A Pantry not a Refrigerator/Freezer
Posted by on
GEORGIA -- Ran it at Max for first 2 weeks, thinking it is new and the weather is hot. Frig part was barely cold so got a thermometer which registered in danger zone. Freezer was fine...then. Called for service and told had to wait 2 days (and take a day off from work). Upon returning home on the day I called, found refig temp at 60 and freezer defrosted. Over $300 worth of food gone spoiled. Called customer service and as a result received a $25 check (an insult) for food loss (not to mention 2 days lost pay which I knew there was not a prayer of getting). I had to stay home for service man to come and tell me the unit did not work because the sealing was corrupt. Called AMEX because seller said I had to see if it could be repaired. AMEX said they would not pay the bill because unit was 3 wks old and I was dis-satisfied. Gave me leverage with seller and I got another manufacturer (GE-fingers crossed for good luck). I tried to review it on the Frigidaire site but it will not accept a derogatory writeup. I will fight-perhaps in small claims court(?). Because they sent a $25 check and I will not cash in I feel they have accepted responsibility. Ihave pix of full frig and freezer of ruined food.

Just a word of advice. I wouldn't fully stock a brand new refrigerator/freezer until I was sure it worked properly. The refrigerator section didn't seem to work from the beginning, so it probably wasn't a surprise when the whole unit stopped working.
Nohandle on 2011-06-28:
Who did you purchase the Frigidaire from? The reason I'm asking is I received a new one (same brand) as a Christmas gift to keep in the garage and the delivery man checked it out thoroughly before leaving. He set the controls and told me it might take perhaps 12 hours to cool down completely. In my case it didn't take but a couple of hours but would have called the store back if it wasn't working properly by the next day.

There's a heck of a difference in a "spare" fridge and primary one. Plus, mine is a very basic model used for drinks and food overages. It certainly is not a deluxe one as you bought. Were you told to contact Frigidaire directly because the selling dealer didn't want to fool with it?
Slimjim on 2011-06-28:
I think GE historically has a much better track record. Hopefully you'll be good to go hereon.

Frigidaire piece of crap...
Posted by on
We purchased our refrigerator on 1/8/07. It's been less than 3 years and now it doesn't cool. I don't care that I didn't purchase the extended warranty, I shouldn't have ANY problems with a refrigerator that's only 3 years old. Frigidaire will not help me without the warranty and I think their refusal to stand behind their product speaks volumes.

I will never buy Frigidaire again! What a waist of $800 plus the cost of repairs. Lucky for me I was able to get a local appliance repair company agree to come out tomorrow, but $65 just to look at it...ouch!

UPDATE: I had an appliance service technician out to my home on 12/29 and after looking over the refrigerator he determined there was a freon leak and that it was running out of freon. The refrigerator side is warm now too. He also stated that he thought Frigidaire covered sealed components for up to 5 years. I asked him if there was anything that I had done to have caused this and he stated that it was nothing I could have done to cause the issue and that it was from the manufacturing being of poor quality.

I then contacted Frigidaire and they stated the sealed components were not covered that they only cover sealed components for the 5 year period for models built in 2005 or prior. I then asked to speak to a supervisor and she stated that I would have to wait for them to call me back and that I would get a call back the next day...I'm not holding my breath.

At this point we've decided to cut our losses and have purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator. We are shopping around for extended warranties, the store give us 30 days to make a decision.

Overall I'm very disappointed with Frigidaire and their unwillingness to stand behind their product. I paid $800 for a refrigerator that only lasted 3 years due to the poor workmanship of Frigidaire.

I had the same experience with my Frigidaire refrigerator, but it did not quite last even 3 years. This company, Frigidaire, needs to be driven out of business. Frigidaire means piece of crap.

Frigidaire Side By Side
Posted by on
I have had this fridge for 13 months. During that time, I have had to call out a technician 4 times. The first time, the defroster wasn't plugged in when it was manufactured, so I ended up losing the entire contents of my fridge and freezer when it stopped chilling. The other problems have been the icemaker, the ice dispenser, water dispenser, noise in the fan, etc. I just had a repair man out several weeks ago, and now have another problem. Now the thing is noisier than a plane taking off! Loud noises are emanating from the freezer, deafening loud at times. I wonder if the whole thing is about to die! It wakes me up at night with its noise. Of course, my warranty has now expired. I am so unhappy buying a Frigidaire. Nothing but problems. How many problems can a fridge have? I didn't know Frigidaire had such a bad product. I thought that they had been making fridges for years..... Boy am I ever sorry I bought this one. My last Kenmore had for 3 years until I sold my house, not a single problem. I will not buy a Frigidaire product again or recommend that anyone else does. What a waste of time and money.

Fridge Stopped Cooling 3rd Time
Posted by on
Well, we are shopping for a replacement for our $1200 Frigidaire FRS6LR5EM6 side by side. We have the original purchase price in it, 3 calls to the service guy and the expense to fix it for the 3rd time for not cooling. We have 3 batches of bad meat/food to pay for. We have water damage to our wood floors. It seems to break and thaw out either at night or while I am at work. Water sits on the floor for hours till we figure out that it is OOS (out of service) again. If you bought a Frigidaire the you need the extended warranty. We bought a matching dishwasher and microwave so our appliances matched for the first 2 years. We are waiting for the repair man to once again come by and fix the refrig. I am looking for a GE model that will match because we are selling this one to someone else, once it gets fixed.

