GE Appliances Are Terrible!!

Rating: 1/51

I have purchased 6 brand new appliances from GE in the last two years, most of them Monogram. Of the 6 products, 3 have been defective and required multiple service visits to fix the problem. I have had problems with the refrigerator, dryer and also oven. Refrigerator Freezer door did not seal (4 service visits to replace). Dryer made horrible noise (4 service visits to replace motor). Oven broiler does not work (currently sitting at home for 4 hours waiting for service tech to arrive). THESE WERE ALL BRAND NEW APPLIANCES!!

I have already had to waste an entire week for service on these various appliances. A week out of my office with no income because of these defective products and yet GE is not held accountable in any fashion. Additionally their customer service is terrible to boot. Warning to all people considering purchasing GE appliances, they may look shiny and pretty on the outside BUT THEY ARE GUARANTEED TO COST YOU IN THE LONG RUN BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WORK! After all why pay for appliances that do not do the job they were designed to do! Run, not walk away if you are ever tempted to buy a GE product.

Company Response 04/25/2013:

Hello, this is Donna from GE. I'm sorry to hear about your experience with your refrigerator, dryer and oven. Can you take a moment to email us at eResponse@ge.com please? We would like to take a look at this for you.

GE Monogram Cooktops Are Fire Hazard
By -

GE MONOGRAM Gas Cooktops with electrical ignition systems are a major fire hazard. I accidentally spilled some coffee on my 3 year-old Monogram cooktop and the ignition system went haywire. Smoke started to come out of the burner knobs and I smelled an electrical fire starting. If I had not quickly crawled under the counter and unplugged the unit, I would have had a fire in my house.

This is a serious design flaw in GE MONOGRAM stove tops and a consumer danger. When I called ** in customer service, her reply was, “You should not have spilled anything on the unit!” "Not our fault," says GE, "that you almost caused a fire!" On top of it all, GE now wants $342 to repair the unit (it only originally cost $850). Since there is a strong probability that I will eventually spill something else at some point in the future, I am replacing the unit with a more reliable, reputable and SAFER brand!

GE Monogram Range
By -

Christmas Day 2009 my Monogram range oven door locked for cleaning in the middle of cooking dinner and would not reopen. After waiting hours on hold for a service person I finally got a GE repair person to visit 11 days later and try to open the oven door with a wire hanger. I was contacted 2 days later saying that my range would have to be replaced in lieu of repairing.

Now after 3 weeks, hours on the phone and speaking to over a dozen people it seems I will have to spend over $4000 out of pocket to replace my Monogram Range since it turns out GE will only pay 80% of the price they found post online from a company 1000 miles away and that they no longer have available. What a joke GE and Assurant Solutions have turned out to be.

GE Monogram Appliances Disappoint
By -

I agree with every review I have read regarding the poor quality of GE Monogram appliances. After Katrina I had an all new kitchen and decided to upgrade to GE Monogram - my dishwasher has been serviced 4+ times and my refrigerator freezer has NEVER produced ice properly and just had to spend 400+ to replace the motor in the freezer - and it still is not working. Must take more time off - have more repairmen come out, etc. I, too, am wishing for my old Sears appliances - cheaper and boy did they work!!! Am not buying GE any more.

GE Repair Service - Take it or Leave It
By -

Well, if you want to keep taking days off waiting for a repair person who never shows, without even a courtesy call, then choose GE for your appliances. GE appliance was sending an in-warranty repair person to my home. First time, no show - no call, second time, called and said technician was called away and would not come. I insisted on a Saturday appointment so I would not have to take off additional work, and was told no problem, but the service call would be on a volunteer basis!!! Picture that.

When you call the supervisor you are basically told take it or leave it, the next appointment is scheduled and there are no other options. Needless to say I have a few choice words for GE and they are not Merry Christmas.

Warning to Not Buy a GE Monogram Refrigerator, Especially at a Home Depot EXPO Store
By -

MARYLAND -- The purchase experience extended over weeks due to the mix ups at the Home Depot Expo store. Delivery and installation was a nightmare, the installation was never completed, missing parts, still missing. Several years later the refrigerator has never, correct never, fully functioned. Scheduling service is next to impossible, thus far impossible although I try to get a date weeks ahead, it's never available, and missing or incorrect parts are still missing and incorrect.

My unit is ready for the junk yard after 5 years of non-service. This has been a very expensive problem. I am a single user of the product and wear and tear/use has been only for myself. What if it would have been for a family of three or more. My ice maker holds old fashion ice trays for ice -- the ice maker don't function often, not at all the past year. None of the dispensers on the front function, just the light if by hand I screw-in and out a bulb for on and off. Good luck folks.

WINDERMERE, FLORIDA -- I bought this dishwasher along with $23,000 in GE Monogram appliances in my house. The lower rack rusted within a couple years and now is nearly fully rusted out. GE Parts lists the bottom rack alone for $350 (the top rack is $587). The combination of these two parts, that SHOULD BE nearly indestructible but are plainly incompetently manufactured, is about the price of a brand-new high end dishwasher. I would never buy another GE dishwasher again.

Worst Ever Refrigerator

This fridge is by far the worst appliance I have ever purchased!!! It has destroyed numerous food items and has cost me untold funds to attempt repairs which have never worked. How about a class action lawsuit?

Mildew Growing in the Refrigerator
By -

I have had a bad problem with mildew growing in my refrigerator. I have an all refrigerator GE Monogram. Paid a small fortune for it. I have never had a refrigerator get mold INSIDE it before. It appears on the shelves, on the walls, between the drawers. It's awful. I've call GE twice and they weren't any help at all. Has anyone else had a problem like this. It is so frustrating.

GE Monogram Gas Cooktop Makes Constant Humming Noise
By -

The cooktop makes a continual humming sound which GE engineers advise us is NORMAL. This is the transformer that provides spark to the burners. When the house is quiet at night, I can hear this thing humming from across the room. I have $20 products with plug-in transformers that are silent... GE engineers can't do the same on a $2,000 gas cooktop? Pathetic engineering. I hope we don't experience similar letdowns with the other new GE Monogram appliances in our kitchen, but I'm not taking this as a hopeful sign...
