they can only be reached by mail to GE Federal Warranty Solution Center. That is Assurance Solutions, not GE. Went online and found a number for GE. Spoke to 2 people in consumer relations (Keisha, Supervisor - **-her ID) at 800 386-1215. Refused to offer me a new refrigerator or a lifetime warranty on my icemaker.

Searched further Mary Beth ** ** who IS a GE Management person. She agreed to call me after my service call. The switchboard number is: **. Ms. ** says that should I continue to have problems with my icemaker, after the extended warranty they fraudulently sold ends, GE will consider "on a case by case basis" if they should repair my icemaker at no cost. My check was written to GE, Assurance Solutions. They sold their warranty division without my knowledge. Now they won't stand behind their product. Do I need a attorney? Are there other complaints about GE Icemakers or about the warranty fraud?

Extremely Bad Customer Service
By -

Two years ago we purchased a new home that included GE appliances. The oven had a touch pad control for all functions. Now two years later, the pad has been replaced 4 times and is bad again. GE wanted to sell me another pad for $120.00 and said I had to have a GE service provider install it for another $130.00. It takes about 2 minutes to do the change out. When I again complained they said there was no recall on the part and there was nothing that they could do. After complaining for another 20 minutes, they came back and told me they would replace the pad at no charge but this would be the last time.

The other option was to sell me a better oven at a reduced price. The price would include the oven, freight, tax and installation. I felt there was no other choice than to take the offer. When the installers showed up, they advised me they had to take the old (2 years) oven away. I told them no. I then had to call GE customer service to find out why. They basically told me I was incorrect and that they had told me very plainly that they would have to take back the old unit. They became very defensive. I asked to speak with a supervisor about the problem. About 5 minutes later a lady came on and told me exactly how it was.

I had no choice and there was nothing they could do. I decided to go ahead with the deal. That is why I am going on every website and letting the world know, I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GE PRODUCT and will let everyone I know they should not either. I wish I had looked at this site before making the decision to take the new over. CONSUMERS--BEWARE.