My luck it will run for years trouble free after this but I am not willing to make leap of faith. The repair guy says that those Frigidaires are made in Mexico and quality is not an issue with them. I believe it!

Maybe your complaint should be with the service company that can't seem to repair the unit correctly. If you do find a GE or other brand that will match you will probably be buying a Frigidaire just with a GE nameplate.

The last 2 repairs were last week. It defrosted and left puddles on the new wood floors both times (my wife hates water on the new hardwood floors with a passion). Our service rep seems to be professional and technically able. The freon dryer was clogged so he cut it out and replaced it. 3 days later there was apparently a leak on the freon side that he had to track down, seal, evacuate and recharge. It was about $160 for the week. The unit is not under warranty so we foot the bill, each time. He agreed that the appliance is a good one but just has issues that we were lucky enough to purchase. He talked us out of buying a Whirlpool replacement.

NOTE: The service company repaired the refrig each time he came out. Each time it was a completely different problem with the refrig.
1. Leaking water connection (wet the floor)
2. Bad defrost circuit/board (wet the floor)
3. Clogged freon dryer (wet the floor)
4. Freon leak (wet the floor)

Frigidaire Side By Side Is A Piece Of Junk
Posted by on
KENNEWICK, WASHINGTON -- It makes me sad to see another American brand name headed to the trash heap, but I'm sure corporate greed and outsourcing to blame again...

I bought a 2003 side by side Frigidaire refrigerator/freezer.

Now I am having intermittent failure of the freezer unit and can't get it repaired. Why? Service people won't respond BECAUSE IT IS INTERMITTENT. So now I am saddled with an American piece of junk I can't even get fixed...

Because of this experience, I will now shun all familiar American brand appliances and buy quality European brands such as LG or Braun where the word 'quality' remains a significant word.

Be careful, LG stands for Lucky Goldstar which means you are lucky if it works and they are Goldstar either way.
Slimjim on 2008-02-09:
European brands are nothing special. They are expensive, don't perform any better in apples for apples models, and can be a nightmare to get parts. I have two Bosch appliances and I rate both below average. The problem is not you buying US, it's you bought a crappy brand. Frigidaire has been junk since the early 80s when GM sold them to White Consolidated. It had nothing to do with greed or any outsourcing. They were and probably still are, a lower end quality line of appliances because they just weren't made well in direct comparison to other US brands such as Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid and GE.

As far as I recall geography lessons from school many years ago, Korea is not a European country.
jonjaktez on 2008-03-19:
In 2003 that refrigerator was built in the US.

Do Not Buy This Appliance!!!!
Posted by on
OHIO -- You would think when you spend $1000 on an appliance that it would last at least 5 years, maybe more. DO NOT BUY THIS APPLIANCE!!!!!!!!!! This side-by-side was manufactured on 9/04, we have had it since 3/05, and just after warranty expired, it quit cooling. After speaking to a repair rep for Lowe's we found out this is quite common of this brand to go bad just over a year old.... Compressor bad, it is junk.... That is hard to swallow, to think I must again purchase all new food, and a new fridge.

It is horrible to think that FRIGIDAIRE would make such appliances that would be no good after a year. I do know I will do more research on this website before I spend my next $1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't Maytag buy Fridgidaire? Or is it the other way around? In any case, if that is true I can see why their quality may have gone down.
Slimjim on 2006-03-05:
Frigidare is actually owned by Electrolux, who bought them from White Consolidated, who bought them from General Motors. Ever since GM sold them, they've been a sub-par brand.

Thanks Slim.
Slimjim on 2006-03-05:
No prob, it was something if you were in the biz you remember because the brand went south so fast. Of course our troll pirate will be along shortly to tell you I "googled It".
Anonymous on 2006-03-05:
Today's compressors, particularly on the relatively inexpensive brands have been downsized to save cost and energy. The result is often times a shorter lifespan, particularly if you've not provided enough airspace around for sufficient ventilation, etc. And, sadly, sometimes you just get a lemon. If you're outside the parameters of your warranty, sadly, you're sunk. Despite, who may have bought whom, the flaw still lies in the design, not necessarily in the name on the front.
mabe1 on 2006-05-08:
I agree 100% with this complaint. My expensive model refrigerator can not put out ice cubes. It is barely one year old. I will never buy another Frigidaire product because I having more difficulty with my dishwasher. I am ready to put it in the garbage. The company is absolutely no HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am always sure to do as much research as possible on appliances before I buy them, especially if they cost a lot of money. I haven't had a problem with the appliances I have purchased so far. Hopefully I can keep it that way! www.raleigh-appliance-repair.com

Don't Get Ripped Off
Posted by on
Broke down within 2 months lost full refrigerator few days before Christmas. They could have overnighted parts but refused. My certified tech tells me this will keep happening.[Breaking down] so I'm into a $2000 new fridge that's a piece of junk. Also this unit is so noisy you wouldn't believe, I complained they sent a page long list of normal operating sounds. There's a sign!

Refrigerator is crap
Posted by on
My fridge is 7 years old, spent $1300 on it and the ice maker is going. Company basically told me I should have bought an extended warranty. Compressor went out at 2 1/2 years, and it was barely covered under warranty. I will never buy another one from them.

Fighting with Sears will get you nowhere.Have you contacted the manufacturer? Even though the unit is out of warranty they still might step up and help a customer.

Good Luck
