Bad Customer Service and Refund Experience‏
By -

This complaint is regarding my return of damaged merchandise from Order Number ** of November 14, 2007. I have not been issued a refund from the item I returned via UPS on November 20, 2007 and I was told that I would have to wait until a "research request" was processed (10 days) then it would be issued (3-5 days). I spoke with a manager, Angela (**) on the phone January 10, 2008 and I've never been treated so badly by a customer service representative in all of my life. Here's an example: Angela said that it showed that a credit was issued, when I asked her when that credit was issued she firmly said "Do not interrupt me, mam".

She told me that the credit was issued on December 3rd, I explained that I called to follow up on my refund on that day and I was sent a return receipt on that day stating it would take 30 more days. I assume that Kmart doesn't record its customer service calls as the employees are free to treat customers so rudely. I then asked her if she could send me an email confirmation that the research request was made, she said “I don't know what good that will do".

Needless to say I was extremely disappointed in the KMART phone customer service. I've never had to wait this long for a refund for damaged merchandise and I still have no resolution. In addition, I was treated badly. I'm still waiting for my issue to be resolved. I'm a loyal customer and I hope to remain one. I am due a refund of $141.20.

I'll never shop at Kmart again!
By -

BURBANK, CALIFORNIA -- I just went shopping for their "big" Thanksgiving sale. I wanted to buy the Magellan GPS that was on sale, when I got there (less than 1 hour after they opened) it was gone, the sales person told me they had 3 PIECES that's it!! For 3 pieces they printed a huge ad on the first page, of course, HUGE SALE! Then we tried to shop for some clothes, not to mention only x sizes were on sale.

We got a few items on our cart and left it at the end of the aisle cause it was crowded, few seconds after, the cart was gone! An employee took it with all the our merchandise in it, gone! I really didn't feel like going again all over the store to get new items so I just left. This is unbelievable! I'll never shop at Kmart again, ever!!

Advertised Sales (Christmas Tree)
By -

OHIO -- I truly believe that Kmart runs sales knowingly without having the merchandise for purchase. Today there is a Christmas tree that is normally 69.99 that is on special only today for 39.99. I was at the store as soon as they opened their doors this morning and the first Kmart did not have the tree. They said they had not had any of this tree except the display in the store at all this year. They said they did not even think they were getting them in and you could not get a rain check for the price because it was a one day special for today. I asked if I could buy the floor sample and they said no.

I then went to a second Kmart early this morning which was only 10 minutes away and they said the same thing and no rain check. I then called a third Kmart about 25 minutes away and they just about said the same thing. They are offering one special Christmas item each day this week. They did not have this item in three stores as soon as the doors opened today. I could not get a rain check for the sale price because it will not be the day the special ran. Sounds like a scam to get people into the stores to me.

When and if the tree does come into the store they said that it will be at the 69.99 price, not the 39.99 sale price they offered today. This is not the first time this has happened to me. I believe that the Kmart stores are false advertising products that are not available just to get people in the stores. What a rip-off !!!!

Kmarts Excellent Employees and Service
By -

SOUTHWEST, FLORIDA -- I have shopped Kmart for many years. Their employees have always been very helpful and respectful. I have noticed that some customers not only at the service desk but also out in the store that seem not to know how to act. EMPLOYEES are there to serve you not be abused by customers. I am sure that 99% of returns are honored and customer problems solved to the customers satisfaction.

The people that have problems don't know how to read return policies (or are trying to get something for nothing). I recently overheard a lady tell her little girl that she should where what she was buying to return it after she wore them a couple of times and get new ones. Good mother not. Guess who pays for these people with higher prices.

CALIFORNIA -- You people. Some of you come it just to yell at us when you don't get your way. Some of you come to trash our store. Some of you can't read and some of you beat on your kids. The rest of you complain while you shop us. Let me tell you, the pressure comes from the button pushers at the top. They don't have a clue. They make the big bucks and the rocks roll downhill.

