Poor Quality

PENNSYLVANIA -- I was always a GE Hotpoint person when it came to appliances and had a GE refrigerator for 21 years when it broke. I needed a new one and with all the commercials about how great Maytag I was open to something new. I went to Sears and being a single mom they had a Maytag for sale at a reasonable price I could afford. It was the size I needed with a large freezer. It seemed the perfect size having two boys who like to eat. Now 2 1/2 years later the motor went in the freezer and needs to be repaired.

I cannot believe it, I only had it over two years when the last one I had lasted 21 years. I had spine surgery last year, so I have been out of work for a year. I cannot afford a new refrigerator and cannot even afford the repair for this one. I tried to find who is the President and CEO of Maytag, but am not having any luck at that.

I NEED a refrigerator, but how do I get this one fixed. I will keep trying to find a name so I can write to the President and CEO with this complaint and hopefully (although I am not hopeful) I can get some help. I also cannot believe the poor quality of this appliance which means this company has gone downhill and all those commercials are a lie, being a Maytag does not mean it will last or be good quality.

Matag Refrigerator - Junk
By -

AVENEL, NEW JERSEY -- I purchased a top of the line Jenn-Air fridge for almost 2,000.00 dollars. I got the extended warranty through a third party. Ever since I brought this fridge I have had nothing but problems. Thanksgiving evening we lost everything in fridge due to it becoming warm. The repair service could not come until 5 days later. The problem was found but parts had to be ordered, another 6 days have passed and I still have no fridge. The repair service was not able to schedule me an appointment for another week. This fridge was purchased May of 03.

Trying to contact Maytag is like pulling teeth, they state not their problem.... warranty problem. I still find it a Maytag problem when you buy garbage and they do not live up to their name. Please be careful what you purchase and do not make the same mistake I did!

Not so bad

BASTROP, TEXAS -- My Maytag refrigerator, $2000 plus French doors with freezer on the bottom and ice and water in the door, broke down after the 14th month of use, with an oft reported problem (on the internet) of flashing door lights and clapping ice door and loss of cooling. I had the Home Depot extended warranty (thank goodness) handled by A&E factory repair service.

A&E was maligned badly by many comments on the internet, but I found them to be well equipped and did the repair efficiently, first time, didn't have to wait for a part to be ordered. The refrigerator is working fine now and the technician said that the replacement part was "new and improved" because of problems with the original. My contact with Maytag was polite and helpful. They told me how to get the disturbing clapping of the icemaker to cease, and I had a response by email from Maytag apologizing for the inconvenience. I felt better than I expected about the whole process. I still wish it hadn't happened!

My Maytag Refrigerator and Its Problems
By -

HAMPTON, GEORGIA -- I purchased my refrigerator in Sept. 2005. 2 months later, in November, the fan that blows cold air up to cool the refrigerator quit working - meaning I had a functional freezer, but no functional refrigerator. Now, 20 months later, it has the same problem. I was told it was an evaporator and control board problem. Upon some internet research - it appears I'm not the only one to have had these problems with the exact same refrigerator.

And, at least with my local Maytag repair center, they don't carry these parts on the service trucks to fix your fridge - their technicians come to assess to the problem, order parts, and fix it 2+ days later - meaning if your fridge breaks on a Friday like mine did, you have to wait a week to have a functional one. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have purchased this product. I hope you don't make the same mistake I did. Go spend your $2000 on something that doesn't break down within 2 months of purchase. And if you do decide to spend the money on the extended warranty - it'll be worth it.

Bad Product, but "service" was ABOMINABLE

FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Purchased a Maytag Ice2O refrigerator on 4/20/06. It quit on 6/16/06. First service call 6/17. Could not be repaired because both circuit boards required for fix needed to be ordered. On 6/20 tech never showed up. Called Maytag and was told service call had been cancelled and parts order had been cancelled. No reason provided. No call to notify me. Parts reordered with assurance tech would have them for 6/24 service call. Different tech shows up 6/24 but with no parts. Called again and asked supervisor to call me (they said none were there that Saturday). No one has ever called me. I returned the thing and would never recommend Maytag.

