Poor Product Poor Customer Service

MELBOURNE, FLORIDA -- Very Poor Service. I plan to visit every site I can and poorly rate your product and service because of what has happen.

I bought my washer in Sept 07. It stopped working in December. The repair service, "All Star", came out and said I needed a timer, motor and transmission. I waited 3 weeks and had to get one of the parts myself from Maytag. The service was rescheduled for January 10th. All Star came back out and said they were not going to replace the transmission they ordered because it was too difficult and while trying to replace the timer, they broke the knob on the appliance. Upset with the situation I called Maytag and spoke to a supervisor. I explained the circumstances and told them I have waited all this time, they sent out a horrible service technician, the appliance was only 3 months old and should not have all these problems. I explained I already had to take off two days of work and I requested a new replacement washer.

What do you they said. SORRY WE CAN ONLY SEND OUT SOMEONE TO REPLACE THE PARTS. Who cares I have to take off another day of work or that this machine had major problems after only 3 months.

To top that off, when I asked to speak to the supervisor above her, I was told I would have to write a letter. I guess the supervisor's supervisors are afraid to talk to unhappy consumers. As a side note the reason I went with Maytag again, is because my first one lasted 20 years.

I will never buy another Maytag product and plan to submit this information to every consumer review site on the web I can. I hope my efforts with spreading the word about this helps prevent another consumer from going through what I have had to experience. I would like a response to this email so I may post Maytag's answer with my above comment so the consumers can judge for themselves whether or not to buy from Maytag.

are you sure this "all star" was not A&E service? It sure does sound like their MO.Horrible service, incompetent technicians, having to wait forever to get parts, and service
qualityappliance on 2008-01-11:
Sorry Steve, this time it doesn't look like we can blame it on A&E, there is a Allstar in that area.

Joe, You have other servicers in your area, go to www.whirlpool.com and find a servicer in your area. As Steve mentioned it would probably be in your best interest to avoid A&E.

It is highly unlikely that the timer, motor and transmission all went bad on a 3 month old washer. After you get the washer repaired be sure to report All Star to Whirlpool, ask for contact information for the area field service manager.

Good luck, and sorry to say but there are some worthless independents out there also.
wpcsrepca on 2008-02-11:
I think it's about time that people like you stop whining about the customer service that one repair man gives you. Do you think you are the only person that's had bad service? People like you must have nothing better to do then sit online and surf from site to site just o slander the name of the biggest appliance company in the world? Get a life and if you hate Maytag so bad don't buy it anymore. And another thing? did you once ever stop and think about returning the appliance to the store where you bought it? I've heard horror stories about certain retailers who have been selling used or refurbished appliances and not brand new ones. What's to say that you even got a new appliance from the retailer? And how about the fact that you could have broken the machine yourself? do you have kids? do you know what happens when small items get stuck in the
washer? People do stupid things when they have a warranty. maybe you just need to be more careful with your things? and stop blaming everyone else for your stupidity just because you're bored!!
Frackiewicz on 2008-07-27:
I have to agree with Joe - Maytag customer service is BAAAAD.

As far as returning the appliance to the store - well, our retailer (Home depot) won't take back our refrigerator without Maytag's approval. We tried. It didn't matter to them that we've already had it "repaired" five times in the first month of ownership - until Maytag authorizes the return, they won't take it back.

I purchased the Centennial washer and have not been happy I called Corp after 3 months and asked them to apply my purchase price onbetter washer. I was told no and they would not work with me on another washer. This washer does not clean! I have to wash everything twice to get it clean! I left a kleenex in my pants pocket and it did not even shred! Not happy with Maytag after 40 years.

Bearings Went Out For The Second Time In My Washer.

Rating: 1/51
Getting close to retirement I decided to upgrade all of my appliances in the home. Maytag washer and dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher and glass top range with convection oven. Boy was I in for a rude awakening! The washer bearings went out and had to be repaired at a cost of $400. Had to put in a new ice maker in the refrigerator and that cost me $125. The oven is not working properly. Now the bearings went out of the washer AGAIN! All of the appliances are not over 3 - 4 years old.

I will NEVER purchase another Maytag product. Period! The company offered no recourse for my problems. Customer service is a joke along with the quality of their products.

Maytag Washer Nightmare
Posted by on
Rating: 1/51
POTSDAM, NEW YORK -- I bought a Maytag washer from Lowell's almost two years ago, and I have been having problems with this washer ever since. This is the second repair of this washer. Maytag advertises that you will have peace of mind that Maytag will fix your washer 24/7 if your washer breaks down under their extended service warranty. what a bunch of s***.

I called under my plan and they will not even try to have a "service provider" fix the problem. They tell me that they can't find a service provider in my area, why did they sell me this warranty if they don't have a service provider in the area? Also, I got this washer fixed the year before by one of their service providers, but they seem not to have one this year.

