Blender Attachment Problems
By -

VERNON, BC, CANADA -- I have issues with the Bosch Universal food processor. Several years ago I purchased this appliance for food processing and making dough. The bowel attachments for these purposes work reasonably well and I was satisfied with the power and convenience of the unit.

Recently I started using the blender attachment for making fruit and vegetable juices. Before this I had rarely used the blender attachment. I am very disappointed in the blade-drive coupling of the blender attachment. In the last two years this component has failed twice to the point of having to be replaced. In one case the blade slipped off its shaft making the blender useless.

In the second case the blade shaft rides up and dislodges the coupling from the drive gear. It doesn't return to its normal position without emptying the jug and manually pushing it back down. Eventually the coupling teeth have worn away to the point that the blade-coupling unit is useless. This shouldn't happen with a quality appliance. This component should have a much longer life span. The component is expensive and difficult to purchase without having to buy the jug as well. Warranty has expired and Bosch customer service won't provide any support.

Now I have to make a decision to either purchase another drive-coupling component for the blender (possibly a jug as well) or to purchase a totally different appliance just for blending. When I first purchased the Bosch Universal I expected it to be a robust appliance that would stand up to home use for a long time. This is not the case with the blender attachment.
