FAIRFIELD, CONNECTICUT -- I bought a GE microwave in October, it worked for a week and needed to be fixed. The tech came out and ordered parts. Two weeks later the tech puts them in and it still does not work. The tech ordered more parts and the parts were on back order. This should have been a clue that the microwave was junk. GE finally decided to replace the microwave. Skip forward to today. The stupid GE microwave is broken again. I call GE consumer relations and tell them that I would like my money back because the GE model obviously has problems.

** in Consumer Relations tells me that they have to have a tech look at it and can't do anything for me until they do. I asked ** three times if I could speak with a supervisor and she told me that she needed to be the one to help me. Finally, I asked, "are you refusing to let me speak with a supervisor?" She said she would need to put me on hold to locate a supervisor.

I was on hold for at least 4 minutes and then ** informed me that a supervisor was not available. I told her I could wait. ** then informed me that there were no supervisors in the call center. I asked if one could call me back. ** said they would and I asked when I could expect to hear from a supervisor. ** said 24-48 hours. So I guess I will wait to hear from them - probably won't hear from them until the last minute.

Performance of My GE Refrigerator

EVANSTON, ILLINOIS -- I just moved into a condo that was recently renovated by the previous owner. The kitchen was redone and one of the things I liked best about it was the new, shiny, stainless steel GE fridge. After a few weeks, my enthusiasm began to wane.

The fridge new stayed cold enough, no matter how much I turned down the temperature. The door shelves fell out quite a bit. They cracked easily and often would prevent the door from closing properly if they weren't held shut for several seconds. The inside bins never stayed on the tracks even if there wasn't much food inside. The ice maker in the bottom freezer was extremely loud and often became clogged. Several times it stopped working altogether.

Appliance "Failure to Perform" GE Profile Refrigerator
By -

CALIFORNIA -- We purchased a GE Profile refrigerator in Aug 2007 (French door/bottom freezer). Due to delayed kitchen remodel it was not installed until 2008. There have been 6 service calls on this 5 yr old refrigerator - all service by GE technicians.

Repairs: replacing both doors, two motherboards, and lastly the relay switch. One additional call found no problem though an electric burning smell emitted from the unit. The last tech ordered the replacement switch 10/24/11 having diagnosed the smell, loud popping noise and the spontaneous off/on operation of the unit as to the relay switch heating and cooling. November 28, 2011, GE called and said the unit cannot be repaired until next year at the earliest due to a lack of parts. Their offer included an extended 1 yr warranty or the purchase of a new unit at the cost of $971 to us.

So far the costs of the repairs have exceeded the cost of the unit. We are covered by an extended warranty but is the insurance company also being abused? We have been told by a different appliance dealer that this part has been discontinued! As a diabetic who depends on keeping expensive insulin cooled I need a dependable appliance. Where do we go to get assistance?

GE Profile Series Kitchen Appliances
By -

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- Bought a new house three years ago and outfitted the kitchen with all new appliances (oven, microwave, stove, dishwasher, side by side). The side by side has NEVER worked. Fixed it twice (both times with the ice maker) under warranty and had the door replaced twice because of a poor fit. Now it's out of warranty. Had it fixed twice (defroster and ice maker) again for about $800 and now the ice maker is out for the fourth time. We splurged and got the model with the LED display. That goes blank at random times and we have to pull the whole thing away from the wall, unplug it, and push it back. We have total regret we ever spent the money.

Now the dishwasher... Again, high end. But it has never worked. Twice repaired under warranty and twice out of warranty. The disposal system has never worked so food clogs the holes in the sprayers and they don't spin... Dirty dishes every time unless I get in there with pipe cleaners and tweezers to pick all the junk out.

So I got really mad once and e-mailed GE. I gave them a choice... Either own up to their problems and apologize for their shortcomings or ignore me and thus say that they really don't give a crap and are happy to take my money for the appliances and happy that they are out of warranty. I DID NOT ask for any compensation... Just owning up, that's all. They chose the latter and I have never heard from them. My advice... Steer clear of GE.

