Sears Doubles Interest Rate On Closed Accounts???
By -

FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA -- Sears closed my credit card account in 2003 because of an error on my credit report made by my mortgage company. Nonetheless, after taking 8 months to clear the error, I kept the account closed and have been paying it off. For the first time, my interest rate on my Sears account doubled this month. A Sears representative said there was a change in terms across the board that affected all accounts, closed accounts as well - which he said they found confusing too. I had to opt out over the phone to reverse this.

Once an account has been closed and your payments are always on time, how can they raise your interest rate?? Is this legal? Also, is it legal for a credit card company to close your account because of a report from another credit entity? I quit shopping Sears since they closed my account in 2003 over a mistaken report made by my mortgage company. I still won't shop there, and once this damn card is paid off, I'm done with them completely!

Rip Off Interest Rate

SHEBOYGAN, WISCONSIN -- I have had a credit card with Sears for Over 30 years. My wife and I have spent thousands of dollars on appliances, clothing, and other things. We have never been late on a payment, always paid more than the standard payment and have a credit score of over 800. Our interest rate was 28%. We called a supervisor and asked if they would lower it. To our surprise, the answer was NO. They told us that Sears gave great deals so therefore they would not lower the rate. I told them we would pay them off in full immediately and cancel the card. They said fine. We did just that and have taken our business elsewhere.

Phone Purchase With Credit Card

MUNCY, PENNSYLVANIA -- I live in Williston, FL. My son lives in Watsontown, PA. On June 24 he called asking if I could order a hot water heater for him on my credit card and he would pay me back. His went poof a few days earlier. You know how it is when they are just starting out. He had researched and found one at his local Sears. Not a problem since we had called the same store on May 17 and purchased him a garage door opener for his birthday.

When it came down to putting it on my credit card I was told that they will only take Sears card over the phone. I explained that I had just made a purchase a month ago with no problem and that I do not have a Sears card. The salesman said “I have another customer.” and hung up. I called back and talked to a manager who told me the same thing. Neither person offered me a Sears card either.

I ended up purchasing the hot water heater from Lowe's. They had no problem taking my other credit card even though I do have a Lowe's card. Many years ago I did have a Sears card but in the early 90's I had a very bad experience with their service department and appliance manager and swore never to purchase from Sears again. The garage door opener was from my husband. But this experience just reminded me of why I stopped dealing with Sears. Sad, because I furnished 6 homes with Sears appliances and purchased my son's clothes there and usually birthday, anniversary, wedding, etc., etc. gifts there.

Sears/Citigroup Card Rip-Off
By -

DAYTON, OHIO -- I noticed a charge of $25 for a Reward on my June 2007 statement. I called Sears/Citibank and told them I didn't order or want any type of reward so please remove this charge from my account. On the next statement the $25 was credited but I incurred finance charges and a $39 late fee for non-payment. I refused to pay this and wrote the company. The next month another $39. They have taken to harassing me by telephone and the balance of this card is now over $100 for finance and late fees on a charge I did not authorize.

When they call they tell me I have to call someone else to discuss my problem but they will take my payment. No way! I have cut the card up and returned it to them after being a Sears customer for over 50 years. Sears good name is being ruined by shotty customer service and poor practices. I will never shop there again.

Sears Card Scam
By -

I am writing this on behalf of my mom. My step dad got a Sears credit card some ten year ago without my mother's knowledge. Nothing extravagant was ever purchased like appliances or the likes. He had a stroke about seven years ago that left him paralyzed and unable to talk. My mother has paid on the card ever since, she is only able to pay the minimum because she is a senior on disability. He was a roofer and they have no money to speak of. She lives off her disability check each month.

I found out about this a few years ago and have tried to get help from Sears many times because she is paying on the interest alone. What ever my step dad owed had been paid for and then some. Of course that'€™s what Sears wants. She does not even know what she is paying for and Sears won'€™t tell her. I believe the last bill said she owed seven hundred dollars. But it will never go down. They even told her she was late one time and added another hundred on for late fee.

She has since got the power of attorney over my stepdad just to find out what she is paying on. Sears has not gotten back with her yet. She figures if she finds out that he bought something like a chain saw for two hundred and she has paid them over five hundred over the years maybe they will be a little sympathetic. She is tired of the whole thing and says it would be easier just to pay them the twenty three dollars a month till she passes. A say they are immoral crooks who turn a deaf ear.

SEARS CHARGING ENORMOUS LATE FEES ETC. TO CONSUMERS

KENT, WASHINGTON -- THIS IS FROM MY WIFE. I went to buy a SEARS lawnmower this May and they talked me into applying for a credit card. Month later I received their statement which I paid in full. Next month I got another statement showing late fee $35. According to them, they got my payment late which I disputed and they promised the late charges will be taken off. Well they lied. Now months later I received another statement with yet another round of late fee added.

I have talked to them 3 times since and now the manager says she can not take it off, "your account is too new". Either I pay it or it will keep piling up. Kudos to SEARS. I think SEARS got something going here. A REAL GOOD SCHEME TO FLEECE AMERICA!!! I will never shop there again. And folks avoid their credit cards.

Sears Credit Card is ripping off customers

ILLINOIS -- Sears Credit Cards is gouging the card holders. They more than doubled my interest rate and refuse to lower it, even though I have never been late with a payment. I never saw the notification they were going to raise rates, otherwise I would have opted out. To all that read this...... never ever shop at Sears again!!!!!!!!!! Sears lost me as a customer forever. You would think in tough times they would want to attract customers and keep the ones they have. Complete idiots!

Sears drops credit card for no reason

I have been a steady customer of Sears for over 15 yrs. I always paid my Sears credit card bill, and have a balance on it since I received it. Now they send me a letter in the mail and say that I am not credit worthy, and has cut my credit and wants me to continue to pay my credit card bill on time. I think some of these companies are just way too big for their breaches. I will never shop at Sears again!

Credit card hikes

After being a loyal Sears customer for 20 plus years they said they sent an credit card opt out form to me to close my MasterCard account. I never got it then my MasterCard rate jumped to 29.9%. I would have been better off shopping at a pawn shop. I think there rates are probably better and their parent company most likely didn't receive billions in ball out $. To hell with Sears. I will never shop there again. EVER!

They closed my account for no reason

I have had my card since 2003. I received a letter in May 2009 that they had closed my account. I have never been late on this account and did not owe anything on it. I checked my credit report and nothing everything paid on time. I cannot find out why. I think it is so SORRY of them to close my account without my knowledge and for no reason. It's stupid. I never was late and was paid off.
