HAMBURG, NEW JERSEY -- Purchased a Centennial Dryer through Home Depot on Jan 3. Dryer delivered Jan 7. Used it once on Jan 9 with a very small load. Dryer had a solid thump, thump inside it. I removed the clothes and ran it empty - no difference.
I also noticed that the top of the dryer was not sitting properly on the frame, but was tight on one side and loose on the other side.

That afternoon I contacted Maytag and they scheduled a service call to fix the problems for Jan 13, today, between 8 and 5. The serviceman looked at it and said he believes the dryer needs a new drum, so, he ordered it and scheduled another service date between 8 and 5 next week. I informed him that I would be calling Maytag for a replacement dryer, which I did as soon as he left.

The customer service representative informed me that the dryer was not going to be replaced but would be fixed. I asked to speak to a supervisor who also informed me that they would not replace the dryer, but would fix it. So now, they are shipping a drum in a box to my home and expecting me (I'm 67 years old and have no extra room for such a big box) to bring it in and hold it until the service people can come to install it.

I then called Home Depot and asked them if they would send me a replacement dryer but they said I had to go through the Maytag repair system. I personally find all this maneuvering to be nothing but big business trying to dodge responsibility for their lack of ability to maintain proper service and good quality control. They advertise how great their products and services are but when put to the test, they all fall down! This saga is just beginning - stay tuned for up-to-date news as it develops.

Poor Quality/service

ILLINOIS -- Bought 3 Maytag appliance 5 years ago. The first week, the washing machine transmission broke. Told this was unusual and thought that was the end of my problems with the appliances and expected to have trouble-free appliances for at least 8 or 10 years. The motor went out on the dryer just at the very end of the 3 year extended warranty. I had to pay $263.00 for a new motor and was not reimbursed, even after phone calls and a letter.

Then, the fins inside the drum came off. Finally, the dryer stopped drying. Meanwhile, one year into the life of the dishwasher, it leaked on new wood flooring, then the IntelliClean feature stopped working this year. The new refrigerator that is not even a year old is making terribly loud popping noises. I called Maytag and emailed them, I was treated rudely on the phone and promised by email that someone would call this week. No calls, no help, no dryer for the past two weeks. I will never buy another thing from Maytag.

Maytag Neptune Dryer MD68
By -

HAMILTON, ON CANADA -- Purchased a Maytag Neptune MD68 Dryer On March 15, 2004. The Maytag Neptune MD68 Dryer was purchased for $749.00 plus tax. I always believed the Maytag commercials that states that 'Maytag will last forever and the Maytag Repair Man never makes a service call'. I have learned that you should never believe in fairy tales. The Maytag Repair Man just left me an $80.00 bill and told me that my Maytag Neptune MD68 Dryer MIGHT be repaired for maybe $450.00, but there is no guarantee. He told me to go and buy a new dryer.

I have learned that you should: NEVER BUY MAYTAG! MAYTAG WILL RIP YOU OFF!! I am so disappointed in Maytag!!! Maytag has taken unfair advantage of their customers!!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON MAYTAG!!!!

Bravos Dryer Issue
By -

I purchased a Maytag Bravos series washer and dryer in 2009. For the first 13 months, it worked fine. Then it started running rough. The dryer went back to normal after a day or so, but no longer got my clothes dry -- the inside of the drum was like a sauna after running it for 2 or 3 cycles. We checked every inch of our vent for clogs, cleaned the lint screen within an inch of its life and ran very small loads. Nothing helped.

We had a repairman come out, and he said the dryer belt had "come loose." He reconnected it and the dryer ran fine... for a week. Then the same problem (running rough then clothes not drying) occurred. He came back out and said the belt assembly--in particular the parts that keep the belt attached to the drum--was broken, and it would take a week to get the part.

