Pushy Sears Salesman - Central Air
By -

HOPEWELL, NEW JERSEY -- I am planning on getting central air installed and contacted Sears for an estimate. I was given a price of $13K for a Kenmore 13 Seer. The salesman was very pushy and insisted that I sign a contract that very evening otherwise the $1000 discount he gave me would gone if I don't sign the contract immediately. He kept touting what a big company Sears is and if that is the case, Sears should be able to stick by the same estimate either today, tomorrow or next week.

I found the salesman tactic dubious and told him I am not planning on signing the contract until I have had a chance to do more research on the product he is trying to sell. I am glad to find all these reviews about other members' experiences with central air installation by Sears. His sales tactic really turned me off and reading your feedback confirmed that I should stay away from Sears.

Sears = Lousy Service
By -

BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN -- In October of this year I bought a new heating/air conditioning system from Sears. Two days after it was installed we had an unusually hot day so I turned the air conditioner on. It didn't work properly so my wife called Sears to see if they could come to check it out. She was told that we would be contacted by someone else "shortly".

Two WEEKS later I received a letter telling me that because of the time of the year they would not be able to test it properly & that I should contact them in the Spring. I have COPD, so not having air conditioning is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Needless to say I will never again buy anything from Sears, K-Mart, or any of their affiliates. If there is any doubt as to why Sears is doing so poorly in comparison to other big stores maybe they ought to remember what customer service is all about. They surely don't have any!

SORRY SERVICE for air condition
By -

MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA -- I purchased a new a/c unit last June of 2004 a central unit complete with all new duct work in my house. $5000.00 with a 10-year parts and labor included ha ha... On August 2, 2005 it went dead sometime during the night. I called Sears on August 3rd 7:30 am and they told me it could be over a week before they could get here. I informed them that my wife suffered from breathing problems and they stated that they would have someone here on maybe on August 4th.

They did... but then no parts and the guy told me they get it overnight to me, well overnight to me would be August 5th well to them it is August 6th. But guess what, no parts or anyone showed up. I have called and talked to everyone but President Bush. What a joke. Never the same person twice or they don't exist, even when you tell them the person's name. Well it is Sunday night August 7th and still hot as ever. I went to store and purchased a unit to go in bedroom for wife on Thursday. It was 97 in my house. HOT!!!

But my complaint is service. Sorry no good service. Sorry no good management. Sorry no good products. I will never ever purchase anything from Sears and I would like to start a national association against the purchase of items from Sears. Why purchase anything when something like this happens, with a don't care attitude. Just wait we will get there sometime. Not ever again for me...

NEW YORK -- I requested a repair appt. via email detailing the position of the Sears Kenmore air conditioner in the window. I was given an appt. for ten days after the request, with a window of 8 am-5pm. On the morning of the appt., the repair person called, en route, and said that if the air conditioner was not removed from the window, he could not repair it. I immediately called customer service and was told to expect a phone call within the hour. That was several hours ago. If the situation is not remedied by the close of business today, I am likely to replace the air conditioner, and definitely not, and never again, with a Sears product.

Company Response :

Jpaznik, We do apologize for failing to meet your expectations with your window air conditioner repairs. I understand how crucial it is to have a working air conditioner and to be confident with the technician's abilities. We have assigned a case manager to work directly with you to satisfy your needs as a valued customer. We have received your contact information and will ensure your case manager receives your post for further consideration. Again, we're sorry for any trouble we have caused and we look forward to resolving your concerns.

FOREST HILLS, NEW YORK -- Forest Hills N. Y.I made an appointment for a regular check up and a eventual refill of the freon. They quoted a price off $130 for the check-up and $32/pound for the freon. When the "SPECIALIST" named ** arrived he tried hard to sell me anything I did not asked for and when I asked him to just do the check-up and to tell me if is need for any freon refill, he started to get unfriendly and very irritated and said that he will put the freon only after he will fix the "leak".What leak? I normally asked. You have a leek he said.

How do you know if you didn't even check, I said. I don't need to check because when you need refill that means that it's a leak he said. Finally after some back and forth he told me that I need 4 pounds of freon and will charge me $400. I told him that this price its different from what I was told and now he had enough and started cursing me. PERFECT SERVICE. I called Sears to complain and I was told that a supervisor will call me. So far I am still waiting HOW LONG? Looks like for ever. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAPPEN TO YOU WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO ME.

Bad Product, Horrible Customer Service & Repair
By -

MEDFORD, OREGON -- We have had nothing but trouble with Sears and their contracted service dealer, A&E, to maintain our heat pump purchased in 2004. The product came with a 10-year warranty and we have had service call after service call over the past year. In the hot summer months, it took 4 weeks to finally get the air conditioner repaired after 3 service calls. Now, with a daytime high temperature of 34 degrees, we are without heat.

