State Farm insurance is terrible. Like a good neighbor is a joke. My son was hit by a car walking across the street. The driver and I both had State Farm. Under no fault it fell to our insurance. Even though the driver was at fault. They would not pay for anything off of liability after our personal injury ran out. We paid out of pocket for part of his medical. They would not admit liability on the drivers fault even though the police report showed he was 100 percent at fault.

We ended up with our day in court and their lawyer crafted a lie that my son had a prior injury and somehow that he was not entitled to full damages for medical. They are a despicable company. My son was walking... and the driver got off because he had a State Farm lawyer who was good at lying. The whole thing cost us a few thousand dollars and he received nothing for pain and suffering. I would be very leery of any future dealings with them and am switching insurance. They are good neighbor alright. What a joke.

State Farm Takes Your Money but Doesn't Pay
By -

If you use State Farm Insurance run, don't walk, to another company fast! They take your money but give you every hassle in the book when it comes to paying. They won't follow up on collision claims when you have your car repaired under collision insurance. They say they will go after other driver and get your deductible back, but they do nothing but send you a letter about 6 months later saying. "Sorry we aren't going to pursue this anymore."

If you get hit by an uninsured/underinsured driver, forget State Farm giving you anything. A scratch and they will total your car then offer you less than 10% of its actual worth. They low ball all costs on claims. Get your roof torn up in a hail storm, State Farm will declare there is no damage and you will have to fight them for months to get your roof repaired. Then they will swear that any price is too high. On liability they will hang you out to dry.

I was with them 20+ years and should have quit them 15 years before. I kept thinking that it was just a one time thing, that they would be better next time. Don't fool yourself. They have been sued by more Attorneys General in more states than I can count. They have very deceptive practices and continue to have them. If your idea of a good neighbor is someone who will harass you, make noise all night, destroy your property, and steal from you, then State Farm is a good neighbor.

Horrible Customer Service on Car Accident

WAUKESHA, WISCONSIN -- I was hit by an uninsured 19 yr old on January 24th of this year. I have been trying to settle this for almost 7 months now! I had to call my agent for updates and was given different numbers to call for info, this is not MY job!! I pay the extra for uninsured motorists, but I am the one getting all the crap. I had to go to Urgent Care 2 days after the accident because of a shoulder injury. I have been trying to settle for pain and suffering with some guy named **, but it takes up to 2 weeks for him to get back to me.

I called my agent ** and told him how unhappy I have been and will not renew my policy and he didn't even try to keep my business... REALLY???? I know I probably won't hear back from anybody, but 7 months to settle?? 4 months to find out he didn't have insurance?? UNACCEPTABLE!!!

State Farm Is NOT a Good Neighbor

BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS -- State Farm is NOT a good neighbor. They were not there for me and my family. After being with State Farm for over 30 years and spending over $150,000.00 on house, 3 cars & umbrella insurance State Farm screwed me & my family. After I expressed my concerns with the Collision Shop and State Farm that my 2009 Toyota Corolla should be totaled, they repaired my vehicle $134.00 short of totaling it.

Now I have a car that has no value. I can't sell it or trade it in. This is how State Farm treats a loyal customer after 30 years and spending $150,000.00. Everyone needs to know what State Farm has done to me and my family. Please DO NOT use State Farm for your personal or business insurance needs. What they have done to us...they can easily do to you.

Shop Around!

CIRCLE PINES, MINNESOTA -- If you have a State Farm auto insurance policy, shop around now because you may be paying too much! I was. I have been a State Farm customer for over 24 years. In May I paid $515.29 for 6 months of coverage on my 2000 GMC. In July, when they found out I got a DUI they didn't bother raising my rate, they just cancelled me. Progressive knew I had the DUI and picked me up for $539.50 for 6 month policy. I wonder how much I have been overpaying all those years when I had a clean driving record. You can be sure from now on I will be comparing coverage and rates every few years.

