What Happened to Quality?

AURORA, ILLINOIS -- Due to a house fire 5 years ago, we purchased all new appliances and chose the Maytag brand for all but the microwave. We bought top of the line on all and felt confident that we would see many good years of service from them. Well, we have had the stove, dryer, side by side refrigerator and dishwasher all serviced at least 3 times each over the course of 5 years.

My husband contacted the company to voice our frustration, but "sorry for your bad experience" does not pay the service calls. Today we broke down and purchased a new dryer (GE), as the cost of another service call just seemed ridiculous. Not only will we never buy another Maytag, but have told everyone who will listen to steer clear as well.

DON'T BUY IT!

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO -- I bought my Maytag ice2o french door refrigerator from Home Depot 8 mos ago. Loved it when I got it, but soon after had problems with the ice maker. They replaced the ice maker. Now the ice maker is still having problems. It's not strong enough to break up all the ice. The ice cubes freeze in big blocks causing the system to clog. Last night the thing took on a mind of its own. All the lights are flashing on the control panel, the ice and water maker don't work at all. The flap is constantly opening and closing all on its own, constantly making a clicking noise all night long.

Finally we had to unplug it so we could get 4 hours sleep. Plug it in this morning and it's still doing it. My biggest concern is what happens after the warranty runs out. I already know this thing has mechanical problems. Did I get a lemon or is it junk? Either way I'm stuck with a $2,800 refrigerator that seems like it has bad engineering...

Worthless Warranty

I purchased an HVAC system consisting of a Maytag gas furnace, 23 SEER AC unit and the IQ drive controller. This system came with a 12 year parts and labor warranty. After 11 months I needed a minor repair. The company I made my purchase from told me they no longer honor Maytag warranties because the warranty service provider, Equiguard, filed chapter 11 and contractors are not getting paid. I am demanding my money back and will go to court if necessary.

It's true that Equiguard filed Chapter 11 (which affected more companies than just Maytag), but dealers are getting paid now for warranty work. If you contact us, we can work with you to find another Maytag dealer in your area to service your system. Your warranty is ultimately backed by NORDYNE and it is still good. Maytag Rebate - Don't Count on It

EL PASO, TEXAS -- Please stay away from Maytag. They will cheat you out of a rebate of all means necessary. First, they claimed that I didn't submit the receipt even though I included the email with the order number and the delivery receipt. Second, I faxed the email with the order number again and they claimed that they didn't receive it and denied the rebate. Once again, beware of this company's tactics involving rebates.

FLORIDA -- I purchased a Maytag washer and dryer because of a warranty they had on their website only to find out that even though I had matching numbers that they offered rebates they claim I bought them where the rebate wasn't applicable. What a scam - stay away from MAYTAG.

Won't Honor Maint. Agreement

I have a 3 yr. agreement with Maytag. My unit is one year old. The lid on the washer became heavy to open. I called the maint tel #. They state the lid is not a "functional" part therefore not covered. I wrote to Maytag two weeks ago to no avail.

Not the old Maytag

Bought a freezer from Home Depot, have had four service calls, all for the same problem. Have thus far have spent more on repairs than the freezer cost. Repairman says it is faulty design and poor manufacturing. Traded old 40 year freezer that never had a problem but was manual defrost for this piece of Maytag junk. Maytag says tough luck, problem not covered by warranty, but do consider Maytag when I buy a new freezer.

Poor Service and Warranty

Bought a Sears Maytag micro about 5 months ago. It caught fire. The tech they sent out although has warranty on it said defective part. Holder burnt ruined cavity - words of tech. But at end although he stated faulty part he said not covered. Was looking to buy a washer and dryer. Hell with this kind of warranty will never buy Maytag anything and would advise others to be careful of the Maytag brand because it is for sure they don't back up their findings.

Purchased a washer & dryer 3 years ago. Family of two adults, only 1 adult use appliance. Within two years the pump went out on the washer, under warranty, replaced - now 3+ dryer stopped drying - not under warranty, have to pay for repairs. This has been an experience that I don't like. I will never purchase Maytag again. I had a Speed Queen that lasted for 15 years with minor repairs. Maytag washer & dryer are poorly made and I do not recommend.

CLEAVELAND,, TENNESSEE -- Sir, in Aug 06, we purchased your over the stove micro. We are a family of two seniors. We use the micro a few times a day to reheat, etc. We are not a family of 5, with for example, baby bottles to heat, etc. After 40 months I opened the door and the plastic handle pulled off and broke in my hand! Your quality control and material is extremely inferior. My previous micro lasted about 10 years and was only replaced because my wife claimed it was too slow. A response would be appreciated.
