A Botched Delivery Damages Our Home
By -

SAUGERTIES, NEW YORK -- We bought our refrigerator from Sears on 6/17/07. They delivered it on 6/25/07. The delivery men hardly spoke any English. They loaded the refrigerator on the dolly facing the front, despite instructions with pictures taped to the front of the refrigerator that said specifically not to load it that way but instead to load it sideways. They jammed it through an interior doorway that it did not quite fit through, damaging the doorway, and the refrigerator and exposing lead paint in the process.

We have a one year old son so this was especially a concern. They left our house with paint chips all over the floor for me to clean up. Now, weeks later, they have still not made good on their promise to compensate us $300 for the damage and are not even returning my phone calls. I will never give Sears another dime for anything. Thanks for your support.

I Will Never Shop at Sears Again.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA -- I have never experienced such horrible customer service from a company in my life. On July 15, my husband and I bought a refrigerator from the Sears at Ross Park Mall. It was delivered on July 21, 2012. The delivery people were not careful in unloading the refrigerator and broke the prong on the electrical cord. I cannot plug in my refrigerator. I was told that someone would come to repair my refrigerator on Monday, July 23. Not ideal, but whatever.

On Monday, I received a call telling me that delivery people were on their way to help me with my dryer. Hello, my dryer is fine. It is my refrigerator which cannot even be plugged in. After spending over an hour on the phone being transferred from one department to the next, being disconnected, and waiting on hold, I was told that we would receive a call on Tuesday night with the window period for when a repairman would come to fix the refrigerator. I never received a phone call. I called Sears this morning asking why the hell have I not received a call saying when a repairman would be coming. They said that someone would come between 1-5 P.M.

While I was out, I received a phone call from Sears informing me that there are not any repair technicians available today, that is why we didn't receive any confirmation call last night; I was told that the next date when a repair person would be available is on August 2, 2012. I yelled at the customer service person. 11 days without a working refrigerator. It is not my fault that Sears' delivery people broke the prong on the electric cord for my refrigerator. I would be up a creek without a paddle had my husband not found a replacement prong at Home Depot; this is absolutely unprofessional and wrong.

My Kenmore stainless steel refrigerator with filtered water and ice on the door
By -

LAGRANGE, GEORGIA -- I bought my Sears side by side stainless Kenmore refrigerator last July with filtered water and ice on the door. I spent more on this one appliance than I have ever spent on any appliance before (and they lasted 20 years) It is still under warranty. I have had two issues with the refrigerator. The first thing that happened was the ice maker went out. Now the whole cooling system has gone out. I lost several hundred dollars in food items including a 22 lb turkey. When I called Sears for repair I was told that it would be the 23 of July before they could even come out and look at my refrigerator -- a full two weeks.

Needless to say that in the middle of July with 100 degree temperatures and no refrigeration, I am not a happy person with my "new" refrigerator that has water and ice on the door. When I asked Sears to replace this refrigerator, I was told that they could not do so and was offered a six month extended warranty. They say that I must have 4 major occurrences of malfunction in one year for it to fall under the lemon law. Does that mean that I must loose thousands of dollar in food before they will do anything? They obviously do not care about good customer service and are only interested in selling the products and hanging the consumer out to dry.

They do not want to stand behind their products which in my case was a bad refrigerator. I spent over the last year several thousand dollars with Sears with the purchase of one riding lawn mower and one push lawn mower, refrigerator filters, and a refrigerator. Obviously this will be the last dollars I will spend at Sears and I will be writing my reviews on any website that will allow me to do so.

Sears Refrigerator and Repairs
By -

GULF COAST AREA, TEXAS -- Word of mouth is their best advertisement. Yesterday, a representative (repairperson) came to my home and repaired my refrigerator. Before he did the work, he gave me an estimate. The cost was $178 labor and $58 for parts. If I had said no then I would have had to pay a $60 service charge and still have a non working refrigerator. I have been buying Sears products for 35 years and that has come to an end as of yesterday. It took the repairperson less than 45 minutes to do the job, that is over $200 an hour for labor.