WHITTIER, CALIFORNIA -- My son bumped into another car and there was no damage to either vehicle. But, the older gentleman said he was going to file a claim anyway. We drove my son's car to State Farm so they could see that there was no damage to our car. A claim was filed and the gentleman's car was repaired without us being advised of the claim repair, which if we had known we would have contested it. When my son went to get a quote from another insurance company, the quote was very high due to this accident on his record now. When my son's record gets cleared of this accident we will be leaving State Farm. Their Customer Service SUCKS!!!

Used to Pay $2900/yr for car insurance now at $1200 With Geico

BLASDELL, NEW YORK -- This is just amazing. I have 4 cars and 1 motorcycle. Two cars I store during winter. I used to pay $2900 for car insurance including $212 for the bike. I was always in a continued fight with their office in Blasdell NY because they would not remove the car protection. When I would store the 2 summer cars for winter, they would put protection. I did not ask, would say that I drive each car for 7,500 miles+ per year. I always had to fight with them at least every 2 months.

I went to the office in person on Jan 23 2013 to re-communicate the changes and to see if the policies are as I wanted. Robert ** was sitting at the computer and making calls while we talked and I was hoping the changes were made. On February 14 2013, I checked online and none of the changes were made! I decided to fill Geico insurance quote and, folks, instead of $2,900 per year, I'm now paying $1,600 with better protection, i.e. collision on all cars vs State farm no collision on my 2 summer cars. It's amazing the saving I did.

I'm telling you, switch to Geico asap if you're with State Farm, especially if you're with Robert ** in Blasdell NY. Don't hesitate or wait, do it today. I'm sorry for Lynn who works for this guy, she did an awesome job but there's so much she can do to cover the bad work of her boss and company.

State Farm dropped my insurance for no reason

BEDFORD, VIRGINIA -- I changed my cars over to State Farm a few months ago because my homeowners are with them. I've been with nationwide for over 15 years. Perfect driving record. I also own a car with my mom also with nationwide on another separate policy. The first letter was the cancellation of the policy on my mom's car with nationwide, I got that straight in no time and was told that State Farm mailed them a letter stating to close MY policy and my MOM'S also.

Mom's is still safe with nationwide no thanks to State Farm... then I get a letter today stating they cancelled my insurance 2 weeks ago... reason because they haven't gotten driver's info on my mom's and I's car, which is NOT with them! It also questioned an accident my hubby had in 2011 at work in a college work truck were a lady hit them all in the rump. Clearly not the college trucks fault... Not only did they cancel on us without proper notification.

But no one with the big office can fix it. Leaving us stranded at home a full weekend with no insured vehicles except my mothers who thank god is still with nationwide... No one gave them permission to cancel anything at any time. I cancelled my nationwide once the State Farm was paid within an hour. I guess I should be thankful they didn't know I had motorcycles with Progressive, huh? I don't want State Farm to fix this. I now want as far away from them as I can get... Beware people. You'll be sorry!

Complaint - Cancellation of Policy

Rating: 1/51

KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON -- I canceled a policy on my 1998 Ford Ranger which I sold. Received a $48 refund from State Farm for the 1.5 months remaining on the 6-month premium paid. Refund was correct based upon number of days insured during the 6-month period. But a week later, I received a bill for $78 additional premium on my other vehicle (a Honda Ridgeline), State Farm stated "additional premium for loss of Multi-Car discount".

This policy on the Honda was renewed at a different time than the Ranger. I ended up PAYING STATE FARM $30 for CANCELING THE FORD that was sold!! How can this be (I should have kept quiet about the sale of the Ford and let that 6-month insurance expire naturally!!)?

Sneaky policy increases
By -

BOULDER, COLORADO -- I have received notices from State Farm regarding my car insurance with them asking me to give them a mileage reading every year. It seems if I drive my car more than 7500 miles a year my insurance fees increase. From what I have gathered they have recently instigated this policy. I resent very much being told how many miles I can drive or my yearly fees go up. I have several cars and a home covered through them because they told me I could get a multi coverage discount on my policy.

Now they have deemed a new way to increase revenues by upping insurance rates for people like me who are safe drivers and have been a customer for years. They are almost like car rental agencies telling you how many miles you can drive and where. Changing insurance carrier.
