Junk Washer
By -

This washer is junk.. Clothes come out smelling like mildew. Back of washer is full of mold. Front of tub rubs on washer door. Makes awful noises. Ruined our floor from mold and water. Brackets broke tub doesn't spin right. Etc. etc. etc. Maytag didn't offer any help. They said I should have purchased an extended warranty.. Only had the set for two years and when I called about this problem said my warranty expired May 2010, it's only June... Now they say just come buy a new one.... I don't want a new one. Can't afford it being a single mom and full time student.

This is the biggest rip off ever. I paid almost $2500 for both the washer and dryer.. Worst investment ever. Will not ever buy a Maytag again. I will also be telling everyone and posting it on all my blogs to never buy a Maytag washer and dryer.

There was a lawsuit against Maytag for these washers and dryers a couple of years ago and they say they fixed the problem.. Nope they didn't. I think another lawsuit needs to be filed again. They are taking advantage of people and their money. This is ridiculous....

Maytag Neptune Washer Complaint
By -

BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN -- We purchased a washer dryer combo in September 2005. Immediately we discovered that the drying center was a very fine product and the washer was a complete nuisance. The washer makes enough noise to be heard throughout the entire house. It rattles and vibrates at an incredibly high decibel level and walks across the floor. I purposefully bought them from a Maytag store in order to receive the best service if I ever needed it.

We had Maytag service out repeatedly at first and they gave us many reasons for the problems; the legs hadn't been installed correctly, the washer hadn't been installed correctly, the problem was our house, they couldn't make it stop (it was a new design and we just had to live with it). The Maytag store people advised me to complain to Maytag. What? I thought I was already talking to Maytag. Having paid top dollar for what I presumed would be a top quality washer I resolved right then to avoid Maytag products and advise others to do the same so as not to fall into the same position.

As I sit here, listening from two rooms away, to our Neptune washer that sounds like a helicopter spooling up, I am glad that the six major appliances we have purchased (for different houses) since then haven't been Maytag (or Whirlpool products) and I haven't had any problems with those six appliances either. Now, we just have to live with this washer until it dies (because I will not fix it).

The Reason Why the Maytag Repairman Isn't Busy
By -

CLEVELAND, TENNESSEE -- I now understand why the Maytag repairman isn't busy. He goes on a call, charges $139.00 to tell you that the parts and labor to fix your machine will exceed the cost to buy a new one. In my case, $700.00. This only takes approximately 15 minutes. No, I don't think that things will last forever. Our cars require maintenance to keep running well and I expect that my large appliances will too. What I don't expect is to pay greater than 50% of the purchase price, which was a $1,299.00 in 2004, yes, only 5.5 yrs. ago.

I'm sure someone in the corporate office thinks this is a great business model, however I assure you it is not. As I shopped for a new washer today, I noted that Maytag models were at the bottom of the list on Consumer Reports. I also plan to share all the awful details with hundreds of my closest friends on Facebook. Shame on you Maytag.

I have read several of the complaints and it seems that my complaint has already been filed. I wonder if it has been heard? My mother swore by Maytag and insisted that I buy the same. I have used Maytag for 38 yrs and until now I thought maybe my wife or kids just didn't know how to operate this fine piece of equipment. I don't think that me not buying another Maytag product will hurt the company, but I would like for them to know that they have not lost only my loyalty but also Maytag has lost the sale of washers and dryers to my six children.

I figure it will cost Maytag at least $20,000 in sales form my immediate family and whoever else wants to ask my opinion about the product. So MAYTAG I hope it was worth the profit in the past you will lose more than you have ever made off of me. I am sorry for this, my mother will be disappointed and that makes me sorry for a company whose reputation is dwindling as you read this. Good luck to Maytag in the future and I hope this letter helps you to realize what you are losing by compromising quality for quantity.

Maytag does not live up to reputation
By -

Let me first say that I have never published a review of any product anywhere. I have been as well treated by different companies as I have been poorly treated but I feel the need to warn other consumers about Maytag. The motor control board on this unit was included in the class action settlement of 2005. My Neptune washer/dryer was manufactured in 2000 but not sold or installed until 2002. The motor control unit first failed in 2007 to the tune of $400 parts and labor. It then failed 2.5 years later in January 2010. Maytag/Whirlpool's stance is that because the washer is 10 years old (even though it has only been in use for 8 years), it's at the end of its lifespan.