I've complained to just about everyone you could complain to and I am getting no where. I am seriously considering a professional complaint service to resolve this problem.

How do I start, We bought all new Maytag appliances when we remodeled our home. We purchased from Home Depot as well (Talent, Oregon). The fridge,Stove, Washer, Dryer, microwave. The first to give us problems was the Fridge. I noticed that there was water coming out the bottom. I opened the freezer drawer and there was ice on the bottom. It was so full that when the water was leaking out it was draining out to the floor. I called and they said because we did not purchased the extended plan they would not cover the repairs. So I did an internet search and found the president of the company's email address and threw a fit. They sent someone out to fix it, Here we are not a year later and it is doing it again. On top of it all the new Washer we bought is not working. It is not cleaning the clothes and it is not draining out the water. We have to barrow a friend's washer which is 25 years old. We took our new one out and it is sitting in the garage, I called and got the same story, "Sorry the warentee expired and there is nothing we can do but, If you pay 400.00 to get an extension we can fix it". Are you kidding me I responded, I have our old appliances that have been in the house we bought 16 years ago and they are still working, We upgrade and every thing is broken within 2-3 years. Needless to say I am so mad at Maytag and will never buy their products again. Now I have to waste my time emailing my complaints to get my appliances fixed again..... So my advice to you is do the same go to WWW.Maytag.com write an email like I did tell them you will spread the word to all you know that Maytag does not stand by their products. Good Luck

Bad Bearing - Great Help
Posted by on
Rating: 4/51
ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA -- Our Maytag washer recently started making a lot of noise during the spin cycle. I was able to determine that the bearing on the drum is bad. My washer is 5 years old and I was very pleasantly surprised when I contacted Maytag. While the first woman I spoke to said there was nothing they could do for me because it was out of warranty the supervisor I spoke to immediately asked what she could do to help me with this problem.

When I said if you get me the parts I will do the repair she ordered them and they are on their way. She also informed me that part of the problem is the use of non H. E. detergent and using too much detergent.

THANK YOU MAYTAG!!!

Nice to see a compliment about Maytag for a change.
Bug on 2013-04-13:
If you return I'd be interested in knowing how use of incorrect detergent and or too much causes bearing failure. The drum is a sealed unit from the bearing and soap viscosity is about the same. Increased foaming from non H.E. is virtually resistance free. Not saying you are wrong, just curious how they came to that conclusion.

The Maytag Washer MVWC200YW1
Posted by on
Rating: 1/51
We bought this washer less than a year ago and have numerous complaints including: 1) load capacity 2) deepness of tub 3)time to run cycle and most recently 4) leaks oil onto our clothes.

This Maytag replaced another Maytag washer we had owned for over 25 years but could no longer get parts for. We had been warned by the repairman that Maytag wasn't the same company and he was right. It is a disgrace that the name is put on the appliance because it is not anything like the original Maytags. I am ready to just junk it but hate to pay out again for another washer.

I'm not familiar with this exact model, but I am aware of a model MVWC200XW. This is part of Maytag's Centennial line and is considered a crossover product between standard and high efficient washes.

The first misconception is that any east lasts 25 years commonly. They do not. One note tries for a good decade now. This is still a design that you want to be careful of overfiling ad it can be damaged by doing so. My concern is that, whereas you've suggested the capacity is not as big as you would have liked, that you may have overcooked the tub causing a forum of damage.

Although I like Maytag, if you're considering replacing it, you might do so with the LG 5170 or 5070 top loading washer. The tub is large and they've created a wash system calledWaveforce which does a superior job in cleaning.

HATE My Washer

I bought my Maytag Bravo washer a couple years ago. I thought with the Maytag name and conserving water it would be good for me and the environment. Wow was I wrong. I HATE this washer. It doesn't clean the clothes. I have to hand wash things after washing them. It doesn't get the laundry detergent out for sensitive skin.

I have to use the bulky cycle to get anything clean and that takes a LONGGG time, double rinsing is a whole morning event for one wash. I want to take this washer to The Dump and get my old washer back. I will never buy another Maytag or energy water saver washer. Thanks I just needed to vent this morning before I hand wash the clothes.

Sadly Maytag is no longer a quality product. Notice how you no longer see the lonely Maytag repairman commercials as the company knows they no longer have that claim. Bought a Maytag dryer a few years ago based on the quality the name used to mean. Two complete drums destroyed and needing replaced in less than five years taught me quickly never to trust the company again. I will never buy a Maytag product again. I'm sorry this has to be your experience with the company also.

