NO rebate / Bad service / Forever to get an agent
By -

AT&T like all others is impossible to get someone to help with a rebate even if you sent it registered, return receipt with the US Post Office. I turned them of and put a new provider in. Still AT&T charged me an extra month of service. They wanted to charge me for two when I had turned them off. After 3 hours of disconnected calls I finally up the extra month. I also had internet connection problems because I was on a friend's new Apple computer. Guess what he has for internet service. You guess it! AT&T The old American Telegraph & Telephone.

World's Worst Service - DSL

Hope to compare notes with others suffering similar experiences. Any creative remedies? It's nearly impossible to reach an AT&T non-automated human without wasting many hours. Violating normal business "contact us" practice, there's no practical way to present highly focused very specific E-Mails to anyone at AT&T (with ANY evidence of a relevant response). AT&T left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. Clear succinct inquiries are ignored. HORRIBLE frustrating Procrustean voice menus.

After being connected to a human, one's records are NOT a few keystrokes away - but a "federal case" where one must repeat the same data again and again and again. Seldom does person answering the phone (after VERY long waits) know anything. After this ignorance is evident, one is typically switched to another person who also knows little. Between the above procedures, one is frequently tortured with automatic messages such as "your call is very important to us" or "please wait" or a variety of other automated phony "polite" canned recordings. Quite often, one is disconnected with no explanation. Actually reaching someone may take hours. Yes HOURS!

Insensitive
By -

LOUISIANA -- My brother died suddenly and tragically. As executor of his estate I worked to locate all companies that he dealt with. After 6 weeks I found that he was getting late notifications from AT&T through his email. When I notified AT&T of his passing, they refused to credit his account to time of death but wanted payment until the time the company was notified by family.

Some 6+ weeks after he had passed. They explained that as far as they knew, someone else might have been accessing his account. In comparison, Sprint said they could see that no one had accessed his account and they waived all balances and fees on his account. I paid the balance in full and wish to make other consumers aware of AT&T's insensitivity and questionable practice.

Dry Loop DSL vs. High Speed Internet with Local Phone Service
By -

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- Don't miss out on this great opportunity if you are currently an AT&T DSL customer with local phone service. Read this all the way to the end to really save! AT&T now advertises that you can "Get high-speed Internet without the need of local phone service". So, I called to make the switch. And, I was really surprised at how AT&T handled my request to switch from High Speed Internet DSL service with Local Phone Service to Dry Loop DSL (DSL Direct aka Internet Direct). I currently have Elite DSL which costs $35, + Local Phone Service $18, + tax, it adds up to about $57 a month. I was attracted to their AT&T High Speed Internet Direct Elite offer - $45 a month.

The representative was super nice and gave me two options to choose from: Either disconnect from current service and establish the Direct DSL Service which will lower my monthly bill (the whole reason I called) but I will have a down time of about 5-7 days. Or, continue with my current service without interruption and AT&T would cut their monthly Elite DSL price from $35 to $17.50 as part of their customer retention offer for 6 months. Of course, I agreed. Why not? And to make things even better, I was given $20 credit on my current bill. Doesn't get any better than that with AT&T.

This is the number I called: 800-288-2020. Told them I want to switch to Direct DSL and was transferred to another department. They handled this really quickly and here I am blogging about it 15 minutes later.

Deactivates My Security And Internet
By -

I first saw notice that my security has been deactivated early in the morning of Friday June 30 in my e mail and immediately requested by e-mail it be restored. It said they received my order for cancellation and deactivated my security. I never requested deactivation and they never gave explained why it was deactivated. Did someone somehow get a hold of personal info on me? I did not know and no one at AT&T seemed to think they should have to answer to me. If you are wondering-yes my bill is always paid. They screwed up.

When I tried to get on the internet Friday night my internet was not working. They had deactivated that too. I contacted AT&T and requested it be reactivated and the first time I was told it would be reactivated in a few hours. It was not. On later calls I was told customer service would have to reactivate it but they were not available on the weekends. It was finally restored sometime after 11 pm Sunday night. I was without internet service the whole weekend and that is when I do most of my work on my website which is about investigations I do, so it was a huge setback.

My complaints are the following:

  1. They deactivated my security.
  2. They deactivated internet service.
  3. They gave no notice to warn me before they deactivated the internet.
  4. They made no one available to me who could correct the problem in a timely manner.

There is obviously a flaw in the way they treat customers so some CEO is making way too much money for providing lousy service.

$90 rip off
By -

WICHITA, KANSAS -- My 2-wire power supply failed. OK, can't cost too much at AT&T store but NO, they sell only complete modem kit for $100. No Pwr Sup at Radio Shack or Best Buy. Need Internet NOW, so go back to AT&T store and lay down my $100. Get connected and look at AT&T on the web and there is my supply for $10! That is TEN. Why does the Maize Road store not carry these? I have been ripped off by AT&T. Not the way to build consumer loyalty. Cox cable is starting to look pretty good.