The product looks nice, but be aware of these things. The water in the door is not chilled. The handle on the freezer is cheap plastic (on the black 'fridge) and flexes every time it's opened. It was VERY noisy. Because air in the refrigerator comes out at only one point food on the top left shelf freezes. Maytag service was disgraceful. They should be ashamed but it was quite obvious that once they thought they had my money I was SOL. Well, I wasn't and now I own a different brand. By the way, Maytag now owns MANY brands (Amana, Whirlpool, etc.) so be careful and check out what you buy.

Poor Product Quality, Shameful Customer Service
By -

GILBERT, ARIZONA -- My 4-year-old refrigerator is in need of repair for the 12th time in 4 years. The extended warranty states that they will replace the unit if it fails for the same part 3 times. It has met the requirements of replacement but Dependability Plus will not make a decision on replacing it. Meanwhile my family and I live out of coolers. They keep giving me excuses, they won't return my calls, and they forward me in circles with their phone system. They want to fix it again but if I let them then it will no longer be considered for replacement.

My warranty is up at the beginning of the year and I can't afford another $1,800 refrigerator, nor can my family continue to live without one while waiting on Maytag. This refrigerator has spoiled my food, flooded my house, and burnt up circuit boards. I'm lucky it didn't burn down my house. The refrigerator is a piece of junk and Maytag's customer service is worse than their product quality. I'm feeling frustrated and totally ripped off. I guess it's time to talk to an attorney about starting the arbitration.

Maytag Fire in Fridge
By -

I would never buy nor recommend Maytag to ANY consumer. Last week our 90 day old fridge burned while we slept.. Luckily the fire stayed contained to the fridge but the pictures are frightening... Maytag's been less than helpful. They do not make this fridge anymore (remember it is just a three month old fridge) and have nothing comparable so all replacements are an upgrade or downgrade... They want me to pay for an upgrade and if I take a downgrade I get no refund... I have spent four days on the phone trying to get this resolved and taken a day off work.

Maytag will never again grace my home nor that of most of my friends after they saw the pics and heard the horror stories of the warranty. By the way, they want to pay for no damage that has ensued as a result of the faulty refridge also... I am ANGRY!

My 7yr. Old Fridge Broke Down for the Second Time

My 7 year old Maytag fridge broke down for the second time due to computer board failure. There are no replacement parts to be found until possibly February. This means I shall be without a fridge for more than 4 months. When I contacted Whirlpool customer service, I was basically told too bad. The alternative to waiting for a part would be to purchase a new fridge and Whirlpool would give me $75.00 towards a new one. That means an outlay of $2225.00 or more on my part. Because that it was out of warranty, they wanted no part of my problem.

Once a company gets your money for an appliance, they don't care what happens after that. I have written twice to the CEO of Whirlpool and gotten no response. Customer service and good will mean nothing to corporations anymore.

I had a 34 day old Maytag Fridge Model M1TXE6MYW01. The compressor went bad. I called customer service, 48 hours later a repairman came to my home to repair this Fridge, said it needed a new compressor. 3 days later when the compressor arrived the tech said the fridge is unrepairable, due to other leaks in the hoses and leaking seal inside of cabinet of the fridge. How nice, it's over 30 days old the Home depot won't return it and I am stuck now. What do I do? I will never buy a Maytag product again. I will be calling my charge card to deny payment on this piece of junk.

Rip-Off On Repair Parts And Just Very Poor Reliability Of Anything They Make

I bought a Maytag side by side Model (MZD2766GEW) in 2002. This refrigerator has had the ice maker repaired 4 times and replaced completely replaced once. Of course all the problems started right around 2 weeks post warranty. It was recalled for fire hazard, with the compressor. Now the little round piece that open to all dispensing of ice broke. This very small round piece of plastic around at the most $1.50 piece only is available in a kit that cost 72.00.

Beware of all products that Whirlpool produces. Look up Whirlpool and be amazed at all the different product they produce, under all the other brand names I am deeply concerned. Beware of all Maytag PRODUCTS. I have a stove, washer & dryer and dishwasher all bought at the same time. They all have had numerous problems.
