Maytag 2200 door problem

I have a Maytag 2200 front loader 14 months old and already having problems with it. The door is locked and won'€™t come open. I have tried everything to fix it, contacted Maytag and the first words out of their mouth was did I purchase the extended warranty. "I shouldn't have had to," I said. "This is supposed to be a good washer but I guess I was mistaken." It has shaken, vibrated and now this. I am thoroughly disillusioned with this product.

I had a Neptune and wore it out so I went back to Maytag. Wish now I hadn'€™t. I bought Maytag because to me they have always been the flagship of appliances. Looking at the different forums on the internet now I see different. Cheap overseas labor is the cause for this.

HATE My Washer

I bought my Maytag Bravo washer a couple years ago. I thought with the Maytag name and conserving water it would be good for me and the environment. Wow was I wrong. I HATE this washer. It doesn't clean the clothes. I have to hand wash things after washing them. It doesn't get the laundry detergent out for sensitive skin.

I have to use the bulky cycle to get anything clean and that takes a LONGGG time, double rinsing is a whole morning event for one wash. I want to take this washer to The Dump and get my old washer back. I will never buy another Maytag or energy water saver washer. Thanks, I just needed to vent this morning before I hand wash the clothes.

Hunk of Junk Washer

CLEVELAND, TENNESSEE -- I purchased a Maytag High Efficiency washer which is a piece of junk. I could have thrown my money in the garbage and received as much. Washer does not do what it states in manual, doesn't clean clothes well. Also there is no way to dispense fabric softener and Maytag couldn't care less. I have talked to several people at the company and written letters. They made a washer that does not live up to what instruction manual states it will do and will do nothing to compensate me for selling me this piece of junk.

I have talked on telephone and tried every suggestion they have given me, to no avail. I also read other reviews, regarding the same washer and everyone is as unsatisfied as I am. Why is this company allowed to continue to rip off innocent consumers? Beware and stay away from Maytag washers. I thought it was a good name so I felt safe in buying one. I am so totally frustrated by Maytag's lack of concern for their customers and saddened that they will do nothing to help me. They told me to use the Downy ball for fabric dispensing but the Downy site clearly states it cannot be used in high efficiency washers.

I have ruined articles by using it due to it not being able to be used in this insufficient washer. I own an expensive hunk of junk in my laundry room. When I have to do laundry I become very depressed because I know it will be a struggle with this junky washer.

NEVER buy anything from Maytag

CUMMING, GEORGIA -- 18 months old and stops working. Always had a problem with banging noise, just thought it was through bad loading of clothes. Took front cover off to find the release catch as the door was locked solid. One of the three shock absorbers is not connected, and looking at the ends it had never been connected. I put it in place and it is impossible to remove so I know it was never connected to begin with. This has caused the Control unit to go out. Over $100.00 for a new one and even then no guarantee it's going to work. Off this weekend to get a new one. Anything except Maytag.

Maytag Does Not Stand Behind Their Products

BRENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN -- I will never buy another Maytag product. We have not even had our front load washer for two years and this is the 3rd time that the drum needs to be replaced. It broke the first time 5 months after we bought it, it took 6 weeks to repair. Then it broke 4 months later and took another 6 weeks to repair. The machine was defective from day 1, and Maytag has not replaced it. It is broken again, 9 months after it was "fixed" last. Fortunately I purchased an extended warranty, because I knew it would not last, and Maytag would say, "oh too bad, it is no longer under warranty."

Warranty - What a Joke!!

I bought a Maytag washer (centennial) because of its reputation. I bought the washer on June 7th of 2011. On June 15, 2012 the washer just quit working. I called Maytag, they said since the warranty was over that I had to pay a technician to come out and it would cost $129. I was upset, but I had to have a washer so I scheduled it. The tech came out, said the motherboard was bad. He said that this has been a common problem with this machine and that Maytag should actually recall the part. The replacement part was much better. He suggested I call and complain. The part was $180.

He said that Maytag may reimburse me because it was so close to the warranty cut off. I mean seriously - 8 DAYS past the warranty. That is ridiculous. I called Maytag back and explained the situation. I really think they should have paid for all of it, but I would settle for at least part of it. It was a just a week from the warranty date. I got the response of "since you already paid for it there isn't anything we can do." Maytag is profiting off of a false reputation and think people should be aware.

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- I bought a new Maytag HE top loader washer with the blooming effect!! The salesman said it was the best deal! BUT it Sucks!! It does not move the clothes so it does not clean correctly and because the clothes stays in the same spot throughout the wash cycle, they come out WRINKLED! WRINKLED!! Even another rinse cycle with softeners does not take out the WRINKLES. I had to IRON out the wrinkles and Lowe's won't exchange or return. MAYTAG CORPORATION is a JOKE!! DON'T BUY APPLIANCES AT THE HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE!! AND DON'T BUY MAYTAG!! They no longer are a TOP Company.

DON'T BUY THIS WASHER OR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY

MHWE450WW - Bought this $800 washer with the matching $900 dryer. Also bought the $230.00, 3 year extended warranty (Assurance) from Maytag. This washer lasted just 18 months. The Maytag warranty is just 1 year so the 3 year extended warranty is in effect for just 6 months. Maytag knows about the bearing failure problem so they discontinued the 4.5 cf drum/basket and went to a 3.9 cf drum/basket but it is the same model #.

The cost to repair is too much so Assurance (the $230, 3 year warranty company) will only give us $446.00 to buy a new washer even though a new one from Sears (where we bought the first one) is $855. I will NEVER buy another Maytag (or Whirlpool, owner of the Maytag line) and I will NEVER buy another extended warranty if Assurance is involved. I would advise you the same.

Read the fine print of the extended warranty. The front page (from Maytag) says, in large type, that if it can't be repaired it will be replaced. The fine print on the back has the % they will give you for replacement. Legal THIEVERY! BUYER BEWARE! ADDED BONUS. Now we have a washer and dryer that are not matched. Functional but looks weird.

BTW. It's just 2 of us and we do 2 loads of laundry per week and they were average loads. No real large, heavy loads. Our cost for 18 months use of the washer was over $32/month ($800 + $230 - $446). Much cheaper to drive to the laundromat.

Washer is disappointing
By -

I have a Whirlpool stove, Maytag dishwasher, washer and dryer (Maytag appliances all bought since the first of 2011). All except the washer work as they are supposed to... but the washer does not perform as I would like. There have been occasions when a cycle has completed running that I find part of the sheets (at the top of the load) that are not even wet! There is no truly gentle cycle. The spin cycle on all the cycle selections spins the clothes to death.

My old washer (Whirlpool) had a cycle that really worked with permanent press and had a great gentle cycle. I find that my delicates are spun as I said almost to death. All my permanent press now need ironing. And the ball for fabric softener is really a joke. I have found white spots on some of my dark clothes that have to be washed again because the softener is not being spread around and/or washed out. As an old time Maytag/Whirlpool customer I'm sad to say I would not recommend this washer.

Still Waiting on My Maytag Washer to Work
By -

Just venting my anger at the Maytag washer I bought March 3. To this day May 1, I have not been able to use it. I have been washing my clothes by hand. Had a brand new transmission installed as my other review stated. Now I am waiting on a lid lock to be replaced. I hope this solves the problem, because if it doesn't I am dumping this washer even though I do still have payments on it. To me if it doesn't work after this last service visit I am going out to purchase a new washer. I'd like to have one that works. It will not be a Maytag. If you are in the market for a new washer please consider anything other than a Maytag.
