LEWISTON, MINNESOTA -- About 6 years ago we bought a brand new GE Spectra oven/stove. Last week while I was preheating the oven at 350 degrees, my oven caught fire. The bottom heating element broke and cause the fire. I immediately turned off the oven and called 911. Ironically, we had move to a new house and bought new appliances because we had a fire in our previous home and lost everything.
LAKELAND, FLORIDA -- I also had a problem with my Spectra oven. I was cooking and the house filled with smoke and all smoke detectors went off in my house. It was the oven on fire. The bottom heating element split in half and caused the fire. I too immediately turned off the stove and fire went out. GE should recall these ovens as mine also was manufactured in 2003.
