BestBuy.com Informative - BuyBuy.com does not honor their policy for theft or lost gift cards
I had ordered 3 Best Buy gift cards totaling $230 dollars. When I realized that these were shipped to the wrong address (an address I hadn't lived at in 3 years), I immediately called Best Buy Customer service. I explained that I saw the shipping address was wrong on the order. They explained that the cards were delivered to the old address that very day. I requested that they cancel those gift cards to keep someone else from using them, just in case the post office did not return them with 'addressee unknown'. They said they could do nothing and only escalate my complaint to the gift card department and I should expect to hear from them via email in 5-10 business days. I voiced my concern then, that someone untrustworthy at that address could use them before the 5-10 days, but to no avail.
So I waited and waited. 10 days later, I got an email explaining they could do nothing. Nicole from Customer Care stated "Unfortunately, there is nothing Best Buy can do at this point. Upon/or prior to the delivery of your package, you will have to retrieve it from the ship to address yourself."
I had made it prefectly clear in my complaint that I did not live there and have not in several years. Wouldn't it have been a federal offense for me to take something from a mailbox where I don't live? I'm surprised they told me I should have done that.
In summary, BestBuy.com does not stand behind their advertisement. They state on their web site that if a gift card is lost or stolen, they will credit the balance remaining on the gift card. However, I could not get them to take any action the day I called. Despite my concern of misuse, they only offered to escalate the complaint to the gift card department to be handled in 5-10 business days. So 15 calendar days later, they either have the cards back from USPS, someone has spent them, or they are lost in the mail and I'm out $230 dollars for something I did not receive.
If they acted on my call and cancelled the cards and credited the balance when I called, like they state they will, I'd been a much happier customer.
