Do Not Buy Fridgidaire Products

Fridge, Oven, Micro and Dishwasher

FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA -- We built our home in Dec 07 and all of our appliances have broke down (of course after 1 yr warranty). We just replaced our fridge and dishwasher (wk before Xmas) as the cost to fix them was not much less then replacing. I called FRIDGIDAIRE and asked if they would do anything to help and I got nothin. I would never buy another FRIDGIDAIRE product again. Even the repair guy said they do more repairs on FRIDGIDAIRE products then anything else (keeps them in business).

I can appreciate your frustration Doy. Hopefully you will accept a little different perspective on this.

To begin with the product Frigidaire sold to both you and your builder was a series of appliances with a guarantee they would work correctly for one year. If the product failed within that first year, because of a defective part, the manufacturer agreed to service the unit with no cost out of your pocket. Beyond that first year, the cost became yours. This isn't much different from one manufacturer to the next as most offer their merchandise with the same degree of warranty to be competitive with other manufacturers. When the type and length of warranty coverage is calculated, there are very specific statistical percentages used. The longer the warranty, the greater the cost to both the manufacturer and the consumer.

Now, to add to your frustration is something called 'Builders' Grade' appliances. When one typically has a home built, many don't consider things like the quality of the appliances in comparison to the overall cost of the home. Contractors understand this and typically only offer the cheapest in appliances along with a home. They are generally not the longest lasting or the better built of equipment, but they are priced more cheaply.

Frigidaire, as many other manufacturers, also offer upper quality products; many of which I can say I actually own. They're built reasonably well and will generally last longer. Can they break before one may plan? Sure. If it's important for any product to not break before one may expect, extended warranties should be considered along with the purchase. Some retailers offer very reasonably priced warranty coverage, along with fantastic administration which guarantees that you're not the one out of pocket when the unit fails.

I'd be interested in knowing what you exactly replaced the items with. Please drop us a note and let us know.

Thanks for posting.