I have a Maytag 2200 front loader 14 months old and already having problems with it. The door is locked and won’t come open. I have tried everything to fix it, contacted Maytag and the first words out of their mouth was did I purchase the extended warranty. I shouldn’t have had too I said this is supposed to be a good washer but I guess I was mistaken. It has shaken, vibrated and now this. I am thoroughly disillusioned with this product.

I had a Neptune and wore it out so I went back to Maytag. Wish now I hadn’t.

I bought Maytag because to me they have always been the flagship of appliances. Looking at the different forums on the internet now I see different. Cheap overseas labor is the cause for this.

Hunk of Junk Washer
Posted by on
Rating: 1/51
CLEVELAND, TENNESSEE -- I purchased a Maytage High Efficiency washer which is a piece of junk. I could have thrown my money in the garbage and received as much. Washer does not do what it states in manual, doesn't clean clothes well also there is no way to dispense fabric softener and Maytag couldn't care less. I have talked to several people at the company and written letters. They made a washer that does not live up to what instruction manual states it will do and will do nothing to compensate me for selling me this piece of junk.

I have talked on telephone and tried every suggestion they have given me, to no avail. I also read other reviews, regarding the same washer and everyone is as unsatisfied as I am. Why is this company allowed to continue to rip off innocent consumers? Beware and stay away from Maytag washers. I thought it was a good name so I felt safe in buying one. I am so totally frustrated by Maytag's lack of concern for their customers and saddened that they will do nothing to help me. They told me to use the Downy ball for fabric dispensing but the Downy site clearly states it cannot be used in high efficiency washers.

I have ruined articles by using it due to it not being able to be used in this insufficient washer. I own an expensive hunk of junk in my laundry room. When I have to do laundry I become very depressed because I know it will be a struggle with this junky washer.

Maytag Does Not Stand Behind Their Products

BRENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN -- I will never buy another Maytag product. We have not even had our front load washer for two years and this is the 3rd time that the drum needs to be replaced. It broke the first time 5 months after we bought it, it took 6 weeks to repair. Then it broke 4 months later and took another 6 weeks to repair. The machine was defective from day 1, and Maytag has not replaced it. It is broken again, 9 months after it was "fixed" last. Fortunately I purchased an extended warranty, because I knew it would not last, and Maytag would say, oh too bad, it is no longer under warranty.

This will not ease your pain and frustration but it's not just Maytag appliances. Look at the reviews for Kenmore, Whirlpool, Kitchen-Aid, Electrolux etc. The poor quality and lack of customer service exists with all of these products. It's really a crap shoot what to buy then the extended warranty is filled with holes and exclusions. You pay big bucks expecting quality then get screwed. Good post.

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- I bought a new Maytag HE top loader washer with the blooming effect!! The salesman said it was the best deal! BUT it Sucks!!.. it does not move the clothes so it does not clean correctly and because the clothes stays in the same spot throughout the wash cycle, they come out WRINKLED! WRINKLED!! Even another rinse cycle with softeners does not take out the WRINKLES..I had to IRON out the wrinkles.. and Lowe's won't exchange or return. MAYTAG CORPORATION is a JOKE!!,,,,DON'T BUY APPLIANCES AT THE HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE!! AND DON'T BUY MAYTAG!! They no longer are a TOP Company.

danie1442 on 2012-06-22:
It sounds as if you should have read into that machine and reviewed your choices before you went to the store. The sales people will try to sell you anything. Knowing what you want is how you arm yourself to deal with this.

I could understand why they didn't take it back. It isn't defective it is just a lousy design. I don't think Lowe's should have to eat it just because you changed your mind after using the product.

You are asking the company to have to deal with a used item? They would be taking a lost. How is that fair to them because you did not read into the appliances before you went to buy it. That machine is not cheap either.

I would say that if anyone is in the market to make a purchase that big (or smaller) they should research it. Don't let a salesperson decide for you. The saying "knowledge is power" is still true today.

Just think, you buy a car, keep it for however long and then call the dealership and say you want to return the car because it doesn't live up to your expectations. If they did take it back, it would cost you.

Bravos X500X worst washer EVER

Rating: 1/51
Bought this washer and matching dryer at Best Buy Oct 2011. At first it seemed fine but after about 6 weeks, started noticing white residue all over dark clothing. As I wear mostly dark colors this is totally unacceptable. I use only HE liquid detergent and fabric softener in the appropriate measures.

Using extra rinse for every load but doesn't help. Use the Afresh product recommended by manufacturer regularly but all to no avail. Shocking that Maytag would sell such an inferior product. Always thought they had a reputation for quality which played a part in my buying decision, but would never purchase another product from them. Was $650 on sale and consider this the biggest waste of money ever. DO NOT BUY BRAVOS WASHERS! If you have a problem you'll get nothing in the way of assistance from their laughingly called Customer Service.

I think it's common knowledge now that Maytag no longer has the quality or customer service that built its fine reputation. I'm sorry you didn't do some research before buying the washer because you would have known to avoid that brand.

