WAYNESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA -- We had to have major repair within months after purchase. The problem was that it wouldn't advance into the spin cycle. It was covered at that time by the warranty and they replaced the door latch and the circuit board. Since that time we are having the same problem with the washer not going into the spin cycle and over the phone, Maytag has diagnosed it as not being part of the recall, even though it is doing the same thing as the first repair. We have also replaced the water control valve three times. We just ordered that part and it is $84.00 for just that part again.

When my husband looked in the back of the washer there is mold around the rubber gasket around the drum. I told Maytag about it, but they said since didn't mention it before it is not covered. I explained that their repair person should have told me. As a woman I wouldn't have any reason to take the back board of the washer off to examine inside.

I am so frustrated with Maytag's lack of concern and doing everything to avoid either repairing my washer or replacing it. We thought when we spent over $1000 for washer that we were getting the best, instead we got. lemon! If anyone can tell me how to resolve this please write/comment on this review.

I have had serious problems with my Maytag Neptune Front Loading Washer shaking and walking across the floor. At one point in time, it walked six inches to the hot water heater and was slamming into it and the incoming gas line. The repair man's suggestion (which I took) was to move the washer to the other side of the dryer. Then it started slamming into the foundational wall. The repair man suggested I leave a balled up towel wedged between the machine and the wall to prevent "slamming and walking." I did this until one day, during the spin cycle, I saw a crack run across my living room ceiling!

After six repairman visits, three canceled visits (canceled by Maytag at the last minute), and yet another Saturday stuck at home coming up for the next appointment, I really just want my money back. This machine has damaged a new linoleum floor as well as causing untold damage to my house's foundation. Even more seriously, I threw my shoulder out hefting the goliath--full of clothes and water--back across the floor when it walked so far as to unplug itself.

This washing machine has cost more in lost work time, medical bills, and yet-to-be addressed home repairs than I imagined possible. The customer service is horrible (one Maytag representative actually got belligerent!), the company does not stand behind its products, and the service techs are at the mercy of unseen "supervisors" when it comes to declaring a unit "irreparable" which is the only way to receive a new unit under the warranty. Even the Better Business Bureau couldn't help as the company wouldn't even respond. NEVER BUY A MAYTAG!

PACIFIC GROVE, CALIFORNIA -- We have had our Neptune for two and one half years and the mold around the door gasket has gotten progressively worse. We had a repair tech come out and look at it and he said call Maytag (we had no idea that there was a class action suit).

I called them and they said the deadline for replacement had passed and that it would be at our expense if we had it replaced. Why was I not notified of the class action suit? They said that I was not notified of the problem because I did not register my appliances (which I did and had in my notes that we registered them one week after purchase).

When I mentioned that I received numerous mailings to purchase an extended warranty and that they obviously knew I had the appliances it was the same old song and dance. I spoke with three people working my way up the line and was treated like crap all the way up, and was told tough luck. I will never purchase another Maytag or related brand product again.

TEXAS -- So proud was I of my new Neptune washer and dryer in 2001! After a while, I noted mildew on the washer door gasket, but determined that it was natural since the machine always had a little water in it. I had it serviced once because it didn't drain, but didn't think too much about it because I've had other washers serviced after a couple of years. This weekend, water continued to flow even during the spin cycle, and wouldn't drain. While attempting to find a service provider, I learned about a now-expired class action suit against this company regarding the Maytag front loaders.

I contacted Maytag, but was informed after a very long run-around that there was nothing they, not I, could do about the problem, and I would have to pay for repairs myself since the case was closed. I sincerely believe that if Maytag cared about its customers, they would stand behind a product that is admittedly defective in design.

LYMAN, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Maytag is no longer a product that I would recommend!! Do your research before buying Maytag, you'll be surprised on the negative feedback regarding their products!! I wish I would have done this before buying!! I purchased all Maytag products (Refrigerator, Gas stove, Dishwasher, and Neptune Washer and Dryer). I register the products with Maytag on 3/05 for a new home that we had purchased back in March; we didn't start actually using them until August of 05. That's when we made the move to the new home.

About four weeks ago (11/30/05) the Washer stop spinning… I called Maytag so that I could file a claim under our Warranty, I was told to call a service repair shop within our area. Well let me just get to the point because this would turn into a small series of chapters.

After having the service repair guy out here for the past four weeks replacing every part on the washer and the repair guy saying "Look there's nothing more that I can do," I was able to finally have Maytag refund the purchase prize. Believe me I had to fight tooth and nail! I was able to return the washer back to Home Depot, needless to say, I didn't buy another Maytag, and I ended up buying an LG front loader. (Nice Washer)!!

But it doesn't end here, guess what… The Dryer just broke down (12/31/05). It started to smoke, the circuit board went!! So once again I'm on the phone with Maytag going through it all over again!!! You would think that Maytag would be more receptive and that they would be bending over wanting to help but instead it's me bending over and having to take it!! I will update you on how they deal with this.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN -- Maytag is not the same company from 20 years ago. They are involved in a class action lawsuit because they did a poor design that can cost over $300 to repair and they don't care. My washer is broken and it would qualify for a free repair except the class action is tied up in court so my only option is to do nothing with my washer till the case is settled. Maybe Months.

The door lock cost $15 and when it breaks it will cause $300 of damage. And it will break because the wax motor has a limited life. The washer will smell and grow mold because the design does not drain all of the water. I went to Sears to buy a new washer and before I told the salesman that I was not buying Maytag he told me to stay away from Maytag because of service problems.

VANCOUVER -- Just had a serviceman tell me that my Neptune washer is going to need a 1100.00 Dollar repair because a simple bearing has failed on the tub. I'm so pissed. This machine is only six years old. There are only four people in this house and you would at least expect ten years out of an appliance. When I was a kid my parents bought the cheapest Sears appliances and they lasted for decades, and there was nine people in my father's house! Best part was the service guy telling me he just did a repair on a 35-year old set of Maytags.

Bought the Neptune thinking it would last for years. Wrong. Washing machine got moldy on the inside almost immediately. I was told that you need to leave it open till it dries on the inside. Who wants their washing machine open when it is in your guest bath? Dryer took 120 minutes to dry one load. Called repairman to repair the dryer and he told me to get rid of it after 5 years. Too expensive to fix. He advised me to get a Kenmore bottom of the line and that's what I did and my electric is down $25.00! Washing machine gone replace with a bottom of the line!

My husband insisted we purchase a Neptune Washer & Dryer. I would have been happy with a regular Maytag model. However we purchased the set in February 29, 2000. On March 07, 2000 we had our first problem. Fortunately it was still under warranty. The problem was the washer needed an enhancement Kit and they replaced a broken bezel. The machine was not even a month old. I have never thought that the machine washed any better than a regular washer. At the present we are having a problem with the spin cycle. So I must say that I am very Disappointed in the product.

553 BENSON ROAD, BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN -- The machine provided a one year warranty on service. TWO days after the one year expired, we had a major problem: EVERY time we put towels in to wash, the machine unbalanced itself. Maytag REFUSED to provide a free service call even though it was TWO DAYS past the one year warranty period.

The first time, the part was covered but the service call was NOT. The second time, we paid for BOTH the service call AND THE PARTS! The machine is now broken, AGAIN! This time, in the spin cycle, it sounds like a tornado. American quality? Maytag: you are a DISGRACE to the American people. You SHOULD go bankrupt and save us the aggravation of a non-caring, poor quality but EXPENSIVE household appliances.
