Design Flaw Repairs Cost More Than Original Purchase Price

ATLANTA, GEORGIA -- In 2008, I purchased a brand new Frigidaire Side by side refrigerator model # FRS3R4EW4. Since then I have had to hire a repair technician 3 times at the cost of $249.00 each time. I have had to throw out hundreds of dollars' worth of spoiled food, mop up water and try to restore damages to my hardwood floors. For what I've lost, I could have purchased another new refrigerator.

There is a design flaw with part # AP3837323. This is the start-run relay, aka "compressor kick starter". Looking at several websites, you will see that this is the first complaint about this refrigerator series. Please don't waste your time trying to call the customer service 800 number. What a joke! They only try to sell you something and record your phone number to sell to telemarketer lists.

They also don't speak English and know nothing about appliances or repair issues. Also, be prepared to wait on the phone a long, long time as you hear, "Your call is important to us" repeated many times. This product is sold under several popular appliance names such as Whirlpool, Kenmore, and a few more.

Also before you buy a fridge, make sure it's manufactured in the USA. These are mass produced in Mexico. If you buy one, be prepared to listen to a huge array of vibrating, rattling and obnoxious sounds coming from the back of the fridge. Also it would be prudent to buy at least 3 $60.00 relay parts as you will soon need to replace them. PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Service Was Very Very Poor

NEW YORK -- My refrigerator broke down. So I kept calling the registered service provider for Frigidaire for three days & nobody ever called back. So I opted to call a private service (not affiliated w/ Frigidaire) to diagnosed what's wrong, & he found out it's the Compressor. So I called again the refrigerator dept. of Frigidaire & finally they sent the service man after calling for 3 days, w/an 8-month-old baby!!

Now, even though this service man is their service, I still have to PAY for their service fee. I already know what is wrong w/ the refrigerator! Plus, they don't have the unit (Compressor) they told me I have to wait for 2 weeks, imagine!! WHY I have to PAY for the service if it's under warranty. WHY I have to wait 2 wks. for the unit. It's really unfathomable the fact that I have a baby too, who is relying food, in the refrigerator! The Product SUCKS as well as the PEOPLE working in Frigidaire.

Many Factory Defects, Poor Quality

LIMA, OHIO -- We bought a brand new refrigerator a few years ago and have had nothing but trouble with it. Twice we had the repairman out over factory issues, one being glue did not hold so a piece of foam was getting in the fan blade. Second time, some goo from the factory was blocking the defrost in the back. Now we are having issues again, that no one can seem to resolve, and Frigidaire simply does not care. Their customer service stinks. Overall, we have spent over 600.00 on a three-year-old piece of junk, including all of the food we have had to throw away.

Frigidaire Upper Icemakers DO NOT WORK!

ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA -- I have had seven (5) service calls (where I have to be home for a 4-hour window) over the past 11 months on the upper ice maker in this brand new fridge. Finally the repairman said he had done all he could and didn't know what was wrong with it. He recommended that I write Frigidaire and ask for a replacement, which I did. I am now on my second (yes, two more four hour windows!) service call on the NEW one for the same upper ice maker that does not make ice but manages to piss on my kitchen floor every couple of hours. I am going to try to elevate this complaint but find it ridiculous that I have to go through all this on not one, but two brand new Frigidaire refrigerators.

We bought $4,000+ of new Frigidaire kitchen appliances from them through Lowe's and have been happy with the gas stove, microwave, and dishwasher. We would even be happy with the fridge if the upper ice maker worked. I just paid $100 to extend the warranty ONLY because of all the problems and don't want to give the company the chance to wash their hands of it because the warranty ran out. I'm not holding my breath for a fix this time though! Are you listening Frigidaire? Do you CARE? Can you fix it THIS TIME?

Frigidaire Customer Service
By -

Our refrigerator stopped working after purchasing it 6 months ago. We purchased a Frigidaire model # FFH2612LS from ABC Warehouse in Michigan. We experienced no problems until it just stopped working. It was in the middle of the night and we lost a ton of food. We called ABC customer service and originally the first service company was not going to be able to make it until the following day; which in my opinion was too long. So I called Frigidaire's customer service and the representative actually told me that I was lucky to have a service company get to me that quick.

I told her That's a horrible attitude to have and you should never tell a customer that they're lucky, after your product that is 6 months old died and cost them around $500. 24 hours later we still don't have a refrigerator and we won't have one for 4 more days. Also to add to the pain the service technician said that after he fixes it that there is no guarantee that it won't break again. He told us to call Frigidaire and tell them are problem because he believed that we should get a new one. Frigidaire would not agree to give us a new one instead they said that this had to be fixed first. And if it broke again in the next 6 months they will replace it. THAT'S REAL COMFORTING!!!

Frigidaire - bad product

P.O. BOX 212378, GEORGIA -- I bought a Frigidaire refrigerator on 3/27/2010. It was delivered and install on 4/9/2010. Within 2 days the water dispenser stopped working and the temperature in the refrigerator would not stay constant which resulted in frozen food. I have had the refrigerator serviced by an authorized Frigidaire service company 3 times.