It sounds like you've already contacted customer service to no avail. There is probably nothing they can due to remedy the problem and just expect you to live with it. Have you tried going back to Best Buy and explaining the situation to them? Maybe they will let you exchange the washer for something different or help you get assistance from Maytag.
GenuineNerd on 2012-03-10:
If you want a "good" Maytag, maybe check used appliance places or classified ads, and find a used (pre-Whirlpool) Maytag top load washer from the 1970's or earlier, and pay to have it repaired if need be. Those old Maytags were real workhorses...not like the planned obsolescence made today. And because so many were made that used a similar design, parts and service should still be easy to find.
Venice09 on 2012-03-10:
Excellent advice, Nerd! My original washing machine (Kenmore) from the 70's was also a workhorse. I stupidly gave it away because I wanted a new one. One of the worst decisions I ever made. I'm convinced it's still out there somewhere in working condition.
GenuineNerd on 2012-03-10:
Even Whirlpool used to make good washers. The quality and reliability went down when the amount of electronics used in them went up. Too many things to go wrong. Give me old fashioned knob controls anytime. Sears Kenmore washers were made by Whirlpool.
Venice09 on 2012-03-10:
My original Kenmore washer might have been made by Whirlpool. I'm not sure. But my second one was definitely made by Whirlpool, and it didn't work as well as the first one. I think that was sometime in the early to mid '90's. It was when washing machines in general were starting to become less reliable.

I agree about electronics and avoid it as much as possible. Too much to go wrong, and too often the fix is unknown or parts are not available. Too much of a gamble. I know I'm old-fashioned, but I prefer to stick with what I know works.
ok4now on 2012-03-11:
What's really amazing is the high prices for Maytag, Whirlpool and Kenmore. Buy the washer/dryer combo and you're out $2K, before the mandatory extended warranty. What's interesting is these brands are the most complained about. I'm with Venice & GenuineNerd on this one, simpler is better. Forget the bells & whistles, the older machines were built well and lasted with very few problems.
SpeedQueenforever on 2012-03-11:
Electronics are great until you start to have problems with them. Then you worry each time that you start your washer that something is going to go wrong. This is how you start to think, because it's happened to you before.

I bought a Speed Queen Commercial Top loading washing machine with two speeds. The second speed is for the gentle cycle. It's model #AWN412SP111TWO1

I used to own the Whirlpool Cabrio, which I sold practically new even though I had owned it for several years, as almot everything on it had been replaced after it had failed.

It didn't take me long to adjust to the older technology of the top loader again, especially because my clothes were coming out whiter and brighter. They actually get clean now.

My washing machine came with a full 3 year warranty. Also, you can't just find Speed Queen's sold everywhere and I was told, that's because they want to be in control of who repairs their washers and dryers. This company has so much common sense and laundry appliances are the only things that they manufacture so they can keep the quality in.

I use Original Tide HE in my washing machine. I was told by the Tide peole that it's for all temperatures. I add it before adding the clothes one at a time around the agitator. Guess what? I'm actually able to do about the same size load that I did with the Cabrio.

My laundry doesn't come out of the washer sopping wet like it did with other top loading washing machines. They come out just right. They're not spin as dry as with the Cabrio, but my clothes don't come out a wrinkled, tangled mess either like they did with the Cabrio. I can actually go alittle more green and hang up most of the clothing that I wash, because it's barely wrinkled.

Also, my dryer does not take any longer with each load of towels or other laundry that I dry, than it did with the laundry that came out of the Cabrio.

With my Speed Queen washing machine, I wash with the confidence that something electronic isn't going to fail. I also have the confidence that my clothes are getting clean and my whites are white again. Something I hadn't seen in years. w

When my dryer needs to be replaced, I'm replacing it with a Speed Queen.

My advice is to either buy a new Speed Queen or look for an old Maytag if you want a quality made washing machine. I wouldn't take a new Cabrio if someone gave it to me or any other washing machine on the market today that isn't a Speed Queen. I just got tired of wasting my money on appliances that didn't last. I have a full 3 year manufacturers warranty with my washing machine.

For the record, I am not SpeedQueenforever!.. But I hope I get the opportunity to write a similar comment very soon because it states all the reasons I plan on buying a Speed Queen top loader. Just waiting for the old washer to surrender and die.
beverly on 2013-12-17:
My advise...stay away from Maytag....white residue all over dark clothes...silly remedies from customer service....was now told to call repairman, but will charge if not due to part failure...also unable to use fabric softener in machine....must use Downy ball with this machine and it does not empty completely...when removing clothes fabric softener spills on items and they have to be rewashed...washing clothes is now a CHORE with this new Maytag Centennial.Buy another brand,,at least for the customer service.