Years I work for this store and you know, my manager is a great person, in fact there are a few really wonderful people here I adore. It's hard enough to come up with reasons and excuses for big corporate moves to you people. Business is rough. The economy sucks. But we all have to work. So quit throwing your weight around and yelling at us. We all have to work - or I have to work to make sure all you couch potatoes enjoy your disability, welfare, and social security checks. Back at cha!

Retracted Advertised Offer
By -

Recently KMart advertised a month-long special offering a free $10 gift card at checkout when you bought a Duracell saver pack and two Procter and Gamble products. There were tear pads with the coupons to get this deal, at first out on end caps, and later hidden away at customer service because they hadn't printed enough for the demand. They had printed on them "limit one per purchase." So you could do the deal multiple times as long as you went back through the line.

Well, I guess after the first couple weeks they changed their minds and went back on the deal deciding to amend the offer to one per household and then shortly after that change required you to mail in your receipt to get the offer. Now, whether or not KMart has the legal obligation to honor its advertised offers is less to the point than keeping consumer confidence. The fact is that if they make an offer they should hold up their end of it. The coupons never said anything like "subject to change" etc. I hadn't stepped foot into a KMart for years before this offer, and now the whole experience has left a lasting negative impression that will no doubt keep me away for years to come.

Customer Service

TINLEY PARK, ILLINOIS -- I work at Kmart. I bought a 26 inch mongoose bike from there. When I got it home, the chain kept slipping off. So I took it back to exchange it. Sporting goods gave me a brand new bike in the box. When customer service did the exchange, the bar code wasn't scanning. So they used the upc from the original receipt.

When I got the second one home and took it out of the box, it was the wrong bike. They gave me a 24 inch bike instead of a 26 inch bike. The next day I went to exchange it again. They told me that they couldn't exchange the bike because the UPC on the box didn't match the receipt. I work there and they don't trust their employees let alone their customers. My advice is if you buy anything from Kmart, make sure it's the right product before you check out.

K-Mart & Harry Potter Book
By -

BURBANK, CALIFORNIA -- Just had to share my wonderful Midnight excursion to buy Deathly Hallows. We went to our local mall to go buy the last Harry Potter book Friday night. HUGE line, and because we did not pre-order no guarantee we would get a book. I remembered one of our grocery stores was going to have them, so we went there. Bit of a crowd, but not too bad. I just did not want to kill and hour in the grocery store.

I noticed the K-Mart next door was open. They had a party as well. Cookies and drinks, a coloring contest and lots of chairs set up! 12:01AM they opened the boxes. We were home by 12:10AM. Not bad considering my friend who went to one of the malls got home after 2:30AM. Kudos to K-Mart for this one!

Worst Diapers I Have Ever Purchased
By -

They do not fit well and they leak every time my one year old granddaughter urinates. They cannot hold up for even minimal use. Wal-Mart store brand are comparable in price but they hold up much better, and I have had no complaints about those diapers.

I tried these because I was shopping for other items in Kmart, and decided to pick up some. I will never do so again. I cannot afford to throw money away like this. These diapers are so bad that I will not even post them on Freecycle or donate them to Goodwill. Please purchase these diapers with caution, knowing you will be changing your baby's diapers and clothes many times each day until you can buy another brand. They do not work.

Eternity Lane

ANNANDALE, VIRGINIA -- Unfortunately, the closest store to my house that sells bottled water and small household needs is a Kmart in Annandale, VA. Customers walk in but they can't check out. The cashiers obviously have no training and it is a rare event for any customer to check out in less than 30 minutes. Tonight, I waited in line from 8:35 PM to 9 PM without making progress so I walked away from the line to complain to customer service and the manager. Naturally, there was no customer service or manager on duty. There was no information anywhere near customer service that indicated whom to call for complaints.

Absolutely no one was in charge. This is a pattern that seems to occur every time I go there. I would like to see a customer service person or manager on duty at all times during store hours or contact information for someone. I would also like to see the cashiers get training so it does not take eternity to get through the line. My cashier clearly had no idea how to remove the security tags from items she did not know how to ring up. Poor training is a direct reflection on the non-existent management.