4/16/2010 - Service person came and diagnosed issue with solenoid. 4/23/2010 - Service person came in and replaced the Solenoid, did not fix the problem. Diagnosed issue with dampers. 4/30/2010 - came back to replace the dampers but refrigerator had stopped working on 4/26/2010 all together. Service person diagnosed the issue with main control unit.

I did not have a refrigerator for 4 days. Frigidaire customer service told me "why don't you go rent a refrigerator!!!" The dealer has stepped up with a loaner while I wait for Frigidaire to respond. At this point they refuse to replace this unit. Frigidaire products and customer service has to the worse. I did spent $1200 for a refrigerator that died after 2 days.

Frigidaire Is a Low-End Brand

I purchased a new refrigerator for a rental house in November. It was a $400.00 unit that I would have expected to last 4 to 5 years. However, after 6 months I found myself having to call customer service to get warranty repair. The unit stopped cooling. After suffering through an hour long call with a representative from Manila who I think missed the customer service classes (extremely rude and uncaring), a service person was scheduled to the rental house.

After the repairperson completed the work, it stopped working within a day. After calling back, I got little sympathy from the customer service staff. I had an unhappy renter and an equally rude Frigidaire customer service person who after another 1 hr told me that within a week a service person would call to repair the unit. I cannot stress how much I would not recommend that anyone purchase products from this company and if you do, be prepared.

Refrigerator is a piece of **!
By -

CALERA, ALABAMA -- We purchased our stainless steel side by side refrigerator in the February of 2007. For the past 5 months, this fridge has stopped cooling 5 times. We unplug and mess with it and suddenly it starts working again. The last time this didn't happen. I called customer service and was told it was out of warranty but in a "one-time goodwill gesture," they would repair the problem. We had an authorized service tech come out and couldn't find a problem but replaced the entire motherboard system.

OK, one month later, we are having the same problem. Everything I am reading online tells me that this is the compressor. Also, I am told that this has a five-year parts/service warranty. I have called Frigidaire and was told that the service tech said the compressor was fine last month. I am so frustrated!!! I am tired of pulling my food in and out of my refrigerator! I will never ever buy another Frigidaire appliance!

What a Lemon
By -

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- I purchased a Frigidaire Side by Side Refrigerator Model # PLHS267ZAB for $1427 in December 2002 when I remodeled my kitchen. It was installed in February, 2003. Fortunately for me I have continued to purchase the extended warranty through GE Service Contract as there has been $1,614 of repairs to replace parts that broke on this unit including: 1/19/07 Sub filter, $ 65.73. 1/19/07 Damper Thermostat/Control, 213.49. 3/10/07 Ice Dispenser Not Working, 85.00. 7/02/07 Compressor/Drier/Start Switch, 434.49. 12/19/07 New water valve and defrost water line, 167.04. 12/30/08 Compressor, 648.30. Total: $1,614.

With all these breakdowns I was unable to use my refrigerator for weeks at a time between the initial service call and the ordering of the needed new parts. I contacted the customer service division in late December to question the continued repairing of a refrigerator that is obviously a lemon. The customer relations person I spoke with said they would replace the broken compressor even though it had just been replaced less than 1 1/2 years earlier. She offered to send me $100 for food loss which had never been done with all the previous breakdowns.

The compressor was replaced this past Monday Jan. 5, 2009. The refrigerator is still not cooling properly. The freezer continues to be leaking water so it is evident the problem has not been fixed and another service call will be needed. I do not understand how in a little under 6 years so many parts could need repair and replacement. I am sorry I ever chose to purchase a Frigidaire Refrigerator. I want everyone to know they should steer clear of this appliance. Fortunately for me I still have 2 more years left on the GE service contract. I am sure they will be called on to replace additional parts.

Frigidaire Will Not Replace Lemon Refrigerator Under Extended Warranty
By -

ANDERSON ISLAND, WASHINGTON -- Over the past 2 years, I've had multiple service calls against the same refrigerator, which is under extended warranty. Each time Frigidaire replace a different part, and it always ends up failing again. It is only a $450 refrigerator, and they have to-date spent at least 3 times that trying to fix it.

The latest service call was on 12/11/2008, and the tech that looked at it told me it was going to cost more to repair it than the unit was worth and that he was going to call Frigidaire to get it declared non-repairable. When he contacted Frigidaire, the technicians he spoke to on the phone would not declare it non-repairable, and told him they want to try to replace yet more parts on the unit. The parts they put on order cost more than the unit itself, plus if you factor labor costs in, once again they are spending more to fix the unit that it's worth.

It has become a waste of time and effort. When I called their consumer line, they will not budge on trying to repair it yet again, and will not replace it. They have a very unhappy customer and are spending more money to attempt to fix something than it would cost to replace it. They need to do the right thing and replace the refrigerator. This SHOULD BE a no-brainer. MODEL NUMBER: FRT17G4BW6