My response is that the washer would last for 15 years if the electronics didn't fail. The motor control board was only 2.5 years old not 8 years old. Solid state electronics aren't supposed to fail if the system is designed properly. They don't have any moving parts to wear out over time. Because the electronics clearly have a design flaw, Maytag/Whirlpool settled out of court.

However, since the claim period has elapsed, the company will not support its product. Further, they've jacked up the price of the replacement part about $100. Bottom line, bad business and bad customer service. I'd have settled for a rebate on a new washer/dryer or on the replacement part. Nada. Zip. So that's exactly how much money I will spend on a Maytag/Whirlpool next time.

Maytag Neptune TL Washer
By -

We purchased our Maytag Neptune TL Washer in October, 2004 for $900. We also purchased the dryer as well. For another $140, we added a 3-yr warranty. The first thing we noticed was the loudness of the washer compared to when we first started using it. The next thing was a "dc" code that would come on with 12 minutes left on the cycle. I would just press start and it would finish the cycle. This would happen about every other load for the past couple of weeks.

Last night I was washing a load and we heard a screeching sound. I opened the washer with smoke billowing out. I immediately unplugged it and left the water in the tub, wrung out the clothes and put them in the dryer. A Maytag repairman came to view the problem. He told me that it needed an outer tub, flange, clutch and belt. Even though the outer tub is covered under the 10 years, the whole machine needs to be taken apart to get to that. Bottom line = $600-$700!

He suggested I DON'T fix it because he said there are a lot of problems with this model. So, now we're out the $60 service call, the original $900 for the washer, and the $140 for the 4-year warranty (yes, it ended in Oct). Now to go back to KENMORE where we never had problems.

Maytag - NEVER AGAIN
By -

We have had this piece of junk for barely 4 years now - and it HAS NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY. During the first two years alone we had numerous service calls - mostly relating to the machine violently vibrating in the spin cycle.

For the past two years, the machine won't drain about 50% of the time and "beeps" incessantly. It even beeps when the spin cycle DOES complete properly. We have spent hundreds of dollars trying to get it fixed. The last repairman we had finally told us to "save our money" (after we paid him $200 or so) because, according to him, ALL front load washers have problems.

As far as customer service, Maytag doesn't have a clue. Once the manufacturer's warranty expired, they HIT THE ROAD and have never looked back. I will NEVER buy another Maytag and will pass my experience on to anyone willing to listen!

I don't have a problem with my service man, my problem is he has to keep coming back for the same part to replace. I think that if you spend over $2000 for an appliance it should last for more than 2-3 years. Right after the warranty was up it started and has been going on ever since. Some part that tells the water to shut of quits and I have water everywhere. So, I guess that even I get the extended warranty to cover this expensive no good for nothing junk, I think I will go back to the old scrub board.

Maytag USED to be a brand to brag about. What happened? So, here I sit waiting for that same old part to come in. It's on back order. It has been over 5 weeks. I can't wait to get this and see how long it will last this time. Oh, this is the 3rd time. And when I get some money saved up I will haul this junk to The Dump and buy a Kenmore.

Warranty Not Honored
By -

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN -- My washer is approx 4 yrs old and when I purchased it I was only interested in a Maytag due to their reputation and history of reliability. My computer board on the washer is not functioning and it is still under warranty, but Maytag no longer makes the board my washer needs and will offer no help with this other than to give me a 15 percent off the price of a new machine.

I have had 3 different technicians to my home trying to troubleshoot the problem but without the correct board I am out of luck. I paid a lot of money for this washer and feel like it should last longer than 4 yrs. So much for the Maytag repairman not needing to service Maytag appliances... He's not making calls because Maytag doesn't service what they sell or stand behind their product.

Maytag Still Manufactures Moldy Washers After Class Action Suit
By -

NEW YORK -- Maytag paid off big time in a class action suit revolving around the mold issues in their Neptune front loaders. It obviously did not teach them a lesson, since my Neptune, manufactured after the lawsuit, suffers from mold which nothing can eliminate. I have tried for a couple of years to follow all advice about eliminating and avoiding mold, and the machine is coated with it. I now have to go out and buy a new top loader, for upwards of $1000. Why is Maytag being allowed to get away with this? I know they were just purchased by Whirlpool, so does that let them off the hook?