The worst part is, the earliest service call is 12 days away. Unacceptable in our eyes and Sears is uncooperative in helping us in any way. We have been a Sears customer for over 40 years and have had enough. We will never set foot in a Sears store again.

Terrible Service

In 2008 I purchased a new furnace and air conditioning system from Sears. Even though they were the highest price quote, I went with them because I thought I could trust them for quality product and service. What a mistake! At first had problems with the furnace not working, and I guess because Sears does not service the products themselves had to wait days for someone to look at it. And I took a couple of times before it was finally fixed.

Then last year I phoned them about the air conditioning not working. They said someone would call in the next few days to come over and look at it. Well no one called, and since I was going in the hospital then, I didn't bother with it again that year.

So I called again this year, and they said to be at home on July 15 for someone to look at it. So I'm another day off work waiting for someone, I get a phone call from the people doing the service for Sears saying "we can't come today, we will come next Wednesday." Well I just hope they come on Wednesday, because if they don't, I'm going to lose it!

Company Response 7/20/2011:

Dear bissed off-151930:

We found this post and I wanted to reach out and express our concern and our deepest apologies for this situation. When we set up a service call, we anticipate that we can get the service tech to your home and the service completed within the time frame we give you. The issue with your service was most likely because a technician was held on service appointments that took longer than expected. We can't ask a tech to leave a job partially done in order to make the next appointment(s). We wouldn't do that to you or any of our customers. We also can't know how long a particular job is going to take until the technician gets to the job and diagnoses the issue. Many times it takes longer because we are not going to cut corners for the sake of time. This does cause delays on occasion, but sacrificing quality for time is simply not an option for us. Of course, this is not an excuse, just an explanation. That being said you should have been contacted and added to the next day's route, or the first route you would be available for due to the cancellation. We certainly would have liked to have serviced your air conditioner last year but are very happy to come this year to help with your air conditioner. We would like to talk with you to see how we can make this right for you and make sure that your current appointment is met.

My name is Susan and I'm part of the Sears Cares Escalations team. At your convenience, please contact my office via email at smsupport@searshc.com so we can get this resolved for you. In the email, please provide a contact phone number and the phone number the air conditioner was purchased under (if different than the contact phone number) and we will call you directly. Also, in your email, please provide the screen name (bissed off-151930) you used to post on this site, for reference to your issue and we do look forward to talking to you soon.

Thank you,
Susan R.

Why should everything break down after a couple of years of use. Good bye SEARS! I lent him a window unit as times are tough for him and the city is hot! Thanks for the junk SEARS!!!!! Why bother with a rude and over priced goof ball Sears technician. Good Bye SEARS!

Deplorable Service

RE: PCMB10000EH Portable Air Conditioner (the “Unit”); [Additional Information Intentionally Omitted] I am writing to you because I am unable to solve a problem we hare having with your Customer Service Department and support.. I will describe the difficulties we are having and tell you what we demand be done about it.

On June 2, 2009, I purchased the above-referenced Unit from Sears on June 2, 2009. At time of order, it was agreed that the Unit would be brought into the house and unboxed, and not left outside on the porch. On June 9, 2009 the Unit was delivered; damaged and left on the front porch without notification of its arrival.

On June 9, 2009, I called your Customer Service Department and advised them of the damage and situation. I was told by your Representative that I would need to order a second Unit from Sears using a credit card. Furthermore, I would not receive credit to my account for the existing damaged Unit until it was delivered back to the warehouse. I told your Representative that an additional charge to my credit charge is unacceptable and I intended to pursue this matter further. I also informed your Representative that there was no way we would accept the Unit in its current condition.

We are completely dissatisfied with your customer service support pursuant to resolution of this issue. I am hoping that you will review this matter very carefully in the next few days and let us know if further action will be necessary. Portland, Oregon.

Sears Repair Contracts Are A Fraud
By -

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- I have two long term repair contracts ("Repair Protection Agreement") with Sears for two a/c units. I contacted Sears and scheduled a repair appointment with their a/c repair technician. The technician was a no-show on the first appointment. The technician was likewise a no-show on the re-scheduled appointment. Both appointments required that I take a day off from work to be home for a four hour "window".

I have called the scheduling department numerous times to complain. They insist that insuring compliance with an appointment is out of their control. I have requested several times to be connected with a supervisor. Each time, I have been refused, and put on indefinite hold. Clearly, these long term repair contracts that Sears sells are a fraud. They have no intention of providing any repairs. It was a mistake for me to have purchased the units from Sears in the first place (another long story). It was an even greater mistake to have purchased the Repair Protection Agreement. Do not make my mistake. Avoid Sears and their multitude of inept contractors at all costs.