Fast forward two months. The dryer worked great for a while. Then it started running rough. One day later? You guessed it...the clothes aren't getting dry again. The repairman is due out next week, so we'll see. This makes three repair calls in less than 4 months. My old GE set (which I had for 19 years) gave us very little trouble. I'm disappointed a more modern, efficient set is so inconsistent.

Maytag Epic Washer and Dryer is Horrible!!!
By -

I have had my Epic front load washer and dryer for 15 months. From the first week I had problems with the washer. When on regular spin cycle, the machine is very loud, vibrates horribly and walks across the floor. I now use only the delicate cycle to avoid some of the noise issues and some of the vibration but at least it doesn't walk across the floor as much! The repairman replaced the "shocks" and advised taking the machine off the risers. (Now what am I going to do with two risers that cost approximately $300 each?)

The dryer motor has recently gone out and will need to be replaced at an approximate price of $450 or more according to the repairman (That's half the cost of the dryer!!) I will replace the dryer with a no-name simple machine similar to the Citation I had for 25 years. And as soon as the Washer shakes itself apart, I'll replace it with a similar no-name brand. In addition my Whirlpool refrigerator has been worked on twice in the two years I've had it :(Whirlpool owns Maytag). Both these brands used to mean quality but not anymore.

As soon as I can, these appliances are going to the trash dump and I'll get a cheap model like the Citation I had for 25 years. Never, never will I purchase an expensive appliance or any appliance for that matter from this company.

Landfill junk
By -

We are currently taking the two top of the line Maytag dryer and washer to the landfill. Maytag is why Americans are losing faith in their own industries. The neptune series are just junk we both wish we would have bought a lower priced more reliable product. Both machines have been a pain to own. Both have broken down and the last straw was when we were told the combined price for a tub and the tripod mounting bracket was approx. 750.00 without the labor to put it in. Customer service was a typical corporate joke and offered no help in getting us affordable parts. We will purchase off brand cheaper products since Maytag in our opinion should just go away.

Complaint

WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA -- Just purchased a new Bravos washer & dryer from Island Appliance, Wilmington, NC. Sold to me as quiet and efficient. You would not believe how loud the dryer is and the washer can't wash four towels without becoming unbalanced. Maytag ignores complaints and service says, "That's just the way these models are." Maytag says, "Take it up with Island Appliance." Island Appliance says, "Take it up with Maytag."

As as far as I'm concerned, the product is defective and I need a refund. Next step, Consumer Protection. Island Appliance does not stand behind the products they are selling. Comment to me - if they took them back, they would take a loss. Guess the consumer has to take a loss in their eyes.

Lint Clog Factor
By -

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- I recently had the thermal fuse go out on my dryer. It was due to lint clog that was BELOW the lint filter. There is nothing in the manual telling me to clean below the lint filter. AND it is impossible to reach anyway. A very special tool would be required which does NOT come with the dryer. I tried to clean it AFTER the thermal fuse blew. Even with a 12" artists brush, I could not reach the area. ONLY after the service man removed the front panel and top of the dryer was he able to get the clog completely out.

Additionally there is a baffle leading to the lint exhaust which makes cleaning the area even more difficult. The designers are really getting an UGH! for this one. And the "lonely repair man" of Maytag fame can go in the category of NON-EXISTENT. I called customer service and they said to call the dealer, the dealer said they did not recommend service people. How's that for advertising fraud?

Lemon Washer
By -

INDIO, CALIFORNIA -- Spent $1800.00 for washer and dryer and before it was 3 yrs old had to have repairs. The washer does not get clothes clean and I told Sears this right after we purchased it, they would do nothing. I have spoke to Maytag and to Sears but they said I had to pay for the repair and that I should buy a warranty. There is just 2 of us, no children so clothes do not get very dirty but the washer does not let enough water in to get the clothes washed properly. I have been a Maytag owner all my life, never had any problems with Maytag before but will never buy another Maytag product nor will I deal with Sears again. The customer is no longer important to them anymore.