Too Many Plastic Parts that Break Easily
By -

In May 2009 we purchased over $8K worth of GE major appliances. Including dishwasher, stove, refrigerator, front loading washer dryer and microwave. Most GE Profiles. In less than two years we have had 3 repairs for a variety of things but all parts were plastic. The latest is a 1 1/2 inch plastic hinge for the GE Profile dishwasher door that broke. $180 to fix a cheap piece of plastic. Before that a knob for the stove, $35 again cheap plastic. Finally the ice maker in the refrigerator has been replaced three times. Again more cheap plastic. Very pricey items built with cheap unreliable plastic. Starting to think we made a mistake in our selection of GE Profile. Never again.

Be prepared to invest $ to repair GE appliances
By -

In February 2007, I purchased 3 GE appliances, a refrigerator, a free standing range and a dishwasher. I have had all 3 repaired and the appliances are not yet 4 years old. First it was the refrigerator; the ice maker would not make ice, then the freezer would stop freezing and finally the frig would not stay cold. The board was faulty.

Next it was the dishwasher, it leaks water at the end of a cycle. The repairman couldn't figure it out. Now, it's the range. The oven temperature will not hold. Sometimes it does not heat to the temp and sometimes it keeps heating and heating. We've had dinners that are not fully baked and dinners / cookies that are burnt. The repairman has just determined the board is bad, it will cost over $400 to repair.

When I purchased these appliances I thought I was getting good products. I've had it with GE and so have both of my daughters after having their cookies burnt. The next generation in my family has learned "BEWARE OF GE APPLIANCES!"

GE Profile Refrigerator - Stay Away!
By -

We have had a GE Profile refrigerator for 4 years and are now on our 3rd motherboard. It is covered under warranty but for the parts only, not the labor - which can only be done by a GE technician. Even better, to get it actually working again after you call them, plan to wait about two weeks. I spoke with GE customer service and they did not seem to understand why it was a problem that the same part has been replaced 2X in 4 years. Apparently, they consider that reliable. Stay away from GE products or make sure you keep a back-up refrigerator in your garage!

GE Profile Side by Side Refrigerator

Purchased a new home seven years ago. All appliances were GE. Washer and Dryer both go out within six years. Refrigerator is now gone bad. Contact GE reference repair on the refrigerator and was advised of an $84.95 trip charge. Are you kidding me? It will cost me 85 dollars just to have someone look at the refrigerator. Nothing like putting it back on the consumer.

Oh if anyone from GE reads this please tell your answering service that they suck too. I talked to this robot who reads a list of issues that could be wrong with the refrigerator. "IS there some kind of box in the way that is not allowing your refrigerator door to close"? Ah no brain I opened the door and water ran out of the ice machine onto my floor. Then he argues with me about the 85.00 trip charge when I question the cost. That is the most ridiculous way of not getting consumers to return to your product. I will be purchasing a new line of appliances that are NOT GE.

GE Profile Side by Side With Bottom Freezer
By -

TAMPA, FLORIDA -- We would NOT recommend the GE Profile side by side refrigerator. The ice maker bucket is so small that you only get 20-30 ice cubes in a 12 hour period. We have had this ice maker serviced 6-8 times, replaced the ice maker 2 times now and it still produces little ice! We have owned this refrigerator two years. There is some kind of rust spots around the handle on the bottom drawer and GE just says "Sorry, you are out of warranty."

We would NEVER buy their product again and don't advise any side by side refrigerator where the ice maker is in the refrigerator section. Ice makers were meant to be in the freezer section. FYI always look at the size of the ice bucket and where it is located, BIG mistake if you don't. Small bucket, next to no ice cubes produced. We learned the hard way.

GE Profile Washer & Dryer

I will never buy another GE appliance! We purchased all new appliances when we built our home 25 years ago. Since then we have replaced all of them at least 3 times some four times. The washer and dryers have been the worst! The first dryer was repaired four times, 2 timers, 1 belt, and 1 thermostat. We heard a squealing noise one evening and ended up carrying the dryer out of the house on fire! The second dryer had 1 timer and started squealing so we got rid of that one real quick. The third one just caught fire, and we the service guy finally told us about the main bearing in the rear that gets hot and catches fire.

Now our washer is starting to overflow before it gets the chance to pump out! I can only blame myself for remaining faithful to GE so long. The prices were reasonable and the service fair, but not worth buying it again! I can only compare them to something that is manufactured in China, cheaply made and only beneficial to the guy that sells it!