My family doctor doesn't charge me that much. My mechanic doesn't charge me that much per hour. Why should a Sears repairman demand that kind of money when they know you're stuck and need help? I would not recommend Sears to you or any person I know, and I would recommend that you take this into consideration when purchasing a product from Sears. Sears had the best appliances for many years, but now they don't last five years. When we bought our last dryer from Sears, the salesperson told us that Sears makes their products to only last five years.

Our freezer is a Kenmore but it is made by Frigidaire and we had problems with it in less than two years. Our refrigerator is a Kenmore but it is made by Whirlpool and it broke down in 20 months. What I am saying is, Sears products don't last and if you don't buy their service policy then you're in for the surprise of your life when you call Sears for a repair job. I told the representative that I was going to post this on every bulletin board I could find on the internet and that is just what I am doing. Good luck if you use Sears (own by K-Mart).

Service Repair Installation and Customer Service
By -

CHICO, CALIFORNIA -- If you are thinking of buying a major appliance at Sears because you believe that they back their products with service, be forewarned. It wasn't true for me. When we bought our refrigerator we had Sears deliver and install it. One and a half years later we found our kitchen, washroom, and 2nd bathroom covered in water. The hose that connects the water to the refrigerator had come apart where Sears had connected it.

I called and Sears sent a "service repairman". He told me that he couldn't fix the problem because the original installer had used a plastic hose that was too thin. I asked what Sears and was told that an installer would be sent to fix the pipe from the water feed. Several phone calls later, I finally arranged for the installer to come. I didn't complain when Sears called and postponed the appointment one day, nor did I object when they called to say that they would be an hour and a quarter late. In fact they were an hour and three quarter late.

They looked at the job and said they couldn't fix it with the present hose; that I would need an installer. "Who are you then?", I asked. "We are the delivery men. We can't replace the hose. The installer no longer works for Sears." They left promising to ask for an installer. I thought I should talk to customer service at Sears. BIG MISTAKE! I made three calls lasting a little under two hours. I first got hung up by the least user friendly auto-operator system. When I did get through BOTH the operators transferred me off, one to a dead end that hung up and the other to terminal hold.

I figured that after waiting one hour for someone to come back on my line that I was out of luck. I still don't know what to do. I am facing a lot of expensive repair work on floors, sheet rock, and due to this accident I have found carcinogenic tiles in the bathroom. I also have a SEARS refrigerator with no water or ice machine for which I paid extra. Learn from my mistake. Go elsewhere for your appliance and service.

Terrible Service on Extended Refrigerator Warranty

LITTLETON, COLORADO -- Two years into an expensive three year extended warranty, top of the line Samsung French Door refrigerator began freezing food in the refrigerator section. Called Sears Warranty. Set a service appointment. OK so far. Wait for the 1/2 day window. No one shows or calls. Call Sears. They know nothing. After much pressure and confusion, they give me a phone number of All Appliance Service. I call. Lady says, “Oh, glad you called. All Sears gave us was your name.” “Really?” I said, “No phone, address, etc.?” “Nope, just your name. Did not know how to reach you.”

“OK. So here is my info, send a guy!” Guy finally comes out. Has NO idea why he is there or what he is to be servicing. Looks in my refrigerator. Hems and haas and decides I have too much food in there! WTF? “Too much food? It has always had that much food, as have all my refrigerators.” “Oh, yeah, that's your problem.” I argue. He leaves. OK, so I move stuff around and take out stuff. Freezing continues. Big surprise. Three week later, refrigerator quits working, big surprise. Call Sears. Dumb ** named ** sets me an appointment for two days away.

