Definitely not in "good hands"
By -

I've been insured with Allstate for over 20 years, on November 16, 2009. I was hit by a guy who also had Allstate insurance. I assumed it would be an easy claim to handle since we both had the same insurance company...and I couldn't have been more wrong. They have HORRIBLE customer service, the absolute worst I've ever dealt with. Their claim agents are cocky, arrogant, and take rudeness to a new level.

I caught the agent handling my claim in several lies about various things and he accused me of being a liar when I was speaking to him about my settlement. This agent came right out and told me that they were looking out for the guy who hit me rather than me, the victim. We went weeks and weeks without hearing from them regarding my claim, I faxed them all my medical bills to speed things up (like they told me to), that still didn't work. Then when they decided to go through my paperwork, there were a few things I hadn't sent and rather than calling me to tell me this, they left it alone.

So finally after a month and a half of hearing nothing from them, I called them and THEN they told me they were missing papers. I have never in my life seen an insurance company handle a claim in such a poor manner. Here it is April 16th, 5 months exactly to the day of the accident and the claim STILL has not been settled even though I've been trying to do so for the last 2 months. On Monday I am canceling any and all coverage with Allstate, that includes all 7 of my cars and my home, and taking my business and money elsewhere.

Couldn't Be Happier in CT

MANCHESTER, CONNECTICUT -- I've read many complaints about customer service issues with Allstate, so I felt I had to write a compliment for my agent in CT. I have had Allstate for 3 years now and have never had an issue with my agent, Paul ** in Manchester. When I first met him I told him that I was shopping for new car insurance and that it was my first time purchasing my own policy. He explained everything to me without using a condescending tone as others had and made sure that the coverage I was buying was enough for me.

Since then every time I call the office they know who I am and are always happy to answer my questions. I was involved in a minor accident about 2 years ago and the other person also had Allstate. The agents handled everything and my agent made sure my car was repaired in a timely manner. No issues at all! To top it off, when I was thinking of getting a new car my agent took the time to go through the pros and cons of the cars I was interested in, giving me information on safety ratings, blue book values, etc. I would recommend Mr. ** to anyone.

Allstate Bait And Switch

I paid my 6 months at $390 cash in full. Then guess what happened? I got a bill 2 weeks later stating that my policy rate had increased. I had NOTHING NEGATIVE on my record. The bill stated it was due soon. I totally disregarded the letter because I thought there was no way they could do that after they made the offer and I excepted it. I was driving and got pulled over. For what? A SUSPENDED LICENSE!

I guess because I refused to pay them anymore they took all the money I gave them for 6 months and cancelled my policy a month and a half after I paid them. They have ruined my driving record causing me to have to pay 200 extra ever 6 months. A suspension is not taken lightly. The embarrassment of having my name in the paper for being pulled over for that is also embarrassing. If I had any money for a lawyer I would use it. But I'm poor and they took me for all I had. I was only 22 and had just moved out on my own. It was a true bait and switch.

Would Not Pay Claim
By -

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA -- My vehicle was broke into and items were removed from the back seat. I took pictures, contacted the local law enforcement (would not come to house had to file Online), and contacted my Insurance agent. Did everything you have been instructed to do. I emailed the photos and pictures of the items stolen to the claims adjuster.

She states, "Allstate will only cover the bag but, not the electronic items taken." Then proceeds to tell me the bag is covered as well as the items in the bag. Well, "I tell her the items were in the bag". She say, "I must talk to my manager." I received a call and they will not cover anything but the bag. The rest is on my homeowners insurance. Another way for an insurance company to not take care of their clients. I am looking for another Insurance company at this time.

Allstate Fraud
By -

HYATTSVILLE, MARYLAND -- On June 5, 2007, our neighbor's tree came crushing down and struck our car. Our neighbor filed a claim with his insurer, Allstate, and informed Allstate that his tree had demolished our car. I called Allstate to file a claim against his homeowner's policy. Firstly, I was transferred from homeowner to auto and back.

Finally, I spoke with an Allstate rep who told me that a person by the name of Ms. ** was handling the claim. I spoke with Ms. ** and she told me that she would not honor our claim because the damage had been caused by wind and that I needed to file a claim with my insurance company. I informed Ms. ** that there had not been any type of wind when the tree came down, but rather our neighbor's tree was rotting throughout the inside and the steady rain had loosened the tree. I asked her to obtain a copy of the police report as well as check with the Department of Transportation official who had told me that the tree had been upended by the rain.

Ms. ** then told me that she did not have to and said "I am closing this claim and will hang up on you, because the policyholder claims that it was wind damage" and promptly hung up on me. How can a claim be denied on the basis of wind, when there was no wind??? We are cancelling our car insurance as well as our homeowners policy with Allstate, and filing a complaint with the Maryland Insurance Commission. Allstate is notoriously bad in denying legitimate claims.

Claim Handling - Renters Insurance Policy
By -

QUEENS COUNTY, NEW YORK -- Stay away from ALLSTATE Renters Insurance. We suffered a burst pipe resulting in a flooded basement. (This happened on Feb 7, 2007). While the response time for an Allstate contracted recovery company was quick and they installed fans and a dehumidifier once the water receded and an Allstate adjuster was here on Feb. 16, 2007 to inspect, we are now approaching TWO MONTHS (2) since Allstate received our Loss Inventory on March 3, 2007. We have not received even one piece of paper, or an email acknowledgement, nor even a single unsolicited phone call from ALLSTATE with regard to our Loss Claim. We of course have called at least once a week.

On March 23, 2007 (fully 3 weeks after receiving our inventory) we spoke to the manager of the Adjusters, who told us that our Claim Diary was empty. We sent our inventory again, to both our adjuster AND the manager. Since then we have spoken weekly to one or the other individual and each time been told that they are "Very Busy", "were on vacation" "sent out the inventory for research" "You should hear from us sometime next week." Meanwhile we still have nothing in writing, or email. I do have a phone record of each phone call. PATHETIC. You are NOT IN GOOD HANDS WITH ALLSTATE. You are balled up and thrown away into the round file.

Life Threatening Cab Ride
By -

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- Do not get into a cab with the name Allstate Cab on it at the Phoenix airport. The cab number was 135. We almost got into two collisions while the cab driver was talking on his cell phone. He would not slow down even when asked politely. He said that the car was new and he wanted to see how fast it could go. Broke many traffic violations. Could not speak understandable English. Drove away while I was still getting out of the car. Yelled at us. I was shaking by the time that I got out of the car. Plus he charged us $15 dollars to go 2 miles. I was scared to death and am trying to get the cab driver fired.

Passive Harassment

ALMA, ARKANSAS -- Three weeks ago a driver darted out directly in front of me as I was traveling on a state highway. I was driving north as he pulled out of a parking lot on my right (East) side. He was attempting to make a left hand turn and didn't look in my direction. As he stomped on his accelerator of his Dodge 1 ton truck all I could do was hit my horn and jam on the brakes. My beloved car was totaled. Rumor has it he is driving a NEW truck. After jumping through all their hoops (with my many injuries) still no transportation or offer of help in any form.

Cash Back Checks
By -

GULF BREEZE,, FLORIDA -- I keep seeing the commercials on TV about Allstate giving rewards for safe driving not having tickets and stuff like that. On their commercial they say they give you checks back approx every 6 months. Maybe they do give it back to some people but we had Allstate for years and no accidents, no tickets and yes, you guessed it, no checks. We have yet to receive one check from them except a refund check because I dropped them from my auto insurance when they dropped my house insurance. This particular agent is in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