I stress how badly the last event went. She promises to be better. She tells me the same idiot will be my tech. No options. I call All Appliance the next day. Zip and nada is what they have on the appointment, Big surprise. Call Sears back. They tell me I am confirmed for an appointment ONE WEEK FROM NOW! WTF? I have no refrigerator!!! Do you really think a week is OK? Well sir, BS BS. Hung up on me. I call back. Ask for supervisor. They put me on hold and hang up. I call back and ask for a supervisor, They put me on hold and another unsuspecting lady picks up and I go nuts.

She puts me on hold and says she can't send me to a supervisor. Doesn't know how. She says she will have route manager call me and will alert my Preferred Vendor! NO - All Appliance is NOT my preferred anything. 'Says here it is, sir!' She finally admits they are 'overflow' backup. I am still waiting for the route manager, and I do not know if I have an appointment. I will NEVER buy anything from Sears again. I have always supported them as they are veteran friendly. Done with them. This is a company on the way out.

MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- We purchased a refrigerator from Sears March 2,2012.. My husband rented a U-Haul to go pick it up at the warehouse instead of waiting the extra week it would have taken to get the refrigerator delivered. It cost the same amount of money but we thought it would save us time. He drove out to the seacoast, got home. That's when I noticed after it was unwrapped they had given us the wrong unit (a lesser model).

After complaining to management (from the Sears store) and arguing with the warehouse manager they finally agreed to have the next unit delivered. That arrived some weeks later. It was the wrong unit again and the delivery guy got irate because WE were taking up his time while trying to figure out if it was truly the wrong one again. He became SO belligerent and threatening that we had to tell him to leave the property or we would call the police.

That's when he got in his truck (at 7 in the morning on a Saturday) and started honking his horn loudly and acting like a tough guy (he told us he did not work for Sears & couldn't care less if we complained because he didn't answer to them.. he worked for Excel).

That was only ONE of many failed attempts of this company Excel to deliver a suitable unit to our home. This went on for 6 WHOLE months with the unit either being the wrong one or having damage on it. Now mind you I REALLY should have told them forget it after the first 2 or 3 attempts instead I kept being assured that things would be taken care of, a new guy would come in the picture and say he would make certain (blah blah blah.. lies lies) and this went on for several MORE deliveries.

I HAD done business with Sears exclusively for 21 years up till this point then on Aug 10, 2012 Sears Delivery damaged my home by flooding it. They broke the water line & attached it improperly August 10 2012 (problem date) March 2, 2012 (purchase date). After numerous attempts to have this refrigerator delivered on August 10, 2012 the Sears delivery team showed up an hour and a half early. I told the driver that they were early and it would be a few minutes before we had the contents of the other refrigerator unloaded. He got very sarcastic.

Sears Will Not Repair My Brand New Refrigerator

COVINGTON, VIRGINIA -- I purchased a brand new Samsung refrigerator from Sears in Covington Virginia on July 5, 2012. I picked it up and installed it myself. When I got the refrigerator home I took the plastic wrap off and opened the doors. There was no paper work, no water line fitting and it was missing 2 bins on the refrigerator door. I went back to the store the next day and I was given a water line fitting and was told that they would order the bins for my door, which as of today I have not received. I installed the unit and I had to eliminate the extra ground prong on the power cord because my receptacles do not have the 3rd hole for the prong.

I got everything hooked up, everything works with the exception of the ice dispenser. The ice maker makes ice but the motor that turns the auger does nothing. I called Sears service and a serviceman came to my home and checked it out and said it needed a new circuit board. He ordered it and it was sent to my home. He came Monday - July 23, 2012 and started to repair it and then said that my warranty has been voided because the prong on the power cord was missing.

I happen to know that the extra safety prong has nothing to do with the operation of the unit. It is there as a safety ground to protect someone from being shocked in the event that the main ground would fail. He said that I was just stuck with - too bad. I am very upset to say the least. I spent 939.00 for a new refrigerator that came with no paper work - no water line fitting - 2 bins missing from the door and an ice dispenser that does not work. I am 61 years old and have shopped at Sears my entire adult life but after this I will never darken the doors of their stores and I am also contacting an attorney.

I don't care what it costs and I don't care if I Win or lose, I am going to pursue this with everything I have. I was very nice about not having the paper work, fitting and the 2 bins but when they refuse to fix a brand new unit that is where I draw the line. Look it up on the net about the round safety plug and every site will say the same thing, that the round safety plug has no effect on the operation of appliances. Talking about scam artist - Sears has to be the best - Instead of satisfaction guaranteed it is buy it and screw you.

Unreliable and Dishonest

HONOLULU, HAWAII -- I had a scheduled appointment to repair my refrigerator. I took a half day off to wait for the window of repair for the morning. My first call was in the morning to redo. Confirmed my appointment since I had not heard from them. They assured me that the appointment would happen. I called an hour later to check on the appointment and was told that they would contact the service person. They came back on the line and said the service person was on his way. An hour later I again called and said not one arrived. Again putting me in hold to call the service person to check the status.

They came back on the line and again was assured that he was on his way. The 4th call another hour later. They again put me on hold came back on the line and said that the service person came and left because no one was home and that they left a message on my door. I told them that was impossible as I had been waiting now for over 4 hours and calling every hour to be told they were on their way and now told that they came and left? Besides that there was no note on my door and additionally I live in a secured condominium and the service person would not be able to get through the security door without calling me first.

They apologized and said that the appointment had been rescheduled to another day a couple of weeks later. I told them that was not acceptable and besides the date they rescheduled it for would not work for me as I would be traveling and so he looked for another date which was going to be a month later!!!

Now after checking various sites and reading other reviews of Sears service that my case is not an isolated one and that there continues to be bad experiences. I guess Sears feels that they are large enough that these kinds of incidences don't concern them and is in the long run not going to affect their bottom line. It's sad to know that they can continue this kind of mentality. What can consumers do? Why are they allowed to continue giving this kind of service with no consequences?

Appliances not reliable, sales does not share truthful info. No local help available.

In 2007, we had a total kitchen renovation. Spent several thousand dollars with Sears. Bought warranty agreement. Within first year, one of the most expensive products, two drawer dishwasher $15.00 needed repair. Had to go to an international representative for Sears. Took about hour on phone to schedule. Two guys came out, had to order parts. Took several days. Came back to tell us it was wrong part, needed a little plastic part. Later, same dishwasher again had problem leaking. Had to go to a plumber. Then back through entire process again. Never really ever worked correctly again.

The second year, we were in Florida. Came home to find it had leaked again and was not working at all. Called Sears, again international person (difficult to understand) informed us that our warranty had expired 31 days earlier. Before that first year, they called almost harassing us about additional warranties and services but failed to notify us regarding the dishwasher warranty that was going to expire... wonder why. Could it be they knew it was a lemon. Now this year, we had a built in refrigerator that is a special type, to go out. Possibly lightning damage.

I notified Sears again to be told... "Acts of nature are not covered by a warranty..." but they would be glad to send a service person and give me a deal on a new one but I would need to by another warranty. Are you serious? But like a fool, I did so. I had to rent a refrigerator until I could get things repaired. The appliance center that I rented from... loaned me the refrig... fixed mine for $90.00 but said it indeed had lightning damage and will probably go out again in 3 or 4 months. So to get another, I have to have my built in cabinets redone or remove my granite kitchen island, so I'm basically in a mess.

I went online and the reviews on all these appliance are awful. Example... refrig = "Looks nice but not reliable", dishwasher = A real lemon, etc. I had no way of going online prior to purchase but even if I tried, it would not have been possible because it was a Kenmore elite made by Whirlpool which is now made by Frigidaire... huh? So who is the responsible product maker? I hope to never ever have to darken a Sears doorway again!
